Well first of all, text panels and LCDs are the same, they are IMyTextPanel blocks and thus share the same features, work the same but merely got different names and models.

You have to take ownership over the block in order to change the settings for it. Once you did that you have to change the display text to either public or private and then change the according text fields to contain whatever text you want inside it.

The "Preserve aspect ratio" checkbox can be used to prevent the image being stretched if it does not fit the screen properly such as when using a wide LCD.

To set the LCD to display a script, choose "Script" from the dropdown. Choosing Script allows the display of information such as weather, artificial horizon for vehicles, Energy and Hydrogen level etc.

After many requests, we have decided to release our internal Replay Tool that we use to create our trailers. It allows you to record the movement and actions of multiple characters in the same world. Keen Software House needs to stay profitable in order to continue development and support of Space Engineers, and to take risks, to invest into experiments that may not pay off in the short term, and to develop innovative concepts.

Sometimes we have to invest in people, teams, or projects, without knowing if they will work out. You need to give them time. And if you want to have a high bar for innovation, expecting novel things, you need to take the risk.

Why are they high-risk? Because they are hard to do, and usually it takes many iterations until we figure out the right way to do it. It usually takes a few iterations to perfect it. This means that doing water can take a few weeks (if we get it right from the start) or a few years (if we need to experiment, iterate, throw away past experiments, look for specialists in this area, etc). Solution: Open %appdata%\SpaceEngineers\SpaceEngineers.cfg in a plain text editor like notepad. Find GraphicsRenderer – it is usually near the top. Change its value to DirectX 11.

You can try Windows 7 and Windows 8 modes to find which works better for you. This is usually a good workaround until there are updates for your drivers and for Windows 10 compatibility.

Cannot create log file: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path ‘C:\Users\YourUserNameHere\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\SpaceEngineers.log’ is denied.

Solution: Some users are reporting this problem after switching to Windows 10. In some cases we have found that the users have copied files from their old operating system to the new one. In other cases it seems to be an issue created by the Windows 10 upgrade. This creates the problem where the old files have different ownership credentials from the new user account on Windows 10. This prevents Space Engineers from accessing them.

Space Engineers is a voxel-based sandbox game, developed and published by Czech independent developer Keen Software House. In 2013, the initial developmental release of the game joined the Steam early access program. During the following years of active development, Space Engineers sold over one million units. In total as of 2019 the game has sold over 3.5 million copiessource code was officially available and maintained by KSH to assist the modding community.Beta and was later officially released on February 28, 2019.

Gameplay of Space Engineers begins with the player selecting or joining a world with specific settings, such as the number of asteroids (an "empty world" can also be picked) and the available starting equipment. When creating or editing a world, several advanced options are available to change how the player will interact with the world, and how the worlds will appear. This includes changing the speed with which several tools and machines will work, the size of the player"s inventory, and whether procedural generation will be used (effectively making the world infinite). Upon confirming the world settings, a loading screen appears while the world is generated. This screen consists of a random in-game screenshot as a backdrop, the game"s logo, an animated loading icon, and a randomly selected message at the center. The message may be either a helpful gameplay hint, or one of many quotations concerning space, science, and/or engineering. Many of these quotes are from notable scientists such as Isaac Newton, Galileo Galilei, Albert Einstein, as well as authors such as Arthur C. Clarke.

Once in-game, the player is given control of a single astronaut (referred to as a "Space Engineer") and a set of tools comprising a drill, a welder, and a grinder (if spawn with tools is on). Construction begins by choosing any block from the Engineer"s inventory, and placing it anywhere in open space to create a new voxel grid. Additional blocks can then be added to this grid to create a structure.

Armor blocks, the most basic and common of all blocks, can be realistically damaged and deformed through collisions or the use of weapons.keypads, which can be used to view and manipulate the status of other specific blocks attached to the structure. To be functionally connected however, and to transport materials, blocks called "conveyors" must be used to connect the desired machines. "Functional" blocks require power, which can be provided by solar panels or nuclear reactors attached to the same structure. While reactors must be supplied with uranium, and produce large amounts of power while active, solar panels will continually produce a low output of power when there is line-of-sight to the sun. Once being produced, power is automatically distributed throughout the entire structure and can also be stored in batteries.

