The best gaming laptops come in various sizes and shapes, for different needs and budgets. So while a tricked out $5,000-plus model with the highest-end graphics and best display might give you the best gaming laptop experience, most of us can"t afford a rig like that. Our picks here are often high-end models (we"re an enthusiast site, after all), but most come in various configurations at various price points. For those on a tight gaming budget, we"ve have dedicated pages for the best gaming laptops under $1,500 and the best gaming laptops under $1,000.

Thankfully, there are more gaming laptop options now than ever, from budget-friendly to desktop replacements. Some come with full-size Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics cards, while others go for the more efficient Max-Q designs that enable thinner chassis and (sometimes) quieter fans.

Why you can trust Tom"s HardwareOur expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test.

While many of the best gaming laptops come with a 1080p display and high refresh rates, some include 4K screens, so you can pick between fidelity and resolution. Several gaming laptop go as fast as 360 Hz. There are also an increasing number of 2560 x 1440 display options, giving you an option other than 1080p or 4K. Additionally, some more expensive, premium options include OLED for deeper blacks and more vivid colors.

There is more choice than ever in components, too. While Intel is still a popular option, AMD"s Ryzen processors are becoming more common. On the GPU side, Nvidia"s RTX GPUs are in most laptops, though AMD is slowly starting to pair its own graphics cards with hits CPUs for what it calls an "AMD Advantage." (We"re not seeing AMD GPUs with Intel CPUs).

The latest technologies in processors include Intel"s 12th Gen "Alder Lake" processors, which use a hybrid design with Performance and Efficient cores, and AMD"s Ryzen 6000 CPUs, though we haven"t seen as many of those comes through as our lab. With Intel and AMD both having moved to their next generations on the desktop, we"re expecting to see updates to laptops in the next few months.

To help you find the best gaming laptop, we"ve compiled a list of the best models we"ve tested and reviewed recently. For much more on how to narrow down your list of best gaming laptop considerations, check out our best gaming laptop buyer’s guide. But here are a few quick tips to get you started down the road to the right portable gaming rig for you.

While many gamers may go to desktops to get the most performance for their money, try lugging a tower, monitor and keyboard around in your backpack. When you need a powerful rig you can take with you, there"s no substitute for a gaming laptop.

Quick Gaming Laptop Shopping TipsFocus on the GPU: Most games are dependent on the GPU, and those aren’t upgradeable. If you splurge on a powerful GPU now, you’ll be gaming comfortably for a few years.

You can upgrade some parts later: While the best CPUs for gaming and GPUs are almost always soldered down, most gaming laptops let you replace the RAM and storage, so you can buy cheaper now and add more memory and a bigger hard drive or SSD down the road. Thicker, more powerful laptops are often easier to upgrade than thinner ones, so be sure to do some research before buying. (We include this information in our reviews).

Battery life will probably be bad: Very few gaming notebooks get 8 hours or more on a charge, and you need the power supply to get the best gaming performance anyway. However, we"ve seen some strong times from AMD"s Ryzen processors, and Nvidia suggests its improved Optimus technology may help turn the tide. For peak gaming performance, however, you"ll want to be sure to be plugged in while playing.

If you"re looking for a laptop with desktop-level power, the MSI GE76 Raider is about as close as you"ll get, though you may also have to spend a ton of money to get there. Still, with its high-end components like the Intel Core i9-12900HK and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti.

We"d be remiss to point out that the Raider has a large RGB light bar on the front, which, when combined with per-key lighting, makes for quite an effect in the dark (or you can turn it all of if you prefer something a bit less showy).

The 17.3-inch, 1080p display goes up to 360 Hz, which is great for esports players, but everyone else might want to consider a 1440p or 4K display, depending on available configurations.

We tested this laptop at $3,999, which is enough to make you tear up when you check your bank account. That"s an awful lot to spend on a laptop (we imagine DDR5 memory partially brings that price up), but it"s also the best performer we"ve seen recently.

Razer has simplified its Blade 15 lineup, removing the "Advanced" and "Base" models, but what"s left is still a very good, thin, stylish gaming notebook. The Blade 15 remains a favorite because it has strong performance (with a Core i7-127800H and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti in the model we reviewed) but is just 4.4 pounds and 0.57 inches thick.

You still get a variety of ports, like Thunderbolt 4, both USB Type-C and Type-A as well as an SD card reader, so there"s plenty of expansion for peripherals and extra storage for games. It would even work great for productivity, though we did find some competing gaming laptops were better in non-gaming benchmarks.

To get Razer"s premium look and feel, you do have to pay a premium. This notebook starts at $2,499 and we reviewed it at $2,999. It"s pricey, but it"s also maintained a spot among our favorite gaming notebooks for years for a reason.

The Alienware x17 R2 goes up to an Intel Core i9-12900HK and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, some of the most powerful parts on the market. In our review, the laptop showed strong performance in both gaming and productivity.

If you have a bit of extra cash, we highly recommend the optional $50 Cherry MX mechanical keyboard, which feels excellent, and everyone on our staff who has tried it has enjoyed it.

The Acer Nitro 5 has long been our favorite gaming laptop for those on a tight budget. The latest model we"ve tested, with an Intel Core i5-12500H and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 Ti offers decent performance for the price, as long as you"re willing to turn down the settings on some games.

