The current generation of the TT has been around for a while, but it remains eye-catching and fun to drive. What it isn’t is a thrill machine for two. It’s available as either a coupe or a convertible and comes with a 228-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine; the TTS offers a 288-hp version of this engine with significantly more grunt. Other sports cars such as the Porsche 718 Cayman and Toyota Supra beat the Audi in terms of outright performance, though even the hotter TTS can’t keep up in terms of acceleration and handling prowess. All-wheel drive is standard equipment, as is a dual-clutch automatic transmission but, unfortunately, neither the TT nor TTS are available with a manual transmission—another knock against it in terms of driver engagement.

The base TT receives a new 18-inch wheel design, but it and the TTS are otherwise unchanged. The powerful five-cylinder TT RS bowed out after the 2022 model year.

Now that the more powerful TT RS is gone, we’d probably spend the extra cash for the TTS and its upgraded engine. But the TTS comes only in the coupe bodystyle, so if you want the wind in your hair then the convertible—a.k.a Roadster—is for you.

A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine lives under the hood of the TT, and it generates 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The TTS gets a beefed-up version of this engine that"s tuned to deliver 288 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Both cars use a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with Quattro all-wheel drive. Whether you choose the TT or the TTS, you"ll enjoy responsive handling. The TTS is reasonably quick capable of the 60-mph dash in the low four-second range, but that still trails everything from Toyota Supras to Corvette Stingrays to Porsche 718 Caymans.

According to the EPA, both body styles of the Audi TT are rated for 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. Curiously, the more powerful TTS coupe earned ratings of 23 mpg city and 31 mpg highway, making it a more fuel-efficient choice than rival sports cars such as the Porsche 718 Cayman (21/27 mpg). For more information about the TT"s fuel economy, visit the EPA"s website.

Both the TT and TTS provide cabins that are temples of chic minimalism. The design is graceful and contemporary, and premium materials are used throughout. The front seats offer more comfort than you"d expect from a small sports car. Technically, this coupe model seats four, but the cramped rear seat is best left for luggage and grocery bags. There"s also a dearth of storage nooks within the cabin. The convertible variant of this Audi provides 8 cubic feet of cargo space, while the coupe offers 12 cubic feet.

Navigation, a premium audio system, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are all standard equipment. Interestingly, the TT does without a central display screen or touchscreen, instead displaying infotainment functions in the digital gauge cluster in front of the driver. Most of these functions are controlled by buttons on the steering wheel.

Audi"s TT and TTS are not available with forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, or drowsy-driver monitoring. These features are standard or optional on many of the TT"s closest competitors.

For more information about the TT"s crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:Standard front and rear parking sensors

Audi"s warranty coverage is equal to the protection offered by rival luxury brands such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz.Limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles

Ingolstadt/Las Vegas, January 7, 2014 – Puristc, sporty and fully focused on the driver – for the new TT, Audi is significantly advancing its interior design. At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas held from January 6 through 10, 2014 the brand with the four rings will, for the first time, be presenting the compact sports car"s new interior, which will be launched on the market in the course of the year.

As Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Technical Development says, "The first Audi TT was the design icon per se, the second generation was even sportier, right through to the TT RS plus with its five-cylinder TFSI and 360 hp. And with the new Audi TT, the driver will be able to experience the technology to an even greater extent – just as would be expected from a genuine sports car. And it comes with a new generation of electronics and connectivity features."

For this reason, the Audi virtual cockpit is the focus of attention for the first time in one of the brand"s production models. The fully digital instrument cluster displays all the information directly in front of the driver, meaning that there is no need for a central MMI monitor. This solution gave the designers the freedom to slim down the instrument panel architecture such that it visually conveys the Audi lightweight construction principle.

With its clear lines and innovative operation, the interior of the next TT generation has been redesigned from the ground up. From above, the instrument panel resembles an airplane wing; set low and with a turbine look about them, the round air nozzles, a classic TT feature, are reminiscent of jet engines. The controls for the air conditioning are also housed in the vents – the adjustment functions for seat heating, and for the temperature, direction and strength of the flow of air are located in their axes, with small displays indicating the chosen setting. Located beneath the central air nozzles, the switches for the hazard warning light and the secondary functions are centrally positioned and easily accessible.

With its brilliant graphics with a 3D impression and highly-detailed effects, the Audi virtual cockpit with its 12.3-inch TFT monitor sets new standards. Drivers can switch between two display modes. In the classic view, the speedometer and rev counter are in the foreground, while in "infotainment" mode, the virtual instruments are smaller. The space that is then created offers ample display space for functions such as the navigation map.

