The Dell Inspiron series is a line of laptop computers made by American company Dell. The first Inspiron laptop model was introduced before 1999.Dell Latitude line, which is aimed mostly at business/enterprise markets, Inspiron is a consumer-oriented line, often marketed towards individual customers as computers for everyday use.

This list is incomplete; the early Dell Inspiron models listed below went through a number of changes from 1999 to 2006, so the specifications on each model may be incomplete or incorrect. There are also some earlier models than these, but those have not been added to the list yet.

Released in 1998, the Dell Inspiron 2100 was a lightweight laptop that Dell branded as "Ultra-Thin & Light" and "Ultra Mobile". Its starting price was $1,699.

Released in 2000, the Dell Inspiron 4000 was a lightweight laptop that Dell branded as "Ultra-Thin & Light" and "Light as a feather, strong as an ox". Its starting price was $1,499.

The Inspiron 8500 and 8600 were mainstream notebooks that were clones of the Latitude D800 and D810. The Inspiron 8500 utilized am Intel Pentium 4 M processor, while the Inspiron 8600 was based on Intel"s Centrino Platform and utilized an Intel Pentium M/Centrino Processor. Since they were clones of the D800/D810, they included many Latitude-specific features such as the Dell D-Dock and the D-bay (which allowed users to swap out the CD drive for a floppy drive or secondary battery). Like the Inspiron 1100/5100 series that was also released in 2003, the 8500 and 8600 were among the first Dell laptops to be offered in Venice Blue and Moonlight Silver. Additionally, snap-on faux-wood lid covers were an available accessory which allowed customers to customize the look of their Inspiron.

Released in late 2005, the Inspiron 1300/B130/B120 is the successor to the Inspiron 2200. The Inspiron B120 is 14-inch, B130 is 15-inch. The Inspiron 1300 is available in both screen sizes. It cost $599 for the base model.

Released in 2003, Inspiron 1100 and 5100 series consisted of five models: the Inspiron 1100, 1150, 5100, 5150, and 5160. Additionally, there was a rebadged version of these models sold as the Latitude 100L. The Inspiron 1100 and 1150 were the budget line of this series, the 5100 and 5160 was the mainstream line, and the 5150 was aimed towards higher end users. This model line were among the first Dell laptops to be offered in Dell’s new color scheme: Venice Blue and Moonlight Silver (1100, 5100, 5150), or Moonlight Silver (1150, 5160, 100L).

This model line was infamous for several well documented problems, which resulted in numerous class action lawsuits against Dell. These issues included: overheating, faulty motherboards, and power supply failures.

The Dell Inspiron Mini Series is a sub-line of subnotebook/netbook computers designed by Dell. The series was introduced in September 2008 amidst the growing popularity of low-cost netbook computers introduced by competitors. This sub-line has since been discontinued.

The webcam is capable of 1 megapixel still images and 720p HD video at 30 fps. The display used is a 15.6-inch FHD non-touch screen with a refresh rate of 60 Hz.

The first-generation Inspiron XPS and Inspiron 9100 (2004–2006) shared the same options in processors (Intel Pentium 4 HT "Prescott"), RAM (DDR 400 MHz), hard-drives (Ultra-ATA 5400/7200 rpm), wireless cards, LCD screens (at 15.4-inches; WXGA, WSXGA+, WUXGA) and graphics cards (ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 64 MB/128 MB), as well as the same chassis. Dell marketed the XPS as an "ultimate gaming machine", while marketed the 9100 as a "desktop replacement". The Inspiron 9100 is a rebadged XPS with the only difference between the two computers is the LCD Panel. Although both support a 15.4 Samsung LCD, only later models of the 9100 (3.2 GHz) use the identical LCD screen (Dell Part #s 7T774/W3866). The Samsung LCD Panel supports 1920×1200. Previous 2.8-3.0 GHz Inspiron 9100 use a lesser panel with resolutions of 1280×800 (Dell Part # Y0316).

In recent years, several Dell Vostro laptops share the same chassis with Inspiron laptops. For example, the Inspiron 14 5000 (5480) and Vostro 14 5000 (5481) uses the same chassis.

Dell acknowledged this problem and designed a new fan with a better heatsink and heatpipes to provide better cooling with less noise. Any repairs made at this point will include the redesigned parts.

On September 20, Inspiron 5150 owners in the US brought a class action against Dell. The settlement included 100% cash reimbursement for certain repairs, and an extended limited warranty to cover those types of repairs that become necessary for one year.

