I"ve got an LCD controller on order from sondors and aliexpress so I can raise the speed limit of the sondors rear hub motor...... right now i use the rear sondors motor to get off the line, up hills, etc.... for help under 20 mph.... then the front dir drive motor is for cruising above 20mph - 26mph.

May not be compatible with latest sondors bikes. Check to see if your throttle has an on/off switch, if it does not it may not be compatible. If in doubt make sure you check the bike before buying this product

NOTE: This unit is not compatible with newer Sondors bikes UNLESS you upgrade to our controller as well which we highly recommend. Our controller will give you much better performance.

This has been custom programmed for the Sondors bike. We custom changed the settings so it clones the original Sondors dashboard without the speed limit so you can go 30mph if you want to (for off road use only)

Yes it works with the Thin version as well, but also requires you use the sondors controller we sell. Preferably this one since it is easier to install.

Eliminating the speed limit is not the same thing as increasing the speed. Higher voltage equals higher speed while higher amps equals more torque. The controller/display upgrade gives you more torque because it pulls more amps but it does not mean that your battery is somehow now able to provide more voltage. However it does give you the capability to wire in a higher voltage battery, whereas the original controller would have simply burnt out if you wired up a higher voltage battery.

No, this is for use with the Sondors eBikes, some models require using a different controller. See description tab on product listing page for more details.

The front fork is a solid fork which makes sense but you can feel bumps on uneven roads. Again this isn’t an off-road mtb, it is a folding electric bike. I am very happy with the comfort level of Sondors, I am just letting you know about some problems you may face.

So maybe we must judge the comfort of the bike based on its category, price, and promises. I never hear Sondors claim to be the most comfortable e-bike regardless of the terrain. It is rather a folding electric bike which can be used on off-road (moderate level) and it is giving a  comfortable ride for those purposes.

I review chaincover and mudguard in the comfort part. As it may affect your ride quality in rainy weather. Sondors don’t offer mudguards at their standard product and I am not sure if it can be purchased as I didn’t see it on their accessories page.

Sondors don’t come with a chaincover but it comes with double layer crank. This is making chain stay in position rather than protecting your pants. But it is a nice well thought feature.

Sondors come with a standard solid fork. I hear many complain about not having suspension forks but I totally support Sondors decision here. It is a folding bike mainly designed for asphalt roads. So a solid fork will do the work very well. Besides most of those suspension forks used in this price e-bikes are very low quality which may create lots of problems. So rather than having a low-quality suspension fork with a very low travel, I prefer to have a solid fork like Sondors have which is reliable.

Sondors is not one of the lightest electric folding bikes but not so heavy too for an electric bike. It weighs over 55 lbs which is OK-ish.  Height and geometry is very well designed and handlebar angle can be adjusted.

Assembly seems slightly harder than other electric folding bikes but nothing you can’t do at your home. And I know Sondors has a strong family of riders who are more than happy to help you If you face any problems.

Good display with an appealing 3.5″ color LCD. The display on the SONDORS MXS is large and clear, making it easy to keep track of your speed, distance traveled, and more.

Unlike other electric bikes that use cheap materials that can rust over time, the SONDORS MXS has a stainless steel chain that will last for years without corroding or rusting.

The Sondors Fold XS is a folding Class 2 ebike (Class 3 optional) with playful fat tires, a low wheelbase, telescoping handlebars and a powerful 750watt Bafang rear hub motor with responsive cadence sensor, twist throttle, and 80Nm of torque. The Fold XS has been upgraded in 2020 to make it even more user friendly. The folding frame collapses down so this bike will fit in your trunk or truck bed and the extended one-year warranty is a valuable addition on a direct-to-consumer ebike. Sondors has long been a presence in the ebike space and offers several bikes for users of all abilities. The Fold XS provides a good option for those who want a sturdy folding ebike with impressive kick. The base model does not include extra accessories which keeps the bike price low so you don’t pay for extras you don’t need. The XS is currently offered online from Sondors for $1699 in two colors: Torch orange and Graphite gray. The XS only comes in one frame size, but there are several adjustable features to make it work for riders of all sizes. This is a peppy ebike that is great for trail riding, off-road recreation, zipping around town, or taking a jaunt along the beach.