Acer has given the Nitro 5 a new, more adult design. It"s less angular, and with fewer red accents, doesn"t scream as much that it"s a gaming notebook. We"ve seen that aesthetic become popular on expensive notebooks, it"s nice to see a toned-down design on a gaming laptop that"s $899.99. (Don"t worry, there"s still an RGB backlit keyboard for those that are into that sort of thing.

There"s a bit of room to upgrade inside, too. Acer includes a SATA cable in the box for people who want to open the laptop and add a 2.5-inch hard drive or SSD. The RAM, NVMe SSD, and Wi-Fi card are all easily accessible, too.

HP"s Victus 15 secures a slot on this list by deftly balancing what you can get at the extreme low-end of gaming laptops. We tested this laptop near its entry-level configuration, at $799.99 with an Intel Core i5-12450H and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650.

For $800, you can"t expect greatness. Most games will play at at least medium settings, though you"ll have to turn some to low from the day you buy it. But for the games that can push high frame rates with the GTX 1650, you get a 1080p, 144 Hz display. That 12th Gen H-series Intel processor is no slouch when you want to use the Victus for productivity work, perhaps at work or school.

If you"re looking to spend as little as possible, you can squeeze value out of the Victus. You won"t get the best display or webcam around, but you"ll spend well under $1,000. One tip, if you can, is to make sure your purchase includes dual-channel RAM. Some stores, like HP"s, let you configure this, and it should improve performance somewhat. Ours didn"t have this, and we wish it did.

For the latest update, Asus added a webcam, which was a glaring omission on previous models. The all-AMD model has also moved to a taller, 16:10 aspect ratio.

If you want top-tier esports performance, the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 SE is the way to go. Yes, it"s expensive, but with an Intel Core i9-12950HX and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, this laptop can handle intense graphics from high-budget games, but can also push esports to the limit.

The Lenovo Legion 5i Pro offers strong performance with a screen that lets you switch between high refresh rate gaming meant for esports or high resolution for more cinematic games. It"s a 16-inch, 2560 x 1600 panel that goes up to 165 Hz. That"s not the fastest we"ve seen on a gaming notebook, but it"s a nice balance.

The "i" in 5i Pro stands for Intel. We tested with an Intel Core i7-12700H along with Nvidia"s GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. Our system also had 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a 512GB SSD.

We were pleasantly surprised by the Legion"s battery life. The laptop ran for seven and a half hours on our battery test, which is longer than most gaming PCs. That suggests that you could use it for quite a bit as a productivity machine (especially in conjunction with the tall 16:10 screen to see your work).

Asus" latest ROG Zephyrus Duo uses AMD"s top-end RYzen 9 5900HX paired with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 for powerful results, while using a second screen that lifts up to provide more ventilation to improve cooling.

The two displays are both bright and colorful, and at a bit over 4 hours and 52 minutes on our battery test, it"s endurance is good (for a gaming notebook, anyway).

The keyboard and mouse are in an awkward position, like most dual-screen notebooks on the market (most people will likely use an external mouse for gaming). So you"ll have to decide if that second screen — which is great for chat programs, gaming guides or music apps — is worth a more difficult typing experience.

Optimised for gaming. While laptops with an RTX 3080 offer a whole lot of performance, they are often chunky and can get really hot, which is not something that everybody wants. The Acer Nitro 5, on the other hand, is for those who are looking for a low-priced portable gaming laptop.

The Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55 is the latest laptop in Acer’s Nitro 5 series, which consists of low-priced notebooks that aim to cover the basics. Our review device comes with the GeForce RTX 3060, which is one of Nvidia’s latest GPUs. The Nitro 5 is supposed to offer a relatively high level of performance at a reasonable power draw. Our review device is very similar to the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-44, which is why we did not provide a detailed description of the case and the ports. You can find all the relevant information in our review of the predecessor model.

The design of the 15.6-inch Nitro 5 AN515-55 has not changed much when compared to the predecessor model. The laptop is still made of matte black plastic. The colour accents are also still here. Because the keys now have a white accent instead of a red one, the Nitro 5 looks less flashy. The angular design, the red colour accent around the touchpad and the red plastic "inserts" are all vestiges of what used to be considered cool in the gaming laptop world. The build quality is on a good level. The chassis is quite stiff. However, the display lid and the keyboard deck exhibit a small amount of flex.

The Nitro 5 AN515-55 takes up slightly more space than most other laptops with similar hardware. Weighing in at 2.3 kg (5 lbs), the Nitro 5 is the heaviest device in our comparison chart. The MSI GF65 Thin 10UE is the lightest notebook that we included in our review. It only weighs 1.9 kg (4.27 lbs).

The Nitro 5 supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0, thanks to an Intel communications module (AX201). The Nitro 5 does not achieve spectacular speeds in our Wi-Fi test, but it is still fast enough for all usage scenarios. However, some competing laptops are almost twice as fast as the Acer notebook when it comes to Wi-Fi speeds.

To get to the internal components, users will have to undo 11 screws on the bottom. Once the device is open, users will get access to the two M.2 slots, the replaceable Wi-Fi module, the battery and the fans. As you can see from the image below, there is a bay for a 2.5-inch drive, but there is no SATA connector.

The keyboard features an RBG backlight with four brightness levels, which can be cycled through in the Nitrosense utility. The keys offer a short travel distance and very little resistance. The keyboard does not produce a lot of noise when typing, which is why it can be used in quiet environments. The keyboard is not suited for long typing sessions. Moreover, the keys of the numeric pad are too small.