All elements of the new Audi TT operating concept are focused on the driver. The compact sports car"s new multifunction steering wheel features a flat-bottomed rim, with aluminum-look clips framing its spokes. The buttons and controls on the spokes allow you to control almost all functions, including the ultra-modern infotainment system. The menu is structured to reflect that of a smartphone and includes a full-text search function (MMI search). All the main functions are just a few clicks away – the entire operation superbly conveys a new kind of "joy of use". The MMI terminal on the center tunnel console, the second control unit alongside the steering wheel, has also been exhaustively redeveloped. Thanks to the MMI touch, the driver can scroll and zoom in lists and on maps. And accessing other options has been simplified; in future this will be possible using just two rather than four buttons in the area surrounding the rotary pushbutton.

The innovations in the Audi TT interior include the S sport seats with their significantly curved side bolsters, the integrated headrests and the low seating position typical of a sports car. The slender character of the seats is emphasized by bezels on the flanks of the backrest and a cover on the back; the backrest is adjusted using a loop. The side bolsters of the S sport seats can be adjusted pneumatically.

With its clear, sharp lines, the interior as a whole perfectly expresses the new Audi TT"s sporty nature. The center tunnel console, that supports the lower leg when driving fast through a bend, and the door panels boast flowing mutually-reinforcing contours. All the details highlight Audi"s attention to quality – from the design of the gear knob and the precise functioning of the rotary pushbutton to the Audi virtual cockpit.

Audi Malaysia officially launched the new Audi TT in the heart of Kuala Lumpur today. The third-generation coupe makes its local debut in a sole 2.0 TFSI variant, priced at RM284,900 on-the-road with GST, without insurance. Audi Malaysia? Yes, Audi AG is now in Malaysia, taking over the wheel from DRB-Hicom subsidiary Euromobil, which will remain as a four rings dealer. More on this later.

The third-generation Audi TT made its debut at last year’s Geneva show, 16 years after the iconic Schreyer-penned Typ 8N shocked the car world. The Mk2 was first seen in 2006, and is a pretty common sight in Malaysia thanks to grey importers.

Measuring 4,180 mm long, the new TT coupe (besides the Roadster, Audi has plans to expand the TT range to include Sportback and possibly “SUV” models) is almost the same length as its predecessor (longer by just 2 mm), but the wheelbase has grown by 37 mm to 2,505 mm, which translates to shorter overhangs. The coupe also a little narrower at 1,837 mm but is no taller than before at 1,353 mm.

Immediately recognisable as a TT, the shape of the latest one is an evolution of the Mk2, but with Audi’s new family face. The hexagonal grille is broader and flatter than before, and sharp contours from its top corners run in a V across the hood, which bears the four Audi rings – no longer inside the grille. The sharp headlamps house xenons and distinctive LED DRLs, and the wheels are 18-inch items with 245/40 rubber.

At the back, a spoiler extends from the trunk lid to improve both air resistance and downforce at 120 km/h, with a very narrow third brake light strip positioned under the edge of it. The LED graphics of the tail lamps mirror their front counterparts, while two large round exhaust pipes are reminiscent of the original TT.

The two doors open to a minimalist dashboard with the TT’s trademark circular air vents (Mk1 started the trend). The sleek look was made possible by the deletion of the central MMI screen, which is now combined with the instrument cluster to form the Audi virtual cockpit, an impressive 12.3-inch TFT LCD panel with navigation and 3D maps. Further removing clutter are the air con controls, which reside within the turbine-style air vents. Very clean, very cool.

By the way, the car gets MMI radio with MMI Touch as standard, and MMI navigation is available as an option. Elsewhere, the standard Alcantara/leather sports seats in the new TT have integrated head restraints and are positioned lower than in the old car. They are also over five kgs lighter. S line customers get a two-tone interior with contrasting stitching.

The Mk3 TT, which sits on the VW Group’s versatile MQB platform (also underpins the Mk7 Golf and Audi A3 in Malaysia), is around 50 kg lighter than the car it replaces, weighing in at just 1,335 kg for the 2.0 TFSI. The side sills and roof frame are made of extruded aluminum profiles integrated into the structure using cast aluminium nodes. Also in the aluminium are the side sections, roof, hood, doors and trunk lid.

That’s not much weight for the 2.0 TFSI engine’s 230 hp and 370 Nm (from 1,600 to 4,300 rpm) to pull. Paired to a six-speed S tronic dual-clutch gearbox with steering paddles, the FWD coupe does the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 5.9 seconds before hitting 250 km/h.

