Moreover, you have to constantly innovate your menu in order to turn occasional customers into loyal patrons of your establishment. The last thing you have time for is designing eye-catching menus each time your dishes get a new culinary twist. So what does a busy restaurateur do? Use free digital menu board templates of course! That way all the design busywork gets done for you, like a pro.

Ask anyone who runs digital signage screens for tips that make content creation easier, and they will mention the benefits of using screen layout templates. Firstly, they’re professionally designed. And that takes the guesswork out of creating a layout from scratch. Why waste time trying to design one yourself when a professional designer created them specifically for restaurants? Restaurant signage templates also help you save money since you don’t have to hire someone to create them for you. And looks matter when it comes to digital signage. You want whatever’s playing on your screens to look great, in order to get customers’ attention. Once people focus on your attractive screen layout and see all your menu items, cross-selling and upselling happen automatically.

Secondly, you can customize digital menu board templates. That means you can add your own images and videos, change the text and add your branding. Most importantly, by customizing menu board templates, they reflect who you are and what your establishment brings to the market. There’s nothing generic about them. In fact, they give you a strong design foundation upon which to add your personal touches.

Most importantly, digital menu board templates provide a seamless way of switching to digital signage from traditional paper menus. When you first install your digital signage screens, you want to reap the benefits as soon as possible. With restaurant signage templates, you can have your menu up on screen in seconds. All you need to do is type in the name of each menu item and the price. Your screens will then do all the promotion work for you.

Furthermore, you have the freedom and flexibility to change your menu and prices as often as you want. You’ll revel in how liberating it is to not worry about printing costs. Additionally, you can update digital templates and advertise all the great local ingredients or fancy new drinks you serve, cost-free. So your customers can instantly see all the seasonal or special offerings of the day, using eye-catching videos and images. Even if you don’t have your own media, you can use free stock pics and videos in your digital templates. And digital menu board templates double as a useful tool to see which menu items attract the most attention and sell the most. Switch up what you display on screen, and see how it affects sales. Moreover, all this happens without paying a cent for printing or labor costs.

Restaurants, bars, cafés, diners, fast food franchises and cafeterias can all take advantage of free digital menu board templates. They will all experience the upselling and advertising boost that comes with using menu board templates. And all they have to do is list their menu items and prices. Additionally, schools and offices that sell food and beverages on-site will also save time and money by using them. You don’t need an expensive digital signage setup to switch to digital menu boards. Any TV and a user-friendly, online content management system will do. Plus, templates make content creation something any employee can do quickly and easily.

Type whatever you want to call your menu board template in the ‘Name’ field. You will find it in the ‘Layout Settings’ window that appears on the right.

You will see a zone settings menu on the right. Scroll down to customize each element in that specific template zone. Pick a font, text size and color that reflects your branding. Also, you can replace that image, video or playlist with one of your own. Just scroll down. Additionally, you can add your own logo in the same way. Furthermore, you will have to change the placeholder text. Just click on the text you want to edit and type whatever you want in the template.

What makes digital signage content templates so popular? The fact that they look great, can get customized in seconds, and engage customers. You don’t have to fret over designing something that looks good and appeals to patrons, because professionals created these templates with your business in mind. They know how to leverage the power of visual communication in order to maximize your profits. Most importantly, while your customers wait in line, your screens do the upselling and cross-selling. And they also save you time and money since you don’t need to pay for printing and design work. Added bonus? You help the environment and go paperless.

Digital menus are great for business; for both customers and staff. From providing visuals of your products to promoting special offers, a digital menu can enhance a customer’s overall experience.

While we’ve written more about the benefits of digital menu boards here, in this guide we’ll be showing you how easy it is to get your content up on your screens.

There’s nothing worse than hearing the words “unfortunately we have run out of…” just after you have spent ten minutes deciding what you want to eat from the menu. And for servers, having to repeat special offers, dishes and ingredients can take up a lot of time.

Digital restaurant boards allow you to change content as simply as entering a new product, or deleting an old one. The benefit of this is if you run out of a dish, you can remove it from all of your screens in just a few clicks.

Digital menu boards can also show restaurant favorites and delve more into the ingredients, or even the preparation methods. If you have a special offer or promotion, then  you can schedule this content to show at particular times or on particular days without having to manually change anything.