The Acer Nitro 5 has a 15.6-inch display with a native resolution of 1920x1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. The display is fit for competitive titles. Those who want a 165-Hz 1440p screen or a 240-Hz 1080p display will have to pay a significant premium.

The brightness is on a very good level when compared to the rest of the competition. The brightness distribution is also quite decent. Our panel does not exhibit an excessive amount of backlight bleeding. The Schenker XMG Core 15 Ampere is the only device in our comparison chart that offers a higher screen brightness. The panel in the Schenker notebook also has a higher resolution (2560x1440).

Both the contrast ratio (1371:1) and the black value (0.21 cd/m²) are very good. Only the MSI GF65 Thin 10UE does better here. The Nitro 5 still manages to beat the MSI GF65 in terms of colour reproduction, though. Nevertheless, the screen of the Nitro 5 is not suitable for professional applications, because it only manages to cover 62% of sRGB and 44% of AdobeRGB. Both the Schenker XMG Core 15 and the Asus TUF Dash F15 have significantly more colour-accurate screens, but they cost more money.

The display of the Nitro 5 is hard to read outside on sunny days because it has a brightness of only 260 cd/m². However, in all other situations, the screen should be legible, thanks to a matte surface.

In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 19508 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 3846000) Hz was measured.

Our review device comes with the Intel Core i5-10300H, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 and 16 GB of DDR4 dual-channel RAM. Our configuration of the Nitro 5 features a 512 GB NVMe SSD. In Europe, there is also an alternative configuration with the hexa-core Intel Core i7-10750H and the RTX 3050/RTX 3050 Ti. Our review device is primarily intended for gaming because it comes with a mid-range CPU and a high-end GPU. Buyers should also be aware of the fact that not all configurations come with Windows 10 preinstalled. For instance, Windows 10 was not preinstalled on our review device.

The Core i5-10300H is a hexa-core Comet Lake-based processor, which was manufactured on the 14-nm node. However, nowadays buyers can get Intel’s 10-nm CPUs, which offer a big boost in performance. Howbeit, the Core i5-10300H is still a very capable gaming processor.

In our Cinebench R15 loop, the CPU was able to achieve very stable, albeit rather low, clock rates. The predecessor model with the AMD Ryzen 5 4600H exhibited similar behaviour in this test. Nevertheless, the Ryzen 5 4600H in the Nitro 5 AN515-44 is 57% faster than the Core i5-10300H in our current review device in the CR15 loop. When running on battery power, the CPU performance of the Nitro 5 AN515-55 drops significantly. When plugged in, the Nitro 5 AN515-55 achieved a multi-core score of 777 points in Cinebench R15. However, when running on battery power, it only got a multi-core score of 504 points.

In the productivity benchmarks, the Core i5-10300H was trounced by the competing laptops with better CPUs. In all of our benchmarks, the Core i5-10300H performed as expected.

Because it does not have a very powerful CPU, the Nitro 5 achieves mediocre results in our system benchmarks. Nevertheless, in day-to-day use, the system feels very responsive and applications start very quickly.

Our review device features a 512 GB NVMe SSD from Western Digital. However, other models come with a 1 TB SSD. In the storage benchmarks, the 512 GB SSD performs worse than the competition in almost all areas. The 4K read speed is the only exception. All in all, the SSD is fast enough to provide a very good user experience.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 (Mobile) is a high-end GPU, which is based on Nvidia’s new Ampere architecture. It offers a significant boost in performance when compared to last generation GPUs. It has 6 GB of GDDR6 video memory and an 85-W TGP.

The Schenker XMG Core 15 is outperforming the rest of the competition in the 3DMark benchmarks because it features an RTX 3060 with a 120-W TGP. The Nitro 5 beats its predecessor by more than 50% and can keep up with the 85-W RTX 3070 in the Asus TUF Dash F15 in certain benchmarks.

Acer’s gaming laptop can handle all modern titles at 1080p on high settings. It can run some esports titles at 144 FPS. However, the RTX 3060 cannot achieve playable frame rates in Cyberpunk 2077with RT effects enabled. Without DLSS, it can hit only 23 FPS on average. All in all, the RTX 3060 in the Nitro 5 is a capable gaming GPU.

In our gaming stress test with The Witcher 3, we saw a significant drop in performance halfway through. This was probably caused by some sort of system issue.

Under load, the underside of the device gets hottest (49-51 °C; 120.2-123.8 °F), especially in the area near the screen. We saw these surface temperatures during both our gaming stress test with The Witcher 3 and our stress test with Prime95 and FurMark. The right side and the middle of the wrist rest area reach up to 37 °C (98.6 °F), which is quite warm. However, the left side does not get as warm, peaking at only 28 °C (82.4 °F).

At the beginning of our stress test (Prime95 and FurMark running continuously for at least one hour), the processor operated at 4.2 GHz and the GPU ran at 1425 MHz. After a short while, the CPU hit 90 °C (194 °F) and started to throttle down to keep itself within the conservative operating range set by Acer. In the meantime, the GPU temperatures slowly climbed to 79 °C (174.2 °F). Eventually, the GPU clocks settled at around 800 MHz, occasionally spiking to 1400 MHz. Over the course of our stress test, the average CPU clock rate amounted to 3.4 GHz and the average GPU clock rate was 1040 MHz.

(-) The average temperature for the upper side under maximal load is 40.3 °C / 105 F, compared to the average of 33.8 °C / 93 F for the devices in the class Gaming.