On the back of this, fuel consumption of 6.3 litres per 100 km is very good indeed. There’s start-stop, and in the “efficiency” mode of Audi drive select, the S tronic goes into freewheel when your foot is off the gas pedal. Speaking of Audi drive select, it also controls the optional Audi magnetic ride adaptive damper control system, which lets one choose between Comfort, Auto and Dynamic settings.

The new Audi TT is priced at RM284,900 on-the-road with GST, without insurance. The warranty is four years or 120,000 km, whichever comes first. Plenty of options for you to tick (find out what they are as well as the list of 10 available colours for the car at Carbase.my), so max price is entirely up to you, Mr. Daredevil.

The model that has been launched in India is the base version in terms of power output. It uses the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 227bhp and 370Nm of torque. The TT does not have a whole lot of power for a sports car, but the way it is delivered through the Quattro all-wheel drive system, it seems sufficient.

The TT coupe is quick off the line getting to 100kmph in less than six seconds (5.8 seconds to be precise) on the way to the electronically limited top-speed of 250kmph. The six-speed dual-clutch S-Tronic gearbox works pretty well most of the time and the new Quattro system is more intelligent than before. It changes the torque bias from front to rear depending upon the driving mode, eliminating the understeer and making it more nimble. While the performance seems adequate to put a big smile on your face, I would have preferred some more grunt considering the sports car tag. Its rivals like the BMW Z4 and the Porsche Cayman offer a bit more.

Handling is brilliant, the TT tackles the corners with ease. The steering is precise and requires just two turns lock-to-lock, quick direction changes are easy and the grip levels with the 245 / 40 R18 Bridgestone Potenza tyres is pretty solid. The braking is phenomenal as well, there is initial bite, progression and plenty of stopping power with proper feedback. The handling prowess makes up for the limited power to a large extent and what makes the whole deal more sensible is the practicality. The ground clearance is sufficient, the TT goes over all sorts of speed humps (even the extra large ones that I have in Dombivli), till the time you are careful. Also the ride quality may be firm, but still largely tolerable and way better than what we expect from such cars.

The performance of the TT is of sports car sorts without any of their drawbacks. Agreed Audi could have brought the more powerful version, but even this will be a lot of fun on the race tracks and on the twisty roads and yet offer fuss-free drive rest of the time.

The Audi TT Coupe has now been on sale for more than 20 years. It’s been a great success for Audi, thanks to its sporty looks and handling, plus its everyday usability. This isn"t a hardcore sports car or one that forces you to leave all your luggage behind. That helps it stand out against rivals like the Alpine A110 and Porsche 718 Cayman, both of which are somewhat more focused. The Ford Mustang is larger and more expensive to run, while the Toyota GR 86 is great fun but doesn"t feel as upmarket as the Audi.

The Audi TT’s ability to blend top level sports-car driving dynamics together with an array of daily usability gives it a large amount of appeal across a broad spectrum of buyers. Part of this appeal is a reasonable amount of interior and boot space, alongside a chassis that is easy to live with for town driving or long-distance motorway cruising.

The Audi TT was facelifted in early 2019 with tweaked styling, and a further revision in 2022 brought a simplified engine range and changes to the standard equipment. The engine range now consists of two turbocharged petrols, while the diesel model was discontinued in 2018. There’s a front-wheel-drive 195bhp 2.0-litre 40 TFSI model with a seven-speed automatic gearbox that sprints from 0-62mph in 6.6 seconds. The more powerful 242bhp 2.0-litre 45 TFSI comes with Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system, which cuts the 0-62mph time to 5.1 seconds.

The third variation wears the TTS badge. This model uses a 316bhp version of the 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engine, together with quattro all-wheel drive, to give truly Porsche-rivalling performance figures – 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds is possible with help from the sharp S tronic automatic gearbox.

The interior of the all-new Audi TT has been revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, premiering a heavily driver-focused cabin design for the third-generation sports car.

Audi says the new TT – set to launch in the coming months and a chance to land in Australia before the end of 2014 – will be the first model to take the brand’s ‘virtual cockpit’ layout from concept to production.

Most striking is the absence of a central screen, which Audi says is replaced entirely by the new TT’s fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster. The high-resolution TFT monitor allows drivers to switch between two display modes: ‘classic’ mode, with the speedometer and tachometer in the foreground; and ‘infotainment’ mode, with the virtual instruments downsized and sent to the sides to create space for other functions, such as the navigation map.

Audi says doing away with the central monitor gave its designers the freedom to slim down the dashboard and instrument panel architecture, visually emphasising the car maker’s lightweight construction principle.

