Samsung Display has left a big enough gap in the LCD TV panel market which will quickly be filled by Chinese and Taiwanese companies. More specifically, CSOT from China and AUO from Taiwan are expected to increase their market share by supplying LCD TV panels to Samsung Electronics. The latter got 1/3rd of the LCD panels from Samsung Display last year. CSOT is one of the usual suspects because it has previous...

According to TrendForce, Samsung Display"s exit from the LCD market will cause a "major reshuffle". While 2019 was marked by an oversupply of display panels resulting in a significant drop in panel prices, this year is marked by the lowered demand in most end products due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Samsung Display"s plans to exit the LCD market by the end of the year brings further uncertainty. Currently, the company...

Digitimes cites a survey from Sigmaintell Consulting, according to which, half a million 8K TV panels will be shipped in 2020. The wider adoption of 8K panels is limited mainly by their prices because they are twice as high as those of 4K panels. If the price gap narrows down to 1.3 times, then a wider penetration will be expected. Currently, Samsung, AUO, Sharp and BOE have announced 8K panels, and China Star...

While there are many different manufacturers of LCD monitors, the panels themselves are actually only manufactured by a relatively small selection of companies. The three main manufacturers tend to be Samsung, AU Optronics and LG.Display (previously LG.Philips), but there are also a range of other companies like Innolux and CPT which are used widely in the market. Below is a database of all the current panel modules manufactured in each size. These show the module number along with important information including panel technology and a detailed spec. This should provide a detailed list of panels used, and can give you some insight into what is used in any given LCD display.

Note:These are taken from manufacturer product documentation and panel resource websites. Specs are up to date to the best of our knowledge, and new panels will be added as and when they are produced. Where gaps are present, the detail is unknown or not listed in documentation. The colour depth specs are taken from the manufacturer, and so where they specify FRC and 8-bit etc, this is their listing. Absence of such in the table below does not necessarily mean they aren’t using FRC etc, just that this is how the manufacturer lists the spec on their site.

LG Display (CEO Kwon Young-soo) begins the manufacturing of 23-inch, 240Hz LCD (liquid crystal display) monitor panels. Leaving no afterimage by showing 240 pictures a second, the panel can be used for both monitors and TVs. With the product, the company expects to enjoy some early-mover effect in the premium monitor and small-sized TV markets. Fast-response panels at or over 240Hz have been adopted by 40-inch or larger-screen LCD TVs. Those for 23-inch products are for the first time in the world. LG combined the 120Hz technology with the technique of scanning backlight for sequentially-controlling the LCD light source and succeeded in doubling the number of images transmitted each second. Four times faster than ordinary 60Hz monitors, the panel eliminates afterimages and lessens optical fatigue.

The company AU Electronics introduced a 4k240 screen with an 85" diagonal at a press conference. The panel has not yet been posted on the AUO"s website. The manufacturer does not disclose many specifics, other than the fact that the screen will have a variable refresh rate capability. It offers a 96 percent of the color space defined by DCI-P3. In addition, HDR support is included. In terms of refresh rate, this 4k panel with 240Hz refresh rate may be the first 4k panel to feature such a rate.

AU Optronics will eventually make the future 85" panel available to clients so that they can use it as a basis for their own panels, although the specific date of when this will happen is uncertain.

LG has announced a new 45-inch ultrawide OLED gaming monitor with a refresh rate of 240Hz. The company is calling the UltraGear 45GR95QE its “first curved OLED display with a 240Hz refresh rate,” which is notable at a time when most OLED displays (including those with flat panels) are still capped at 120Hz. The company is yet to announce pricing or a release date for the monitor, but plans to show it off at IFA in Berlin next month.

Having a higher refresh rate means a display appears smoother and less juddery, and video games feel more responsive to play — especially when combined with OLED’s near-instantaneous response times. Until recently it was rare to find an OLED display with a refresh rate of over 120Hz, but that’s changed in recent months. YouTube channel HDTVTest reported in May that Samsung’s S95B QD-OLED TV had become the first OLED TV to support a 144Hz refresh rate (albeit unofficially), while Alienware’s AW3423DW monitor, which also uses a QD-OLED panel from Samsung Display, goes all the way up to 175Hz.

Now, however, we’re seeing OLED displays emerge that go all the way up to 240Hz. HDTVTest reported earlier this month that the MSI GE67 HX laptop features the world’s first 240Hz OLED display, and Razer has also announced a 240Hz OLED laptop of its own. Just this week we also saw Corsair announce a 240Hz OLED monitor, although the fact that it can be manually bent into a curved monitor stole some attention away from its high refresh rate.

While the refresh rates of OLED panels are improving, they still trail far behind what LCD is capable of. LCD panels with 360Hz refresh rates are becoming increasingly common, and earlier this year we saw the first 500Hz Nvidia G-Sync gaming display announced by Asus.

But I don"t see the point of paying Dough more than LG for the same panel, as the LG screen is "only" $999, with a stand.also, anyone outside the US would have serious problems with warranty. Imagine sending that thing back. $99.00 shipping back and forth. LG has local support.

But I don"t see the point of paying Dough more than LG for the same panel, as the LG screen is "only" $999, with a stand. It may cost $100 more because it technically does have better connectivity options than the LG. Two USB-C inputs (1 which is 100W, the other is normal upstream), 2 USB-C outputs, along with the two USB-A. It also has PIP, PBP and the integer upscaler.

But I don"t see the point of paying Dough more than LG for the same panel, as the LG screen is "only" $999, with a stand.Ah but dear lost person, it is not the same panel. Either they are buying a higher specced LG panel that can drive 450 nits vs the 200 nits that the $999 LG monitor can display, or they are attaching a heatsink (or even a beefier one) to the panel to dissipate the additional heat to drive the additional 250 nits. The fact that LG "only" states that their OLED does HDR10 without any certification leaves no doubt that 200nits on the LG site is their peak brightness. Being vague about your products specs usually means its not all that good.

And what about the lack of stand you ask? For starters, glossy panels are not mass produced yet, if you are still lost here you should know that the entire world uses matte monitors. Hence to begin with they are already using a different, more expensive panel than LG due to the fact its a niche glossy OLED within the OLED niche within the monitor niche within the gaming niche, no need to even look at the above fact to figure out if they are using the same LG panel or not. Its a different panel. Period.

Also, I am not advocating for this company, I am well aware of their reputation. However, you all are complaining about the price, which is already highly justified by the different, better panel that they use, and the extra features they put for their target market. If you all are talking about a different company or brand, I will argue all the same.

Just went to their website. Their other model is a 4K 144Hz panel, same price. That would be the one I"d go for, unless the colour rendering was off. It"s OLED, hence the price.

@thewan you apparently have issues reading.A 27-inch QHD OLED panel from LG DisplayPlease note that you"re on my ignore list, so just stop bugging me, ok?

thewanThe fact that LG "only" states that their OLED does HDR10 without any certification leaves no doubt that 200nits on the LG site is their peak brightness. The lack of any certifications is probably because this monitor, like all WOLED panels I know of, cannot hit the required 250 nits full field for DisplayHDR 400 True Black.

give us some 4k options with DP2 and up, and true 10bit no frc nice stand etc etcdont want 4k on 27" while yes for productivity I want true 10Bit panel.