(-) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 49 °C / 120 F, compared to the average of 40.4 °C / 105 F, ranging from 21.2 to 68.8 °C for the class Gaming.

The Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55 comes with two 2-W speakers. They do not produce a lot of bass but still sound acceptable. The maximum volume is on a good level. Users can connect external audio devices via a USB port, the included 3.5-mm audio jack or Bluetooth.

When idle, the average power draw amounted to 9 W—a good result. The energy consumption peaked at 190 W. The rated output of the AC adapter is 180 W. We would like to point out that our measurements do not account for any efficiency losses that may be attributable to VRMs or any other components.

Currently we use the Metrahit Energy, a professional single phase power quality and energy measurement digital multimeter, for our measurements. Find out more about it here. All of our test methods can be found here.

The 57.5-Wh battery of the Nitro 5 lasted 5h and 43m in our Wi-Fi test and 1h 28m under load. In our video test (playing back an H.264 video on a loop), the Acer laptop lasted 6h and 9m. In our battery tests, the Nitro 5 achieved slightly above-average battery runtimes for a device with such a battery capacity.

The matte black plastic surfaces make the Nitro 5 appear quite subdued. However, thanks to its angular design, it does not look boring at all. The build quality is on a good level, and the input devices are usable. The selection of ports is not outstanding but it is good enough for a laptop in this price bracket. The Nitro 5 does not offer any premium features.

The main draw of the Nitro 5 is, undoubtedly, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 (Mobile), which Acer put in its low-priced gaming laptop. The last-generation CPU is powerful enough to allow the RTX 3060 to reach its full potential when gaming. However, we would not recommend the Core i5-10300H to anyone who needs to use a lot of productivity applications. The subpar keyboard and the small battery capacity are our main points of criticism. With the Nitro 5, Acer wanted to achieve a good price-to-performance ratio by using an RTX 3060. At the right price, the Nitro 5 is a great gaming laptop with no major weaknesses.

In most titles, the CPU does not play a very significant role. The Nitro 5 can easily handle the latest games. The 144-Hz screen is good enough for gaming. However, it is not suitable for professional applications because of the poor colour space coverage. Even though there is a whole lot of competition in the lower mid-range segment, Acer managed to deliver an impressive gaming laptop, which covers the basics very well.

Even in my youth I was already very enthusiastic about technology, and as a result I started building PCs, optimizing them, and writing programs while I was still in school. When dealing with the inevitable hardware and software problems associated with computers, I was always relentless in my search for the necessary solutions. The compact forms of laptops and smartphones introduced further challenges in this regard. In my reviews for Notebookcheck I try to communicate as objectively as possible how well a device copes with these hurdles.

I am a big fan of technology, which is why I try to keep up with it. Among my other passions are literature and writing, and so it should not be surprising to anyone at all that I have a four-year bachelor"s degree in philology. However, my interests are not limited just to the world of technology, or, for that matter, the world of literature. I am also interested in people and the stories they have to tell. And more recently, I took an interest in artificial intelligence.

For instance, a lot of users complain about Acer laptop monitor not turning on and getting the Acer laptop black screen. If you have also got the Acer black screen of death, don"t worry – it is quite a common issue. In this troubleshooting guide, I"m going to tell you how to fix black screen on Acer laptop easily!

Since the Acer laptop black screen of death can be a crucial issue, users can end up resetting their system to fix it. In that process, you might end up losing some of your important system or user files. Therefore, what you should do first when your acer laptop screen won"t turn on is restoring and making a copy of your files and documents. You can use a reliable recovery tool like

Since the application supports all kinds of major data types and computers, you don"t have to worry about any compatibility issues. All you got to do is install Recoverit Data Recovery on your Acer computer and follow these steps:

Once you choose to create a USB bootable drive, a pop up message will appear requiring you to format your USB flash drive. Make sure you have backed up your important data before formatting the USB drive. Then click the "Format" button to proceed.

The creation of a bootable device will start. During the process, please do not remove the USB flash drive. As the creating process takes a while, please wait until the bootable drive used to boot your acer laptop up is created.

Once the bootable media is created, the window will display two simple instructions to follow to complete your data recovery from Acer PC having startup problem.

Adjust BIOS to boot from USB, allowing Acer computer to boot through your bootable device. Restart your crashed Acer laptop and press the BIOS entry key when the first screen is displayed.

Once you have restarted your Acer PC, you will find that your computer not displaying anyting is bootable, and you can recover and backup any data from it.

If you are getting the Acer computer black screen even when the system is turned on, then you can try the following fixes after backing up your data. Since it can happen due to hardware or software-related reasons, you need to follow a stepwise approach to fix this.

To start with, I"m going to list the simplest way to fix the Acer Aspire black screen problem. If there is a minor issue with its firmware or booting, then you can try to power reset your laptop. To do this, just press the Power button on your laptop and keep holding it for at least 15 seconds.

This will forcefully perform a soft reset on your Acer system and would turn it off. Afterward, let go of the Power button, wait for a while, and press the Power key again to turn it on.

If you have got the Acer black screen, then you first need to check whether the issue is with the screen or caused by a firmware problem. For this, I would recommend connecting your system with an external monitor. You can use the connecting cable and simply fix it with an external monitor. If you get the correct display on the external monitor, then it means the problem is with your laptop"s screen (and not its firmware).

