TV repair costs between $60 and $350 with most spending $207 on average for LCD, LED, plasma, and 4K TVs; costs are higher if repairing older DLP, projection, and HD TVs. TV problems like display issues, powering-on problems, or sound issues can be fixed. Pickup and delivery fees may apply.

For example, the price of a new Samsung 40-inch LED TV is about $400, yet the cost of a replacement display panel for this model is about $380. This price is only for the replacement part and does not cover diagnostic costs, labor costs, or travel or shipping fees.

Unless you are trying to fix a TV from the ’80s or earlier, cracked TV screen repair is not feasible; the entire display panel must be replaced instead. The cost of a replacement TV display panel is more than the cost of buying a new TV, and that’s before labor and other service costs.

TV manufacturers do keep replacement TV screen panels on hand to support products under warranty in case the screen malfunctions, due to manufacturer defect.

If you still want to replace a damaged or malfunctioning TV screen, your best option is to find a used replacement panel or a broken TV of the same model on which the screen is still functional. You might find one on eBay, and you can hire a technician to change out the panel.

The cost of a used replacement TV panel ranges from $50 to $350 or more, excluding shipping, depending on the brand and size. Note that the chances of finding exactly the part you need in excellent condition are slim, and the cost excludes the cost of installation by a repair shop.

Whether your TV is LCD, LED, plasma screen, or 4K (Ultra HD), the cost to fix common problems ranges from $60 to $350, depending on the repair type and the brand of TV being repaired.

If an older model LCD TV or projection TV powers on and has sound but no picture, this may be due to lamp burnout, which is both common and expected. In this case, replacing the bulb will fix the problem. An experienced technician should be able to replace the bulb quickly and easily.

Flat screen replacement glass is not available. The only option for flat-screen TV glass repair is to try optical glass glue, which costs $1.70 for a 5-ml. tube. This may be an option for TV glass repair if the crack is only a few inches or less. TV panels are built as one unit at the factory, with the glass adhered to the display panel.

LCD flat-panel repair is not considered cost-effective. If the glass is cracked or the display is physically damaged, it is cheaper to replace the entire TV than to repair or replace the display panel.

The cost of flat-screen TV repair ranges from $42 to $359. You cannot fix a broken screen, but the price of a new flat-panel TV starts from around $249 for a 1080-mp (non-4K) LED TV from LG to as much as $14,999 for an 85-inch 8K LED TV from Samsung. A TV referred to as a “flat TV” or “flat-screen” TV might be any of the following:

LCD TV repair typically costs $60 to $85 for diagnostics testing, and $200 to $300 to perform repairs. LCD TVs use backlighting, which may fail. Newer LCD TVs use LED strips for backlighting. Older ones might use CCFL. If CCFL backlighting fails, a technician can replace it with LED backlighting.

An LED TV is just an LCD TV that uses LED backlighting, which all newer models do (older models use CCFL backlighting). The cost to replace one LED backlighting strip ranges from $100 to $122, including parts and labor.

The cost of mounting a TV ranges from $149 to $199, with most people paying around $174 for the labor. The mounting hardware costs between $20 and $500 depending on the brand of mounting hardware and the size of your TV.

Circuit breaker - Check the circuit breaker for the power outlet that the TV plugs into. You can check the breakers by opening the door to your breaker panel and looking for circuit breakers that are in the OFF position.

Lamp burnout -In a projection TV or older LCD TV, no picture may be caused by lamp burnout. In this case, a technician can replace the bulb quickly and easily.

In most cases, a flat-screen TV can be fixed. The exception is a physically damaged display panel or screen. Most other issues including failing speakers, backlights, or power supply. Burned out fuses and damaged input ports can also be repaired.

I’m hearing from some industry friends that LCD display panel prices are rising – which on the surface likely seems incongruous, given the economic slowdown and widespread indications that a lot of 2020 and 2021 display projects went on hold because of COVID-19.

On the other hand, people are watching a lot more TV, and I saw a guy at Costco the other day with two big-ass LCD TVs on his trolley. And a whole bunch of desktop monitors were in demand in 2020 to facilitate Work From Home. So demand for LCD displays is up outside of commercial purposes.

Continuing strong demand and concerns about a glass shortage resulting from NEG’s power outage have led to a continuing increase in LCD TV panel prices in Q1. Announcements by the Korean panel makers that they will maintain production of LCDs and delay their planned shutdown of LCD lines has not prevented prices from continuing to rise.