The size, resource requirements, and availability of blocks depends on the type of structure they are attached to. Blocks such as assemblers or refineries do not have "small" variants, whereas large ships and stations cannot use gatling guns, instead using AI-controlled gatling or missile turrets. Blocks attached to a small ship are considerably smaller, allowing a much greater level of detail, and require fewer resources than those attached to large ships or stations (for example, light armor requires 25 steel plates on a station, but only one on a small ship).

Ships can be deliberately moved and rotated by external forces and a player as long as they are powered and have at least one gyroscope, thruster, and cockpit. To be able to move in any direction and then be able to stop effectively via inertia dampeners, thrusters must be placed on the structure facing up, down, forward, backward, left, and right. More gyroscopes on a ship will increase the ship"s ability to rotate in space, but in order for the inertial dampeners to be more effective, more thrusters must be added in each direction in which dampening is required.

Astronauts floating in space are able to move forward, backward, upwards, downwards, left, or right without restriction by using a jetpack. They are also able to rotate clockwise or counterclockwise. Astronauts and structures can also enable or disable inertial dampeners, which automatically attempt to reduce speed to zero when force is not being applied, and the required thrusters are installed.

If the player disables their jetpack within a gravitational field (either on the surface of a planet or a structure/asteroid with a gravity generator), movement is restricted to a plane perpendicular to the direction of the net gravity field(s). Vertical viewing angle is also restricted between −90 and 90 degrees, as in most first-person shooters. Ships and structures are unaffected by gravity generators unless equipped with at least one Artificial Mass block. If the player falls off a structure while within a gravity field, they will fall into space until out of range of the gravity generator, at which point the player"s jetpack will automatically enable itself. However, if the player touches their feet to an asteroid or structure with no gravity present, their "mag-boots" will enable them to walk across its surface and even around edges; though jumping will disconnect the player from the surface, and they cannot traverse the 90-degree angle between a floor and wall.

Several types of cargo ships can spawn randomly and fly through the world, which can be hijacked by the player or harvested for components. Some of these cargo ships are booby trapped to explode when the player attempts to commandeer them, and are sometimes armed with hostile gatling or missile turrets.

All place-able objects can be colored prior to placement using a slider-based GUI. The player can manipulate the hue, saturation, and value of the color to produce a very large spectrum of colors. There are 14 slots where new colors can be saved for later use within the same world. Colors can also be changed after blocks have been placed by clicking the middle mouse button while hovering over a block on the "Color Picker" GUI.

Asteroids and planets consist of terrain voxels, which substantially differ from blocks, and although possible to destroy by the player, cannot be created by them unless in creative mode. Celestial objects are currently fixed in space and cannot move, however, rocks/minerals that have been mined are subject to gravity and will react accordingly. Asteroids also do not currently have gravity associated with them, and can come in several basic forms including spherical, torus, and rod-shapes, as well other variations or combinations of these.

In survival mode, players need to mine, collect, and refine various chemical elements from asteroids and planets in order to craft tools, weapons, and blocks as well as produce electricity. Resources can be mined manually using a hand drill, or by using ships with the necessary equipment. Components are produced by assembling them from raw materials; however, they can also be harvested by salvaging cargo ships. To avoid death, players must monitor their health, energy and oxygen levels. Damage can be inflicted on the player by collisions, weapons, contact with thrusters, meteor showers, or by running out of space suit energy. Collisions at higher speeds result in more damage. As the acceleration value of gravity generators stacks, damage from falling can be much more dangerous when multiple gravity generators are active. A player"s health and energy can be restored using a Medical Room block, or a Survival Kit block. Energy can also be replenished by sitting in the cockpit of any powered structure. The development of survival mode began at the end of summer of 2013.

In the survival mode of the game, all actions, including survival itself due to the power requirements of the space-suit"s life-support system, depend on the gathering and refining of certain minerals. These minerals can be found on asteroids or planets, plundered from randomly spawned ships, or recovered from unknown signals. Raw materials are mined from deposits of ore on asteroids, and are then placed (or sent using a conveyor system) into a basic refinery or refinery in order to refine them to be used in assemblers. The refined materials are formed into various components in the assembler which can then be used in the construction of ships or stations.

