LC displays (LCD) have a well-defined isotropic or operating temperature limit, above which the actual liquid crystal molecules will lose their orientation and will assume a random orientation instead of ‘twisting’ through the light valve.

The site goes on to note that temperatures above 100°C (212°F) can permanently damage the coating on LCD displays, though Samsung claims that storing your display at temperatures above 45°C (113°F) can damage it, so it"s possible that Vartech"s 100°C threshold is specifically a property of their ruggedized displays.

Imagine logging in to your laptop to attend a mandatory ZOOM meeting but only coming across a full black screen. Or suppose you are almost done with a project, but before you click ‘Save,’ the screen goes black. You would have a mini heart attack. You don’t know if your work is safe or when you will be able to deliver it. You are sitting there helpless desperation, with nothing but a bunch of questions.

Another issue for the screen going black is overheating. Overheating can cause your laptop to shut down when it overheats, or it may only turn off the display by cutting off power to the GPU (graphic processing unit). Your laptop might be overheating because of dust and debris build-up on the fan, heat vents, or sink. Get your laptop cleaned by a professional to resolve this issue.

Even if your screen is black, listen carefully to see if your laptop is making any booting sounds. However, this is only possible if you have a computer with a traditional hard drive instead of a newer computer model with an SSD and no other drives as they are silent during a normal boot.

If your laptop boots up fine, but the screen instantly goes black or blank after you log in, then there may be some issue with its operating system. An indication that the operating system is not loading properly or has a fault is that the screen will be blank except for the mouse cursor. One of the causes may be a corrupt system file that may be preventing the operating system from loading. Restart your computer to see if it is a temporary issue that can be resolved with a reboot. However, if the issue is still there, then erase your hard drive or reinstall Windows.

An issue with the graphics card can also cause a black screen. Connect a monitor or some other type of display to the laptop. If the external display works fine, then there is an issue with your laptop’s display. However, if the external monitor also doesn’t work, then either the cable is defective, or you need to get the motherboard or graphics card replaced.

If the screen’s picture is only partially visible, check to see if the laptop’s brightness is set to low or is being turned to a low because of a power-saving setting. Plug your laptop on for charging to make sure your laptop is not in the power saving mode; if not, try increasing the brightness.

Take your laptop to a reliable repair shop or call an expert to investigate and fix whatever the issue maybe that is causing your laptop screen to go black.

Might be normal for some, but it is not normal for all LCD displays. The LCD on the AC directly below the radio is not effected at all by heat. Between my wife and I we"ve owned 7 cars since moving to Arizona, plus I"ve changed the head units in 3 or 4 of those. None of those have had any kind of display problem at all. I"d say that makes this BMW unit somewhat unique.

Whilst the phone was on charge overnight the phone had overheated and the screen had cracked due to the heat; the screen was replaced a few months ago and I feel as I have been let down by Sony due to the many problems with the phone. The microphone is quiet when you are using it to make a call and the receiver can"t hear you that well. The headphone jack is also loose and the left channel is quieter than the right. I would like a replacement Z5 Premium due to the number of issues I have had. Due to the phone not functioning properly I have been unable to respond to important calls and sms.

The phone had overheated and the screen had cracked (see pictures below). Upon sending the phone in for repair and the worst repair agent SBE has deemed it out of warranty and they have raised a quotation for a new LCD which I would have to pay for even though the phone had overheated. I had placed a glass screen protector which had not cracked but I had removed it prior to sending it in.

Canon 5dm3. I use a glass LCD screen protector. There were rumors that RAW caused over-heating. Should I be worried about the camera heating up, and the LCD baking because the glass protector insulated it?