The Fold XS has a 48 V 14Ah Lithium-ion battery tucked inside the bike frame so it isn’t in the way while riding and stays protected when the bike is folded. This battery will provide about 25 miles of straight electric power and from 40 to 60 miles of range on pedal assist. Total range varies a little with each rider and is affected by assist level, terrain, and any cargo weight. The charging port is located at the front of the top tube and protected by a color-matched port cover. Be careful however, as there is not a tether attached to the port cover so it could get lost or dropped when you pop it off the bike. If you lose the port cover, the exposed port could get dirt or grit inside which would damage the battery. The Sondors XS battery is cylinder shaped for easy removal — simply fold the bike in half and slide the battery out of the base of the top tube. No tools are required to fold the bike or remove the battery. It can also be charged both on or off the bike. A 3amp charger is included which will recharge the battery in roughly 3-5 hours.

We like that Sondors has placed the charging port on the right side of the bike, so when you engage the kickstand or fold the bike, the port is on the exterior side — which both keeps it up off the ground and makes it easier to access when charging.

An extra battery (or replacement) is available from Sondors for $389 which is an affordable price for a full battery. You can take an extra battery along for a longer trip to avoid range anxiety, or just keep one around for backup as needed. The battery weighs roughly 7.5 pounds.

The Sondors XS has a rear hub Bafang motor with 750 watts of nominal power, 1000 watts of peak power, and 80Nm of torque. The Sondors XS includes a sensitive 12-magnet cadence sensor that is highly responsive. Usually with a cadence sensor there is a short lag before the assist kicks in, but Sondors has dialed in the sensitivity on this 12-magnet system to make the assist instantly responsive. Usually on bikes with a cadence rather than torque sensor you have to add a bit of throttle to offset the bike weight when starting from a full stop due to the slight lag in cadence detection. The XS doesn’t have this problem so you can quickly start from a full stop on pedal assist alone. (Although a touch of throttle provides a nice kick.)

The computer display is a Sondors branded Bafang DCP-18. It is not removable but there is a charging port on the right side. The backlit display is 3.25” large and has pretty good visibility. As with any display, it can be challenging to see in very low (garage) or very bright (full sunlight) conditions.

This display is not removable, so you can’t take it off the bike. It is subject to the elements should you leave your bike out (in the rain, sun, etc.).

The display fits seamlessly into the handlebar system — it is easy to see but not in the way since it is mounted on the left handlebar (shifters and throttle are on the right).

The Fold XS does not include lights. In keeping with Sondors policy of providing affordable bikes to every rider, the XS includes minimal accessories so riders don’t pay for extras they don’t need. Lights would need to be purchased after market. Sondors does not currently list lights as an available accessory on their website. We always like to see lights — they keep you more visible as well as improve overall safety while riding. Even a rear reflector would help a ton here without adding weight or much cost, so we recommend riders consider adding lights or reflectors after purchase.

The Sondors XS has Tektro Auriga 180 mm disc brakes with four-finger brake levers for more precise control. Even though the XS is a class 2 bike that limits the speed to 20mph (as opposed to 28mph on class 3 bikes), the Bafang motor is well known for its power and kick — as a result, responsive brakes are important since you need to manage the higher speed of an ebike. These Tektro brakes have good stopping power thanks to the 180mm rotors so you can always feel in control of the bike. Motor inhibitors also shut off motor power any time you tap the brakes so you don’t brake and run the motor at the same time.