Inventories in Space Engineers are very flexible and work in a whole-ship manner rather than in an individual one. All inventories connected to a ship can be viewed from any access panel on the same ship, however inventories must be connected via conveyors and conveyor tubes in order for items to be transferred among them. Inventories of refineries and assemblers will automatically request items to refine from connected inventories when they get low, and will send items into an available inventory when it fills up. The conveyor sorter allows inventories to be automatically removed and sorted from and into certain inventories. Instead of a common slot system, Space Engineers uses a volumetric system, measured in litres, with every item having a certain amount of volume and every inventory a certain capacity that it cannot exceed.

Planets in Space Engineers were released on November 12, 2015, after being in development since February 2015. There are several types of planets, themed after Earth, the Moon, Mars, Titan, Europa, and an "alien" planet.NPCs, and the Earth-like planet features wolves, hostile dog-like NPCs.

Atmospheric flight is possible even on worlds with oxygen-deprived atmospheres. In order to leave a planet, the player will need to use hydrogen engines with sufficient fuel or build a hybrid spacecraft with atmospheric engines (for liftoff) and ion engines (upper atmosphere to space).

Hybrid surface-to-orbit craft are considerably heavier than their space-only counterparts, but can be built compact enough to fit inside a standard hangar.

On August 17, 2017, "unknown signals" were added to survival mode. These signals spawn randomly within a certain range of the player, and indicate the position of a small probe via a GPS coordinate and a repeating tone. Each probe contains components and can be disassembled, preventing the player from encountering dead end situations in which they do not have the components needed to produce the basic machines which are essential for constructing components and other machines, effectively preventing a catch-22.

Each probe also possesses a button, which when pressed has a chance to reward the player with a collectible skin, similar to a loot box. The skin can be for the player character"s helmet, suit, boots, or tools, and can be traded or sold on the Steam Market. Each skin can be obtained for free in-game, with the exception of three sets: the Veteran Set, which was awarded to players who had owned the game before and played between August and September 2017; the Medieval Set, which is awarded to players who also own Medieval Engineers; and the Golden Set, which is awarded to players who purchase the Space Engineers Deluxe Edition.

Space Engineers was developed and published by the indie video game developer Keen Software House based in the Czech Republic. Implemented as a voxel-based sandbox game set in an asteroid field in space, built on their own game engine, VRAGE 2.

If you have an Apple product like the Mac Mini, you"ll want to take full advantage of it by completing your Apple ecosystem with this monitor. It"s a unique monitor with features you can only use with an Apple device, like using its extremely accurate sRGB mode. It makes colors look accurate without any calibration, which is important if you"re a photo editor. It has a 5k resolution that results in extremely sharp text, and you can easily open multiple windows at once.

There are a few different variants of this monitor, with one of the differences being the stand that it comes with. The stand on the unit we tested only offers tilt adjustments, but there"s a version with height adjustments and another with a VESA adapter if you want to mount it on an arm instead. Another difference in variants is the screen finish. Luckily, even if you get the standard screen coating, it has fantastic reflection handling and easily gets bright enough to fight glare, making it a great choice for well-lit rooms.

If you find the Apple Studio Display too expensive and want something with high-end features for a bit less, check out the LG 40WP95C-W. It"s different from the Apple monitor because it has an ultrawide 40-inch screen with plenty of space to open multiple windows at once, which is great if you like multitasking. It has a 5120x2160 resolution, and while that means it has a lower pixel density than the Apple monitor, the text clarity is still fantastic. It also has Thunderbolt 4 support on two ports, which lets you take full advantage of the Mac Mini.

It"s a great choice if you"re a content creator because it has a dedicated sRGB picture mode that results in excellent color accuracy before calibration, and it also displays a wide range of colors both in SDR and HDR. Unfortunately, it isn"t as bright as the Apple monitor, and its reflection handling is just decent, so it isn"t ideal for well-lit rooms. If that"s important to you, the Gigabyte M34WQ is much cheaper and gets brighter, but it doesn"t have Thunderbolt 4 support and has a smaller screen.

If you still prefer something even cheaper, you can find a monitor in the mid-range price category for a lot less, like the Dell U2723QE. It"s smaller than the LG 40PW95C-W and instead has the same 27-inch screen as the Apple Studio Display with a lower 4k resolution, but the text clarity is once again fantastic. It works without issue with macOS devices, and you can even use its KVM switch to control two devices with the same keyboard and mouse, like if you want to connect your Mac Mini and MacBook. It has three USB-C ports, and one of them supports DisplayPort Alt Mode if you want to connect your computer via USB-C.

