I notice that I only have a /dev/fb0 and I am lacking the /dev/fb1 file. $FRAMEBUFFER is set to /dev/fb1 so that must be the issue, but I am unsure how to configure the PiTFT as /dev/fb1.

I was able to get it working with a fresh Jessie and then following the "Detailed Install" on the adafruit site. They must have updated their kernel. Thanks all!

Depending on your display stand, you might find that the LCD display defaults to being upside-down. You can fix this by rotating it with /boot/config.txt.

If some windows in X are cut off at the side/bottom of the screen, this is unfortunately a side-effect of developers assuming a minimum screen resolution of 1024x768 pixels.

You may need to increase the amount of memory allocated to the GPU to 128MB if the videos are 1080P. Adjust the gpu_mem value in config.txt for this. The Raspberry Pi headline figures are 1080P30 decode, so if you are using two 1080P clips it may not play correctly depending on the complexity of the videos.

The TFT isn’t ‘plug & play’ with the Raspberry, a patch has to be applied to the kernel to be able to interface via SPI with the ST7735R controller chip on the TFT. Once working, the display will act as a framebuffer device.

I am currently running Raspbian on Raspberry Pi 4 model B.And I have a 3.5 inch tft screen.I do not no what driver I have. I got it through my terminal from the github. The Odroid display is not only a viable alternative, it also have several advantages over its PI counterpart:Since it takes power from USB and video signal from HDMI, it can be used virtually with any Computer with an HDMI output, not just the Odroid or the Raspberry PI.

UPDATE: Lot of time since I published the original article. The Odroid 7” does not seem to work properly with Raspberry PI (not tested with the Odroid). So, if you’re looking for a display for the Raspberry PI, get the official one.

The Waveshare 7” display has become rapidly a widely adopted display, thanks to its cheap price. However this particular touchscreen has shown several reliability issues (altough this seems fixed in latest models, thanks to a firmware update), it requires a particular touchscreen driver which is not always included in major distros and its colour reproduction is not the best.

Many home automation systems have been developed for, or ported to, the Raspberry Pi -- enough for their own list. Not all of these feature a touchscreen display, however.

One that does is the Makezine project below, that hooks up a Raspberry Pi running OpenHAB, an open source home automation system that can interface with hundreds of smart home products. Our own guide shows how you can use it to control some smart lighting. OpenHAB comes with several user interfaces. However, if they"re not your cup of tea, an LCARS UI theme is available.

Another great build, and the one we"re finishing on, is a Raspberry Pi-powered tablet computer. The idea is simple: place the Pi, the touchscreen display, and a rechargeable battery pack into a suitable case (more than likely 3D printed). You might opt to change the operating system; Raspbian Jessie with PIXEL (nor the previous desktop) isn"t really suitable as a touch-friendly interface. The pitft helper program will not work on Kali 2.0.X due to it being Sana (Debian Jessie, I think) and the helper was made only to work on Whezzy. There are also several packages that are need to be installed but not in the default repository.

Thank you very much for the hint with "hdmi_cvt"! For some reason that was also required for my 7" display to use the correct resolution although it was simply connected through HDMI. Without it, it just cut about 20% of the right side and it wasn"t overscan.

Well, this didn"t work for me. Just like you I have 2.8 piTFT display and I am trying to switch it over to HDMI output for now and then switch again to the PiTFT display. No matter what I do Rasberry PI only sends the output to the PiTFT display not the monitor.

I know in some of the PI"s OS, set resolution option is available. I have a Pi running Jessie and it doesn"t have set resolution option. What should I do?

follow my lead. In the link, http://elinux.org/RPiconfig when you search for Video options, you"ll also get hdmi_group and hdmi_mode. For, hdmi_group choose 1 if you"re using you TV as an video output or choose 2 for monitors. Then in hdmi_mode, you can select the resolution you want from the list.