The air suspension fork helps a ton here to mitigate bumps and jarring from the road. The fork provides 45mm of travel and is both lockable and adjustable. Sondors has outfitted this bike with a 30mm suspension seat post which provides a lot of rider comfort from bumps and dips in the road. The seatpost has a preload adjustment bolt in the base and a quick-release skewer so you can easily raise and lower the seat.

The aluminum alloy frame is sturdy and looks hearty. Sondors has dialed in the folding mechanism so it is easy to fold up and stays folded thanks to the magnetic locking system. The cabling is all connected and integrated so it stays protected and tucked inside the frame. This keeps the design sleek and uncluttered.

The XS only comes in one size, but the handlebars can be raised and angled per the needs of different size riders. The seat lifts and lowers as well. Sondors claims the XS will work for riders of all sizes, although those over 6’3” and under 5’0” may have to adjust a little.

The 7-speed 14-28T gear system on the XS Fold provides just a bit of range but isn’t really extensive enough to offset steep hills or a hard climb, especially since the bike weighs 68 pounds. Thankfully, that’s what the powerful 750watt Bafang motor is for. The gears do allow for higher cadence, lower torque riding on flats and uneven terrain and this is where the XS Fold really shines. Fatty low-profile tires like this love sand, dirt, gravel and other off-road surfaces which is part of the appeal of the Sondors XS. The rear derailleur is standard, but Sondors has upgraded the chain to stainless steel to prevent rust. A 48T steel chainring in the front helps as well and we particularly like the double guard chain system and protective cover.

The Sondors Fold XS is a sporty, folding ebike with a powerful rear hub motor, integrated battery, 20” fatty tires and a nice color LCD display. The Fold XS battery is tucked into the frame so it isn’t in your way when getting on and off the bike. The battery is easily removable — it slides in and out of the tob tube and doesn’t require tools — and it is color matched to the frame for a seamless design. There are bosses for a rear rack and the bike has a handy telescoping kickstand. The Fold XS will go 25 miles on electric power alone and 40 – 60 miles with pedal assist. This fun urban bike is well suited for a bit of beach scrambling, heading off road, trail riding or just a quick jaunt around town. The Fold XS lacks front and rear fenders and does not have front or rear lights, or reflective stripes on the tires — so there are a few things to be aware of. It folds in half easily and stays locked — but it is difficult to lift and move when folded. Even strong owners may have a hard time getting this bike into the back of a car trunk or into a truck bed simply due to the weight.

We do love the crisp Torch colored frame (also available in Graphite), and the 750 watt Bafang motor is plenty powerful. You get 80Nm of torque and Sondors has dialed in the sensitivity to make sure riders feel the power right at the get-go. The 7-speed gear range is adequate but not extensive and the rear derailleur is entry-level but does the job if you shift carefully. We are impressed by the 180mm hydraulic disc brakes! These are ebike specific and provide instant stopping power which is needed on this sporty bike. The suspension seat post, gel saddle and locking ergo grips also add comfort while riding.

Sondors bikes can be ordered online directly from the manufacturer which saves on cost but limits buyers’ ability to ride and test the bikes. The Fold XS is currently on pre-order and listed at $1699.

Sondors has long been a recognized name in the ebike industry and we like the upgrades they’ve made to the Fold XS with a new rust resistant chain and responsive pedal assist. This is a class 2 ebike with class 3 potential so make sure you are aware of local ebike laws when riding the Fold XS. As always, handle responsibly and enjoy — we look forward to a test ride soon ourselves!

Many other eBike manufacturers use a custom aluminum alloy, but with Sondors you’ll get a 100% aluminum based frame. As a result, the Sondors X is a very sturdy eBike frame, and one able to support over 300 lbs with the right rider and some weight distribution if you want to bring some extra cargo with you. However, while the durability and weight support are great, the major downside is that, combined with the other electrical components, the Sondors X does weigh about 70.9 lbs. If you lift the Sondors X, be especially careful when you lift it from the rear tire, since that is where the motor and many other electronic components are located that make the eBike back heavy.

