Using a ratio of two parts powder to one part water, create a polishing paste using baking soda or cornstarch. The mixture should be thick and not runny. Use a microfiber cleaning cloth to rub the paste into the cracks.

However there must have been a small particle of something nasty either on the screen itself or on the cloth (I always keep the cloth stored away to prevent this exact issue!) the scratch that is left on the screen is admittedly tiny (~2mm) but it is there, it is bugging me and I would like to get it sorted if possible.

The toothpaste method that is often mentioned is unsuitable for the matte Retina display as others have reported that it left the area around where they applied the toothpaste with a glossy effect as toothpaste is actually very abrasive.

Honestly! I"ve read this in a few places now that due to the composition of petroleum jelly this can actually "fill" the scratches and more or less hide the fact that there is a scratch in the glass. Vaseline Online

The regular dell warranty will not help. Check to see if you have a renters or home owners policy that covers accidental damage to a computer. I followed this write-up to disassemble the screen unit from the car, then disassembled the electronics from the screen (no biggie) plugged the FRESH new screen into the circuit board, replaced the metal protector and connected it back to the plastics, reinstalled it into the car, and voila, totally fresh new screen. Total time. 20 minutes to remove from car and check to make sure it was part number LQ088K9LA02, 2 weeks wait to receive the part from China. Then about 1 hour to remove and replace the screen.