Panel prices increased more than 20% for selected TV sizes in Q3 2020 compared to Q2, and by 27% in Q4 2020 compared to Q3, and we now expect that average LCD TV panel prices in Q1 2021 will increase by another 9%.

Prices increased in Q4 for all sizes of TV panels, with massive % increases in sizes from 32” to 55” ranging from 28% to 38%. Prices for 65” and 75” increased at a slower rate, by 19% and 8% respectively, as capacity has continued to increase on those sizes with Gen 10.5 expansions.

Prices for every size of TV panel will increase in Q1 at a slower rate, ranging from 4% for 75” to 13% for 43”. Although we continue to expect that the long-term downward trend will resume in the second quarter of 2021, we no longer expect that panel prices will come close to the all-time lows seen earlier this year. The situation remains dynamic, and the pandemic may continue to affect both supply and demand.

TV panel prices however, continued to rise at an ‘unprecedented’ rate again, far ahead of our expectations, and panel producers do not seem to be hesitant about continuing to push prices further.

Given that TV set demand continues to outstrip production capacity, panel producers are already expecting to raise prices again in 1Q, typically a sequentially weaker quarter.  There is a breaking point at which TV set brands will forego requested panel price increases in order to preserve what is left of margins, and with the increasing cost of TV set panel inventory, we expect TV set producers to become unprofitable relatively quickly.

Does that mean they will stop buying and face losing market share to those that are willing to pay higher prices to see unit volume growth? Eventually, but heading into the holidays it doesn’t seem likely this year, so we expect TV panel prices to rise again in December.

That’s what we found in our analysis of more than three years of Consumer Reports’ TV ratings. Our crack team of statisticians looked at prices and CR’s test results from March 1, 2019, through March 1, 2022, for a number of leading TV brands sold in the U.S. The results are shown in the charts below, broken out by screen size, which is the first factor people usually consider when shopping for a television.

As you can see, TVs from LG, Samsung, and Sony earned top scores in our testing across just about every size range. And generally, sets from these companies cost more than their competitors’ TVs.

Prices and average brand scores tend to drop off in step with each other, according to our analysis. One major change this year is that some secondary brands, including Element, Philips, and Westinghouse, no longer appearin our list. Sharp is no longer in our listing; it stopped selling TVs in the U.S. for several years but began selling them again in 2022. RCA is represented in just two screen sizes, where it has the lowest Overall Score, and in one instance the lowest price by a large margin.

Although we’ve tested a few TVs from Onn, Walmart’s house brand, we didn’t test enough sets in any one screen size for it to appear. We hope to include it in next year’s evaluation.

Also, companies evolve over time. Our testing shows that certain models from somewhat newer brands, such as Hisense and TCL, have been improving in quality. But typically, we see that better performance only in the upper-tier models from these brands; often models in their entry-level series earn significantly lower scores.

Last, you don’t always need to settle for poor performance just because you’re on a budget. In some size categories, there aren’t big price differences between the highest- and lowest-performing brands.

The average price figures we show are a bit higher than the average for all big TVs on the market. That’s both because the largest sets carry a premium and because CR tends to purchase a lot of expensive, high-end sets. That allows us to test the latest features, such as Mini LED backlights in LCD/LED TVs, which can help boost contrast and reduce halos, and high dynamic range (HDR), which can produce brighter, more vibrant images.

TCL, Vizio, and Hisense are additional brands to consider, especially if you’re on a budget. With TCL and Hisense, higher-end sets (the 6- and 8-series TVs from TCL, and 8-series sets from Hisense) have done very well in our tests, offering a lot of bang for the buck in terms of both picture quality and high dynamic range (HDR) experience. TCL’s higher average price is due to its top-tier sets having newer technologies (Mini LED, 8K resolution), plus a push into very large screen sizes. The company also offers many low-priced sets that haven’t done as well, lowering the brand’s Overall Score. Vizio sets have done well for overall picture quality across the board, though they generally fall behind a bit when it comes to HDR.

This has become a popular screen size for people looking for a large TV. And you’ll see that LG, Samsung, and Sony top the list in average Overall Score and average price here, as well. One reason for the fine showing by both LG and Sony is they offer OLED TVs that have consistently been at the top of our ratings. Samsung’s top QLED (and Neo QLED) TVs have also done very well in our ratings, and the best of those sets now rival OLED TVs in performance. All these sets tend to be pricy.