The other concern with the Sondors X is that, while it comes in three great colors, it is currently only available in one model style and size. Sondors has included some adjustable components to help different adults find a more comfortable riding position, and between other reviews and Sondors recommendations we think it’s a great eBike for those between 5’ and 6’6’’. This should be enough for your typical adult rider, though if you fall outside of this size range you will want to consider a smaller, shorter bike like the Sondors Fold X.

The Sondors Fold X is a Class 2 eBike that can provide motor assistance up to 20 MPH, activated by either the throttle or through the pedal assist system.

The 500 W Bafang motor included with the Sondors X is one of the weaker motors provided by Sondors, but it is still more than sufficient for city riding and for light to moderate trail riding. The weaker motor does have a benefit when combined with the improved 48 V / 17.5 Ah lithium, draining less power so you can travel farther on every charge. Typically, you can travel between 40 to 60 miles on a full charge, though a few riders and reviewers noted that they managed to go even farther with optimal riding conditions before their battery ran out of power.

The Sondors display is located in the center of the handlebars, so a quick glance down is all you need to track and control your eBike motor. We think that the 3.25’’ LCD screen is an ideal size, since it’s large enough to make reading your metrics quick and easy without being so large that it weighs down your handlebars excessively. If we have one major complaint, it’s that unlike the other Sondors bikes this LCD display is greyscale instead of a color monitor. That means that the LCD display can be very difficult to read at night or in dark environments, so make sure to bring a headlamp or some other lighting to help illuminate it if you do go out at night.

The five assist levels will help you prioritize and balance whether you want greater motor power and speed against battery life and range while you ride. Lower assist levels will help you travel farther, but won’t provide as strong of a push as you make use of the pedal cadence sensors. Higher assist levels help you get to 20 MPH quicker, but drain the battery faster and often cause you to waste power because of it. As a class 2 eBike, the Sondors X does come with a throttle as well that will allow you to turn on the motor with your thumb, but it is unaffected by the assist level and will provide the same push every time you press it.

While a powerful motor is included with the Sondors X, it will shut off once it hits 20 MPH in order to make it legal to operate the eBike without any additional licensing or age requirements. If you are unfamiliar with eBikes, you will be pleased to know they ride just like normal eBikes even when you aren’t using the motor or the battery runs out of power. Additionally, you can also pedal faster than the 20 MPH speed cap, relying on the motor to help you build your speed or cushion you if you find yourself tiring out or slowing down. Just make sure you use the proper pedal assist level, or you might wind up wasting power and running out of juice before you reach your destination.

On Streets- Larger tires are generally designed for mountain biking rather than city riding, but the Sondors X still handles great on urban roads as well. The 26’’ size makes them very stable and shock absorbent, and are well suited for cobblestone, gravel, and other uneven roads that typical city tires can sometimes struggle with. While large at 4.9’’ wide, it is part of the reason why the Sondors X is able to support over 300 lbs.

Turn Radius- The downside to having thick, wide tires is that it does make it harder to perform a sharp turn. The Sondors X does well enough that you won’t have a problem dodging other cyclists on the trail or cars on the road, but it will struggle if you have a tight alleyway or narrow door or passageway you need to go through. If you take your time, you can make a tight turn without too much trouble, but you’ll want something like the Fold X or XS if you prefer an eBike that is more suited for sharp turns in the city.

Low Speed Handling- This is an over 70 lbs eBike, so it can be difficult to handle at lower speeds. Fortunately, there are two options that will greatly help you navigate at lower speeds, though both require you to make use of the battery and motor. A walk mode is included with the Sondors X electric bike, which will provide you with a small push while you’re walking alongside the eBike on the ground. Alternatively, you can also make use of one of the lower power assist modes, which will also provide you with small motor power that will make pedaling easier if you’re still on the bike. Just be careful not to use the throttle at low speeds, since it’s set for a higher power assistance level and can cause the Sondors X to shoot out from you at higher speeds.

