----------------Color gamut"Color gamut" represents the range of colors that can be displayed using combinations of red, green, and blue subpixels. Certain monitors must emulate the colors (by dithering or frame rate control (FRC)) to display the full 24-bit of today"s graphics adapters.

Black level (darkness of the color black)LCDs require a source of light to display an image. Most today use cold cathode fluorescent lights (CCFLs), while more expensive ones use LED. With either technology, the crystals have a hard time blocking the light. How well they can do this is quantized by the black level. This measures how many nits (candelas per square meter) are emitted when black is displayed. Lower the better for black. For white, you"d want the highest value possible. The low black and the high white brightness values will produce a high-contrast display, and that"s what you"re looking for in terms of colors.

3.Aspect Ratios and Resolutions----------------------------------------------------Aspect ratio is a proportion representing width divided by height. Common aspect ratios are listed below.5:4 (1280x1024 for 17" and 19"): Squarest of all the listed, thus maximum area.4:3 (1600x1200 for 20.1")16:10 (1680x1050 for 20.1", 1920x1200 for 24"): Resolution of most "widescreen" monitors16:9 (1280x720, 1920x1080): True widescreen. No LCD monitors that I know of incorporate this HDTV resolution with one exception, this Westinghouse 37", but this is more of a TV due to its size. 16:10 is the commonly used one for monitors because it"s a good compromise between productivity (Word documents anyone?) and movie watching.

4.Technologies--------------------------Overdrive (Response Time Accelerator)Most commonly called ClearMotiv (ViewSonic), MagicSpeed (Samsung), Over Driving Circuit (LG.Philips LCD), and Response Time Compensation (X-Bit Labs). All of the above technologies bump the voltage to increase the speed of the transition (among other things in the case of ClearMotiv). When it goes too far (an overshoot, rated as unsafe under "ADCC" under recommendations), there can be noise, especially noticeable in subtle transitions or the dithering of TN panels. Tom"s Hardware Guide does however have a rating for this overshoot phenomenon. X-Bit Labs has also *****ed down on it in their recent reviews.

"Widescreen" (16:10 AR)Usually widescreen means 16:9, but LCD monitor manufacturers use the moniker widescreen to refer to a 16:10 ratio instead, a compromise between desktop real estate and movie watching. While it may sound great at first, there are a lot of things to consider. Is widescreen all it"s *****ed up to be?

The main problem with widescreen is the resolution itself. As you may know, LCDs can not change their resolution without a loss of quality, and most of the time it"s a significant loss of clarity. CRTs can do this much better because they inherently have a Gaussian distribution of the pixels, and in the end it yields much better quality. Think of it like analog zoom vs. digital zoom.

This means in order to get a good image on a widescreen monitor, you must run it at its native resolution, or deal with black bars on the edges. I"d say 75% of today"s games still require you to edit a configuration file manually to achieve the widescreen resolution. Fortunately, many people have already done the grunt work for you. X-Brite/OptiClear/Acer CrystalBriteThese are special contrast-increasing coatings. Note, Samsung"s MagicBright/MagicColor and BenQ"s SensEye are not necessarily related to these, they are internal panel technologies. Anyhow, many people prefer the higher contrast of these coatings and say they look beautiful. One small note of concern is they could increase glare, but that"ll depend on your light. It probably still won"t be as bad as a CRT in that regard (glare).

HDCPHigh-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection. Supposedly, this will be mandatory for playing High-Def Windows Media DRM on Windows Vista, and possibly Blu-Ray/HD-DVD players. You won"t need it to boot into Windows though. HDCP can be used through the DVI port or through the HDMI port. It"s hardly anything to worry about for computer monitors (very few have it), but you should definitely consider it for TVs.----------------------

5."Ghosting"----------------------Maybe you"ve looked at LCDs before, and find the colors great, the viewing angles good, but one thing you are especially worried about with your future purchase is the response time. There"s a fundamental problem in explaining how good or bad the level of ghosting is. This may be the only way I can relate it to you: if you"ve ever used an aperture grille CRT and seen its faint lines but still love it regardless, the same thing will probably happen to you with response time.

