yamaha dgx 620 lcd screen manufacturer
My respect! this is the truth, My repair lasted a few month and finally I changed the screen module to a new one, it"s cheap in aliexpress. I can see some improvement and so far so good, 3 years already.0
This Tuesday I opened the DGX620 and checked the display. I saw no way to open it easily but when lifting a side tape I came across two (only two) backlight leds. There it was easy!
I had some similar issues with my DGX-620 that showed to be due to pressure of the flat cables contacts. This was solved using a small piece of cellulose acetate cut from a 35mm negative and inserted in between the display flat cable end the connector.
Awesome instructions. After taking out all the screws and the board, I didn"t think it was going to work because the connections on the LCD board looked perfect. But I followed the instructions exactly anyway. I have zero experience with repairing electronics but the instructions were so good that I fixed it on the first try. I especially appreciated the detail of setting the screwdriver torque to 1 so as not to strip the casing when putting it all back together. Thanks!
Great advice. Thanks! Looking to buy one of these very cheap (because - you guessed it - screen problem!). Before I attempt to fix/replace... is it possible to play as regular piano WITHOUT screen function? My daughter needs a nice keyboard for piano practice... Hate to pass this one up!
Yes, you can catch the offer, the overall quality and durability are ok, as it made by YAMAHA, sound quality is decent if the internal speaker still original, or you can just connect to an externally powered speaker system. one thing I feel the keys are little noisy compared to a Casio, the strike sound, maybe the shock absorber is getting old.... Mine one is about 7 years stationary use. Hope this help.1
Thanks for the advice on the anisotropic conductive film cable. My DGX620 LCD was down to half screen and I wanted to avoid the cost of replacement, when it was clearly only a connection issue.
Hi there! glad my note helped in solving the issue, seems it"s a genetic bug of all DGX keyboards (i just can"t call it piano even it sounds good, but the keys stoke feels toy). I do recommend you have a hot gun to finish this kind of job, as the iron slide quickly on the contact ribbon, maybe may become open again in a few days. good luck!

Here"s a Yamaha DGX-620 keyboard with a broken LCD. Judging from the fact that there are quite a few videos and tutorials on how to exchange a broken LCD with the proper spare part, I"d reckon these LCDs break quite easily and often.
I was a little surprised to get a quote of 130€ ($150) for the replacement (Yamaha Part # WG299100), and I was looking for a replacement that"s cheaper. As this is a fill-in instrument, and long out of warranty, I wouldn"t mind not getting the original part. Also I don"t mind the tinkering.
Enter Pollin, a company selling electronic remnants, such as bags with 1kg of capacitors, sold as “perfect for tinkering”. By chance, they sell a “LCD-Modul NAN YA LTC79H202T50K, 240x320” (order #121307, €4/$5) which, on closer examination, is electrically 100% compatible to the Yamaha display. Only with a slightly different, smaller shape, and with a different pinout. Also, they sell the exact same flex-cable that Yamaha uses to connect the LCD to the CPU board: Flexprint-Kabel AXON FFC1.00A14/0200L5-5-10-10 (#562251) (€1).
Looking into the datasheet of the LCD provided by Pollin and the Yamaha DGX-620 service manual easily found online, it"s clear that electrically the display is compatible.
FR (first row) is FLM (first line marker), LP (line pulse?) is CL1 (data latch), XCK (x? clock) is CL2 (shift clock). Everything else has identical designators. Sanding off the back of the replacement LCDs PCB a little to have good bonding to epoxy glue...
Ugly patching of wires from the 14-in cable to the pads on the LCD according to pinouts shown above. After soldering the wires (which is hard on the flexfoil, as the plastic melts and the copper traces of the flexfoil will move around, creating shorts) and emitting a few prayers to the deity of choice, a picture appears! :-)
Then I added the display to the original plastic part from which I removed both the LCD logic and all the light spreading works. The complete LCD module almost fits in the cutout for the old glass, only a small plastic ridge had to be removed with a xacto-knive. I had to add a small slot for the flexcable, to feed through and added a hole for the big blob of goo by which I glued down the cables so that they don"t become loose.
Update: As Ulrich pointed out, one can directly solder the cables for the LCD backlight to the cables going to the two-bin connector on the power supply on more recent models of the keyboard. Some onlder ones have high-voltage for an electroluminiscent foil, though, so beware.
The Yamaha DGX-620 is the name of a digital piano (also known as the YPG-625). The lettering DGX encompasses the word Digital Grand whereas YPG stands for Yamaha Portable Grand, and the only difference between the names are the markets they are sold in.Yamaha Corporation in late 2006, the first model of the DGX/YPG series with weighted keys.
