Want to bling out your Silhouette CAMEO 3? It"s your lucky day. Today I"m sharing a free Silhouette Studio cut file for a CAMEO 3 touch screen skin...and again I"m spreading my love for removable sticker paper which is my top choice of materials for cutting this shape.

The Silhouette CAMEO 1 included a free cut file when you downloaded the 50 free designs and I created a CAMEO 2 control panel shape, but the CAMEO 3"s been patiently waiting for some TLC.

The control panel shape is perfectly sized so all you have to do is download it below and open in Silhouette Studio. Do not resize it at all or it won"t fit around your Silhouette Cameo 3 touchscreen.

With registration marks on, two Silhouette CAMEO 3 control panel shapes fit on a sheet. I filled each with a different custom pattern that I had previously imported into the My Patterns folder.

Online Labels has recommended Silhouette cut settings for all of their products so I always refer to their list. For this removable printable sticker paper a blade depth of 3 with a thickness of 10 and a speed of 4 work perfectly to give you a kiss cut.

The great thing about this Online Labels sticker paper is the quality - it can stand up to transfer tape - which is necessary to use when moving the sticker to the CAMEO. There"s no way you"d be able to do this without transfer tape due to those thin areas on either side of the touch screen panel.

Use the sticker paper backing to cover the back of the sticker again with the exception of the top half inch or so. This will prevent the entire sticker skin from touching the cutting machine before you"re ready to fully commit.

Once the sticker is in place around the touch screen, burnish it with your finger or the Silhouette scraper and then peel away the transfer tape. I had one bubble on the bottom section, but was able to easily peel up the bottom part of the sticker and then re-stick it! That"s the beauty of the repositionable sticker paper.

The other great thing about Online Label"s removable sticker sheets are you can easily remove them...hence the name. This makes it super easy to swap out your Silhouette CAMEO 3 skin whenever you want. Just peel off the sticker and replace it with a new one....which is why you print and cut two on the sheet!

The Silhouette CAMEO® is the ultimate DIY machine. It uses a small blade to cut over 100 materials, including paper, cardstock, vinyl, and fabric up to 12 inches wide. The Cameo has the ability to register and cut printed materials and is PixScan™ compatible. What does this mean for you? It is our machine that has the largest cutting space and is most versatile in the materials it can cut.

The Silhouette CAMEO® 3 was released in August 2016. It has all of the same capabilities as the previous versions along with some added features. This Cameo features a dual carriage so you can use two tools at once, and it features Bluetooth® technology. To top it all off, the Cameo 3 is the only machine compatible with Silhouette’s AutoBlade, a self-adjusting blade.

The Silhouette CAMEO® is your standard in electronic cutting. Like a home printer, it plugs into your PC or Mac® and a power outlet. Use Silhouette Studio® software on your computer to design and create projects to send to your Cameo. And now that the Cameo has a dual carriage, you can do more than ever.

With the touch screen, you can load your media and access your machine settings. The Cameo 3 is our first machine to feature sounds to help you navigate through the screens. It also provides mini tutorials to help you if you get stuck or have questions about using your machine. Just click the settings icon in the corner of the screen and choose “Tutorial.”

The Cameo 3 has multiple storage compartments. With your lid open, there are places to keep extra blades on the left. On the top rack, you can keep blades, tools, or pens, and the pull-out drawer at the bottom opens for more storage.

By adjusting the white rollers on the main roller shaft, the Silhouette CAMEO® can cut the following media sizes: A4, letter, 12”, 13” (12 in. material on the cutting mat). The spring rollers have been designed for a strong yet gentle way to hold project materials in place.

If you are using a long piece of media, the crosscutter can be very helpful. It is basically a paper-cutter on the back of your machine. The crosscutter lets you separate your finished cut job from the remaining media in one quick stroke. With the crosscutter track attached directly to the back, you will get a perfectly straight edge every time. Then, when you use the remaining media for a different project, your Cameo will load the nice, even edge very easily. If you use rolls of vinyl, the crosscutter will be very helpful.

Cameo 3 features a dual carriage. Are you like us and are a little bit EXCITED about the project possibilities? The tools are marked with little red circle on the left and a blue circle on the right. Insert your tools (such as an AutoBlade and a sketch pen) into the corresponding tool holders assigned in your Send panel. Watch two different tools work in one cut job!