Step 3. If an image displays on the external monitor, the reason might be a graphics driver conflict with the laptop LCD display. So solve this, you need to install the latest graphics and chipset drivers for your specific computer.

Another smart solution to fix the Acer Chromebook black screen of death includes the use of function keys. You might already know that there are certain functions and special keyboard shortcuts that we can use for different purposes.

Sometimes, even a driver-related issue can also cause the Acer computer black screen problem. For instance, if the driver has become corrupt, is outdated, or has not been installed properly, then it can make your Acer laptop go black screen after the logo. To fix it, you can consider reinstalling or resetting the graphic card driver.

Step 1. Firstly, go to the Start menu and launch the Device Manager from here. You can also go to its Control Panel > Device Manager to get this option.

Step 3. Once the driver has been successfully uninstalled, you can go to its official website and download the relevant driver software for your system.

Chances are that a virus or malware attack on the system"s disk could have also resulted in the Acer laptop black screen. For instance, it could have corrupted the disk or the Windows partition, leading to the malfunction of the system. To fix the Acer Aspire black screen, you can use a reliable anti-virus software like Windows Defender or a third-party tool from brands like Norton, AVG, Avira, Avast, Kaspersky, etc.

You can just scan the hard drive of your Acer computer, detect the presence of malware, and even fix it. If needed, you can even format the entire hard drive to remove the presence of any malicious entity from it.

BIOS, which stands for the Basic Input and Output System, is responsible for the overall booting operations of the system. Though, if there is an issue with your BIOS program, then it can cause the Acer black screen of death. In this case, you can consider updating your system"s BIOS settings by following these steps:

Step 3. Now, you can just go to the website of Acer or the motherboard company to download the updated BIOS version on your computer. You would have to unzip the downloaded file on your computer.

Step 5. Now, restart the system and press the BIOS key (like F2, F12, DEL, etc.) to enter the BIOS settings. Go to the Boot > Advanced settings and flash the upgraded BIOS installation from the USB drive.

That"s it! Once the BIOS settings have been upgraded, your system will automatically be restarted. If the Acer laptop black screen occurred due to a corrupt or outdated BIOS, then it will resolve the issue.

It might sound surprising, but the Acer black screen of death can also happen due to a discharged system. If the AC adapter or the battery of your Acer system is not functioning, then you might not be able to turn the laptop on. Firstly, you can check the adapter by connecting it to any other device. Also, you can remove the battery of the system and get it checked to ensure there is no serious hardware issue with the system.

If the memory module is loose, it usually causes the laptop to not display images. Therefore, reinstalling the memory module may solve the problem of black screen or black screen on the laptop. You can finally do this by removing the AC adapter from your laptop, removing and relocating the memory stick, and then reconnecting the AC adapter to your laptop.

Step 1.Close your laptop, then disconnect the power cord. Contact a grounded metal object to release static electricity before performing any operation.

Tips: If you lost some critical files after successfully fixing the problem of "Acer laptop blue light on but screen is black", Recoverit data recovery software can also help you get lost data back in 3 simple steps as shown below.

When the process is completed, the extracted data will be categorized properly. You can also use the inbuilt filters to handpick the kind of files you are looking for.

I"m sure that after reading this guide, you would be able to fix the Acer black screen of death issue easily. As there could be different issues leading to the Acer computer monitor black screen, I have included various fixes for them in this guide. You might have to try a handful of these solutions to fix the Acer black screen problem. Also, if you have lost your important files during the process, then just use Recoverit Data Recovery and get your lost data back easily.

Acer"s Nitro 5 gaming laptop lineup isn"t one I"ve found terribly appealing in the past. In fact, previous Nitro 5 models have accounted for some of my lowest scoring reviews. But for the last two weeks, I"ve been testing the latest Nitro 5, equipped with modern internals and a design that"s somewhat boring – but in a good way, if there is such a thing. Maybe I’m jaded, or maybe I’ve grown to appreciate a more laid back approach to design, but the latest Nitro 5 isn’t a gaming laptop I’d quickly frown at. In fact, the exact opposite.

The Acer Nitro 5 spans a wide range of price points, starting as low as $699 and maxing out over $2,000. Thankfully, Acer sent me a build that sits closer to the middle of range, priced at just over $1,300. So how much gaming laptop do you get for $1,300? A decent amount, it turns out.Acer Nitro 5 (2022) – Photos

Acer hasn"t tried to reinvent the gaming laptop with Nitro 5. It"s a basic design with a bit of gaming flair thanks to an RGB backlit keyboard with four different zones, red Nitro text, and a pinstripe-like effect on the lid.

I like how spread out all of the ports are, as well as the fact that they cover a wide range of standards and provide multiple connectivity options. I do wish, however, that the Thunderbolt 4 port could be used to power the Nitro 5 for all tasks. Whenever I connected the Nitro 5 to Belkin"s Pro Thunderbolt 4 Dock, a message would show up on the display letting me know that the Nitro 5 isn"t charging at max speed and that I should connect the included 140W charger if I plan on doing any serious computing (read: gaming). It"s an expected response, given the hub"s full output is only 90W and that the Nitro 5 only charges at 65W through the Thunderbolt 4 port.

Overall, the Nitro 5 looks and feels like any entry-level gaming laptop over the last few years. There"s nothing special or noteworthy about the design, which I suppose isn"t a bad thing. At least you know what to expect.