The dash panel resembles an airplane wing, and fittingly the TT’s signature circular air vents have a turbine look reminiscent of jet engines. Digital climate controls are housed in the vents, while the adjustment functions for temperature, direction and strength of air flow, and for seat heating, are located in their axes.

The Audi TT’s flat-bottomed steering wheel features buttons and controls on its spokes allowing operation of almost all functions, including the infotainment system.

Audi claims to have “exhaustively redeveloped” the centre console’s rotary ‘MMI touch’ dial, enhancing the scope of its functionality and simplifying its operation.

Also visible in the lead image is the new Audi TT’s S sport seats with diamond-pattern stitched leather upholstery. Audi says the seats’ side bolsters can be adjusted pneumatically.

Sharing its new ‘MQB’ platform with the A3 and Volkswagen Golf, the third-generation TT will be lighter and stiffer than the outgoing model and ride on a longer wheelbase.

The 2017 Audi TT RS has been revealed at the 2016 Beijing auto show in coupe and convertible body styles. Lighter than the car it replaces, the range-topping TT RS now comes with more power and is available with adjustable magnetorheological dampers for maximum performance.

Audi has stuffed a new 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine under the hood of the 2017 TT RS, it produces a healthy 394 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. The new mill is 17-percent more powerful and is lighter than its predecessor thanks to a turbo capable of 19.6 psi of boost. An aluminum crankcase and a hollow crankshaft shave off 39.7 pounds and 2.2 pounds respectively. The seven-speed twin-clutch automatic transmission also has a new prop shaft that saves another 4.4 pounds compared to the old TT RS. In total, the TT RS weighs 22 pounds less than the car it replaces with the coupe hitting the scales at 3,174 pounds and the roadster at 3,373 pounds.

Compared to the standard TT, the TT RS" suspension is lower by 0.3 inches. Steering tuning is also unique to the TT RS while the rear suspension features a unique four-link layout for improved response. Opting for RS suspension adds magnetic shocks, which also allows the driver to change the damping electronically via the Audi Drive Select system. Audi"s Quattro all-wheel drive system comes standard in the TT RS and uses dynamic software to calculate the torque sent to the rear wheels continuously. During high-speed cornering, the all-wheel drive system"s electro-hydraulic multi-plate clutch can partially send torque to the rear wheels.

Inside the cabin, the 2017 Audi TT RS comes with lightweight RS sport seats with integrated head restraints, and more aggressive side bolsters that can be optioned with pneumatic adjustment. Alcantara upholstery with diamond patterns and an embossed RS log on the backrests is standard while Nappa leather is available in four color combinations: black/gray, black/red, Murillo Brown/gray, and Palomino Brown/gray. Aluminum interior inlays come standard while carbon fiber is an optional extra. There"s also an RS design package that adds red and gray accents in the air vents and seat belts, and floor mats with the RS logo.

Audi"s slick Virtual Cockpit is available in the 2017 TT RS and comes with a 12.3-inch TFT display that displays everything from what song is playing to navigation and trip information. One unique feature in the TT RS is a rev counter with an integrated speed display, which can be accessed on the RS screen. In manual mode, a shift light tells you when you need to upshift. The MMI infotainment system comes as standard and can be upgraded with 4G LTE connectivity and wireless charging for Qi-compatible mobile phones. Smartphone apps can also be integrated in the MMI system via the Audi Smartphone Interface, which will project them on the Virtual Cockpit.

LED headlights come standard on all variants of the TT RS while Matrix OLED headlights will be available in global markets except the U.S. Optional extras include a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium audio system. The Audi TT RS will go on sale in Europe first in the fall of 2016 and will be followed by the rest of the world.

Introduced at this year"s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Audi"s "virtual cockpit" features a new 12.3 inch TFT-LCDthat integrates the driver"s telemetry and the car"s info-tainment system into a single unit.

In driving mode, the new display takes the form of a traditional, yet sporty, instrument cluster with the driver"s speedo and tach displayed prominently.

Finally, in media mode, the gauges are again pushed to the periphery of the screen while this time, it is the car"s multimedia options that take up the majority of the display.

Some believe that Audi may have another trick up its sleeves. The guys at Engadget speculated that Audi"s omission of the center console may signal their intention to offer the TT with an in-car tablet.

The brushed aluminum-wrapped Audi Smart Display will be powered by an NVIDIA Tegra 4 chipset, and run Google"s Android operating system. The company has not yet revealed the cost of this option.