In this size category, we again see much greater differences in pricing between the least and most expensive sets from major brands than from smaller players. For example, there’s a $600 difference between the cheapest ($400) and priciest ($1,000) 65-inch Hisense TVs in our current ratings. With Samsung and Sony, that difference is a whopping $2,400. One reason for Samsung’s large spread is the debut of itsfirst QD OLED TV ($3,000), which is now in our ratings (though it arrived too late this year for our statistical analysis). Sony TVs tend to be expensive in part because the company offers several OLED TVs, which tend to cost more, and because it stopped making lower-end LED/LCD sets. (See the best 65-inch TVs under $1,000.)

As in the 70-inch size category, Hisense, TCL, and Vizio appear to be good options for those on tighter budgets. Their better-performing sets tend to be pricier but still less expensive than comparable TVs from LG, Samsung, and Sony. Hisense has the best balance of price and performance of the group. But given the wide differences in performance and price between the best- and worst-performing models within these brands, you should look at specific models to determine the best value.

If you’re shopping for a 55- to 60-inch set, you’ll see a particularly wide range of prices and brands. That’s because some TVs this size are relatively bare-bones when it comes to features, while others come loaded with lots of features. These can include 120Hz refresh rates, full-array LED backlights with local dimming, more effective HDR performance, and special gaming features, such as low-latency modes and variable refresh rates.

Average prices go from a low of $342 (for Toshiba, which makes Fire TV Edition sets sold at Amazon and Best Buy) to a high of $1,034 (Sony’s average). As we note above, Sony focuses on higher-priced sets, and both Sony and LG’s average prices are pulled up by their OLED sets—these TVs can look great, but they tend to cost more than all but the very best LED/LCD models.

Two years ago, Vizio began offering OLED TVs, but that hasn’t yet had a big impact on its average price, because the majority of its sales are still less expensive LED/LCD TVs.

For those shopping for a TV in this size range, CR’s analysis shows that Samsung, Sony, and LG again tend to have the highest-performing TVs—along with the most expensive ones.

In fact, the price range is fairly narrow in this size category once you get past those top three brands. Hisense and TCL emerge as good possible options for those on the tightest TV budgets because their average price is actually lower than a few brands’, such as Vizio and Toshiba, that have lower average scores.

There’s also a pretty big spread in both price and performance in this screen size, with prices ranging from $226 (Hisense) to more than $568 (Sony). One reason is that in this size category, you’ll find a mix of both 4K and more basic HD sets.

You may notice that Samsung is missing from this size category; there weren’t enough tested models in our analysis this year for it to be included. It’s the only brand in our current ratings that offers 32-inch 4K TVs with HDR, but those sets are more expensive, and consumers don’t seem to want to pay for the higher resolution in sets this small. Samsung does offer a number of less expensive HD sets, which are in our ratings. Shoppers seem to buying based on price rather than brand.

In addition to TV performance, there are a few more things to consider when choosing among brands. One is how easy it is to get the TV repaired in a timely manner. Major brands typically invest in parts and service networks, so you’re more likely to find an authorized repair center nearby.

Just days into the new year, we already have a good idea of what TV shoppers can expect in 2023. It starts with more LCD sets that use Mini LEDs in their backlights; some developments to boost brightness in OLED TVs, which traditionally have topped our TV ratings; and more TV brands offering sets with screens 85 inches and even larger.

This year, both Samsung and LG (which is sticking with its WOLED tech) say they’ve found new ways to make their OLED TVs brighter, pushing them to levels we’ve typically only seen from the brightest LCD/LED TVs.

In LCD/LED TVs, most of the new sets being built with Mini LEDs are mid-tier or flagship models. (One exception is Hisense; see below.) With this technology, companies cram thousands of tiny LEDs into the backlights behind their LCD panels, then divide the LEDs into zones that can be dimmed or illuminated individually. Because each zone is so small, they can be controlled very precisely to help improve brightness, contrast, and black levels, and help reduce the halos you often see on LCD TVs when a bright image appears against a dark background.

TV screen sizes continue to grow, with more brands now offering 85-inch sets as part of their mainstream 2023 TV lineups at more affordable prices than in the past. A few TV brands will have sets this year that bump up against that almost mythical 100-inch TV screen size.

As in years past, TV brands are providing few details on pricing and availability at CES. That information is typically released in early spring, closer to when new sets start arriving on retailers’ shelves.