The DGX-620 is an improved version of the earlier Yamaha DGX-520 keyboard. In June 2008 the Yamaha DGX-630 (aka YPG-635) replaced the DGX-620. The next successor, the Yamaha DGX-640, was released in 2010. In 2013, the DGX-650 Digital Piano was released. This was later replaced by the Yamaha DGX-660 (available in the same colors as the 650). The DGX-660 was replaced in 2021 by the DGX-670, which adds a color display, as well as features similar to the PSR-S and -SX series keyboards such as Super Articulation voices and an improved style section.
Please keep the item in its original condition, with brand outer box, MRP tags attached, user manual, warranty cards, CDs and original accessories in manufacturer packaging for a successful return pick-up. Before returning a Tablet, the device should be formatted and screen lock should be disabled.
I also have a Yamaha DGX 520 keyboard with a faulty screen. The same faults described by others (half screen). I would have expected that all those on this site should have been contacted by Yamaha with an offer from themselves to replace the screen.
I write to the factory, they sent my letter to the South African agent who said such a free repair offer has expired. This is nonsense, and not good for Yamaha’s good reputation.
I have a Yamaha portable Grand DGX with half the screen blank or faint I just wiggled the power button and it came back on with the full screen problem with these screens might be a power button issue hope this helps. If mine keeps doing going out I will have it serviced
I have a Yamaha DGX 520. When I plug it in and I start to play, I can"t seem to get any sound. I"ve already pushed enough buttons to confuse it. What to do HELP
I have the same problem with my dgx 520. Screen disappeared then no power. I wish there was a solution from Yamaha posted here. I"m about to throw it away as I don"t see any help Yamaha posted. I will still buy another Yamaha as I love their products but this time I"m buying a mediocre one. Not spending a lot
I got my DGX520 around 2008 or later and learned recently that model was a phased out model when I got it from Best Buy. I have the same issues with the LCD screen. The problem was intermittent so I didn"t think much of it. It"s gotten worst recently and turned unreadable when the weather gets very humid. I"m very disappointed that Yamaha only offered 50% off for a technical defect due to cheap materials they"ve used. Another guy in this thread got the screen for free, what"s with the discrimination?
I have a Yamaha DGX 520 keyboard half the screen is blank can I still get a free replacement screen I can do all the work myself it"s very easy if you know what you"re doing... Please answer me if possible
Even though the keyboard was purchased in 2008 and well past the warranty, they are providing a new screen at no charge. They provided also, several local repair shops that I could not find on line.
Have a problem with my 2-years old dgx-520, Its display (monochrome-blue)becomes half-readable. I"ve tried adjusting the contrast, but this does not make any difference. Right half just turned blue.. (
I have a yamaha dgx 520 piano, the display is ok but does not light up and becomes a problem to read when performing, anybody with a solution to light it up the display again will be highly appreciated.
I"m getting vertical lines on the right half of the lcd screen. All functions seem to work normally otherwise. Sometimes the right half of the screen goes completely blank. Is this something I can fix myself, if so, how?
Unless Yamaha is shipping the LCD display "with" the interface board, this is not a plug-and-play installation. I have a reasonably broad background in component level electronics repair. I opened up my recently acquired DGX-520 to investigate the problem. The ribbon cable from the LCD display to the interface board is soldered. Since I no longer own my repair business, I didn"t have the best solder pencil on my bench, but decided to resolder it anyway. Bad idea. I"m pretty sure there are surface mount diodes on each solder run and I may have cooked them with the heat.
If in fact they are shipping the two parts, (the LCD and the interface or driver board) then it is pretty simple to install. Just pay careful attention to the bends in the old ribbon cables so you make sure you get pin 1 in the right space. Also make sure those cables are seated squarely before applying power.
Lines in the LCD ilke these are caused by individual digital inputs not getting properly applied to the screen. Each segment is driven by a set of inputs. Whoever wrote that it was because the liquid in the crystal was perhaps the problem was, I am afraid, in error in their understanding of how LCD"s work.
I"m going to try to rework mine this weekend, but I suspect the real issue is either the brown, (more brittle) data cable to the actual LCD or where it is actually connecting within the LCD panel.
After reading the above comments, it appears as if the fix is a replacement part. Mine is a DGX 520 and after dealing with turning it off and on finally is totally unreadable with the lines. Should anyone find an easy fix for it please post it. It is a very nice piano otherwise....

Having plenty of experience selling Yamaha digital pianos and keyboards, I can tell you this an obvious fault of theirs with this particular model! I"ve never had any problems from thousands of customers who"ve purchased their other models! Yamaha instruments are usually very reliable.
I inherited my DGX-520 from my mother who rarely used it. It was working fine then the LCD went out. I was getting vertical lines on the left side and nothing. I am a guitarist so I don"t use it much but it is the only KB in my studio.
