The project is a speed checker system that can detect rash driving and any kind of speed violation on highways and alert the traffic authorities. The conventional system uses a handheld radar gun which is aimed at the vehicle to record its speed and if there is any speed violation, nearest police station is informed. This process involves a lot of time consumption. Hence the proposed system is used to check the speed by calculating the time taken to travel between two set points at certain distance.
An IR transmitter and a receiver are installed on the set points on either side of the road. A control unit calculates the time taken by the vehicle to travel from one set point to other and calculates the speed that is displayed on seven segment display. If the calculated speed limit exceeds the set speed, a buzzer is sound which alerts the road transport authority.
I appreciate your speed delivery of the components and all the other materials provided, but some of the components provided are not working. We assembled the circuit and started its testing and later we came to know that the adapter was not working. So I just feel that I have wasted my money. Now the circuit too is not working. I don"t know what to do with it as I have a presentation to give on this project. I want my money back, whatever the adapter"s charge is, or atleast compensation.

So we bring you a project which can help you to detect the speed of the vehicles easily and automatically. This is a very simple project and not costly. You just need on a microcontroller like Arduino Uno and two IR sensors to detect the speed of the vehicles. This project will help you to detect the speed of a moving car easily without any human intervention by simply placing it somewhere on the road. This project is just a prototype and can be implemented on a large scale.
Arduino is an open-source platform which is used to develop an electronics project. It can be easily programmed, erased and reprogrammed at any instant of the time. There are many Arduino boards available in the market like Arduino UNO, Arduino Nano, Arduino Mega, Arduino lilypad, etc with having different specification according to their use. In this project, we are going to use Arduino UNO to control home appliances automatically. It has ATmega328 microcontroller IC on it which runs on 16MHz clock speed. It is a powerful which can work on USART, I2C and SPI communication protocols.
This board is usually programmed using software Arduino IDE using a micro USB cable. ATmega328 comes with preprogrammed onboard boot loader which makes it easier to upload the code without the help on external hardware. It has vast application in making electronics projects or products. The C and C++ language is used to program the board which is very easy to learn and use. Arduino IDE makes it much easier to program. It separates the code in two parts i.e. void setup () and void loop (). The function void setup() runs only one time and used for mainly initiating some process whereas void loop() consists the part of the code which should be executed continuously.
Basically, interrupts helps us to make our system more responsive to time-sensitive tasks. A processor doing a normal execution can be interrupted by some sensor to execute a particular process that is present in ISR (Interrupt Service Routine) and after executing the ISR processor can again resume the normal execution. For instance in this project whenever the IR sensor will detect any car then it will trigger an interrupt to the Arduino UNO will immediately stop all its process and will signal detection of the object or car by the IR sensor.
IR Sensor module comes with 3 pins, two of them are VCC and Ground and one is the digital output pins which activate when it detects some obstacle. This pin goes to GPIO pin to either GPIO pin or interrupts pin on the microcontroller. In this project, we will be using two IR sensors to detect the speed of the car. These are to be connected to the two different interrupt pins on the Arduino UNO which further will be used to detect the time of the distance covered between two IR sensors.
IR sensor is the main part of this project as it is used to detect when a car is passed through it. When a car passes the 1st IR sensor, it detects and sends an interrupt signal to the microcontroller. Now we calculate the time till the car reaches the IR sensor 2. The difference of both the time is the travel distance from one sensor to the other. We get the time in which car travels a distance of 30 centimeters so we can calculate the speed of the car. Since it is just a prototype and we are using toy cars, therefore, we are taking distance as 30 centimeters. Now we can set any parameter for over speeding of the car. For instance, if the speed of the car is more than 60 m/sec then it displays over speeding on the serial monitor.
The ir1 and ir2 are the external interrupt pins used on the Arduino Uno. T, T1, and T2 are the variables to calculate the time. Since for this project we are placing the two IR sensors at a distance of 30 centimeters, therefore, we have taken distance as 30 to calculate speed.
T1 is the time of for detecting car by IR sensor 1 and T2 is the time for detecting IR sensor 2. The difference in both the time is the time taken to travel the distance between two IR sensors.
This was the prototype of the calculating over speeding of the car. This idea can be implemented on roads by using real cars and increasing the distance between the two IR sensors. This project can be used to capture the speed of the vehicles without any human involvement. Also, it can be used in traffic logger, traffic counter and many more traffic-related applications.

I am following up on my use of HUDWAY Drive. I have finally had a chance to install and use it for a couple of weeks. It does work awesome! I love the navigation and the OBD connection is great. The only issue I have had deals with the mounting of the Drive.
I"ve seen reviews where people say that the brightness is not enough during daytime compared to factory installed HUD. This could be right compared to some ultra-bright HUDs but the brightness of the HUDWAY Drive is perfect during daytime. Also I really like that the lens is a bit yellowish – usually the yellow color is easier on the eyes. Even my dioptric glasses have a "driver" tint which is yellow. Thus this tint would soften any blue light coming from the HUDWAY Drive"s display and then night driving would be easier on the eye.
I just wanted to leave some feedback on my HUDWAY Drive now that I have spent about a month with it. Let me first say I think this is a fantastic 3rd party HUD. It is super easy to use. The ability to customize is great. Really crisp, bright display. I think the only change I would make is to add the ability to rotate it slightly in the base. This would account for slightly different seating positions, or a slightly off mounting allowing the image to always be centered on the screen regardless of your sight line. I really do enjoy this device, and being able to see everything pop up on the screen is a real godsend while driving. Great job by the entire team there. Thanks!