The new entry-level ULED series will be the U6K sets, offered in screen sizes ranging from 50 to 85 inches. Hisense says the 50-inch set will be priced under $500 and will support both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ (those are bothHDR standards), as well as Dolby Atmos audio. The TVs will have more local dimming zones than last year’s models and up to 600 nits of peak brightness, also an improvement.

Stepping up to the U7K series sets, which the company targets toward gamers, will get you higher peak brightness—up to 1,000 nits—and more than 500 local dimming zones. Other features include 144Hz variable refresh rates, an auto low-latency mode, and a special Gaming Bar game-status feature that was available only on the U8H models last year. The sets will be offered in 55- to 85-inch screen sizes.

Hisense will also offer a range of even lower-priced non-ULED sets in its A65K series, which will come in screen sizes from 43 to 75 inches. All but the least expensive sets come with ATSC 3.0 tuners for receiving Next-Gen TV over-the-air signals, which will be rolling out across the U.S. in the next few years.

The new “ultimate” LCD/LED TV, ULED X, comes with some major claims in both brightness—up to 2,500 nits—and state-of-the-art Mini LED technology, with over 20,000 Mini LED lights and more than 5,000 local dimming zones. It has a new AI processor, along with a 16-bit “light control” algorithm, which is supposed to provide more precise control over local dimming zones. The set includes a newly developed “CineStage X” 4.1.2-channel Dolby Atmos audio system. The first set will be available only in an 85-inch screen size; price and availability weren’t disclosed.

LG will manage a now-familiar balancing act, touting improved performance in its LCD lineup while continuing to promote its OLED TVs as the pinnacle of TV performance. But at CES it was clear that OLED TVs are occupying the bulk of the company’s TV attention, with some interesting new designs.

Like last year, the company’s flagship TVs will be pricey Z-series (Z3) 8K OLED sets, offered in 77- and 88-inch screen sizes. As in the past, the most advanced 4K OLED tech will go into the company’s design-focused Gallery, or G-series, sets. However, LG’s C3 series lineup, which has typically offered the best bang for the buck of any LG OLED TVs, also gets many improvements.

Once again, both the G3 and C2 sets get the high-performing Evo OLED panels and the company’s most advanced AI processors, which help up-convert lower-resolution content. These panels use a new algorithm and light-control architecture to boost brightness by up to 70 percent in the G3 sets, which can hit 1,800 nits, the company says. The G3 sets have an additional brightness booster feature the C3 sets lack. Last year, both sets were among the best TVs we tested.

LG didn’t have a lot to say about its LCD/LED TV lineup, which we assume will be revealed closer to launch, but this year only the top-tier QNED 85-series models, in 55- to 86-inch screen sizes, get Mini LED backlights. (The QNED80- and QNED75-series sets will have more conventional local dimming.)

Most LG customers will get one of these more conventional TVs, but the two new TV types mentioned earlier were really eye-catching at the show. The flexible 42-inch OLED TV, called OLED Flex, can be bent into a curve using the remote for immersive gaming or kept flat for TVs and movies. It has 20 different levels of curvature. This set is actually available now, for about $2,500, obviously quite expensive for a TV this size.

In all, there will be 11 Roku TV models in a pair of series: Roku Select and Roku Plus. Screen sizes will range from 24 to 75 inches. Prices go from $119 up to $999, according to the company.

Samsung brought big-news firepower to CES last year with the industry’s first QD OLED TV, which performed very well in CR’s ratings. In 2023, Samsung’s TV lineup is about iterative improvements to make those sets even better. This year Samsung will again have a very diverse array of TV products, including a new, smaller Micro LED “Wall TV,” new flagship 8K and 4K Neo QLED TVs that use Mini LED backlights, and a new 77-inch QD OLED TV screen size.

Finally, Samsung has been promoting MicroLED display tech for several years now. It’s basically the LED equivalent of an OLED TV, where every tiny LED pixel generates its own light, with no need for a separate backlight. MicroLED TVs have tended to be huge (starting at 110 inches), expensive, and somewhat limited in resolution at smaller sizes.

Sharp’s new Mini LED sets, offered in 65,- 70-, and 75-inch screen sizes, will be offered under the Sharp Aquos XLED moniker. The sets, like QLED TVs from companies such as Samsung and TCL, also use quantum dots for an extended range of colors. The company says that the TVs will have more than 2,000 dimmable zones in the backlight, which can help improve contrast and minimize halos around the edges of bright objects when displayed against dark backgrounds.