I tried cycling power over and over ( as read in another post) and occasionally get the left side of the screen appearing on the right. I have some electronics background and know that this KB was never dropped or mishandled. Any one have luck re-seating the LCD cables? How hard is it to disassemble this unit? What a pain...
Had the same problem for a while and just decided to write about it. It was intermittent at first and could go away after keyboard stayed on for a while, but getting sick of it as I wanted to "jam" today and the screen is blank. You"d think with all these occurrences Yamaha would do something for us. Very disappointed.
I have the same problem with my DGX-520, but I noticed something. During the winter, when there is low humidity, the screen was perfectly fine. TRy finding a low humidity area in your home and letting it rest there for a day then turn it on in that location. Since it is an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) the liquid inside the screen may have been exposed to humidity, causing the distortion or the lines on the screen.
Sure wish there were a fix for this from Yamaha. I agree - seems a shame to waste a food keyboard on such a little problem that ruins the whole keyboard .
I just got off the phone with a rep. from Yamaha24X7.com. I ordered the new LCD Display for 169 bucks. It is plug and play, everyone. I didn"t order the associated power ribbon (similar to one in a computer) until I install the new one.
I bought a DGX 640 this month, I have this problem since yesterday. This morning, when I have turn on the keyboard, the problem has been disapeared. Did you find a solution for that please?

I have the same problem. I"m confident that Yamaha used a defective part and they must know about this problem. I think it"s only right that they should offer a solution. Normally Yamaha makes very good and reliable products. I am frustrated by this problem because it makes an otherwise wonderful instrument unusable.
At first the vertical lines ere on the left side of the screen...then it was normal for about a week. Now the same vertical lines have come back again, but they are on the RIGHT side now.
I just opened my keyboard for just this problem, thought it might just be a loose connection, reseated everything, same fault. I suspect the LCD (could get some display by wiggling the ribbon cables). I"m going to replace it if I can fine one AND it not to many $$$. I"ll let you know.............
I got a quote to fix this problem from Yamaha in Mississauga (Toronto) Canada. Two hour of labour at $70 per hour plus $92 for the parts. Has anyone tried opening up the unit and replacing the display on their own?
Total screen is now blank plus the lines. Do you know why it happened (any incidentthat may have caused it... One tech told me board may be going). Has anyone gotten a quote on repair or advice not to? Wonder how common this problem is? Anyone know how to contact Yamaha?
Our DGX 200 has the same screen problem as described in the previous posts (vertical lines, blank screen, etc)... It is too bad because it is a nice instrument...
Ultimately the symptom has become fatal changing at first to become a blank screen on one half or the other until last night when the LCD backlighting is the only thing I have. Now the LCD display has quit all together.
Hi, I have had a Yamaha DGX-520 keyboard for a while (Past thw arranty). One morning, I got up, turned it on, and the screen was wacked, and it has been that way for three months.
It has graphical errors, sometimes the screen shows up in some lines on the screen, usually is random white lines on a blue background, and sometimes is just blue. I can switch tones and stuff still, just the display has gone mad.
same issues as everyone else. yamaha needs to fix this issue free of charge! ,this has to be a failt of theirs if everyone is experiencing the same issue with the LCD lighting. ,Im furious! ,My keyboard works amazing other then the LCD monitor. l
I have used Yamaha DGX 520 around 1 year. recently i notice that G pitch sound loud like off touch sentitive when C# is holding even touch sentitive set hards. Please advise. thanks
Yeah this same thing happened to me... Frustration eventually overcame me and I decided to take the thing apart to figure out what was wrong with it. At first I couldn"t find anything that was making this happen, until i wiggled the two ribbon connectors that run out of the lcd screen. I noticed that the picture would come in and out, I got it to work for a little while, however when I put the whole thing back together, my fix soon became usless. So you might get lucky by just wiggling those two ribbons if you dare, but I wouldnt recommend it, waste of time, and not even worth it. Yamaha should be ashamed of themselves.
As looking around all of cases, Ican"t help laughing for I used to think it is only thing of mine. Throughout all the voices of complaining on the part of Yamaha, I bring a conclusion. Yamaha needs to answer for the problem.
I am trying to access the gorgeous sounds of my DGX-520 from Logic Studio 9, but all it seems to be able to access are the GM (General MIDI) sounds which are not nearly as good as, say, the default piano sound.
Is there a way to have Logic control the main sounds of the DGX-520? I am fearing that Logic 9 will only access GM on external gear but I hope I"m wrong.
I had the same issue using my dgx620 with Sonar (Cakewalk). After a bit of Googling, i learned, that the programm needs to have a INSTRUMENT DEFINITION FILE installed. In this file (usualy a kind of textbased file) the programm is "told" how and where to access the special Yamaha voices and in wich banks they are to be found.