Like the other monitors, it has excellent accuracy before calibration, and the colors don"t look oversaturated. It also has perfect coverage of the sRGB color space used in most web content and great coverage of the Adobe RGB color space used in photo editing. If you find the 27-inch screen too small, the Dell U3223QE is a larger alternative, but the colors look undersaturated in HDR, and it costs more only for a bigger screen.

If you"re looking for something cheaper in the lower mid-range price category, then look into the Dell S2722QC. It often goes on sale, so even if you"re on a tight budget, it"s a good choice. It"s a lower-end version of the Dell U2723QE, so it has fewer USB-C ports and doesn"t have a KVM switch, meaning that while the U2723QE is better for multitasking thanks to its extra features, this monitor is still excellent overall. There aren"t any issues with a Mac Mini, and it"s easy to connect to it via its USB-C input that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode. The 4k resolution also delivers sharp text, and the 27-inch screen is big enough to open multiple windows at once.

The ergonomic stand makes it easy to adjust the screen in an ideal position. It also has wide viewing angles if you need to share the screen with someone else, and you won"t have issues using it in a bright room either, as it gets bright enough to fight glare. Sadly, it doesn"t have an sRGB mode, which isn"t ideal if your work requires accurate colors, but it"s fine if you just need it for regular office use.

If you"re looking for a monitor on a budget and you can"t find the Dell S2722QC on sale, there are a few slightly cheaper displays you can get, although you"ll have to give up a few features. If that interests you, the ASUS ProArt Display PA278QV is a great choice as it delivers impressive office performance. It doesn"t have USB-C ports like the Dell S2722QC, so you have to connect with it via HDMI or a USB-C adapter. It works well with macOS devices, except there are some issues when the device goes to sleep as you need to reconnect it, but this is more of an issue with MacBooks and not so much with Mac Minis if you disable the sleep settings.

It has a lower 1440p resolution than the Dell, but the text clarity is still decent. Despite its budget price, it has a dedicated sRGB mode with amazing accuracy, which is important if your work requires accurate colors. Its stand also offers outstanding ergonomics as you can easily adjust it to your liking, and its wide viewing angles are ideal if you need to share your screen with someone else.

If you need a basic display for your Mac Mini, the ASUS VG246H is even cheaper than the ASUS ProArt Display PA278QV, and it"s still good for office use. It has a smaller 24-inch screen and 1080p resolution, which also results in decent text clarity, but it isn"t ideal if you need to open multiple windows at once. It has many of the same features, including incredible ergonomics and amazing color accuracy, thanks to its sRGB mode. It doesn"t get as bright, so it"s best to use in a dim or moderately-lit room, but the reflection handling is still very good.

As expected for a cheap monitor, it"s limited in extra features and doesn"t have a USB hub, and you can only connect to it via HDMI. Despite its low cost, it still has decent build quality, and the ergonomics are remarkable as you can adjust the screen however you like, including a portrait mode. It"s great if you want to use it in a vertical orientation as a secondary display in a multi-monitor setup.

The LG 38WN95C-W is an ultrawide monitor like the LG 40WP95C-W that costs a bit less, but it isn"t as good for productivity because it has worse text clarity and a smaller USB hub. However, it gets brighter, if that"s important to you.

A character LCD module has a small amount of RAM that can store text and supports the continuity of text scrolling across an LCD display. However, this requires a careful design of the embedded program.

In this tutorial, we will flash a long string of text on a character LCD from Arduino and review the different steps and concerns that should be considered.

Displaying long textDisplaying long strings of text on a character LCD is far from straight forward. The reason for this is that the display data RAM of character LCD modules is limited. For example, the display data RAM (DDRAM) of a 16×2 character LCD can store only 80 characters. In a two-line mode, the DDRAM can only store 40 characters per line. This means any attempt to store a text string greater than 40 characters will override the other line.

If you want to display and scroll text greater than 40 characters on a line of 16×2 LCD, the only way to do so is to break the original string into parts and write those parts of the text string to the DDRAM one by one, scrolling each part of the text string.