In addition to the XLED Mini LED sets, Sharp will also have both LCD/LED and OLED TVs that use the Roku smart TV system. So far, no information has been released about the LCD/LED sets other than that they’ll be offered in 50-, 55-, 65-, and 75-inch screen sizes.

Sharp also says it will have 4K OLED TVs in 55- and 65-inch screen sizes this year, using Roku’s new OLED TV reference design, which is being offered to all Roku TV partners. In addition to including the Roku smart TV system, these sets will include gaming features such as support for 4K 120Hz variable refresh rates and auto low-latency game modes.

Last year Sony’s biggest TV news was a new flagship A95K QD-OLED TV, which turned out to be one of the best TVs we tested in 2022. We’ll probably have to wait another month to hear details about Sony’s 2023 TV lineup. But we expect the company to offer an updated version of that set, perhaps in a new 77-inch screen size, as well as newer versions of its A90K and A80K regular OLED TV series.

We also expect Sony to update its Cognitive Processor, which is found in the company’s higher-end models. It attempts to determine how people perceive images, adjusts the picture to make it look more natural and realistic by dividing the screen into numerous zones, then enhances the specific areas where it believes a typical viewer will be focusing their attention, such as faces. The processing also matches audio to what’s on the screen and upconverts it to 3D surround sound.

As for Sony’s LCD/LED TV Lineup, last year the two top series—the Z9K and X95K—got Mini LED backlights plus Backlight Master Drive technology Sony claims can offer more control over the Mini LEDs than conventional methods. We’ll have to wait to see if Sony rolls out Mini LED backlights in more models in 2023.

Like Hisense, TCL has been an up-and-coming brand in the U.S. for the past few years, and several of its 6-series TVs have done very well in our ratings, especially for their price. In 2023 the company is rejiggering its TV lineup, with a new flagship series bearing the QM8 moniker. Like last year’s R6-series sets, it will use Mini LED backlights, and you’ll be able to get it only in larger screen sizes, starting at 65 inches and going all the way up to a 98-inch behemoth.

The new Q series will focus on bigger and better QLED models, starting with the Q6 sets, which will be brighter than last year’s entry-level QLED models. Available in screen sizes from 50 to 75 inches, these will be 60Hz sets that feature 120Hz processing (called Game Accelerator 120) for VRR gaming. Stepping up to the Q7 sets gets you higher peak brightness, more local dimming zones than last year’s QLED sets, and a native 120Hz panel, with up to 240Hz Game Accelerator VRR. The sets, which feature IMAX Enhanced certification for the first time, will be available in 55- to 85-inch screen sizes.

More budget-minded consumers can choose from two S-series lines. The S3 sets are 1080p models, while the S4 TVs are entry-level 4K sets that support Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. TCL’s S3 model will be available in 32- to 43-inch screen sizes, while the S4 will be offered in 43- to 85-inch screen sizes.

LCD panel prices have risen for 4 months in a row because of your home gaming? Since this year, the whole LCD panel market has smoked. Whether after the outbreak of the epidemic, LCD panel market prices rose for four months, or the panel giants in Japan and South Korea successively sold production lines, or the Chinese mainland listed companies frequently integrated acquisition, investment, and plant construction, all make the industry full of interesting.

LCD panel prices are already a fact. Since May this year, LCD panel prices have risen for four months in a row, making the whole industry chain dynamic. Why are LCD panels going up in price in a volatile 2020? The key factor lies in the imbalance between supply and demand.

The 43 inches and 55 inches rose more than double digits in August, reaching 13.7% each, and rose another $7 and $13, respectively, to $91 and $149, respectively, in September.

For larger sizes, overseas stocks remained strong, with prices for 65 inches and 75 inches rising $10 on average to $200 and $305 respectively in September.

The price of LCDS for large-size TVs of 70 inches or more hasn’t budged much. In addition, LTPS screens and AMOLED screens used in high-end phones have seen little or no increase in price.

As for October, LCD panel price increases are expected to moderate. The data shows that in October 32 inches or 2 dollars; Gains of 39.5 to 43 inches will shrink to $3;55 inches will fall back below $10; The 65-inch gain will narrow to $5.

During the epidemic, people stayed at home and had no way to go out for entertainment. They relied on TV sets, PCS, and game consoles for entertainment. After the resumption of economic work and production, the market of traditional home appliances picked up rapidly, and LCD production capacity was quickly digested.