If you want to design a menu from scratch (or mimic your printed menu design) you can use a design tool such as Photoshop, Indesign or You have two options when it comes to designing your digital menu boards with ScreenCloud: Canvas, and the Digital Menu Board app.

Canvas is an easy-to-use design editor tool that allows you to create screen-ready content quickly. It’s also one of the most-used apps on ScreenCloud. If you need inspiration, ScreenCloud has pre-loaded a series of templates for you to edit.

If you don’t want to use a design tool, or you don’t have design skills, you can use ScreenCloud’s Digital Menu Board software to create your restaurant menu easily.

The benefit of using our Digital Menu Board app is that it already contains templates for laying out your digital menu board. It’s also already connected to ScreenCloud (which lets you control your content on screen).

DSMenu allows you to create and manage a menu board directly from the cloud. With a ton of different menu board designs to choose from such as "grill", "fast food", "pizza", "burger", "beverages", "festivals", "snacks" and "offers" to name but a few! The DSMENU user guide takes you through how to get set up in a few easy steps.

Firstly, you pick your menu board template (up to 199 to choose from), or decide to start from scratch. The menu boards are fully customizable, allowing you to add your own menu items, change colors and upload images.

Once happy with your masterpiece you can download it as a PNG or JPEG file, or grab your unique URL. Load this into ScreenCloud and you"re ready to begin showing great digital menu boards on to your screens.

If you’re new to digital signage, then you’ll need to connect your screens to a ScreenCloud account. Take a look at how to get your screens ready with the quick video below.

If you don’t have a smart TV, all you need to invest in is a cheap media device, like an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K(around $40) or Chromecast with Google TV (around $50), and plug it into the HDMI port on the back of your TV. Or if you are looking for a more robust device that has business features, we suggest our Station P1 Pro device or an Intel NUC Celeron. Once it’s connected, you can use the same process to download the ScreenCloud app and get your menu onto your TV screen. You can find out which media device is best for your restaurant’s screens by using our Hardware Selector Tool.

Now you can upload your files from wherever they’re saved - your computer, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive and so on. ScreenCloud supports the majority of file types including jpeg, gif, png, and svg, PDFs and Office/iWorks formats to make uploading your content easier.

Anytime you need to make a change, or you update your restaurant menu, simply re-upload an image or make your changes within Canvas or your Menu Board app. This will change the content on your screens in real-time.

If you have multiple screens across multiple locations, as long as they’re connected to the same ScreenCloud account you only need to follow the steps above once; any changes made will be reflected on all selected screens. This makes it easy to manage all of your restaurant TV screens from one system.

As an example, you could create different menus to cover breakfast to dinner, including happy hours and meal deals. Add these menus to a Playlist and set them to your screen.

Click into the menu you wish to schedule, then Availability. By clicking on Enable availability you can then set the date and time you wish that content to show on your screen. This is great for scheduling on-going yet time-sensitive promotions without having to manually remember to take it up and down.

Our restaurant customer Mamuśka! is an example of this done really well. They have designed each menu to attract a specific audience at a specific time of day.

Digital menu boards are key to any retail or service business — be it a bar, restaurant, retail shop or cafeteria. You can easily create andeditdigital menu boards for your TVswith a slideshow app like Microsoft PowerPoint.

That"s why you need a digital menu board that"s easy to design and edit. Digital menu boards and signage systems boost revenue and improve the customer experience. It"s the best way to quickly communicate your products, services and prices to customers at the point of purchase.Unfortunately, most digital menu boards are clunky, expensive and difficult to use.

That’s why we created this comprehensive guideto creating and editing digital menu boards: If you can make a slideshow, you can make a menu board. It’s that simple. This guide shows you how to configure a familiar tool like Microsoft PowerPoint for digital menu boards and easily turn slides intomenusignage that makes people pay attention andtake action. You will be able to create and edit menu items, pricing and designs.

You can make menus from slideshow templates. Or you can use a digital signage solution that has menu board templates already built in. With Ditto digital signage, you can create and display menus in minutes.

From here, choose the best size option for your displays. This will vary depending on what devices your organization uses. However, a safe bet is the “On-Screen Show (16:9)” option. Most modern TVs display a 16:9 aspect ratio. You can also set custom dimensions if none of the existing defaults are what you need.