Obviously the first week you get it, that"s the first thing you"re going to look for, because for most gamers it"s the obvious disadvantage. So you bring your LCD home, plug it in and play some Battlefield 2 on it, then turn around a bit, and you can see some smearing. At that point, you"re probably already thinking of returning it and thinking you"ll never be able to live with it. In reality, once you take your focus off scrutinizing the ghosting and start playing your game, you will find it to be an extremely small obstruction, if it is any problem at all. In the end, that"s all that matters. It"s also worth noting some people may not even be able to see it if they look for it. Unless you have a panel with an atrocious response time like 25ms. (min), then it will be a minor issue. That said there are some people who may be especially sensitive to it.---------------------------------------------------

Bigger is betterWhen you compare a 17" to a 19" which both have a 5:4 1280x1024 resolution, the 19" only has bigger dot pitch. This means your display will be grainier in general, though text will be bigger for the visually-impaired. Unfortunately, manufacturers are mostly only spending R&D on 19" panels nowadays, and some are even cheaper than their 17" counterparts.------------------------------------

8.Color Reproduction------------------------------------6-bit LCDs can truly only produce 262,144 colors ((2^6)^3). Thus they must implement a dithering or frame rate control technique to simulate up to 16.7 million colors. These techniques still don"t reproduce colors as good as 8-bit panels that don"t use the dithering. More primitive forms of dithering can only reach 16.2 million colors (253^3=16,194,277). True 8-bit PVA and IPS panel LCDs can produce 16,777,216 (16.7 million) real colors ((2^8)^3). And to recap: not all PVA and IPS panels are driven by "true" 8-bit electronics, so they could still use dithering! As another precaution, LCDs do tend to have problems reproducing skin/subtle tones vibrantly.----------------------------------

9.Recommendations----------------------------------Ranks are based on #1 being BEST LCD (in terms of the specified category), regardless of price. Below each section is a list of panels best suited for that purpose. A bracket indicates an optional feature (you will still be happy without the feature). Recommended LCDs have a strong foundation of favorable reviews.

Notes: Replaces the VP191b. A vast quantity of these monitors have mild backlighting issues ("X" shaped) including mine. Most people like theirs regardless. Great, vibrant, saturated colors, however it does employ dithering.

Notes: Black bezel is 20WMGX2-BK. OptiClear contrast coating (increases contrast but also worsens glare). Exceptional colors with dynamic contrast, great viewing angles, extremely good response time (good as fastest TNs) according to hardware.fr. Tons of inputs. Without a doubt, worth the money. Great warranty/service. Maximum speed+maximum colors!

Note: This is if you work professionally as a graphics designer, have a huge budget, and need picture-perfect colors. You do not need these by any means for casual off-and-on photo editing! For affordable consumer photo editing, look for other S-IPS/S-PVA panel LCDs.

10.Problem-prone LCD"s----------------------------------------Note: these issues (all of them AFAIK) may only apply for a certain batch or exist in rare quantities so it"s hard not to recommend them when there"s no suitable replacement.