The components that make up the Nitro 5 are similar to Acer"s approach to the design. They"re basic and get the job done without calling special attention to any one aspect.

The Nitro 5 I"ve been testing is equipped with an Intel Core i5-12500H processor, a Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU, 16GB of memory and 512GB of SSD storage.

As you can see, the Nitro 5 beat out both comparisons nearly down the line. The difference in scores doesn"t come from the RTX 3060, but instead is likely a factor of improvements Intel has made with its 12th Generation processors compared to 11th Gen and 10th Gen, respectively. The same can be said for improved battery life – with the Nitro 5 outlasting the MSI and HP offerings.

During my testing, I never felt like the Nitro 5 was slow. I was able to use it for routine tasks like browsing the web in Edge, listening to Spotify or quickly editing gaming clips.

I wasn"t a huge fan of how short the keys are on the keyboard when gaming. For typing, they"re fine. But gaming I feel like it"s too easy to get lost on the keyboard, even with the WASD keys having a white outline (as do the arrow keys) to help you quickly visualize where your fingers should call home.

The speakers and display were also average. The sound was good enough for casual gaming without headphones, but once the fans kicked on it became apparent that any games that require precise sound recognition will also require a decent pair of gaming headphones. For a full high-definition display, I found the screen to look sharp, but with dull color saturation.

I"m not knocking the Nitro 5 too much for its battery performance right now, but soon battery life under four hours will start being considered a major drawback.

In addition to NitroSense, Acer has some of its own software installed that helps check warranty information or keep the laptop"s drivers and software up to date. And, of course, there"s Norton Security Ultra (hey, I didn"t say there wasn"t any bloatware).

I like NitroSense and found it easy to use and navigate. I didn"t spend a ton of time using it, other than to mess with changing the keyboard"s lighting and get an overall feel for it. But with a dedicated key on the keyboard to launch NitroSense, I can see it being a program I would end up using often if I were to own a Nitro 5. Without a dedicated key, it"s all but too easy to forget about similar apps on competing laptops.Purchasing Guide

CPU: Intel Core i7-12700K | RAM: 32GB DDR5 | Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti | Storage: 1TB SSD | Display:15.6-inch | Resolution:2,560 x 1,440 | Refresh rate: 240Hz | Battery:Up to 5 hours | Weight:4.4 pounds

The Razer Blade 15 features the best mobile gaming hardware money can buy. From its Intel 12th-generation Core i7-12700H processor to its fast 240Hz 2K display, this laptop has power to spare. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics card gets big gains in performance over lower tier cards by using Nvidia"s Ampere architecture, which delivers higher frame rates, finer detail settings and better handling at high resolutions. Inside, the Blade 15 has 32GB of RAM, 1TB of fast storage and a capable and quiet cooling solution to keep you gaming for hours.

With a solid design, this stylish laptop has a sleek finish on every surface and a minimalist chassis with a thin-bezel display. The revamped, comfortable keyboard has new, bigger keycaps and snappy responsive switches, making for more accurate typing and gaming over longer sessions. Razer’s classy Chroma backlighting highlights the keyboard, and it makes this a distinctly gamer laptop. Battery life isn"t extensive with such a high-end configuration, but you can get a few solid hours of play away from a power socket. Also buy from Razer directly at the same price, with an Intel Core i7-12800H processor.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 6900HX | RAM: 16GB DDR5 | Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 6800S | Storage: 1TB SSD | Display:16-inch | Resolution:2,560 x 1,600 | Refresh rate: 165Hz | Battery:Up to 12 hours | Weight:4.5 pounds

The Lenovo Legion Slim 7 bucks the usual trends of high-end gaming laptops by offering great performance alongside long battery life and a strong complement of components—all at a more mid-range price. Armed with AMD"s latest CPU and GPU technologies and their efficient process nodes, the Legion Slim 7’s 12-hour battery life extends well beyond the typical handful of hours most gaming laptops manage. Throw in additional smart power management technologies (like AMD SmartShift, which helps maximize performance without affecting battery life) and you have a very capable machine that can game for hours at a time. While the 6800S won’t compete with the most high-end GPUs out there, it is more than enough for playing most games at high detail settings and frame rates.

This laptop’s bright and vibrant screen can hit 350 nits brightness, and its 2K resolution delivers crisp text and clear pictures. The 165Hz refresh rate ensures whatever you"re playing will look buttery smooth, especially when playing at higher frame rates, and the 1TB SSD means this laptop will start up and load games quickly. Despite its slim moniker, this 4.5 pound-laptop is relatively heavy—but not as much so as some competitors. Still, the Legion Slim 7 is portable enough to carry around with you when the gaming mood strikes.

CPU: Intel Core i7-12700H | RAM: 32GB DDR5 | Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti | Storage:1TB SSD | Display:17.3-inch | Resolution: 1,920 x 1,080 | Refresh rate: 360Hz | Battery:Up to 5 hours | Weight:6.8 pounds

With a giant 17-inch screen and powerful components, the Dell Alienware x17 R2 rivals desktop gaming rigs—and it does so in a more portable chassis than many of its contemporaries at similar sizes. This laptop’s Intel Core i7-12700H CPU and 16GB of DDR5 memory give this model impressive general compute power. Combined with one of the most powerful mobile GPUs ever, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, this is a stellar gaming laptop with all the power you need to play anything.