Another concern is maintaining continuity of the text that’s scrolling through the LCD. If only 40 characters per line can be written to an LCD module at one time, then only 16 characters can be displayed on the LCD at a time. To maintain the continuity of text scrolling across the LCD, some characters from the previous text segment need to be repeated in the next text segment that’s written to the DDRAM.

For example, on a 16×2 character LCD, if the text is scrolled one character per step, 15 characters from the current text segment will need to be repeated in the next text segment that’s written to the DDRAM. For other LCD modules, one less the number of characters per line needs to be repeated in the text segments. The size of the text segment that can be written to the DDRAM at a time depends on the number of characters per line that can be stored in the DDRAM of that LCD module.

So, let’s suppose the following text string has to be scrolled on a line of character LCD: “Quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog Quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog Quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog “

The above string has 120 characters. Since only 40 characters can be written to the DDRAM at one time, 15 characters must be repeated from the previous text segment to maintain the continuity of text on a 16×2 LCD.

To display and scroll the above-given text string of 120 characters on a 16×2 LCD, it’s necessary to break it into five text segments of 40-character lengths (except for the last one) — with 15 (16-1) characters repeating in each consecutive segment. This is because each line displays 16 characters at a time while scrolling one character at a time.

The text segments from 1 to 4 have to be scrolled 24 (40-16) times as 40 characters are written to the DDRAM at a time. These characters are scrolled on a 16-character line while the last text segment should be scrolled however many times is the length of the segment in characters — plus additional padding (spaces) between each repetition of the scroll.

If you’re not adding any padding between the repeated text scroll, the text segment “5” needs to be scrolled 21 times (the length of the segment), or at least five times (21-16) as per choice.

The print() function is used to write textual data to the DDRAM of the character LCD. For scrolling a long text on a character LCD, the text can be broken up, as explained above, and each segment can be written to the DDRAM using the print() function.

The scrollDisplayLeft() methodThis function scrolls the content from the display (the text and cursor) one space to the left. It needs no arguments. It simply scrolls the text written to the DDRAM by one space from the current DDRAM address (as in the address counter of the LCD).

The recipeIn this recipe, we will scroll long text of strings on a 16×2 character LCD. Two different strings will be scrolled on two lines of the 16×2 LCD.

One of the strings will scroll on the top line of the character LCD and repeatedly display, “EEWORLDONLINE.” The second string will scroll on the bottom line of the 16×2 LCD. It displays all of the websites of the EE Network with WTWH Media LLC.

Circuit connectionsThe LCD module used in this project is JHD162A. This is a 16×2 LCD module with 5×8 character dots. The LCD module has a 16-pin interface. The LCD is interfaced with Arduino in a 4-bit mode. The pin 1 (GND) and 16 (LED) of the LCD module are connected to ground. Pin 2 (VCC) is connected to the VCC.

The pin 15 (LED+) of the LCD module is connected to the VCC via a small-value resistor. Pin 3 (VEE) is connected to the variable terminal of a pot while the fixed terminals of the pot are connected to ground and VCC.

The R/W pin is connected to ground because Arduino will only write data to the LCD module. The RS, EN, DB4, DB5, DB6, and DB7 pins of the LCD are connected to pins 13, 11, 7, 6, 5, and 4 of Arduino UNO, respectively. The breadboard is supplied to the common ground and the 5V supply rail from one of the ground pins and the 5V pin of Arduino UNO.

The goal is to display two strings on a 16×2 LCD module. One of the strings just displays the text “EEWORLDONLINE” on line 0 of the LCD. While scrolling on the display, this text must also scroll continuously on line 0. The text is repeated in a long string with two spaces between each repetition of the text.

After the third line segment, the string segments 1 to 3 begin repeating to enable the repeating text display, “EEWORLDONLINE.” All of the above three text-segments are 40-characters long and need to be scrolled 24 times (40-16) on a line of the 16×2 LCD.

All of the text segments are 40-characters long except the last one because the maximum capacity of the LCD’s DDRAM is 40 characters per line. Each subsequent text segment starts by repeating the last 15 characters of the previous text segment to ensure continuity of the scrolling text on the display.

A total of 15 characters are repeated because each line of the display has 16 characters and on scrolling by one space, the last 15 characters must match with the previous text segment whenever new data is written to the DDRAM. Each text segment is scrolled 24 times (40-16) as there are 40 characters stored on the DDRAM at one time and 16 characters are displayed on a line at a time on the LCD. The last line is scrolled according to the number of characters in it. This means it is scrolled less than 24 times.