Cameo 3 is Bluetooth® compatible and allows wireless communication. The Silhouette CAMEO® “Bluetooth® Edition” includes a pre-installed adapter. For all other Cameo editions, Bluetooth® is enabled, but you will need to install a Bluetooth® adapter. The Bluetooth® adapter resides in the bottom of the machine in a compartment accessible with a basic screwdriver. Using Bluetooth® technology, your Cameo can receive cut jobs by devices other than your computer. This also means your Cameo will be able to receive cut jobs without being attached to your computer. Use Bluetooth® to get some of those pesky cords out of the way!

The Cameo 3 can stipple using a marker or felt-tip pen. Stippling is the process of making a design using a series of dots. You can turn any design from the Silhouette Design Store or any photo into a stipple design.

The Cameo 3 is able to read barcodes produced in the Registration Marks panel of the Silhouette Studio® software. Accessed through Business Edition, you can use the barcode scanning feature to print a barcode and registration marks onto Print & Cut pages. Then, load your printed page into your Cameo 3 and the optic scanner will read the barcode and access the file, cutting your design without needing the file open on your screen.

For those of you who are new to using Heat Transfer Vinyl, we understand the overwhelming struggles of getting your first vinyl cutting machine! In fact, getting started with the Silhouette Cameo 3 can appear to be quite intimidating, and even stressful. In this blog, we are going to walk you through how to set up your Silhouette Cameo 3 and show you how to begin your first cut!

4) On the right side of your Cameo, you will find the power button along with the ports for USB Drive, USB 2.0 cord and the Power cord. It is also Bluetooth compatible (setup directions are provided in the setup link provided above)!

7) Now, let’s take a look at the Blade and Pen Holders. The Cameo 3 Auto Blade must be placed in the red carriage, which in this case is on the left. Place it in the opening and ensure that the grooves on the back align with the grooves in the Blade Holder. Also, make sure that it’s pressed down completely. Then, push the locking piece forward all the way until it clicks into place.

11) Your Cameo 3 will always include a cutting mat. The purpose of the cutting mat is to hold your vinyl in place while cutting (we will show you how to use this below).

1) After having your design created in Silhouette Studio, you are going to want to turn on your Cameo and get your cutting mat out. As mentioned above, you can use the fold-out mat supports if you wish. With the cutting mat, you will see a teal colored protective covering. Peel this cover off to expose the sticky side of the mat. Then, with the arrow on the mat facing upwards, place your HTV on the mat with the shiny side down. You will see that our sheet of HTV is smaller than the cutting mat. We aligned our sheet on the right side of the mat (we will explain later why we did this). There is a blue line on the left-side of Cameo to help you align this cutting mat. Place the mat so that the left edge is lined up with the blue line and the top edge just slightly touching the silver roller bar.

3) Once you have locked the cutting mat into place (with your HTV on it of course), you will see that on the touchscreen you will be given the option to either load or unload. If you feel as if your mat has been aligned straight, proceed to load. You will then see the Roller Bars grab the edge of the cutting mat to bring your vinyl under the Blade Holders.

5) In Silhouette Studio, click on “SEND” in the upper right hand-corner. You will see that there is a drop-down menu under the Red Carriage, labeled “Tool 1” and a drop-down menu under the Blue Carriage, labeled “Tool 2”. We personally recommend using the Auto Blade, which only fits in the Red Carriage “Tool 1”.

6) Under the “Application Instructions” tab within most product pages on our website, you will find the cutting instructions for the Cameo. For this cutting demo, we used Siser EasyWeed. In this case, you will want to use the Smooth Heat Transfer Material setting, your blade at 3, a speed of 8 and a force of 6. You will also want to click on “cut” as outlined in red.

8) Adjust your cut settings as necessary until the test cut enables your vinyl to weed as it should. Then, reload your vinyl and press send. When you press “SEND” it will ask you if you want to mirror your image. When cutting HTV, you will always want to cut your image mirrored. However, if you allow Silhouette Studio to mirror your image, it will align your design starting the upper left-hand corner (assuming your design is aligned in the upper right-hand corner as shown in Silhouette Studio). This is why we aligned our HTV on the left-hand side of the cutting mat. If your HTV is as big as your cutting mat, this shouldn’t matter. But, to avoid this from occurring, you can manually mirror your image by right clicking on your design and choosing “Flip Horizontally”. By doing this, you will have control as to where your cutting alignment begins on your vinyl.

9) When the machine has completed cutting your HTV, you will need to click on “UNLOAD” on the touchscreen and release the Roller Lever to take your vinyl and cutting mat out from under the Roller Bar.

The Silhouette Cameo 3 is similar to the Silhouette Cameo 2, but has some key upgrades and new features. In this review, we will be going over everything you need to know about this electronic cutter – the pros, cons, and things you should know before you buy the Silhouette Cameo 3.

