The 64128N uses our 64128K LCD module which has a viewing area of 50 x 25 mm and the ST7565R COG IC. The backlight uses a single LED for low power consumption.The PCB allows for easy mounting and assembly.

The ST7565R is a single-chip dot matrix LCD driver that can be connected directly to a microprocessor bus. 8-bit parallel or 4-line SPI display data sent from the microprocessor is stored in the internal display data RAM and the chip generates a LCD drive signal independent of the microprocessor. Because the chips in the ST7565R contain 65x132 bits of display data RAM and there is a 1-to-1 correspondence between the LCD panel pixels and the internal RAM bits, these chips enable displays with a high degree of freedom. The ST7565R chips contain 65 common output circuits and 132 segment output circuits, so that a single chip can drive a 65x132 dot display (capable of displaying 8 columns x4 rows of a 16x16 dot kanji font).

Integrated hardware included a single board computer, industrial level chassis, and industrial capacity power supply. The fabricated display was touch operated, measuring 8.4” and featured an anti-reflective film and backlighting capabilities. We also provided the necessary cabling and software, for the effective operation of the unit and accurate processing of large amounts of raw data, which is critical to the productivity levels of most industrial systems.

For our first project, we’re using both the inbuilt LCD screen and WiFi module to get text data of famous quotes. Since we’re all nerds at DIYODE, we’ve of course chosen to choose famous programming quotes. The center button of the Wio Terminal will be used to load a new quote and display it on the screen.

Text wrapping is the process of bringing text fields down to the next line on the screen if it’s too long – which is often the case with quotes. The LCD library does have this function built-in, but it wasn’t cooperating for us, so we wrote it ourselves!

Essentially, we’re taking ‘chunks’ out of the text with the substring function and writing each to one line of the Wio Terminal’s LCD screen. The ‘len’ variable describes the number of characters on each line. If the function is confusing, just change some values and observe the effects!
