No matter how careful you are, accidents can happen. This is why Dell offers Accidental Damage (Complete Care) at the time of purchase for Dell laptops, Venue phones or tablets.
If you happen to crack or break the LCD screen of your Dell laptop, Venue phone or tablet without having Accidental Damage coverage, you will have to cover the cost of repair yourself. For help with getting your device repaired, Contact Dell Technical Support.
Accidental Damage is any damage due to an unintentional act that is not the direct result of a manufacturing defect or failure. Accidental damage is not covered under the standard warranty of the product. Such damage is often the result of a drop or an impact on the LCD screen or any other part of the product which may render the device non-functional. Such types of damage are only covered under an Accidental Damage service offering which is an optional add-on to the basic warranty of the product. Accidental Damage must not be confused with an occasional dead or stuck pixel on the LCD panel. For more information about dead or stuck pixels, see the Dell Display Pixel Guidelines.
The LCD glass on the display is manufactured to rigorous specifications and standards and will not typically crack or break on its own under normal use. In general, cracked, or broken glass is considered accidental damage and is not covered under the standard warranty.
Internal cracks typically occur due to excessive force on the screen. This can be the result of some object hitting the screen, a drop, attempting to close the lid while an object is on the keypad area, or even holding the laptop by its screen.
Spots typically occur due to an external force hitting the screen causing damage to the LCD panel"s backlight assembly. While the top layer did not crack or break, the underlying area was compressed and damaged causing this effect.
If your Dell laptop LCD panel has any accidental damage but the laptop is not covered by the Accidental Damage service offering, contact Dell Technical Support for repair options.

I had a dead laptop that I took apart a year ago, saved the screen in hopes of doing this project. Finally had time and a good design in my head, so here is a skeleton frame to Frankenstein yourself some kind of display rig.
The idea is to use off the shelf 1/4 inch nuts, bolts, rods and couplers along with special clamp pieces I made to fit perfectly on the specific panel I had. Once all tighten up, the frame feels great to hold in my hand.
The next step was to create panels that I can attach to the frame to hold all the circuit boards I need to make this panel come to life. So using the clamp parts I already designed, I make little panels that can be put on any side of the frame and also attach itself to the panel to keep it from moving around. I didn"t bother to put holes in the models, i opted for the cheap quick way of just making the right shape then using a drill to put the holes where I need them to mount the boards to it.
Whatever panel you have, just search around ebay for lcd panel controller boards and content any of the top sellers with info about your panel and they"ll tell you if they have something that will work. Worked for me !
After I had it all setup, I had a working LCD panel that I can connect to HDMI. Since I have a spare Chromecast I decided to make this panel at least into a streaming screen I can control from my phone. So I found on amazon a 12v to 5v converter to power the device, plus I got a new 12v power supply that came with a splitter so I can route power to the controller board and the converter board. Don"t worry, the whole rig does not consume more then 2 amps the the supply I have is for 5amps :)
Since the controller board had support for two 1watt sound speakers, i got some off amazon to add sound to the lcd rig which gets its sound through the HDMI port from the chromecast.
I posted the stl and the freecad files if you need to adjust the sizes of things in the event you want to create a simpler rig from a spare LCD panel you may laying around... Unless I"m the only weirdo who had such a thing just laying around, which makes this pointless :)
Side note, with the 5v power supply you can do more then just power chromecast, you can run raspberry pi or any other device that can spit out video to the panel. Sky"s the limit, hence why I make a skeleton, gives people the freedom to change things over time.
If you travel with a laptop and iPad, you need this app. I needed a second screen, but Duet gives me even more. Full gesture support, customizable shortcuts, Touch Bar, tons of resolution options, and very little battery power. How is this all in one app?
With the new Air feature that allows remote access to a laptop or desktop computer from anywhere in the world (with internet access), this app has become even more essential.
I just love this app. Especially when I am travelling for work an working from the company branches. Then I use my iPad as second monitor for Outlook, Lync and other chat while I use the laptop big screen for remote desktop to my workstation at the main office. :)
LCD display doesn’t operate the same way as CRT displays , which fires electrons at a glass screen, a LCD display has individual pixels arranged in a rectangular grid. Each pixel has RGB(Red, Green, Blue) sub-pixel that can be turned on or off. When all of a pixel’s sub-pixels are turned off, it appears black. When all the sub-pixels are turned on 100%, it appears white. By adjusting the individual levels of red, green, and blue light, millions of color combinations are possible
The pixels of the LCD screen were made by circuitry and electrodes of the backplane. Each sub-pixel contains a TFT (Thin Film Transistor) element. These structures are formed by depositing various materials (metals and silicon) on to the glass substrate that will become one part of the complete display “stack,” and then making them through photolithography. For more information about TFT LCDs, please refer to “
The etched pixels by photolith process are the Native Resolution. Actually, all the flat panel displays, LCD, OLED, Plasma etc.) have native resolution which are different from CRT monitors
Although we can define a LCD display with resolution, a Full HD resolution on screen size of a 15” monitor or a 27” monitor will show different. The screen “fineness” is very important for some application, like medical, or even our cell phone. If the display “fineness” is not enough, the display will look “pixelized” which is unable to show details.
But you see other lower resolution available, that is because video cards are doing the trick. A video card can display a lower LCD screen resolution than the LCD’s built-in native resolution. The video cards can combine the pixels and turn a higher resolution into lower resolution, or just use part of the full screen. But video cards can’t do the magic to exceed the native resolution.