I just bought a Yamaha DGX 520 a couple of months ago - on ebay - worked great , until last week, the LCD started going in and out- the left half at first and now whole things =
Issue with half display seemed to have fixed itself on my dgx-620 - its was not used for a while and I did notice that the screen looked a bit faded - then randomly the half broken screen issue appeared. I turned it on and off and then just let it run for an hour and it came back working!
sALUDOS NECESITO ASESORIA TENGO UN TECLADO DGX 520 Y EL PROBLEMA ES QUE SE DIVIDE LA PANTALLA DE LADO IZQUIERDO SE VE BIEN PERO LA MITAD DEL LADO DERECHO NO SE VE O SE VEN RAYAS NADAMAS YA INTENTE CON LA PERILLA POSTERIOR DE BRILLO Y NADA QUEDA IGUAL ALGUN COMENTARIO O SUGERENCIA O DONDE ME PODRIAN CHECAR ESTA FALLA GRACIAS
Neither Canadian and USA Yamaha representative accepted to help me in any ways. So finally i must agree that it"s the last time i buy Yamaha"s products. It"s a shame that they dont support their products more than that. Too bad my next synth will be Roland, Moog, Casio etc. If i want to repair i"ll have to pay more than $200 plus custom fee $100 plus shipping and taxes $100...Forget it!!!
Same symptoms with half the screen (right side) flickering in and out, dim display, grainy looking, etc. Just turning the knob fixed it all -- amazing!
I just picked up a used DGX-530 for $200 because the owner (and I as well) thought the LCD was shot. Thanks so much for this information about the knob on the back - all I had to do was adjust the contrast and its working! Awesome!
I bought mine two years ago and the display went a year later. Now it"s just the solid blue and white split screen. I like wild bill"s info, thanks so much, I"ll call those #s and see if I can fix it myself.
I have a Yamaha QS 300 workstation. Bought it years ago and the lcd light wouldn"t work anymore after a couple of years. Had some modifications done such as installing led"s around the perimeter of the display to give some lighting but this only made it hot. Was done by an electronic enthusiast in Bali. I do remember once when the light went out for some time then later it came back on for a moment which suggested maybe a loose connection. Since then it doesn"t work anymore. Always had to use a torch to see the display. Now the lcd itself is going funny with lines across the display. Had a technician service it and it was ok for a couple of months. Started playing up again. The keyboard has brilliant sounds and features and a shame if couldn"t get the display working again. I can probably fix the problem with the broken lines but the problem is with the backlight. Is there some sort of replacement backlight strip that I can buy to install behind the existing display? I saw something on YOutube.
call this number for parts 1-888-892-6242 . give them your keyboard number as dgx620. order the part-the lcd-send to you. take all the screws out of the back, and lift the back of the keyboard up, the is one cable you have to disconect to the speakers. lay the bottom aside. next pull the flat cables away from the mother board, make note where they plug in. take 4 screws out of the mother board and set it aside.take 4 screws out of the lcd and unplug all the cables attached to it and lift it out. reverse the process with the new lcd, being careful not to tighten the screws too tight as the threads are plastic. your done .good luck. for tech support call 714-522-9000- each key board may have a different number but just tell them what it is and they will get it for you.
i have the same problem especially after long time not using it. in my case i leave the dgx switched on for a few hours and the display is getting better
The above, as mentioned, applies to PSR series units, but try it anyway as no harm will be done to yours. If the suggestions work, enjoy playing your keyboard. If the actions do not work, hopefully some other kind owner of a DGX 520 will help. Could you please post a message in this Forum, so other members can benefit from your experience. Keep well and good luck”.
Hi i just recently transported my portable grand DGX 520 by car home and the speaker had already been dented but when i plug the adapter in the program on the screen is blurry and has black lines but yet i can still play. Do you have an idea what is wrong with it?
Dear Chantell: 1) The dent in the speaker may not have anything to do with the problem. 2) One POSSIBLE contributor is the Adaptor, or the Socket in the Unit where you plug in the Adaptor. The PLUG of the Adaptor may be dirty. Clean it with Electronic Contact Cleaner (Squirt Can). While you are about this, also squirt a SHORT BURST into tyhe Socket and insert/withdraw the Adaptor Plug several times to ensure good contact is made. 3) The Adaptor itself may have degraded, try a new one. If these suggestions do not work, here"s a Yamaha site for a local service which may help....
I"ve loaded the Yamaha CD into my computer. However, whenever I try to load those songs into the flash drive in the keyboard, it always reads, File not found.
It is now 2015 and I have only just discovered this site. The little Knob on the back restored my display I didn"t even know it was there! I have had the DGX 520 since new in 2007. Great machine. I read through all of the comments including all of the expensive and technical fixes including changing the card. Thank you Yamaha You have restored an old guy"s confidence in both me and you. John