The Sondors X drivetrain is primarily made up of Shimano components, featuring a MF-TZ500-7 14-28 Tooth Freewheel connected with a rust resistant steel chain to the 48 T chainring. If you need to shift, the 7 speed drivetrain changes gears with the aid of a Shimano Tourney Derailleur and Shimano RevoShift Grip Twister. The main draw of this drivetrain is that it utilizes a freewheel setup, which gives you extra pedal options and is specifically designed to make climbing hills easier. With a freewheel, you can proper your eBike by pedaling forwards or backwards, with backwards pedaling great for loosening up your calf and thigh muscles if they tighten up during long rides. It is a simple drivetrain, and the 7 speed shifting along with the smaller 14-28 T freewheel might not be sufficient for your advanced, experienced cyclist. Shimano makes very reliable drivetrains though, so this is a drivetrain you won’t have to do much to maintain or repair as you ride the Sondors X electric bike.

While it might not feature the more advanced hydraulic disc brakes used by other Sondors eBikes, the Tektro mechanical disc brakes with 180 mm rotors is still a fantastic setup for this hybrid eBike. The brakes are more than enough for city riding, and are capable of helping riders riding fast downhill come to a quick, steady, and stable stop. This is especially true due to the integrated brake and motor design, with the brakes shutting off the motor automatically when you pull on the levers. By having an integrated design, you not only come to a stop quicker, but will extend the life of the brakes and motor system alike. As a final note, we appreciate the large four-finger levers, since they not only give you plenty of space to grip but have strong tension feedback that makes it even more fun to apply the brakes while you ride.

The Sondors X does not offer much in terms of suspension, though it does have a standard front fork that provides some shock absorption when you hit the occasional rough patch. Whether you’ll want to add further suspension ultimately depends on the kind of riding that you want to prioritize with the Sondors X electric bike. If you prefer to stick to urban riding, the large tires will provide enough support that you don’t really need much more in terms of suspension on city roads. Alternatively, if you want to get some trail riding in, especially on more moderate to hard mountain paths, you will benefit greatly from replacing the saddle, steam, and even fork with some degree of suspension. If you are looking for a pure mountain bike, going with the Sondors XS or MXS will be better options as well. Otherwise, the Sondors X is still a great hybrid option for everyone else who only wants to engage in some trail riding from time to time.

The Sondor X continues to stand out as a great electric bike thanks to its Wellgo aluminum platform pedals. Plastic pedals are inexpensive, but they’re easy to break and don’t provide a ton of great weight support for cyclists. Aluminum pedals cost more, but are more durable and provide superior traction support, especially for riders who weigh more. These pedals also benefit from having side reflectors, which do increase the rider’s profile and reduce the chance that they’ll suffer a collison. Overall, these are great pedals, and a surprising inclusion given how inexpensive the Sondors X electric bike is.

Snug ergonomic rubber grips are included with the Sondors X electric bike, which means you can ride for several hours and build up a sweat while still maintaining a tight hold and be protected against chafing. The grips are also locked onto the handlebars, so if you want to replace them once they get worn out it’s very simple to do so. As to the saddle, it is a Selle Royale Gel saddle that sits on a 270 mm seat post, both of which can be upgraded and replaced if you have your own favorite or suspension option in mind. The stock saddle and stem post are enough for most riders who purchase this eBike, especially those who intend to use the Sondors XS primarily for city and urban riding.

Of the Sondors electric bike lineup, the Sondors X has the largest tires in terms of volume, featuring Chaoyang Big Daddy tires that measure 26″ by 4.9″. These tires sit on aluminum alloy double wall 36 hole rims, with stainless steel spokes that are 13 gauge on the front tire and 12 guage on the rear tire. These tires have a recommended inflation rating set for 5 to 20 PSI, with 5 PSI great for sand and loose dirt while 20 PSI is better when you intend to ride on asphalt. The great tire stability means that while they might not be the quickest tires out there, they are designed so that you can have a great time riding almost anywhere without having to swap out your tires. One thing they are lacking though is any sort of reflective tape, so make sure to throw some to make it easier to spot you while riding, especially while riding at night!