Since its debut in 1998, the TT has had a love-hate relationship with its status as a trendy fashion accessory. While its popularity with a certain segment of the population drove early demand for the car, the company has struggled to change the public"s perception to that of a serious sports car.

In order to shake the TT"s status as a late "90s fashion icon, Audi had design chief Walter de Silva create a second-generation model featuring a more modern and aggressive aesthetic.

De Silva, the man most famous for designing Audi"s groundbreaking R8 supercar, gave the 2007 Mark II TT sporty, flared wheel-arches and a large, menacing grill, tied together by a higher more athletic beltline.

With the introduction of the virtual cockpit, Audi has transferred this sporting theme to the car"s interior. For the upcoming, third generation TT, Audi reinforces the car"s sporting pretensions with an integrated driver-centric display panel.

It is still unclear which changes Audi plan to make to the display interface between now and production. But we"re looking forward to taking the new model out for a spin as soon as it"s off the line.

The manual, front-drive version takes six seconds flat and the new TTS 4.7 seconds – faster than a Porsche Cayman S. MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension is fitted, with magnetic adaptive dampers standard on the TTS and an option on all other cars.

Also fitted is new progressive electro-mechanical steering – this aims to give a more agile feel, and allows Audi to fit self-parking and active lane assist. A new stability control system brakes the inside wheel in corners, has a sport mode that offers a limited amount of wheel slip and can be switched off totally.

Despite the advances under the skin, the TT has a familiar design – albeit modernised by a large, angular grille and hi-tech lights (xenons as standard; LEDs optional). Viewed from every angle, the TT retains the classic coupe shape but features styling cues borrowed from the R8 supercar and Allroad Shooting Brake concept.

A fabric-roof Audi TT Roadster will follow a few months after the coupe debuts, while an Audi TT-RS with a 355bhp 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine will top the range. Following the blueprint of the TT ultra quattro concept shown earlier this year, a more focused, featherweight TT with a stripped-out cabin and an exotic material mix is also possible.

Alongside the new TT coupe on the Geneva show stand Audi brought along the TT quattro sport concept – a lightweight, stripped-out coupe that points towards a customer racing car, but also a homologation production car, which could carry the Clubsport name.

The engine, which weighs only 150kg, was commissioned personally by Audi’s new head of development, Dr Ulrich Hackenberg when he started his role last summer. “When I came to Audi I asked for more power from the 2.0 TFSI, after a while we reached 400hp, but I said it wasn’t enough, so eventually we reached 420hp and I’m satisfied,” he told us.

On the inside the rear seats have been stripped out and replaced with a roll cage and space for two helmets, while bucket seats and racing harnesses are fitted in the front.

“This an engine that we could use for racing activities. Nothing extreme like GT3, but series like the TT cup and club racing,” Hackenberg explained. “It would need to be homologated so we could focus on a road version, too."

Kuala Lumpur: Audi TT Malaysia has started off its registration for Audi TT third generation, which clearly indicates an Audi TT launch to happen very soon. If you are interested in taking home a “Daredevil”, as Audi proudly calls it, head to the form available on Audi official website and sign in your details.

The much applauded coupe made its first appearance on a global level at the Geneva Motor Show while its Roadster open top variant made its debut on September 2014. Audi is even teasing its set of audience with a more practical 5-door TT variant for the economical aspect with a TT Sportback concept and even a crossover-stylised variant billed as TT Offroad Concept.

Made based on MQB platform of VAG, Audi TT facelift is 2mm longer than the previous generation, however with a further increase of wheelbase to 37mm to 2505mm the practicality is increased. Aerodynamics have been increased further by reducing the width to 1837mm but the height remains same as 1353mm.

The most impressive aspect of the interior of Audi TT is the virtual cockpit with a 12.3-inch TFT LCD display which clearly replaces the traditional instrument panel. This clearly breaks the need of a MMI screen on the centre and thus allows the dashboard to become more streamlined. Like its precursor, Audi TT brings along an aluminium/steel hybrid space frame construction and this is optimised a bit more to shed off unwanted kerb weight which hampers the performance aspect. Talking about the suspension, the provided suspension is McPherson strut on the front and Multi Link suspension on the rear.

The base variant, 1.8-litre TFSI engine delivers a maximum power of 180 bhp alongside 250 Nm torque which when clubbed to a 6-speed S tronic double clutch gearbox can breach 100 kmph mark in just 7 seconds. The 2.0-litre TFSI can deliver figures of 230 hp and 370 Nm while TTS 2.0-litre TFSI breaks through really tremendous performance delivering 310 hp power alongside 380 Nm torque.
