Is this not the cutest, little display for the Raspberry Pi? It features a 3.5" display with 480x320 16-bit color pixels and a resistive touch overlay so it is slightly larger than the Raspberry Pi board, which is perfect to cover it. The plate uses a high-speed SPI interface on the Pi and can use the mini display as a console, X window port, displaying images or video, etc. Best of all it plugs right on top nicely covering the Raspberry Pi board. Single power from Raspberry Pi is sufficient to operate the screen. As it uses the SPI and Power pin from Raspberry Pi"s GPIO, it is nicely stacked on the RPi board. The EVE chip really makes this TFT module really shine. EVE (embedded video engine) is a cool new technology from FTDI/Bridgetek that simplifies the process of displaying videos and text in an embedded project. All display, touch sensing, backlight, and audio features are controlled by the FTDI FT810 EVE which appears to host the MCU as a memory-mapped SPI device. The host MCU sends commands and data over the SPI protocol. The module can support both SPI and Quad-SPI.
The 15-inch 1024 x 768 LCD panel is a TFT active type digital to digital which connects to the on board video. It comes with a standard 15-pin VGA connector on the back of the panel pc for the external display. The resistive type touch screen is mounted on the front of the LCD panel and uses a 5-wire connection to the on-board COM port (standard on COM-3). The touch screen provides protection for the LCD panel and is sealed around the front panel housing to prevent water and dust (IP65 rated) from entering.