Creating and designing content for digital menu boards doesn’t have to be difficult. Start with built-in PowerPoint templates if you need design inspiration. Keep things simple, legible and relevant, like this digital menu board:

Ensure the file format you choose is compatible with your digital signage solution. Most digital signage content management systems (CMS) will accept common image and video files. For example, Ditto digital signage is compatible with a variety of media file types, such as PNG, JPEG, GIF and MP4.

Make sure to set up your slides to the correct aspect ratio and export them to the correct dimensions. Your slides should fill up the entire screen of your TVs and monitors.

You can export your slides as a set of static images or have PowerPoint combine them into a single video file that plays all slides for a set amount of time.

Now that you have exported your slides, it’s time to get them up on your screens. Some digital signage solutions only play files from a physical source like a USB drive. However, the best type of digital signage includes a CMS that is touch-free and accessible from anywhere.

Organize your content and set scheduling and duration parameters. To do this you’ll need to upload the files to your preferred signage solution or deploy physical hard drives loaded with your content to each display. The digital signage solution you use can make this process really simple or really time-consuming — opt for a centrally managed signage solution that has a built-in CMS, like Ditto.

How many times have you experienced this— you walk past a quick-serve restaurant, you notice the outdoor digital menu board displaying the mouthwatering images of a burger or sushi…and now, all of a sudden, you feel HUNGRY!

And, that is precisely why your restaurant desperately needs a digital menu board, if it already hasn’t got one. Both indoor and outdoor digital menu boards act as visual magnets to draw customers towards the counter and increase sales.

Therefore, irrespective of whether you are a five-star hotel or a local cafe/QSR, it is essential for you to think through the outlook and design of your restaurant digital menu boards.

Well, creating a digital menu board for a restaurant doesn’t have to be expensive or even priced at all. There are many design software that allow you to download as well as edit free digital menu board templates.

In this blog, we will tell you how to create digital menu boards for restaurants using both free and paid software. We have listed the six online menu makers that can help you create stunning and professional-looking digital menu boards for your QSR, food truck, restaurant, hotel, or school cafeteria.

Before choosing the design application, make sure that you know what file formats are supported by your digital menu board software. For example, Pickcel’s software for digital menu board supports all kinds of images, video formats, and URLs.

Pickcel has the perfect software for digital menu boards that will take care of all your creative necessities. This digital restaurant menu app can be a fabulous asset, particularly for those eateries that need to update their menu boards quite frequently, and for whom time is of the essence. This commonly includes food services like restaurants, cafes, QSRs, hotel restaurants, office canteens, drive thru stalls, etc.

Clean and organized menu design, fancy but readable texts, and a whole lot of breathable space to avoid confusing or overwhelming the customers. Believe it or not, creating such clever designs on your own is not really as simple as it may look.

But, that is the advantage of using ready-made templates of the Pickcel digital menu board app: They are designed by professionals and you can simply select a digital menu template and edit it to the very last detail like:

Image: The page view of the editor: users can edit food name, meal description, food image, restaurant name, category name, category description and add predefined tags here.

Image: The page shows advanced settings: here users can change the text formatting, background graphics, background opacity, currency, logo, add or remove tags, etc.

Exclusive for digital menu boards: As you scroll down through this list, you will see that there is hardly any software that is so fine-tuned to the requisites of the food service industry. When you use a dedicated software, the chances of your objective getting fulfilled (in this case, your menu board being an instrument of temptation so that your customers can’t avoid buying from you) increases strikingly.

Let"s add another great news: Pickcel users can now design and manage their digital menu boards directly through our integrated Canva design tool. Check out our step-by-step tutorial with images for more insight.

Mostly Vertical Menus: Sorry, we couldn’t find any such downside for this tool. If at all something has to be pointed out, then we can only say that most of the digital menu board templates are in portrait orientation. But then, you can always resize! The standard landscape aspect ratio is 16:9.

Easil is another user-friendly graphic design software where you can create beautiful content for your restaurant digital menu boards. It offers three tiers of pricing plans. The ‘Basic’ plan is free and is packed with useful features.

The digital menu board template designs are surely a breath of fresh air, especially if you have a weakness for pastel shades and minimalist designs! If you need horizontal menus, you may be a little disappointed at first glance, as Easil mostly offers vertical menu board templates.

But, don’t worry, we’ll let you in on a secret that will solve your problem: all you have to do is copy and resize the vertical template into the ‘Digital Screen’ (1920px X 1080 px) size. It’s that simple!