Following the lawsuit detailed above, in October 2006 customers who had purchased Dell Inspiron 1100, 1150, 5100, 5150, and 5160 notebooks filed a class action lawsuit against Dell, alleging misconduct in connection with the design, manufacture, warranting, advertising and selling of these computers. A similar action started in Canada.

On a number of Inspiron 5150 and Latitude 100L systems, a design flaw in the positioning of a tab on the C panel on the underside of the laptop has led to problems.solder between this chip and the motherboard to break. This causes sudden shut-downs of the system as a result of any movement of the laptop; in certain cases the laptop will not re-boot at all. Dell has redesigned later models of the 5150 to avoid this problem. Some models reveal cases where someone has manually snapped off the tab from the C panel by hand during the manufacturing process. Dell currentlyLundell Settlement, although it is not known whether Dell will fix this fault free of charge outside the USA. In January 2007 a similar lawsuit started in Canada

This has also been a problem with the Inspiron 1150, with the same chip giving problems with broken solder. Re-soldering is not recommended. Re-heating the pins can re-establish the connection and solve the power-off problem at the expense of possibly losing the use of the touch-pad mouse.

Dell posted notices to many of their laptop customers on August 14, 2006, saying that the Sony batteries on the following models could combust, or even explode:

Most Dell laptop computers have a special external power supply (PSU) which cannot be replaced by a third-party universal supply. The PSU has what"s called UniqueWare™ Add-Only Memory, known under type DS2501. It is a parasitic power circuit memory chip connected to the center identification pin in the plug, via a 2m long unshielded wire alongside the PSU cable. This chip produces a special signal using a 1 wire communication protocol known as "1-wire" in identifying the PSU as an original Dell PSU. This chip handles all the data needed to authenticate a charge. If a power supply not made by Dell is used, or the cable near the connector becomes damaged as is not infrequent after some use, the PSU stops charging the battery and the CPU runs slower, although the computer can be used indefinitely so long as it remains plugged in. If this problem is present at startup, the message "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge" is displayed. This will continue until the external PSU is replaced. A few third-party suppliers make power supplies with specific provision for Dell computers at lower prices than Dell"s. It is possible to work round the slowdown, but not the battery charging, by installing a CPU clock utility.

Another problem arises after much use with the motherboard power connector; flap-like metal parts which contact the outside of the plug lose their tension and fail to make contact so that power does not reach the computer. The "official" solution is to replace the connector on the motherboard, which requires partial dis-assembly of the computer and desoldering a part with several pins; many companies charge a considerable sum for the work involved. Various simple alternatives have been suggested; for example a thin "skin" of solder on the outside of the barrel of the connector on the PSU (with care not to overheat the connector"s plastic parts; and this thickened connector should not be used with other, not faulty Dell laptops, as it will stretch the springs and damage or even overheat the plug and socket assembly, causing them to melt or bond permanently).

One other problem can happen with the wattage rating of the power supply. There are two Dell power supplies that were used for different Inspiron models which have the same plug assembly and voltage, a 65-watt supply model PA-6 and a 90 watt supply model PA-9. Some models (for example the Inspiron 1100) shipped with a PA-9. If a PA-6 (or equivalent aftermarket supply) is used in these models then the system might not boot at times. In such cases, it will light the battery light for a few seconds when the supply is plugged in. This can also happen if the power supply becomes marginal. Marginal supplies can show as supplying full voltage even if tested with a voltmeter while the supply is plugged into the computer and an attempt is made to turn on the computer.

Some 17" Inspiron 8600, 9200, 9300, 6000, 1750, and XPS Gen 2 notebook LCDs have a vertical line manufacturing defect. Symptoms range from individual lines to entire bars of the screen with inverted colors.

Dell has been very reluctant to replace these panels after guarantee, although there was a direct link to the defective parts from their suppliers. Even warranty customers have had difficulty getting replacements, and replaced screens often develop the defect after a short time.

In some Inspiron laptops an issue exists where a hinge holding the LCD screen may, as a result of the forces resulting from the large screen, rip its plastic standoffs holding it from the chassis. This issue seems to be prevalent on the Inspiron 15-7559

Dell has not been uniform in their repair of such issues with some people not being able to get repair even under warranty and others being able to get repair outside of warranty.