The result is a scrolling display on 16×2 LCD that highlights EEWORLDONLINE on line 0 and all of the websites that are a part of the EE network on line 1.

Programming guideThe Arduino sketch starts importing the LiquidCrystal library. Then, an object defined by the variable “lcd” is defined of the LiquidCrystal class.

In the loop() function, the LCD display is first cleared using the clear() method, and the cursor is set at column 0 of the line 0, using the setCursor() method.

The text ” EEWORLDONLINE EEWORLDONLINE EEWORLDO” is printed using the print() method on the “lcd” object. Similarly, the text “”eeworldonline.com engineersgarage.com ” is printed at column 0 of line 1.

Next, a for loop is run in which the entire display is shifted left by using the scrollDisplayLeft() method 24 times. After scrolling the display on the LCD, a delay of 300 milliseconds each time is provided using the delay() function.

Similarly, the other text segments are displayed and scrolled. On line 0, three text segments are repeated continuously until the last trimmed text segment is displayed. On line 1, 11 text segments are displayed and scrolled. The last text segment on both lines is scrolled five times, according to the length of the text segments.

The body of the loop() function keeps repeating itself until Arduino is shutdown. Therefore, both long strings keep scrolling on lines 0 and 1 of the LCD module.

Arduino lacks support for C-style string manipulation functions. Otherwise, the sketch could be reduced to a few lines by storing the entire string to a variable and then trimming the string in each step for passing to the DDRAM of the LCD module. Even if the standard C’s string library might have been supported, the use of the string manipulation function would have increased the footprint of the embedded program.

The various LCD Panel blocks are a great way to add a human touch to a ship or base by displaying useful images or text. For LCD configuration and usage, see LCD Surface Options.

Note: Some functional blocks, such as Cockpits, Programmable Blocks, Custom Turret Controllers, and Button Panels, have customizable LCD surfaces built in that work the same way as LCD Panel blocks, which are also discussed in detail under LCD Surface Options.

LCD Panels need to be built on a powered grid to work. Without power, they display an "Offline" text. While powered without having a text, image, or script set up, they display "Online".

LCD Panel blocks come in a variety of sizes from tiny to huge (see list below) and are available for large and small grid sizes. Note that LCD Panel blocks all have connections on their backs, and very few also on a second side.

All LCD Panels and LCD surfaces work with the same principle: They are capable of displaying dynamic scripts, or few inbuilt static images accompanied by editable text. Access the ship"s Control Panel Screen to configure LCD Panels or LCD surfaces; or face the LCD Panel block and press "K".

A Text Panel, despite its name, can also display images. On large grid, it is rectangular and does not fully cover the side of a 1x1x1 block. On small grid it is 1x1x1, the smallest possible LCD block in game.

On large grid, you choose the Text Panel when you need something that has rectangular dimensions that make it look like a wall-mounted TV or computer screen. If you want to display images, this one works best with the built-in posters whose names end in "H" or "V" (for horizontal or vertical rotation). On Small grid, you place these tiny display surfaces so you can see them well while seated in a cockpit or control seat, to create a custom display array of flight and status information around you.

Corner LCDs are much smaller display panels that typically hold a few lines of text. They don"t cover the block you place them on and are best suited as signage for doors, passages, or containers. They are less suitable for displaying images, even though it"s possible. If you enable the "Keep aspect ratio" option, the image will take up less than a third of the available space.

These huge Sci-Fi LCD Panels come in sizes of 5x5, 5x3, and 3x3 blocks, and can be built on large grids only. These panels are only available to build if you purchase the "Sparks of the Future" pack DLC.

They work the same as all other LCD Panels, the only difference is that they are very large. In the scenario that comes with the free "Sparks of the Future" update, they are used prominently as advertisement boards on an asteroid station.

This LCD panel can be built on large and small grids. The transparent LCD is basically a 1x1x1 framed window that displays images and text. It is part of the paid "Decorative Blocks Pack #2" DLC.

What is special about them is that if you set the background color to black, this panel becomes a transparent window with a built-in display. In contrast to other LCD Panels it has no solid backside, which makes it ideal to construct transparent cockpit HUDs, or simply as cosmetic decoration.