Custom dimension for digital screens: Digital menu boards for restaurants are generally large digital signage screens. For a layman, understanding the technical nitty-gritty of graphic design like size, resolution, and aspect ratios can be a genuine struggle. At the same time, not having the correct understanding of these dimensions can lead you to create a design that will ultimately appear blurry or pixelated on your digital signage displays. Easil completely obsoletes this hassle by providing a standard ‘digital screen’ dimensions.

Apple Keynote is another presentation tool that can be used to design beautiful dynamic and static digital menu boards for your restaurant/QSR. You will get plenty of gorgeous templates, to begin with. Apple Keynote comes pre-installed with Apple devices and can also be downloaded for free from the Mac App Store.

Tip: if you are a hip and urban restaurant/QSR with plenty of millennial customers, you can use this feature to give your digital menu board a cool and funky organic look!

The time factor: With more features, you need more time to figure them out. Besides, with Apple, you might be surprised at the number of new features getting introduced every now and then! So, for creating a digital menu board in Keynote, you might need to sit down with a cup of coffee, watch some tutorials before you can create a ‘wow’ design for the digital menu board. All we are saying is, we hope you are not in a hurry.

If you want to design your restaurant digital menu board right from scratch, then Google Slides can be your favorite application. It allows a much greater scope of collaboration. You can share your slides with others and can group edit your digital menu board designs in real-time.

Also, you can import any existing designs in PowerPoint and convert them into Google slides. If you want to get started with templates, that is also available. However, do not expect to find the kind of huge repository of templates that you get with applications like Canva or DS menu, or Easil.

Free: There is no subscription fee at all. Everything is free up to a limit. Supports screencast: Digital menu board designs made with Google Slides can be wirelessly cast on your digital displays directly from your android devices like smartphone, tablet, smartwatch, etc. using Chromecast, Hangouts, and AirPlay. You can get the tutorials here.

Comparatively Less Time-Efficient: Designing something from scratch comes with its own set of comfort and discomfort. While you may enjoy the satisfaction of creating something all by yourself, you will also need to put a little more effort and time which often businesses find scanty.

Before creating your digital menu board with PowerPoint, do make sure to resize the slides in the standard 16:9 ratio if you plan to show your menu on widescreen. The default aspect ratio of a PPT slide is 4:3. You can change the aspect ratio of your slides from the ‘Page Set-up’ option under the ‘Design’ tab of the toolbar.

Intelligent Design Suggestions: The new Microsoft PowerPoint version offers smart design suggestions based on the design of your first slide (as shown in the image above). You can find these suggestions under the ‘Designer’ tab. Some designs are free while others are only for ‘Premium’ members. Nevertheless, you can get a fair number of new digital menu board design ideas from this section.

A Little Time-Consuming: Same as with Google Slides; you will not get any such pre-baked designs for your restaurant digital menu board. Therefore, it is not a very time-efficient choice.

Once you have learned how to create a digital menu board for your restaurant or QSR outlet, it is time for you to move on to the next level: how to create a digital menu board that sells your products and communicates with your customers at the same time.

Add relevant images: Nothing cries ‘amateur’ more than an erratic and unrelated image/graphic in your digital menu board design. Imagine the disappointment of the customers when they walk into your restaurant hoping to get that delicious burrito displayed on your digital menu board but realize that it was just a decorative image and that you don’t actually sell one! You wouldn’t want to set a wrong impression, do you?

Less is More: While designing digital menu boards for restaurants, make sure that you do not crowd it with lots of graphics, font styles, and effects. Your customers will feel lost if you do that, and it might also make your menu look desperate for attention. Keeping it simple always works well enough.

Set Yourself Apart: Do a little homework on how your competitors design their digital menu boards? And, what can you do to make your’s a little different from the rest? If your competitors are using colorful images, then maybe you can go for the cool ‘chalkboard’ look. If others are using images, then you can add GIF or video elements to make your digital menu board even more dynamic.

Add Interactivity to Your Restaurant Digital Menu Board: When it comes to customer experience, nothing can beat the fun of interacting with gadgets & gizmos. That is why you need interactive digital menu boards for your restaurant . But the question is how.

However, on the upside, Pickcel provides affordable solutions like digital menu board solution and digital discount coupon that offer massive scope for digital interactivity along with an incredible range of advanced features that the DIY menu boards fail to match.