Also, check if there is any issue with the LCD by running LCD BIST (Built in Self-test). To run the LCD BIST, press and hold the D key on the keyboard while pressing the power button, then release both at the same time. This will initiate A grey screen, then Red, then Blue, then Green then White, to allow you to inspect the entire LCD for color purity on each screen and to better identify defect such as cracks in the LCD or stuck pixels that may not be apparent in a normal viewing mode.

As suggested by Paul, connect an external monitor to the system, to check if you are able to get the display on it or not. If you are able to get the display on it, then it appears to be a failure either LVDS Cable or the LCD itself. If you are comfortable opening the system, I would recommend that you first try reseating the LVDS Cable and check if that resolves the issue or not.

If the issue still persist, then first part replacement I recommend is the LVDS Cable and then the LCD. Please refer to the Service Manual for instructions on replacing the hardware components. Please follow the safety guidelines.

This turned out to be a problem with the Motherboard . A dell engineer first replaced the Screen and heatsink which did not resolve the problem. Finally, they replaced the motherboard and the problem disappeared.

The Dell Inspiron N5110 is an old laptop with so many great features like an incredible processor performance. Furthermore, this laptop offers quite a number of ports. However, like most Inspiron laptops, this laptop is quite heavy.

This review contains detailed information about the Dell Inspiron N5110’s design, dimension, and weight. Moreover, the processor, memory, storage, graphics, and battery performance of the laptop will also be discussed in this review.

Also, I will be comparing the Dell Inspiron N5110 with some of its close competitors in various sections of this review. Furthermore, I will be rating this Dell laptop on a scale of one to ten in every section of this review.

Dell, as one of the industry’s oldest manufacturers, has been relentless in delivering laptops that meet or exceed expectations. Moreover, the ability to manufacture laptops with the right specs at a reasonable price demonstrates their dedication to satisfying their target audience.

Thus, to add to its large collection of laptops, in 2011, Dell released the Inspiron N5110. The Dell Inspiron N5110 is a well-designed laptop that bags a lot of reasonable hardware specifications.

To be more precise, this Dell laptop features a powerful processor and multiple GPU options. However, as most of us know, a laptop with lots of great features definitely comes with one or two drawbacks.

Design-wise, the Dell Inspiron N5110 features quite a classy design, which isn’t particularly expected from a 10-year-old laptop – the laptop was released in 2011.

To give more details, this Dell laptop offers a glossy plastic chassis. Although this Dell laptop is mostly made of plastic, the overall build quality of the Dell Inspiron N5110 is quite solid.

In fact, the laptop is so solid that you will hardly notice any flexing around its chassis. To make things even better, the Dell Inspiron N5110 offers a wide range of colors to choose from including black, blue, red, and so on.

When you press this button, it ejects the lid so you can change it to a more fancy or colorful one of your choice. Moreover, there is a “Dell” logo on the center of the laptop’s lid.

Furthermore, this Dell logo has a silver line accent. Although this is just about the only thing you will see on the surface of the lid, it still gives the laptop a rather appealing look thanks to its shiny surface.

Upon opening the lid, you will see a 15.6-inch display with a glossy coating and an HD (1366 x 768) resolution. Moreover, this glossy 15.6-inch display is made with an IPS panel.

Moreover, at the top bezel, you will find an “Inspiron” logo printed in the left corner. In addition to this logo, you will also find an HD webcam neatly placed in the middle of the top bezel.

The reason for this is that the webcam tends to produce burry and grainy images. On a positive note, there is a shiny “Dell” logo nicely placed in the middle of the bottom bezel.

Moving on to the keyboard, the Dell Inspiron N5110 comes with a chiclet-style keyboard. This keyboard features matte-black keys with white lettering on the top.

In terms of ports, the Dell Inspiron N5110 offers a large number of ports. To start with, the laptop features a USB Type-A port, an HDMI port, a USB/eSATA port, and a SO-DIMM slot on the left side.

When it comes to dimension and weight, the Dell Inspiron N5110 measures 376 x 260.2 x 31.4 – 35.2 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 2650 g. With this amount of weight, this Dell laptop is quite heavy and bulky.

However, the laptop should be able to fit nicely in a backpack even though it won’t be particularly comfortable to carry around. Moreover, the Dell Inspiron N5110 weighs less than one of its closest competitors, the Medion Erazer X6817.

In conclusion, although the Dell Inspiron N5110 is bulky and heavy, it features an appealing glossy design. Also, this laptop comes with a large number of ports all distributed around the laptop.

