The electric bicycle industry is still in its adolescent phase, and the budget e-bike category is even younger. That makes a company like Sondors, which debuted its first $500 budget electric bike back in 2015, practically a dinosaur.

But if you thought Sondors wasn’t relevant anymore, then think again. The company not only has an expansive line of diverse e-bike models, but is now launching a new campaign known as Electric For Everyone designed to get more bottoms on e-bike seats. And you’ll want to pay attention to the deals Sondors is including with this campaign.

With many of Sondors’ e-bikes sporting prices in the four-figure territory, the company’s latest Electric for Everyone campaign is turning heads for its never-before-seen-pricing.

Storm Sondors, the creator of the award-winning Sondors Electric Bike, believes in an electric future so much he’s willing to wager his own company so everyone can afford a Sondors. That’s according to a new campaign, launched officially to the public today under the banner “#ElectricForEveryone,” and through which the company is offering the lowest entry price point ever to buy a Sondors Electric Bike with only $299 due upfront.

Of course the $299 deposit is only the beginning, with the total price of the bikes ranging from $799 to $1,699 depending on how fancy of a Sondors model you’re after. Here’s the list below with current sale prices:

I’ve been reimagining the future of Sondors, and the future of this industry. When I started this company back in 2015, it was because I wanted to make an e-bike that was affordable for everyone. In five years, we put 50,000 e-bikes on the road. We created a market for e-bikes in the U.S. where there was none. Then the industry exploded, becoming distorted by a slew of overpriced competitors, and we had to raise our prices. That’s why I made the decision to bring things back to why I started this mission in the first place: to make Electric For Everyone.

The $799 Sondors Original is your standard, generic fat tire e-bike with a 350W motor, a top speed of 20 mph (32 km/h) and a max range of between 25-40 miles (45-64 km) depending on whether using throttle or pedal assist. It’s got an LCD screen, mechanical disc brakes, a twist throttle and pedal assist. There’s nothing particular fancy about it, but there’s nothing particularly cheap about it either. It’s just a good, simple, decent e-bike for a killer price. There are a few of the first-edition Sondors e-bikes floating around the Electrek team, and they still hold up remarkably well to this day.

That same $799 will also score you a Sondors Thin, which is more of a commuter-friendly version of the Sondors Original. Which is to say: less ridiculously fat tires.

And while we don’t have any specifics yet, Sondors is rumored to be working on something big to debut this year. Of course just about everyone is debuting something big this year, though Sondors is likely to have one of the more affordable products on the horizon, if history tells us anything.

What do you think of Sondors’ new pricing scheme? What do you think the company’s next “something big” product will be? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

We haven’t had foldable bikes before so our expectations might be a bit odd. However, we weren’t impressed with the design. The individual parts are generally decent, as has been pointed out in this review, but they weren’t put together quite well. The crankset was a bit crooked, the magnets were as well, so they were scraping against the body. The chain was also catching as it was spun causing some issues. The disk brakes were misaligned. Some fairly typical out-of-the-box issues but not something you want to handle at home after spending $1,500 plus tax and dragging it home from Costco. What’s not quite excusable is the state of the instructions which were, to put it lightly, terrible. They didn’t include all instructions needed to assemble the bike. They didn’t include instructions on the proper way to fold the bike and to handle the bike when folded (see below for ways to destroy your bike accidentally when it is folded). You can figure these things out through trial and error, but doing that with a $1,500 bike that you need to trust with your life at 20mph+ among car traffic seems unwise. I’m planning to take the bike to a professional bike mechanic for a re-build but that’ll add $200+ to the price, meaning that this is actually a $1,700/$1,900 bike depending on if you bought it from Costco or Sondors. At this price point, the bike is completely uncompetitive and is going up against actually well designed and built e-bikes built by reliable manufacturers with lots of experience with regular and folding bikes. A bare-bones DIY bike is only a good value when it is cheaper than the all-included luxury competition.

The lack of a foldable handlebar makes it extremely difficult to maneuver into your car or around the apartment since it can’t lay flat horizontally despite constantly wanting to and the handlebar will catch on everything. I found it easier to push in my old, non-foldable bike simply because it was much lighter, and I only needed to worry about the handlebar catching on everything. With this Sondors bike the extra weight was too much to handle easily what with a lack of good hand holds, even when folded, and the added difficulty to dislodge the pedals and wheel spokes from anything they caught on since they constantly caught on other parts of the bike.

The front fork is a solid fork which makes sense but you can feel bumps on uneven roads. Again this isn’t an off-road mtb, it is a folding electric bike. I am very happy with the comfort level of Sondors, I am just letting you know about some problems you may face.

So maybe we must judge the comfort of the bike based on its category, price, and promises. I never hear Sondors claim to be the most comfortable e-bike regardless of the terrain. It is rather a folding electric bike which can be used on off-road (moderate level) and it is giving a  comfortable ride for those purposes.