One drawback: The display is only 1080p, a relatively low resolution for a high-end laptop. But where some gaming laptops target higher resolutions, this one goes for boosting frames. With its 360Hz refresh rate, this laptop makes high-speed games look gorgeously smooth, and if you"re playing against other players, it gives you an edge by lowering your response time and input lag. Battery life is limited to about an hour of hard-core gaming without plugging in the power cable, but it stays cool thanks to advances in Dell"s cooling technologies. The laptop’s styled aesthetics scream "gamer" at anyone who dares look its way, and it"s heavy enough that it will feel right at home parked on your desktop.

CPU: Intel Core i7-12800H | RAM: 32GB DDR5 | Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti | Storage:1TB SSD | Display:17.3-inch | Resolution: 2,560 x 1,440 | Refresh rate: 240Hz | Battery:Up to 5 hours | Weight:6.1 pounds

If you liked the look of the Razer Blade 15 but thought it just wasn"t quite enough laptop for you, here comes the Razer Blade 17. It"s the same sleek chassis with a svelte, black design that looks great when augmented with the keyboard’s backlighting and laptop’s RGB lights. Battery life isn"t great—just an hour or so for high-end gaming—and it"s quite weighty, but as long as you do your gaming at a desk with it plugged in, that won"t matter much.

What will matter, however, is performance, and with the high-power hardware in this laptop, you can play any game you want at the highest detail settings and high frame rates. The combination of an Intel Core i7-12800H and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti gives you all the power you need for the latest and greatest AAA and esports games, and with a 240Hz screen you can see super fluid visuals and have a very responsive gaming experience for competitive play.

CPU:AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX | RAM: 16GB DDR5 | Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti | Storage:1TB SSD | Display:17.3-inch | Resolution: 1,920 x 1,080 | Refresh rate: 360Hz | Battery:Up to 5 hours | Weight:7.3 pounds

If you"re an AMD fan, or want something just a tad more modest and affordable than the x17 R2, then the Alienware m17 R5 is a great alternative. It comes packing AMD"s flagship mobile gaming processor, the eight-core 6900HX which offers comparable performance and greater efficiency than the Intel 12700H. When paired with the powerful Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti, this 17-inch gaming laptop delivers excellent performance, helping to hit high frame rates in any game. With a 1080p display, you won"t be taxing the GPU too hard, so you can set all in-game settings to the maximum while still enjoying smooth, high frames-per-second. That makes this an excellent laptop for playing high paced esports games, where higher frame rates can help you win games by lowering input lag.

The overall design is attractive and understated, too, and avoids some of the over the top "gamer" styling of other gaming laptops. It is very heavy, though, so you won"t want to haul this around with you all day. Battery life isn"t great either, with only an hour or two of game time away from a power socket. Consider this more of a gaming desktop replacement that you can take with you to LAN parties, and you can use it to have an amazing gaming experience whatever you want to play.

CPU:Intel Core i5-12500H | RAM: 16GB DDR5 | Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 | Storage:512GB SSD | Display:14-inch | Resolution: 1,920 x 1,080 | Refresh rate: 144Hz | Battery:Up to 9 hours | Weight:4.1 pounds

The Dell Alienware X14 is one of the thinnest and lightest gaming laptops ever made, measuring just 0.6-inches thick at its widest point. With its length and width just 12.7-inches and 10.4-inches, respectively, this is a seriously compact machine, but it packs a real punch of powerful components. It has an Intel Core i5-12500H, paired with 16GB of fast DDR5 memory and a 512GB SSD. The versatile Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 graphics isn’t great for playing games with ray tracing enabled, but it’s plenty fast for esports games (and you can opt for the more powerful 3050 Ti and 3060 graphics cards at an extra cost). The high refresh rate 1080p display has a fast response time and full Nvidia G-Sync support.

This laptop’s overall design is excellent, with a unique look from the rear that helps this laptop stand out from the sea of black gaming machines. It has heaps of ports for connecting accessories, including USB Type-A, USB Type-C and Thunderbolt 4, and it even has an HDMI 2.1 output if you want to play your games on a bigger screen. Connectivity includes an RJ-45 ethernet port, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. All the ports are at the rear of the laptop, with air vents lining the sides. Battery life varies dramatically depending on what you"re doing, with some light users claiming it can go as long as 10 hours on a charge, while gaming is more limited to a max of four hours.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500U | RAM: 8GB DDR4 | Graphics:AMD Radeon 7 | Storage:256GB SSD | Display:15.6-inches | Resolution: 1,920 x 1,080 | Refresh rate: 60Hz | Battery:Up to 11 hours | Weight:3.9 pounds

Most gaming laptops sell for around the $800 mark, but that doesn"t mean you can"t get a gaming laptop if your budget is lower. The Acer Aspire 5 (A515-45-R74Z) isn"t a gaming-laptop per se, but its AMD Ryzen 5500U processor with onboard Radeon Vega graphics and 8GB of RAM is enough compute power to handle casual, indie and esports games. It can even play less-demanding, older AAA games, though you may need to adjust the settings given this system’s specs.

The prosaic 1080p display ensures the onboard graphics processing doesn’t get stressed when playing games at native resolution. The 256GB SSD is more than enough for Windows and a handful of games. This laptop has Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, as well as a built-in 720p webcam. It also has great battery life, lasting over 11 hours of mixed usage or well over five when gaming. This isn"t a gaming laptop on paper, but it can play less-demanding games reasonably well for a low price.