This is a very affordable eBike, and with an adjustable kickstand there’s not much you really need in terms of critical accessories to make it a fun eBike to ride. However, the one thing it is lacking that is important for every cyclist is a proper lighting system. There isn’t a headlight or tail light, which makes it significantly harder to spot the cyclist when they’re riding at night. If you purchase the Sondors X electric bike, we highly recommend adding a LED system to your electric bike to greatly reduce the risk of suffering a collison.

The Sondors X is bike built for all types of riders, whether it be for commuting to work or for exploring your favorite mountain trail. The pure aluminum frame is built tough, providing over 300 lbs of weight support that helps justify the heavy 70 lbs total assembly weight. The class 2 eBike has a highly accurate pedal cadence sensor and throttle, giving you two options to take advantage of the Bafang 500 watt motor and 17.5 Ah lithium battery in order to travel up to 60 miles on a single charge. The LCD display offers a wide range of metrics you can track while you’re riding, sitting in the center of the swept back handlebars that, combined with the Royale Gel seat and ergonomic grips, will make every ride a smooth and comfortable experience. This is especially true due to the reliable Shimano drivetrain and Tektro 180 mm rotor mechanical disc brakes, allowing you to rapidly pedal or come to a quick stop on float roads and steep hills alike. Given the very affordable price of this electric bike, those who are new to eBikes or are looking to add a fun secondary bike to their collection will greatly enjoy trying out the Sondors X electric bike!

A quick look at the Sondors Electric Bikes slick and well-designed website, and you get a clear flavor of the modernized rides on offer that leave conventional bicycles in the past.

Sondors opened in February 2015. Their massively successful crowdfunding campaign saw the Sondors Original hit the market. Following on from this, the brand established two more several-million dollar crowdfunding campaigns.

With such success early on, Sondors played a significant role in pioneering the world of electric bicycles, with the company claiming that they are "responsible for revolutionizing the way the world views affordable electric transportation for the masses." Nowadays, about 200,000 customers own Sondors bikes worldwide.

Arguably the best electric bike sold by Sondors is their all-weather XS, which also happens to be their most powerful all-terrain bicycle. With a 750W motor, it can hit speeds as high as 20 mph. It comes with a 48 volt 17.5 Ah lithium-ion battery enabling you to travel as much as forty to sixty miles with a fully charged battery.

In total, there are five levels of electric pedal assist, and the bike also employs a signature series 7-speed derailleur. The Sondors XS also features premium hydraulic brakes and a color display. This ride is available in red or black.

Another all-weather and all-terrain Sondors bike is the X. It too has a 48 volt 17.5 Ah lithium-ion battery, albeit it has a 500-watt motor rather than a 750W unit. That said, it can still reach a maximum speed of 20 mph. It also has a range of forty to sixty miles. It comes with a black/white LCD display, a forged aluminum frame, and seven-speed gears with a grip shifter.

It is not quite as high-quality as the XS, but the Sondors X still provides plenty to meet most customers" needs and all for $500 less than the cost of buying the XS.

Beyond that, the Sondors Fold XS comes with premium ergonomic gel seats, premium ergonomic handlebars, and a heavy-duty kickstand. Its color LCD display includes a USB port as well as five pedal assist levels, among other awesome and useful features. Further, the Fold XS is fitted with adjustable air shocks; a 12 magnet pedal assist sensor and hydraulic brakes with 180mm discs.

Sondors is a promising electric bike brand that has been around for more than half a decade now, and with the prospect of electrification in the automotive industry, we"re feeling pretty optimistic about the world of electric bikes for the decade ahead. We expect to see a lot more of them out on our streets and mountains throughout the 2020s, including rides like the Sondors XS.