While configuring an LCD Panel, the GUI covers up the display in-world and you can"t see how the text or images comes out. In the UI Options, you can lower the UI Background opacity to be translucent, so you can watch what you are doing more easily.

You can set up displays for each room of your ship. But what’s really cool about this mod is it allows you to create a sort-of “master hub” which displays the values for every room.

The mod gives you options that you can set, like how far you should be for the drone to start following you, how far a drone will stay away from its target, and a quick toggle switch to make the drone stop following you when you don’t need him anymore.

He actually takes inspiration from real-time strategy games to give you easier control of units in Space Engineers, with Fleet Command MKII targeted specifically at controlling ship fleets.

The pack includes a number of turrets and cannons to play around with, along with mounts and casemates, depending on what you need for each of your ships.

Other than the Death Star gun and Star Trek cockpit, the modding community has come up with loads of new parts for you to use to make your Space Engineers ships even better.

The mod is actually the result of a collaborative effort between 11 different modders, and according to them it should offer pretty much everything you could possibly need.

It poses a real challenge to get however, as the planet’s gravity is extremely high, and the heat makes it difficult to stay for extended periods of time.

These last two aren’t as big compared to other entries, but are more like bonus mods that showcase the endless possibilities offered in Space Engineers.

This just goes to show that anything is possible with modding, and I’m sure there’s still loads of interesting content to come for this game down the line.

However, picking a new monitor can be daunting. Not only are there lots of manufacturers to choose from, but there are also lots of sizes, resolutions, and features to consider–and when we say lots, we mean lots. We’re here to help guide you while you shop, and we have some tips on what to look for in a monitor.

Apple sells displays for its Macs, and you could go with its offerings, but its displays are a quite bit more expensive than what third parties have. Buying from a different company may mean you may not get a feature that Apple offers, but then it may also be a feature that you don’t need, depending on how you use the monitor. Fortunately, there are plenty of companies that have great monitors that you can use with your Mac, without having to take out a second mortgage. Our sister publications TechAdvisor and PCWorld have tested several displays, and we list their top-rated ones that we have been able to confirm work with Macs, alongside the monitors we have reviewed below. Here are our recommendations in alphabetical order.

Apple’s highly specced Pro Display XDR is a stunning piece of engineering, and we found it hard to find fault with the picture quality and colour output, but at that price and with these features this is a display for a very specific audience.

The XDR is phenomenally well-specced: it’s 32in and 6K, offering 40 percent more screen space than Apple’s 5K displays, and offers a peak brightness of 1,600 nits (or 1,000 sustained). But it comes with a seriously eye-watering price tag, especially if you want to include the Pro Stand for adjustability and pivoting.

As a production display, the Studio Display is still expensive but is an affordable alternative to the Pro Display XDR. Buyers will enjoy its handsome design, good image quality, and impressive spatial audio, but you can save a lot of money by going with a non-Apple display.

Apple displays have always produced very good image quality, and the Studio Display continues that tradition. Colors are rich, contrast is good, and the brightness is suitable for most tasks.

The Studio Display has a tilt-adjustable stand, but it does not pivot between landscape and portrait modes, like the Pro Display XDR. You can get a stand that provides about four inches of height adjustment but it doesn’t come cheap. The price tag for the tilt- and height-adjustable stand is a whopping $400/£400 more.

The sylish Dell Ultrasharp U2421E is a slick design perfect for those with a USB-C/Thunderbolt charged MacBook, as the docking station features are handy. The colour range is also good, and while the price is high for this resolution and size, there are cheaper prices available online—check the latest prices above.

it looks professional and almost Apple-ish, and the support arm allows it to pivot and tilt extensively. It’s also got decent colour representation with close to 100% sRGB coverage and 83% of the P3 colour space.

The Asus ProArt PA279CV is a 4K monitor that offers accurate color and important “pro” features such as accurate gamma presets. It even has USB-C connectivity, making it an excellent choice for creators looking to upgrade from their laptop display.

It’s not a great-looking monitor, with larger than average display bevels on the plasticky chassis. It’s not luxurious but it’s fine for an office or workstation.

Asus’ ProArt PA279CV is a sensible choice for content creators who want a color accurate 4K monitor but don’t want to clean out their savings account.