When you scroll around windows there is an orange color trailing the fonts and borders! Meist teils funktioniert es doch stürzt ab und zu ab, und nach einem Absturz kann nur noch ein Neustart helfen (hilft aber nicht immer). In der Zeit haben alle Programme keinen Internet, außer von meinem Standart Browser „opera“. Pretty Boy was awarded the decision but, to this day, there are many who believe the Mexican deserved the nod. In a rematch eight months later, Mayweather learned from his mistakes and won more convincingly, but it did nothing to diminish Castillo’s standing as one of the great lightweights of his time. Born in Empalme, Sonora, half way down the coast of the Gulf of California, Castillo served his apprenticeship in the notoriously punishing environs of Mexicali and Tijuana.He accepted the moniker, El Temible. meaning the fearsome one, and in knocking out 17 of 18 featherweight opponents while still only a teenager, he did his best to live up to the nickname.By the time he was 24 he had lost a few cracks at national titles but everything in life is relative and, such is the strength in depth in the country, there is no shame finishing second in a contest to be the best Mexican in any weight class below 140lbs. But Chico was only 25 and a perceived injustice at how the particulars of his conviction had played out in the media and affected his family ensured a fire fuelled by dreams of revenge and redemption still raged within.He walked straight back into the gym, reeled off four stoppage wins in less than five months, and then collided head on with the Cuban, Casamayor, in a fireworks display in the Mandalay Bay Casino. These were two massive lightweights in every sense of the word and neither possessed a reverse gear. Having never been down in 59 contests, Castillo’s chin was thought to be impenetrable while Corrales was widely regarded as one of the pound-for-pound hardest punchers in boxing.The American was on record as saying he would go through hell and die in the ring before quitting, while Castillo was both blessed and cursed with the grit in his soul that is a prerequisite of all great Mexican fighters. With two such ferrous wills to win colliding, something or nothing or everything had to give.Both understood implicitly that in boxing, as in life, you often have to take before you can give. And what they prized more than anything was the glory bestowed on those fighting men who leave it all in the ring and give the fans a night about which all in attendance can later boast: I was there. There are no guarantees in boxing but if the styles of any two fighters could be relied upon to blend together into a perfect cocktail of action, heart and skill, it was Corrales and Castillo. The opening round set the tone but was not without its subtle surprises.The Mexican was more renowned for roughhouse tactics but as both combatants sought to seize the initiative the rangier Corrales showed he was just as prepared to mix it up on the inside with low blows, forearms and rabbit punches. In response the partisan crowd let loose with the first chants of “Ka-Stee-Yo! Ka-Stee-Yo!” When referee Tony Weeks stepped in at the bell, they were already slugging toe-to-toe.They spent the second even closer together. It was said that Corrales’ own father feared for his son against the heavier more rugged Castillo, and Chico now looked to be proving a point. With a height advantage of two and a half inches, the American should have been boxing at distance, controlling the space with a stiff jab, and making room to leverage the power his famous long arms could generate.Instead, he burrowed in close and brawled, apparently content to trade trenchant hooks until someone landed a big one. Perhaps it was a private message to his old man: you shouldn’t have doubted me after that fifth knockdown against Mayweather, dad, and you shouldn’t be doubting me now. I’m tougher than all these guys. While Castillo had famously never been decked in 15 years, Corrales had already climbed off the canvas eight times in his professional career. It may have been the work of Corrales’ slashing right hands but it was ruled an accidental head butt, meaning that if the blood flow caused a stoppage from the fifth onwards, we would go to the scorecards. Corrales was by now occasionally taking a step back to open up the fight and snap off a couple of jabs before swinging for the fences, but they were mere fleeting digressions from the attritional infighting that was dominating the battle. Success from these close-quarter exchanges were being evenly shared as they took it in turns to land first or hardest.A flurry from Castillo at the end of the sixth probably won him the round and had a young Julio César Chávez Jr bouncing jubilantly beside his father four rows back. Corrales roared back in a seventh as an inflating bubble of purple flesh on his cheekbone threatened to swell his left eye shut. Perhaps spurred on by the sudden dwindling of his vision, he landed a sweet left in the dying embers of the round that caused Castillo to involuntarily curtsy in recognition. The brutal intensity continued to build throughout the eighth and ninth rounds as we all began to wonder where this fight was taking us. It didn’t so much ebb and flow as violently hurl itself from one corner to another.When one man was wobbled or buzzed, he always seemed to instinctively unleash an immediate juddering reply to prevent his foe gaining the momentum a clean hit normally affords. At a time when lassitude ought to have been taking its toll, there was simply no let up. More than that, the accuracy and ferocity of the attacks endured unabated. Each round was an incessant show of quality and commitment, totally devoid of any hint of the trumpery that other fighters employ to steal a second or two of respite when the pace suddenly ups. The standing ovations that greeted every concluding bell kept growing in volume and duration.When they rose for the tenth, Corrales’ right eye was now also beginning to swell out of view, while his left had become little more than a diaphanous slit. As the referee checked the tape on Castillo’s gloves, Corrales, as was his custom, blessed himself. The two men then touched gloves, something they had not done habitually at the beginning of the previous nine rounds: looking back it is almost as if they knew. Ten seconds in, a short electric left that Corrales probably suspected was designed for his temple kept low and caught him flush on the chin to send him down in instalments.The punch took mere milliseconds to throw but a full three seconds more were needed for his crumpled body to complete the journey to the canvas. From bowed head, he dropped to a knee. From that knee he toppled sideways on to a supporting elbow. There, his centre of gravity continued ricocheting around his core and the reverberations rolled him on to the flat of his stomach. From this position he spat out his gum shield, rose as far as his two knees, glanced at his corner, and then focused on the referee’s count.At eight, he stood up. “Do you want to continue?” Weeks asked him.The question was as good as rhetorical. Corrales’ trainer, Joe Goossen, did his best to buy a few extra recovery seconds by prevaricating with the mouthpiece as the ref implored him to reinsert it, but he was surely merely delaying the inevitable. An impassive Castillo, the only calm Mexican in the house, stood patiently in the neutral corner. He could see that Corrales had gone. Ten seconds later Corrales fell again, another slow collapse on to the ring floor the result of a couple of left hooks and a right uppercut through a now faltering guard.His gloved fist fumbled to again remove his gum shield, a gesture that in another fighter would have signalled that he had had enough. When Corrales turned, there was a discernible change in his countenance.It wasn’t that the weariness had dissipated, but he somehow managed to muster a spark to light where before the deleterious effects of the knockdowns had caused only darkness. Then, out of nowhere, he landed a right hook that jolted Castillo.A left then pushed the Mexican back on the ropes, where they continued to plough into one another with renewed purpose. One way or another they were going to end this now. A banging right and a couple more cuffing lefts shunted Castillo to an adjacent side of the ring.