Some of the new features of the Cameo 3 include dual carriages, Bluetooth, and some upgrades to Silhouette Studio, which is powerful design software allowing users to create their own custom designs from scratch. The Cameo 3 isn’t as powerful as other machines like the Cricut Explore but can cut most paper and vinyl materials just fine. Let’s get started with the Silhouette Cameo 3 Review.

The Silhouette Cameo has everything you would expect from a digital die cut machine. It has dual carriages, Bluetooth technology, a touchscreen, and the all-new Autoblade, which is exclusive to Silhouette.

Full-color LCD touch screen for navigation and use. This touch screen allows you to choose between languages, set the sleep time, change the color scheme, display help icons, and even view a tutorial.

One of the biggest upgrades to the Cameo is the dual carriages. Previously, if you wanted to draw and cut a single project, you had to stop the machine, swap out the blade or pen, then start the job again. With dual carriages, there is no stopping, making things a lot easier. You can either draw with two different colored pens at the same time.

The Print and Cut feature comes standard with all the Silhouette machines. This feature allows the Cameo to cut out printed images. This is ideal if you are cutting things like stickers, labels, tags, gift cards, or invitations so you don’t have to cut them out by hand. Keep in mind you will need a printer to initially print the designs.

What makes it so simple is, when you go to print your image from the Studio software, it will be printed with registration marks. When the printed material is loaded into the machine, the Cameo will use a sensor to detect these marks and know exactly where to cut around the image.

Similar to the Print and Cut feature, the Cameo 3 comes with PixScan technology. However, instead of printing the design from a printer, the image is placed on the PixScan cutting mat, where the mat itself contains the registration marks. Once the material is placed on the mat, a picture can be taken with your camera or smartphone and uploaded to the Design Studio software, where the trace lines can be created and then cut.

The AutoBlade is a new blade that comes with the Cameo 3. It automatically adjusts its depth based on the material being cut. This means it saves you time from having to take the blade out and adjust its depth each time you want to cut different material. The way the AutoBlade adjusts itself is by tapping itself in the corner of the machine to adjust the blade before the cutting begins.

The touch screen replaces all the buttons on the Cameo 3. It’s here where you can load/unload your mat and even get mini tutorials. If you get stuck, the touch screen helps guide you through the machine. A neat addition is that the Cameo 3 provides audio feedback to help you navigate.

The Cameo 3 also comes with multiple storage compartments to make sure your tools have a nice home. When you open the lid, the left-hand side has 2 slots for your blades. There is also a groove that runs near the back of the machine large enough to hold 10 sketch pens horizontally. And lastly, there is a pullout from under the machine that is separated into two compartments. The left compartment hold tools such as picks and spatulas, while the right compartment is perfect for your cross cutter.

One feature that sets the Cameo 3 apart from the rest is the ability to cut up to 10 feet long. If you are making a long banner or large vinyl decal, the Cameo 3 is perfect. What makes this super easy is the Roll Feeder attachment.

The Roll Feeder attachment holds the roll for the material and helps feed it into the Cameo. Not only does this make it easier to feed, but keeps the material straight and prevents it from being crooked.

The Cameo has a cutting force of 210 grams. This lags behind in comparison to other digital die cutting machines such as the Cricut Explorer Air. The Cameo won’t be able to cut balsa wood or thin sheet metal, but it’s perfect for scrapbooking, card making, and vinyl projects.

When buying a die cut machine, a lot of people are wondering what the differences are between the Silhouette Cameo 3 and the Cricut Explore Air. They are the two most popular machines on the market, and for good reason.

While they both have similar capabilities such as dual carriages and print and cut, the Cricut Explore is almost twice as strong and more precise than the Silhouette Cameo. One big difference is the software. If you are an advanced user who wishes to create designs from scratch using the native software, the Silhouette Studio software is more powerful. You do need to pay to upgrade to import .SVG files, however, while it’s free with Cricut Design Space.

The Silhouette Studio software is free and allows you to either buy, import, or create your own designs from scratch. The software is compatible with Windows Vista and higher, and Mac OSX 10.6.8 & higher. If you are a graphic designer or have previous experience using graphics software, you’ll feel more comfortable getting started with Silhouette Studio. If you aren’t familiar with creating your own designs, there are lots of tutorials and communities that would love to help you.