Acer’s Nitro XV272 costs more than a lot of 1080p monitors, but the IPS, 165Hz screen provides above-average image quality, excellent color accuracy and motion performance, and a full range of monitor-stand adjustments and a generous array of ports make it worth the cost.

But there’s more to the U3223QE than the panel. It’s also a fantastic business, productivity, and professional monitor loaded with image-quality options and a king’s buffet of connectivity.

The stand adjusts for height, tilt, and swivel—features that shoppers expect at this price. However, it throws in a bonus: It can pivot 90 degrees for use in portrait mode. This is rare for a 32-inch monitor, as most stands lack the height to allow it.

The Alienware AW3423DW makes every other 34-inch ultrawide gaming monitor obsolete. It’s also a somewhat flawed display that won’t be ideal for everyone.

A massive stand keeps the monitor planted and adjusts for height, tilt, and swivel. It feels nice in-hand thanks to its heft and smooth, high-quality plastic cladding, but it’s less practical than it looks. The stand’s legs sweep forward, eating into desk space, and the stand’s neck is deep.

Gigabyte’s M27Q X doesn’t look like much out of the box, but this 1440p/240Hz IPS panel delivers a superb media experience where it counts, with excellent motion clarity and stunning image quality for an HD screen.

The stand adjusts for height and tilt but doesn’t swivel and can’t pivot 90 degrees for use in portrait orientation. And the chassis isn’t much to look at either.

Display technology is a bit of a movable feast, with a lot of confusing jargon and technical features to wade through, as well as a variety of different interfaces and cables that are used by Apple itself and the various monitor manufacturers. So it’s worth taking a closer look at some of the factors that you need to think about when buying a monitor for your Mac.

Size isn’t everything, as the saying goes, but it’s a good place to start. Your decision will be influenced by how much desk space you have, and how comfortable you are while using the display. Some people think that a big screen is best, but then when they start to use it daily, they find that it’s too big. And the same goes for customers who think a small screen is best.

If you’re looking for a size to start with for your own personal research, we recommend 24 inches—just like with Apple’s iMac. That seems like a good size for most people, and it’s easy to go up or down from that point. Most people tend to go between 24 and 27 inches for home use.

For professionals—graphics, video, audio, even spreadsheets—a large screen will help you be more productive. Think 27 inches and higher. You’ll be able to fit more elements on the screen and not waste your time scrolling.

If on-screen real estate is valuable to you, consider a multi-display setup. A smaller screen can be used for things like chat, email, web, and more, while the bigger screen is your main workspace. Or get screens of the same size and maximize the space.

Often, when you find two displays that are the same size but have a wide price difference, it’s mostly because of the screen resolution. Monitors with high resolutions are more expensive. For example, Apple’s $1,599 Studio Display is 27 inches, and it has a high screen resolution of 5120×2880 (5K resolution). On the other hand, LG sells the 27-inch 27UK650-W, but it’s a 3840×2160 (4K) resolution display for content creators, and it’s $350–lower resolution, but $1,249 cheaper. (There actually aren’t other 27-inch 5K monitors available, except for the $1,449 LG UltraFine 27MD5KL-B.)

Apple also provides a guide to HDMI and DisplayPort technology, which covers Mac models going right back to 2008, so that should provide all the info you need for all the Macs you use at home or at work. Less expensive monitors still tend to use HDMI and DisplayPort, and while it’s not too costly to buy adapters that will allow you to connect your Mac, we reckon it’s worth future-proofing your new monitor by getting one that includes at least one USB-C or Thunderbolt port.

If a display uses Thunderbolt to connect to the Mac, it may have additional USB-C or Thunderbolt ports so the display can act as a hub. In this case, If you have a device you want to connect to your Mac, you can connect it to one of the ports on the monitor, which is already connected to the Mac and probably in an easier location for access.

Look for a USB-C or Thunderbolt connection with power delivery (PD) that can charge your MacBook. A 65W PD will be enough for a MacBook Air or 14-inch MacBook Pro, but you’ll need at least 90W for a 15-inch or 16-inch Pro.

If you’re going to spend a lot of time sitting at a desk looking at your lovely new display then you need to keep ergonomics in mind. The ability to tilt the angle of the monitor back and forth, swivel it around for easy viewing, and adjust the height of the monitor in order to avoid an aching back or neck.
