redmi 4 lcd module price free sample
In all likelihood, Xiaomi’s got another winner on its hands in terms of sales. If you’re planning to pick up a budget smartphone right now, it’s hard to look further than Redmi 4. At this stage, one can safely say that it’s hard to go wrong with a Xiaomi.
After the huge success of Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4A, the company has recently launched the successor of Redmi 3S that was launched last year – Redmi 4. Apart from being an iterative upgrade, the Redmi 4 packs in a fingerprint sensor this time around and comes in three memory variants.
The Redmi 4 looks like a capable phone on the specifications sheet in the budget smartphone market where some compromises are certain. Can Redmi 4 rise above those to offer a great value-for-money smartphone and hit new sales records? Let’s find out in this comprehensive review.
For this review, I took the mid-variant of the Redmi 4, the one with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage, for a spin. The retail unit was provided by Xiaomi for the purpose of this review.
With a unibody metal construction, the Redmi 4 follows the design language of Redmi Note 4. There are curved edges with a curved 2.5D glass on the front which aids the ergonomics. The highlight of the design is of course the compact form factor owing to the 5-inch display. It fits quite well in one’s palms and single-handed usage is a breeze.
The Redmi 4 might be a budget phone but there’s no compromise on the aesthetics. In fact, with this outing – like before – the company sets the standards for what affordable smartphones should look and feel like in 2017.
The Redmi 4 sports a 5-inch HD display with a 1280 x 720 resolution. There’s a 2.5D curved glass, similar to the Redmi Note 4. It’s toughened glass, although there’s no Gorilla Glass protection.
The HD display nevertheless looks fantastic in terms of color reproduction and viewing angles. The images and text looks sharp, and it is clearly one of the best displays on smartphones in this price segment. Maintaining a perfect balance, it is a crisp and vivid display without the colors looking oversaturated.
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 octa-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz coupled with Adreno 505 GPU, the Redmi 4 comes in three memory variants – there’s one with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage, another one with 3 GB of RAM along with 32 GB of storage, and the top variant with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage.
The Snapdragon 435 is a pretty snappy chip, and the Redmi 4 chugs along nicely in daily usage. In my three weeks of usage, I haven’t really encountered any sluggishness or lags. You can also play most of the graphic-intensive games, albeit with a few frame skips here and there or graphic settings turned down. One of the impressive things is that even while gaming, the phone did not get hot.
The 4,100 mAh battery on the Redmi 4 saves you from the constant battery anxiety. A day and a half on a single charge is easily manageable for most casual users which is impressive really. Even on moderate to higher usage, the phone managed to offer more than a day of battery life.
Just like the Redmi Note 4, the Redmi 4 packs in an IR blaster that you can configure to use your phone as a remote control for several electronic appliances at your home. The fingerprint scanner located at the back is quite good, and apart from authentication, can also be used to take photos, especially those selfies.
The dual SIM smartphone features a hybrid slot, so essentially, you can either use two SIM cards or one SIM card and one microSD card. If you need to use two SIMs and are a content hog, maybe you’d like to opt for the top variant that offers 64 GB internal storage.
While the battery life on the Redmi 4 is stellar, it is disappointing that there is no fast charging support on the device. The issue is magnified in phones which pack in larger batteries because it takes even longer to charge the phone completely.
The Redmi 4 runs MIUI 8 on top of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. MIUI is Xiaomi’s proprietary customization layer on top of Android. It is heavily skinned, and a totally different UI altogether than stock Android.
Starting at ₹6,999 ($108) for the base variant, the Redmi 4 ticks all the right boxes and there is hardly anything to complain. It’s a great package with solid chassis, Qualcomm’s newer chipset, decent camera, and great battery life. The only shortcoming of the device is lack of Android Nougat out of the box.
If you can up your budget, the middle variant at ₹8,999 ($139) is the best pick of the three since it offers just the right balance of performance and price. The top spec’d variant at ₹10,999 ($170) is of course great too, but you can also look at other options in the market at that price or go for it only if you need all that storage.
In all likelihood, Xiaomi’s got another winner on its hands in terms of sales. If you’re planning to pick up a budget smartphone right now, it’s hard to look further than Redmi 4. At this stage, one can safely say that it’s hard to go wrong with a Xiaomi.