CPU: Intel Core i5-12650H | RAM: 16GB DDR4 |Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 Ti | Storage: 512GB SSD | Display: 15.6-inch | Resolution: 1,920 x 1,080 | Refresh rate: 144Hz | Battery:Up to 10 hours | Weight:5.1 pounds

The HP Victus comes in a range of configurations, so if you want something more powerful than the budget option below, you could opt for this more aggressive design. It features the same high-quality chassis and double-digit battery life, but it upgrades the processor to an Intel Core i5-12650H and more importantly, the graphics to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 Ti. This GPU is much more powerful, not only delivering higher detail settings and frame rates in traditional games, but it also comes with tensor and RT cores, which allow users to enable ray tracing (in supported games) and take advantage of deep learning super sampling to increase frame rates without sacrificing visual quality.

The display is 1080p and 144Hz, but as a pre-configured Best Buy system, you don"t have the same upgrade options as at the HP store. However, you get an affordable laptop with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage, so it"s an all-around better configuration that will look and feel more responsive regardless of the games you play.

CPU: Intel Core i7-12500H | RAM: 16GB DDR4 |Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 Ti | Storage: 512GB SSD | Display: 15.6-inch | Resolution: 1,920 x 1,080 | Refresh rate: 144Hz | Battery:Up to 9 hours | Weight:5.51 pounds

The Acer Nitro 5 is a highly capable gaming laptop with a great holiday discount that makes its powerful hardware much more affordable. The combination of the 12-core Intel Core i7-12500H processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics delivers potent performance for esports and AAA gaming alike. That’s enough power to drive frame rates to over 100 at select detail settings in most games, which lets you take full advantage of the 144Hz refresh rate display. This laptop is less portable than many at this screen size due to its hefty weight, but it has conveniences like a comfortable, well-spaced keyboard with per-key backlighting, three USB 3.2 Type-A ports, three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports, a Thunderbolt 4 port, an HDMI 2.1 output, an Ethernet port, and a headphone jack.

The overall design of this keyboard is clean and professional, with a great-looking, compact, but full-size keyboard with excellent backlighting. Battery life for the laptop isn"t great at just nine hours (and much less for gaming) but it"s not bad for a budget design. The display is a little dull, but colors are good, and at a high refresh rate, you"ll find your esports games feel buttery smooth to play.

CPU: Intel Core i7-12700H | RAM: 16GB DDR5 | Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti | Storage: 1TB SSD | Display: 15.6-inch | Resolution: 1,920 x 1,080 | Refresh rate: 144Hz | Battery:Up to 6 hours | Weight:4.63 pounds

The MSI Sword is a great looking laptop with powerful hardware, a relatively svelte design for added portability, and plenty of storage space for managing the largest of game libraries. It features Intel"s stellar 14 core Core i7-12700H CPU which has all the power you need for high frame rate gaming. To make sure it has the graphical muscle to manage more demanding games, though, that chip is paired with Nvidia"s RTX 3070 Ti and with a 105W power limit, it has all the headroom it needs to handle the highest of detail settings in the latest games.

The 144Hz screen is crisp and clear enough at 1080p at 15.6-inches, and though it doesn"t have the detail of higher resolution models, that makes it much easier to hit higher frame rates for a smoother gaming experience — and a more competitive one, too. Battery life isn"t great, but few gaming laptops can claim otherwise, and it"s actually relatively light at just over 4.5 pounds — though we still wouldn"t want to carry it around all day. The overall design is great, though, with a unique looking keyboard deck, a good selection of ports, including USB Type-A and Type-C, and an HDMI 2.1 output if you want to game on a bigger display.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 6900HS | RAM: 16GB DDR5 | Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 | Storage: 512GB SSD | Display: 15.6-inch | Resolution: 2,560 x 1,440 | Refresh rate: 165Hz | Battery:Up to 10 hours | Weight:4.2 pounds

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 offers a potent combination of powerful gaming hardware and lengthy battery life, letting you play your games at high detail settings using the display’s native 1440p resolution. It can last for up to 10 hours of mixed usage away from a power socket, so five hours of gaming should be more than possible. With a 512GB SSD, you have plenty of space to store your expansive game library.

At just over four pounds, this laptop is among the lightest gaming options. You could easily carry it around in a backpack and break it out when you want a game, or you can use it on your lap on a train or plane. The vibrant 2K display has a 165Hz refresh rate, too, so when you"re playing higher paced games with lots of action, or especially if you"re playing competitively, you get an edge by improving your reaction time and lowering input lag.

It has strong components for high-performance gaming, a gorgeous display with a fast refresh rate, and plenty of ultra-fast storage for quick game load times. With its smaller 14-inch display, the chassis is both sleek and light, with an understated and classy design which looks good for gamers and serious students alike. The 2K display means text and graphics are sharp—helpful when writing papers in between gameplay. And at 3.6 pounds, this laptop can go to class or to your friend’s dorm room just as easily as it can stay on the desk at your home.

The Ryzen 9 6900HS processor and Radeon 6700S graphics are, together, more energy-efficient than previous chip designs, which means this laptop can get a reasonable battery life. It has Dolby Atmos support for decoding spatial entertainment audio, and a built-in microphone with noise cancellation is a handy inclusion if you don’t have a gaming headset nearby. Between its professional look, moderate size and plenty of gaming horsepower, this laptop is the perfect companion for a hardworking student gamer—or even a mobile professional who appreciates gaming in their downtime while on the road.