Check out: Pickcel"s Software for Digital Menu Boards! The software offers a consolidated platform to design, publish and manage your restaurant digital menu boards from anywhere, with any device!

The bottom line is, creating digital signage for restaurants, QSRs, cafes, or hotels does not have to be an ordeal. It doesn’t have to be expensive either. You don’t even need to hire a designer for the job. In today’s world of automation, designing your digital menu board can be an absolute breeze.

It is always advisable to employ a cloud based software using which all the digital screens can be managed. If you have multiple screens, this turns out to be the best solution. Same content can be pushed to multiple devices using a cloud based digital signage software solution. Menu updates can also be made easily. Simply upload the menu image/design, schedule it and play.

The traditional method of pushing content on digital menu boards is through pen drives. Digital menu boards should be easy to read. They give your restaurant a modern appearance and drive new sales. You don’t need to be a graphic designer to create an eye-catching digital menu for your restaurant, and several brands offer editable templates for restaurants of all types.

Update your menu for the New Year: Help customers fulfill their New Year’s resolutions by displaying healthy options on your menu. Read the recommended food lists from Whole30 and Veganuary if you need inspiration.

Click on the button below to use the template we crafted with Google Slides. Additionally, step-by-step instructions on how to create your own digital menu board are toward the bottom of this article.

This design from DSMenu is an excellent fit for restaurants of all types. Multiple colors draw your customers’ attention to different parts of the menu. For example, spaces for images allow you to include some mouthwatering food photos without creating image overload. The left panel includes your restaurant hours of operation, web address, and social media handles. You can also highlight special offers or promote specials here.

According to color psychology research, the colors orange and yellow make people hungry. This template by DSMenu embraces those colors and includes space for spotlight images of your shop’s signature beverages. The various banners showcase different drink styles—hot, iced, espresso-based, and non-espresso beverages—and the price bubbles make it easy for customers to see costs. The promo spot in the bottom right corner reminds you to highlight any deals you’re currently running or feature a signature seasonal drink.

This sandwich shop digital menu template combines the appetite-encouraging power of the color orange with the color green. To most people, green suggests freshness and health. This is an excellent combo for a shop that specializes in made-to-order sandwiches. We like how the various headers help categorize your sandwiches by flavor profile—fresh favorites, savory and spicy, craveable classics, and big and bold—so customers with various tastes can quickly find what they want.

This menu board is by NoviSign, a higher-priced signage brand that offers its services at custom-quoted rates. But this menu design offers some great ideas for non-NoviSign users too. It follows the classic fast-food model of highlighting combo orders with dynamic images. Listing each combo with a number speeds orders and reduces confusion for your cashiers. Showing the prices in a large font lets customers know exactly what to expect. And you can feature non-combo items in the footer menu that runs along the bottom of the screen.

Pizzerias have a lot of menu information to display. We love the way this menu template includes a section for signature pizzas and build-your-own pizzas. The dozens of topping options are neatly displayed, so customers don’t need to ask too many questions to design their pies. The left-hand column provides an excellent spot for mouthwatering menu images, business information, or listing current promotions.

Cafes and bistros tend to have wider-ranging menus than quick-service spots. They are also more likely to have liquor licenses, so they’ll want to display alcoholic beverage options. This streamlined menu design includes featured cocktails, starters, salads, main courses, and desserts. The illustrations that replace traditional menu photos allow you to give an impression of your food without committing to a specific plating or group of ingredients. This can be especially useful if your menu features farmers market ingredients that can change daily.

This handy digital menu from Must Have Menus walks customers through its order process step by step. We like how the bubbles showcase the options in each step. So by the time your customers reach your cashiers, they’ll be ready to place their order in an organized way. The bubble and arrow menu flow is a great way to display complex information in a small space.

Like bistros and cafes, diners tend to have extensive menus with lots of different fare. This template includes a section to highlight signature dishes and popular items and has categories for items from the griddle, omelets, specials, lighter fare, and combos. The subtle colors and classic typeface are easy to read and present a homey, comforting look.