For the processor, the Dell Inspiron N5110 comes with an Intel Core i7-2670QM processor. In terms of speed, this processor offers a base frequency of 2.20 GHz and a boost frequency of 3.10 GHz.

Performance-wise, this processor should be able to handle basically anything you throw at it due to its high clock speed of 3.10 GHz. Therefore, the Dell Inspiron N5110 should be able to run demanding applications likeCorel Draw and also multitask with ease.

Thus, on the Cinebench R10 test, the Dell Inspiron N5110 recorded 4823 points in the single-core test. On the other hand, the laptop recorded 17967 points in the Cinebench R10 multi-core test.

Impressively, the Dell Inspiron N5110 performed better than most of the laptops in its category. For example, the HP Envy 17 3D recorded 4628 points in the Cinebench R10 single-core test.

Also, this HP laptop recorded 17823 points in the multi-core test. Before concluding this section, it is worth stating that the Dell Inspiron N5110 and HP Envy 17 3D use the same processor.

The Dell Inspiron 5110 comes with two RAM slots and a standard memory of 4 GB RAM on one slot. Therefore, with the second slot, you should be able to upgrade the laptop’s RAM to the max size of 8 GB.

However, I don’t really think that would be necessary because the standard 4 GB RAM should offer adequate performance. Basically, with 4 GB RAM, the Dell Inspiron 5110 should be able to run most applications and also multitask with ease.

Speaking of multitasking, the Dell Inspiron N5110 should be able to run 15 chrome tabs simultaneously without lagging. Moreover, when these chrome tabs are running, you should also be able to stream two videos on YouTube.

Moreover, a high score on this test signifies a good memory performance. Thus, based on the PCMark 10 test results, the Dell Inspiron scored 4617 points.

For storage, the Dell Inspiron N5110 offers a 5400 RPM SATA HDD (Hard Disk Drive) storage type. This laptop’s storage drive offers a maximum storage capacity of 500 GB HDD storage.

Moreover, it’s worth mentioning that the higher the MBps value in this benchmark test, the faster the computer’s storage speed. Therefore, according to the CrystalDiskMark test, the Dell Inspiron N5110 recorded a sequential read speed of 63.69 MBps.

In addition to its sequential read speed, this Dell laptop recorded a sequential write speed of 57.51 MBps. Even though HDDs are typically slow compared to other storage drives, this laptop’s HDD has a very terrible read and write speed.

Impressively, the Dell Inspiron N5110 offers two graphics card options. These graphics card options include an Intel HD Graphics 3000 and an NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M.

Notwithstanding, the graphics card is powerful enough to run most outdated games with ease. For example, with the GPU, the Dell Inspiron N5110 should be able to deliver a frame rate of around 100 fps when playing Resident Evil 5.

That said, with its NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M GPU, let us now discuss the Dell Inspiron N5110’s performance on a 3DMark 05 test. Before proceeding, I would like to explain the meaning of the 3DMark 05 test.

Thus, according to the 3DMark 05 test results, the Dell Inspiron N5110 scored 5548 points. Comparatively, this laptop performed slightly better than the Lenovo ThinkPad L520 which scored 5302 points on the benchmark test.

In conclusion, for a non-gaming laptop, the Dell Inspiron N5110 offers decent graphics performance. Moreover, this laptop offers multiple graphics card options including a dedicated graphics card.

For the battery department, the Dell Inspiron N5110 comes with a 6-cell 90 Whr Lithium-ion battery. Dell claims that this laptop’s battery has a runtime of up to 9 hours.

At the end of this battery test, the Dell Inspiron N5110 delivered a battery life of 4 hours and 20 minutes. Even though this battery life is decent, it is way less than Dell’s 9 hours claim.

On a positive note, according to the web-surfing battery test, the Dell Inspiron N5110 has a better battery life compared to the Dell Vostro 3750. Specifically, the Dell Vostro 3750 lasted only 3 hours and 11 minutes on the web-surfing battery test.

To conclude this battery review section, I will rate the Dell Inspiron N5110 an eight out of ten. This rating is due to the fact that the laptop performed better than one of its competitors on a battery test.

Yes, the Dell Inspiron N5110 offers two GPU options. These options include an integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 and a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M.

The Dell Inspiron N5110 is a ten years old laptop that is still very much adequate in today’s world. To give more details, this laptop offers a powerful and fast processor that can handle most computing tasks.

However, this Dell laptop is somewhat bulky and heavy. Nevertheless, if you value performance more than portability, the Dell Inspiron N5110 is an ideal choice!