I review chaincover and mudguard in the comfort part. As it may affect your ride quality in rainy weather. Sondors don’t offer mudguards at their standard product and I am not sure if it can be purchased as I didn’t see it on their accessories page.

Sondors don’t come with a chaincover but it comes with double layer crank. This is making chain stay in position rather than protecting your pants. But it is a nice well thought feature.

Sondors come with a standard solid fork. I hear many complain about not having suspension forks but I totally support Sondors decision here. It is a folding bike mainly designed for asphalt roads. So a solid fork will do the work very well. Besides most of those suspension forks used in this price e-bikes are very low quality which may create lots of problems. So rather than having a low-quality suspension fork with a very low travel, I prefer to have a solid fork like Sondors have which is reliable.

Sondors is not one of the lightest electric folding bikes but not so heavy too for an electric bike. It weighs over 55 lbs which is OK-ish.  Height and geometry is very well designed and handlebar angle can be adjusted.

Assembly seems slightly harder than other electric folding bikes but nothing you can’t do at your home. And I know Sondors has a strong family of riders who are more than happy to help you If you face any problems.

A well-known name in the Ebike space, the first Sondors Ebike had a modern and unique start. It was crowdfunded and this, along with the bold claims that producing an Ebike would only cost $500, garnered it a lot of publicity.

However, Sondors defied the critics and was successful in shipping and producing that first model. Since then, they have transitioned into a more typical company structure, producing many different models.

The secret to Sondor’s low prices is the fact their bikes do not include any accessories, and while these can be bought from Sondors at an additional cost, many owners prefer to add their own accessories from other brands they trust or to get creative with DIY solutions.

If you’re stuck on what accessories you would need for your bike though, don’t worry – Sondors has a bustling online community always willing to help and provide inspiration!

Today, we will be reviewing the Sondors Fold X. While it is considered a sequel of sorts to the original Sondors Fold, due to its popularity it is often just referred to as the Sondors Fold.

The bike’s most surprising feature that makes it stand out from the rest is its very fast folding mechanism. You can fold a Sondors Fold X in a very impressive 10 seconds.

Besides the speedy folding mechanism and minimal folding dimensions, the Sondors Fold X is also affordable, with a clean, integrated battery and motor design.

Sondors bikes have a distinctive and aesthetically pleasing design and the Fold X is no exception. We are particularly impressed with the frame, as it is not only foldable but made of 100% forged aluminum.

What makes Sondors bikes so unique is that their innovative design doesn’t sacrifice extreme performance. In fact, the design and style of their bikes enhance their adaptability, portability, and convenience.

The Sondors Fold X comes with a generous 500 Watt motor, which is plenty for a folding bike of this size, especially if you’ll mainly be riding this bike for your commute. The motor can speed the Fold X to up to 20 miles per hour, getting you to your destination quickly all while looking good!

While Sondors boasts that the Fold X has the motor capacity to offer extreme torque, towing capacity, and hill-climbing power it doesn’t perform as a fully equipped mountain bike would.

The Sondors Fold X uses a 48V 14 Ah battery. This is nearly double the range of its predecessor. It uses a lithium-ion battery that can work on Panasonic, LG, or Samsung cells.

What makes this battery excellent is its sleekness. It complements the Sondors Fold X’s unique cylinder design and fits perfectly into the main section of the tube.

However, the battery is let down slightly by its lack of LED charge indicators that most electric bikes have. To monitor the battery percentage you have to consult the LCD Display Panel.

It’s thanks to the Shimano 7 speed gear cassette with grip shifter that the Sondors Fold X is a hill climber. The 5 levels of electric pedal assistance and 7 manual gear shifts help make the Fold X an extremely versatile model.

Tires should match the build of the bike, and as this is a folding bike the fat tires you will find on other Sondors Sport bikes will not be suitable. However, the tires provided with the Fold X are strong and provide better grip than the tires found on Sondors Sport models.

Sondors boast that their tires are ‘all terrain’ tires, and they are certainly sturdy and fast enough to move as smoothly on sand, dirt, or even snow as they do on pavement. They are a respectable 20 x 4.0 inches in size and are in proportion to the 500 Watt motor.

The aim of the LCD screen was an enhanced touch screen that would only increase the bike’s portability. Sondors definitely achieved this, as you can control the whole bike from the LCD screen.

The screen allows you to select levels of electric pedal assistance, your choice of torque, and other important speed features. You can do all this with a few quick taps. Additionally, the Fold X LCD screen displays your battery levels, your distance traveled, and your speed.

As mentioned in the introduction to this review, the Fold X does not come with any accessories by design. Its lack of accessories is what makes it so affordable. However, Sondors makes up for this by producing high-quality bikes that minimize the need for accessories.

If you would like to purchase accessories or you require accessories further down the line, Sondors do sell accessories on their official website. You can also purchase some accessories from Amazon.