If your menu is large and contains several item categories, this is the template for you. This digital menu board template includes sections for breakfast, entrees, sandwiches, share plates, beverages, beer, and desserts. And even with all those sections, it still finds room for a few spotlight sections that showcase signature items and remind customers about a promotional hot sauce. Like the bistro template, this menu template also relies on food illustrations, rather than menu photos. Here, the illustrations save space and allow for on-the-fly menu changes if you need to replace a dish’s garnishes or side items.

Remember how we mentioned color psychology above? We said that orange and yellow tend to make people hungry and that green makes people think of plants and health. So, it makes sense that a plant-based restaurant like a salad bar would use a lot of green. We also like how this template is framed by images of popular salad ingredients like lettuce, broccoli, peas, and tomatoes. The subtle lines separating the individual items allow you to include detailed menu descriptions without making the menu look cluttered. We also like the promotional box on the bottom right corner, where you can spotlight specials or build-your-own options.

Bakeries tend to feature a wide range of goods. The selections might vary by time of day, and some items may require pre-ordering. This template for a digital menu board includes plenty of space for you to list individual baked goods and any limitations about seasonal availability or preparation notes.

We love this image-driven menu template for donut shops. You can easily attach images for premium signature donuts to drive higher ticket orders. The text-only right-hand column lists classic donuts that donut lovers expect to find, from glazed to buttermilk. The range of eye-popping colors draws customers’ attention to various parts of the menu, and you can include your half dozen or dozen donut pricing in the spotlight section in the bottom right corner.

Build-your-own ordering has expanded beyond burgers and pizza. Nowadays, customers expect to build their own salads, grain bowls, noodle bowls, and burritos. This streamlined menu template has areas to walk customers through a four-step order process that fits any build-your-own concept. Multiple columns position the options for each step alongside the ordering instructions. The two-section header provides space to list price differences. The image column on the left-hand side lets you showcase a popular order combination or showcase a special offer.

Taprooms and draft houses tend to feature a lot of beers. The offerings tend to change seasonally or even weekly. With the number of small-batch craft beer producers growing every year—even during the COVID-19 pandemic—draft houses want to show beer lovers that they have the latest brews on tap. This template from BeerMenus organizes a lot of information in a small space. Each beer listing shows the beer style, the alcohol volume, serving size, and price. There is also room to include your taproom’s social media handles, and you can direct customers to more information about the individual beers on the BeerMenus app.

If you don’t want to subscribe to a digital menu board service, you can design your own digital menu template. Free to low-cost design apps like Canva include all the tools you need to create high-quality static images that you can download to a thumb drive. You can also create digital menu boards using presentation apps like PowerPoint and Google Slides. If DIY isn’t your bag, you might consider hiring a freelance designer through a site like Fiverr to handle the design work for you.

We like Google Slides for do-it-yourselfers because these internet-based slides can display on a computer, mobile device, or television equipped with Chromecast or AirPlay. Several TVs from manufacturers like Sony and Vizio include built-in Chromecast; just check the product details before purchasing. If your menu offerings, pricing, or availability change during the day, you can update your Google Slides online in real time, and the changes will quickly reflect on your screens.

Start with a blank slide. Use the design toolbar at the top of the screen to adjust the background color and add shapes, lines, and text boxes. Google Slides includes several options for shapes and colors to create a rough design. Add text boxes or tables to list individual items once you have a section for each menu category. We found that borderless tables are best for listing menu items; they keep your margins tidy.

If you have images of your menu items, you can include them as well. If you need a jumping-off point to create your design, you can tailor the Google Slide template we created. You can adjust every aspect of this design, from the font to the background colors, to make it fit your restaurant. You can also use the handy in-app Google search function to find free clipart if you need it.

A pop-up box will prompt you to choose whether to start the slideshow as soon as the player loads and restart the slideshow after the last slide. If you have more than one slide in the set, you can also set the duration between slides, from one second to one minute. This is handy if you have included a promotional screen to showcase daily specials, catering menus, or upcoming events.

Once you finalize your settings and hit the “Publish” button, a pop-up screen will show you the link to the slideshow. You can copy this link or share it via Gmail, Facebook, or Twitter.

On your Smart TV remote control, navigate to the television’s web browser. Type in the link to your Google Slides file. The slide—or slides—should appear on your screen. Depending on your screen size and layout, you may need to adjust the image size. You can do this in Google Slides by navigating to the “Page setup” option under the File menu.

The default page setup in Google Slides is 16:9, which will fit most television screens. But if your display is different, you can also choose a standard 4:3 format, widescreen 16:10, or set a custom size.