I have not connected the audio cable, but the my phone connects to my stereos (the two cars are a 2016 Škoda Superb and a 2006 Audi A4 2.0Tdi Convertible with an aftermarket Pioneer stereo) and I therefore get turn commands through the stereo, overriding the music playing from the phone. Really pleased.

At present, it appears that I have to go into the app and disconnect from one before getting into the other car. It would be a lot easier if you were able to get the app to pair with and look for more than one unit – and connect to it when it finds it.

I only trust the OBD-II sensor data since it is reading directly from my vehicle with wheel diameter taken into account. GPS estimates are only okay when you don"t have a way to obtain more accurate readings. I"d likely get a speeding ticket if I relied on GPS estimates.

As I said before, I find it especially useful on longer trips. It helps a lot. I was able to integrate it with my car, so I can also use the touch screen to control the phone. When I plug the unit to the car via USB, the car reports that it has found a device, but I am not able to connect or to control it. It does not matter, when I connect the phone I get CarPlay control over the phone and the information on the HUD, which is perfectly fine.
I have an OBD-II reader that lets me view my vehicle speed per the respective sensors. I"ve compared it with the speed detection devices used by law enforcement and have found the OBD-II estimate very accurate. My vehicle"s speedometer reads about 5 MPH faster than I"m actually traveling and GPS estimates are often 3-5 MPH slower than I"m actually traveling. I only trust the OBD-II sensor data since it is reading directly from my vehicle with wheel diameter taken into account. GPS estimates are only okay when you don"t have a way to obtain more accurate readings. I"d likely get a speeding ticket if I relied on GPS estimates.
It will for the vast majority of vehicles (including trucks and right-hand drive vehicles), but a few models have too slanted a windshield for HUDWAY Drive to fit in with its lens opened at its full 90°.
**There a few widgets in the app that become available when you plug the enclosed OBD-2 scanner to your car OBD-2 port and connect it to HUDWAY Drive. You can use your own Bluetooth scanner if you like, just make sure it"s an ELM327-based one.

In an automobile, an electronic instrument cluster, digital instrument panel or digital dash for short, is a set of instrumentation, including the speedometer, that is displayed with a digital readout rather than with the traditional analog gauges. Many refer to it either simply as a digital speedometer or a digital instrument cluster.
The first application of an electronic instrument cluster, in a production automobile, was in the 1976 Aston Martin Lagonda. The first American manufacturer application was the 1978 Cadillac Seville with available Cadillac Trip Computer. In the United States they were an option in many motor vehicles manufactured in the 1980s and 1990s, and were standard on some luxury vehicles at times, including some models made by Cadillac, Chrysler and Lincoln. They included not only a speedometer with a digital readout, but also a trip computer that displayed factors like the outdoor temperature, travel direction, fuel economy and distance to empty (DTE). In 1983, the Renault 11 Electronic was the first European hatchback to have a digital dashboard.Oldsmobile Toronado, Buick Riviera and Buick Reatta.
When accelerating, digital speedometers generally step through a freeze frame of whole numbers at a constant sample rate. It is as precise as the number displaced, whereas a gauged speedometer pointer could sweep through an infinite range between its major markings at 10 mph or 20 km/h intervals. The latter provides a sense of continuous acceleration albeit with less precision: a gauge reading could only be estimated to the pointer"s nearest halfway point between the markings.
As a result of these issues, digital instrument panels were phased out of vehicles throughout the 1990s, and have been replaced with traditional analog gauges in most vehicles (with notable exceptions from French manufacturers Renault and Citroën), including those from luxury divisions. However, many vehicles are made today with a standard or optional trip computer located independently from the speedometer.
Digital units received information from a variety of sensors installed throughout the engine and transmission, while traditional analog units were attached to a cable that provided information from the transmission. Modern analog displays receive information in the same manner as the digital units, with very few manufacturers still using the speedometer cable method.
Most digital speedometers have had green numbers displayed on a dark green or black background. The 8th and 9th generation Honda Civic have a "two-tier" instrument panel. The upper digital dashboard with white numbers against a blue screen (the latter of which changes to green according to driving habits), digital fuel and temperature gauges. The lower dashboard has an analog tachometer and digital odometer. The 10th and present generation saw the two-tier design replaced with a single instrument panel, which in higher tiers is a fully digital and partially customizable design.
Vehicle instruments have been augmented by software-powered display panels conveying information on display panels. Digital instruments present data in the form of numeric parameters, textual messages, or graphical gauges. Unlike the electro-mechanical instrument clusters of the past, these interactive displays are much more versatile and flexible.
Toyota is using electronic instruments for showing the cars parameters for its Yaris/Vitz model, the car employs a vacuum fluorescent display to indicate the speed, RPM, fuel level, odometer, etc.
For the 2011 model year, Chrysler began using a common dashboard across their model line that has an integrated trip computer in addition to the analog gauges. This trip computer can also be used to show a digital speedometer, making these hybrid digital-analog dashboards. the speedometer needle to be too wide, they are relying on the digital speedometer more than the analog gauge.
The 2009 Lexus LFA was one of the first cars to utilize a modern LCD screen. Lexus claimed a digital speedometer was required since an analogue tachometer wouldn"t be able to keep up with the rev changes of the car"s engine.
The third generation Range Rover (L322) also introduced the first use and largest TFT LCD displays used on a production luxury SUV for the facelifted 2010, and end of the cycle model.
Electronic instrument clusters are being increasingly common features on railway vehicles, in which individual instruments are replaced by various forms of digital readouts. Early uses of instrument clusters often employed LEDs to display analog-type or numeric readings for pressure gauges, electrical gauges, and other displays. They have been increasingly integrated with various cab signalling systems and together with the installation of multi-function displays, have simplified the cab layout and improved user interaction with the engineer.