Another way you can use images is by buying them from the Silhouette Design Store, where most designs are 99 cents. Along with the 100 free designs that come with the software, every week the Design Store releases a free design as well. Designs that you purchase are stored in your online account, so if your computer crashes, you can go back to your online account and download the designs you previously bought at no additional charge.

You also receive 1 month Basic Subscription to the Silhouette Design Store with the purchase of your machine. That’s $25.00 monthly credits to download any designs you want. The subscription plans allow users to pay a monthly price for credits to use at the Design Store. There are many subscription plans, for 3, 6 and 12 months, ranging from $5 a month to $100 dollars a month, so you can pick the subscription you want. This is a good option to save money if you plan on buying a lot of designs.

There is another Silhouette program called Silhouette Connect. Silhouette Connect gives you the ability to send projects you’ve designed in Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW straight to the machine without the need to convert them first to a Silhouette Studio compatible format. The license key to use Connect cost $39.99.

Silhouette support has been mixed from both extremes. Some users have had quick and painless customer support, while others haven’t had good experiences.

There are though lots and lots of community resources online to help you out, ranging from forums to yahoo and Facebook groups. There are thousands of enthusiastic and helpful users who are ready to help answer your questions. There are also video tutorials on youtube to teach you hot to get started and how to create fun projects using your Cameo.

Overall, the Silhouette Cameo 3 isn’t the most versatile craft machine, as it can only cut thinner materials. This may be fine depending on the type of projects you will be creating. Some users don’t have a need to cut leather or balsa wood. It does have all the features that we can expect from a die cut machine in this price range, having dual carriages and Bluetooth functionality. One main advantage of using a Cameo is that it can work without the internet and has powerful software for creating custom designs.

Scan and Cut includes some awesome features that you won’t find in other similar products, including an LCD touchscreen display that provides on-screen editing, predefined designs so that you can print and cut without having to use software, as well as use self-calibration mode to accurately adjust blade settings.

Silhouette Cameo is an incredibly powerful machine that can cut through more than 100 materials. It comes with Silhouette Studio, the exclusive design software app made by all Silhouette cutting machines.

Cameo supports multiple tools and a system that automatically identifies which tool you’re using and tweaks software settings accordingly to leave no room for human error.

There are many technical aspects behind Brother Scan and Cut and Silhouette Cameo, which we are taking into account when comparing the two cutting machines. Here they are:

Keep in mind that there are multiple models available for these two cutting machines. For the purpose of this article, we took into account Silhouette Cameo 4 and Brother Scan and Cut 2 CM650W since they are currently the most powerful machines from the Silhouette and Brother families.

Cameo is much larger than Scan and Cut, but the difference isn’t that significant when it comes to the weight – only 1.73 lbs (800 g). However, this means that you will need a larger workspace dedicated to Cameo, without including the space necessary to perform cuts, store accessories, or use the software.

Neither machine is portable, though, so it would be slightly awkward to pack up the machine and carry it in a bag whenever you’re on the move, whether you proceed with the Brother cutting machine or Silhouette Cameo.

When it comes to the maximum cutting length, Cameo surpasses Scan and Cut in both cases: with and without a mat. While Brother Scan and Cut is limited to a length of 11.76 in (30 cm) with a mat and 23.76 in (60 cm) without a mat, Cameo goes further to 24 in (61 cm) with a mat and 10 ft (3 m) without a mat.

Both Brother Scan and Cut 2 and Silhouette Cameo are equipped with cutting and drawing abilities. However, only Cameo comes equipped with a Dual-Carriage to perform both jobs at the same time. So, if you were to go with Scan and Cut 2, you would have to set up a multi-step operation that involves manually installing the blade, waiting until the cutting is done, then replacing the blade with a pen and waiting until it finishes writing or drawing the design.

Brother Scan and Cut has a maximum cutting force of 0.77 lbs (350 g), which is more than enough to cut softer materials that are up to 0.08 in (2 mm) thick. On the other hand, Silhouette Cameo is one of the most powerful cutting machines in the market, with a downward force of 11 lbs (5 kg), making it capable of gliding and rolling through materials that are up to 0.12 in (3 mm) thick.

What does this mean for you? If you have a niche business that’s focused on softer materials, like paper, vinyl, and everything in between, you will have no problems by choosing Brother Scan and Cut. However, if you ever want to expand your business and explore thicker materials like foam or wood paper sheets, you must choose Silhouette Cameo.