Alternatively, you can connect a laptop to your Smart TV using an HDMI cable or use your TV’s screen mirroring function to display the screen from another Wi-Fi-connected device on the TV screen. For screen mirroring, follow the instructions in your Smart TV user’s manual.

For a low-tech option, you can download your slides to a thumb drive and plug the thumb drive into your Smart TV. Just navigate to the File menu and choose the “Download” option. Google includes options to download your slides as a PDF, JPEG, and PNG file, among other file types.

A digital menu board is an electronic display of your menu on one or across multiple screens that replaces traditional printed menus and menu boards. Digital menus are better at capturing customers attention with video, graphics, and animations. Digital menu boards are typically created by mounting LCD or LED screens to the wall. These screens are controlled with digital menu board software to display your menu items, promotions, branding, and engage & entertain customers in your restaurant while they wait.

Digital menu boards work by combining hardware, software, and content together into one working system. The hardware components of digital signage are media players and displays. Media players turn your screen “smart” so it can connect & communicate with your digital signage software. Once connected, your menu is then deployed to your screen from your content management system that uses your internet, Wi-Fi, or wired connection.

Updating your restaurant’s paper menus or mounted static menu boards can cost you a lot. Digital menu boards are more cost-effective as they let you create and update your menus much more efficiently.Easily update content– With digital menu board software, you can quickly change anything on your menu from prices to media, to adding or removing items altogether. If you have more than one menu display or restaurants at multiple locations, you can update your menus across all of them simultaneously.

Highlight promotions & offers – Digital menu boards let you play with layout and timing to highlight deals or offers and increase sales of high-margin items. High quality graphics, dynamic content & crisp menu design improve customer’s experience and help you sell more.

Reduce perceived wait time – Beyond menus, you can engage your customers with news, sports, polls, or live feeds. Digital signage for restaurants, can be connected to all kinds of apps & content that drives your customers to action and makes them feel like they haven’t been waiting for long.

Long term savings – Printed menus require re-printing, shipping, installation, and disposal each time you need to update them. While there may be a higher up-front cost for digital menu boards, in the long term you’re saving yourself money and investing in something that can seriously drive revenue for your business.

Maintain brand consistency – Digital menu board software is great for franchises because it ensures all locations are up to date and present a consistent, high-quality appearance across their boards.

Digital signage solution providers, creative professionals, and business managers, welcome! You’ve landed on the rarest and the most inspiring list you’ll ever find: the top 5 real-life examples of truly engaging and effective interactive digital menu boards made with Intuiface.

With countless digital signage installations across verticals, retail and hospitality-related businesses are dominating the market share. Particularly, quick-service restaurants that offer diverse forms of digital signage represent 20 percent of the digital signage industry today (source). As an increasing number of behind-the-scene solution providers populate the market and success stories spread, it is becoming a trend for businesses to adoptdigital menu boards as the “go-to” solution for revamping customer engagement tactics.

Digital display boards are everywhere you go If you’ve ever spent time in front of a self-ordering kiosk to order a Big Mac with Diet Coke  McDonald’s or a Clam Chowder with Asian Salad at Panera will confirm, ask yourself - why did you prefer this to the equally available option for human interaction?

Social psychology has identified a shopper’s desire for what is called “empowered freedom” and thus services that fosters this sentiment, whether in a digital or interpersonal approach. As a matter fact, according to a survey by HRC Retail Advisory that involved 2,900 North American consumers, 95% of consumers want to be left alone while shopping, and 85% of shoppers would rather use a price scanner to check a price than have to track down and ask a customer service associate.

As previously highlighted, likely favorable results of replacing printed menu boards with digital ones are widely recognized. But providing customers the sentiment of freedom and empowerment requires a step further: incorporating interactivity into the digital menu which enables users to make decisions and orchestrate the content at their own pace.

Obviously, not all the interactive digital menu boards stand out and engage with users to the same degree. Part of the reason is that many solution providers fail to consider aspects beyond the form factor such as unique and immersive design, data driven content, hardware selection, and connectivity. Then there is the glue that brings this all together - digital menu board software.

Luckily today, there are plenty of software options that can help us create digital menu boards. But depending on which of those tools with different capacities we choose to work with, the scope of what we can offer on a digital menu board can vary to a great extent.