Speaking of materials, Brother Scan and Cut isn’t that versatile since it supports fewer than 20 materials, such as paper (printer, scrapbook, cardstock, vellum, tracing, poster board), fabric (thin cotton, flannel, felt), and magnetic sticker or seal. But Silhouette Cameo is compatible with more than 100 materials, such as glass-etching cream heat transfer (glitter, metallic, reflective, etc.), vinyl (glossy, matte, whiteboard, printable, etc.), wood paper sheets, cork, and cotton canvas or fabric.

Additionally, Silhouette Cameo has a Crosscutter, which makes it possible to cut vinyl or heat transfer without a mat, as well as to cut finished products so that you don’t have to do it manually by using a pair of scissors.

When it comes to Brother Scan and Cut, you can use the LCD touchscreen display and its on-screen editing features in order to rotate, resize, combine and use more image manipulation options.

It has a high resolution of 600 DPI, scans designs up to 11.7 in (30 cm) wide, and supports both monochrome and colored photos. You can also adjust the number of colors. Unfortunately, it seems that Brother has trouble scanning preserving the sharp colors of images scanned with low contrast.

Silhouette Cameo uses PixScan technology and edge detection to replicate images that you scan or photograph using your smartphone. The designs must be placed on a special PixScan cutting mat.

Silhouette Cameo also has an exclusive design application, which is called Silhouette Studio, and is used by all Silhouette cutting machines. It works with Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS (you can find it as Silhouette Go on the Play Store and App Store).

However, when purchasing Cameo, you will also receive 100 exclusive designs available for download, along with a 30-day free trial to the Silhouette Design Store, where you can explore, download and use even more templates.

There is one key aspect when Brother Scan and Cut overcomes Silhouette Cameo. It comes with more than 1100 built-in designs, 140 quilt patterns, and 15 fonts that you can use in your projects without having to resort to a computer and software application. It’s because it has an internal memory module, which can also remember your designs in case you want to reuse them later.

Thanks to the LCD touchscreen display with on-screen editing options, you can make simple tweaks to the templates before starting the cutting operation. On top of that, Scan and Cut lets you upload designs from a USB flash drive.

You shouldn’t have any problems connecting your computer to the cutting machine since both Brother Scan and Cut and Silhouette Cameo support USB and wireless connectivity. The only difference is that you need to join the same Wi-Fi network on your computer and Brother machine, while Cameo supports Bluetooth connectivity. The type of wireless connection doesn’t actually matter since you still need to be in the range of the cutting machine – you can’t run jobs remotely.

Both cutting machines come in various sizes, models, and prices. The most significant difference is when it comes to the maintenance costs, however. If you want to buy extra blades, mats, and accessories later, you will find them at affordable prices for Silhouette Cameo. However, the accessory prices are outrageous for Brother Scan and Cut.

Plus, you can explore predefined designs on the LCD touchscreen display without having to resort to a computer and a piece of software. There are more than 1100 built-in designs, 140 quilt patterns, and 15 fonts put at your disposal. On-screen editing options are available, too, so that you can rotate, resize or weld images together.

Brother Scan and Cut isn’t that versatile when it comes to the type of materials it can cut (fewer than 20), which is limited by the 0.12 in (3 mm) material clearance. So, if you ever plan on expanding your niche business, you might have to upgrade to a more powerful cutting machine.

Although Brother Scan and Cut has some unique features, like cutting designs straight from a USB flash drive and without using a software application, we think that Cricut Maker 3 is better. It supports a wide range of tools, can cut through over 300 materials, and its accessories are really affordable.

Yes, you can connect an iPad to Silhouette Cameo 4 as well as download, install and use Silhouette Go from the App Store to create, prepare and send designs for cutting.

The bottom line is that Silhouette Cameo is better than Brother Scan and Cut in almost all aspects. Its cutting force is unmatched, even better than Cricut Maker 3. You can use it to cut over 100 materials, including thick ones like foam or balsa wood.

Cameo tweaks blade settings almost completely automatic and can cut designs that have been already processed. You can also use it to scan images, cut and draw simultaneously, and create matless cuts up to 10 ft (3 m) long.

Furthermore, Silhouette Studio is super intuitive and doesn’t require any kind of graphic editing experience. Finally, Cameo is significantly cheaper than Scan and Cut when taking into account the cost of maintenance (tools, mats, materials, etc.).

The Cameo 4 utilises the space used as a tool storage compartment in the Cameo 3 to house a roll feeder doing away with having to purchase the external roll feeder often sold alongside the Cameo 3.

The Silhouette Cameo 4 also allows the user to die-cut through materials without the need for a mat. The tool head is offset and that matched with the grooved cutting strip allows the machine to cut through materials without the need to apply the media to a carrier sheet first.