Intuiface, a multi-touch interactive experience creation platform, is the market leader in its space and thus represents the ideal characteristics of digital menu board software. It supports:real-time connection to diverse external data source

RealEyes Displays designed & Installed a 3-screen interactive digital signage video wall for Worker B.  When idle, the installation displays a beautiful slideshow. A tablet is used as a presentation tool and controller for the video wall. The Worker B counter attendant can find honey options on the tablet, and either look at product information or send the chosen honey to the screens.  One screen will show a product info panel, and the other will fly a bee over a live map to the honey origin. The 3rd screen can be controlled separately for other products such as skin creams, scrubs, t-shirts and more.  All info panels and product information is easily updated and synced to a mobile-responsive online account.

SMRT1’s interactive technology upgrades traditional vending machines with new touchscreen capabilities to create an interactive and educational shopping experience at any location. Users can freely browse and select from the menu and learn about each product. Cash, credit card or digital payment systems are integrated to the digital experience, enabling a seamless shopping experience.

This interactive digital display board for tables enables users to review the menu, order food and drinks, call a server, and pay at the table. In addition, the experience pulls in live news from the BBC as well as local weather. Online games are also built into the software, as well as an integrated particle engine that can be accessed while you are waiting. The tables are all linked to one network, permitting tables to communicate with each other via text.

To be fair, this example does not exhibit a full digital menu board. However the experience definitely deserves to be in our top 5 list because it demonstrates the vast potential of a digital menu board as a creative and interactive engagement tool.

This interactive self-service kiosk installed at Thai Chili 2 Go stores welcomes customers with a splash screen and an optional request for the customer’s name. Then a list of six category menu items is displayed, followed by a set of sub-categories after a request for selection. Once the customer selects an item, a modifier screen appears with options such as item replacement and the ability to add new items. Selecting the shopping cart leads to a coupon request and then instructions about payment. ZIVELO’s design added a lot of decision-making options to the user interface all along the customer’s self-ordering journey on touch screen menu boards..

Most modern television sets feature the ability to play images and videos from a USB flash drive (also known as jump-drive or thumb-drive). Simply plug a jump-drive of your content into the USB port of your TV to showcase your menu, photos, or even videos. Some TVs even allow your content to play on loop – an easy way to share a slideshow of content.

Ever wonder why some TVs are much, much cheaper than others – even though they may be the same size? TV manufacturers can create a range of models and slash prices by removing premium features. The ability for a TV to read and display content from a jump drive often falls under that “premium feature” umbrella. When considering displays for food service establishments, premium features that appeal to home consumers often don’t make sense. Your TV might have a USB port, but when you plug a jump drive in nothing happens… it means that your TV’s jump drive is there to provide power only.

You don’t need a fully functional USB port as long as your TV has an HDMI port. When plugged into your HDMI port the ‘Micca Speck 1080p Full-HD Ultra Portable Digital Media Player’ gives you a USB and more. If you’ve got an extra TV kicking around, I highly recommend this little device. Why? Because in 2020 I helped a customer set up 3 of these on used TVs – and it worked flawlessly. The Micca Speck is a cheap, powerful media player that can display multiple images and video formats in full 1080p HD. The player comes with a remote control and connects to your TV via HDMI cable. This device includes some noteworthy features such as an SD/SDHC memory card reader, USB port, automatic restart after a power failure, aluminum case exterior, and high-quality playback.

So, now you’re excited about creating a digital menu board or point of sale display… What do you need? 1) Any TV with an HDMI port. 2) The Micca Speck Digital Media Player. 3) A USB thumb drive loaded with the images/video you want to share.

Microsoft PowerPoint slides can be set to a default size of “1080p” or 1920×1080 (the same aspect ratio as most modern TV displays). Often 1920×1080 is already the default PowerPoint template size, if not you can change it.* Once you’ve created your menu simply “export” the slide as a jpeg image and copy it to your jump drive. Because the image is exported as 1920×1080 pixels your menu should display on your TV exactly how it appeared in PowerPoint.

Of course, you can use any application you’re comfortable with to create your digital menu artwork. And there are many more methods, services, and devices you could utilize to display your electronic signage… this one just happens to follow one of my favorite business strategies – highly effective and inexpensive.

If you’re already having your menus designed and printed by an outside company, a tv-ready digital version of your menu could be just a conversation away.