The Xiaomi 12 is the same: it’s a decent phone, with lots of useful features, and it’s a good rival to lots of similar-priced mobiles. In fact it"s one of the best Android phones and certainly one of the best Xiaomi phones. But you’re getting what you pay for, and not a drop more.
The Xiaomi 12 starts at $749 / £749 (roughly AU$1,320). That"s if you want 8GB RAM and 128GB storage - you can bump it up to 256GB for $849 / £849 (around AU$1,500), and power-users might prefer that latter option.
Fair warning for Americans: despite the fact we have a price in US dollars, Xiaomi doesn"t sell phones in the US, so this handset won"t go on sale in the States. The dollar price is likely just a guideline, since it"s a recognizable currency.
Want to know why we"ve compared the Xiaomi 12 so frequently to the Samsung Galaxy S22? Well, that handset costs $799 / £769 / AU$1,249 for 128GB storage, so it"s incredibly close in price. If you"ve got more money to spend, the Xiaomi 12 Pro starts at £1,099 / £1,049 (about AU$1,850).
The resolution is FHD+, or 1080 x 2400 – this is standard for the vast majority of Android phones, only super-premium or super-budget handsets have resolutions above or below this, though it’s worth pointing out that both the Mi 11 and 12 Pro beat it.
The Xiaomi 12 has three rear cameras: there’s a 50MP f/1.9 main, 13MP f/2.4 ultra-wide and 5MP f/2.4 telemacro snapper. For context, that’s the same as the Mi 11 except with that phone’s 108MP snapper replaced with a 50MP one - apparently, Xiaomi deigned to come off its high-res high horse.
Some similar-priced smartphones have telephoto cameras for optical zoom, but there’s no equivalent here, so if you zoom in on the camera app, you’re using digital zoom (basically cropping snaps from the main camera). Pictures up to 2x look fine but travel in at 5x and there’s some grain, which becomes very apparent at the maximum range of 10x.
If you want to record good old ‘normal’ videos, without tricks or effects, you can do so at 8K and 24fps, or 4K at 60fps with extras like HDR, stabilization, digital bokeh, or simple color filters on top. There’s also slow-mo, which goes to a surprisingly slow 1920fps – that is, if you shoot in 720p, if you want to record at 1080p you’re capped at 960fps (which is still certainly slow).
When we put the device through the Geekbench 5 benchmark test, it returned a multi-core score of 3401. For context, the OnePlus 8 Pro got exactly that score, the OnePlus 9 got 3654, the Xiaomi Mi 11 got 3569 and the Realme GT got 3508. Other than the 8 Pro, those phones all packed the predecessor chipset to the 8 Gen 1. Two other handsets we’ve tested with the newer chip, the Oppo Find X5 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, got 3270 and 3417 respectively.
That includes when we were gaming, taking loads of pictures, or using maps all the time. The phone’s 4,500mAh power pack is definitely more than enough, though we imagine that the relatively small display helps too.
Charging is done at 67W if you use a wired charger, and that’s lovely and fast, getting the handset powered from empty to full in less than 40 minutes if you use a good enough charger. Sure, it’s not the 120W of its Pro sibling or even the 80W of the OnePlus 10 Pro or Oppo Find X5 Pro, but it’s much quicker than the 25W of the Samsung Galaxy S22.
If you don’t have much cash to spend on a new smartphone, there are some mid-range offerings that might be just as good for you, from Realme, Honor or even Xiaomi’s own Pocophone and Redmi.
Xiaomi Mi 11The Xiaomi 12"s year-older predecessor is a great choice, especially since it"s seen an extra year of price cuts. It has the same software, fast charging, a higher-res main camera and a bigger, higher-res display.
We pride ourselves on our independence and our rigorous review-testing process, offering up long-term attention to the products we review and making sure our reviews are updated and maintained - regardless of when a device was released, if you can still buy it, it"s on our radar.Xiaomi 12: Price Comparison

The first iPhone, released way back in 2007, featured a 3.5 inch screen with a resolution of 320x480 pixels and 163 DPI. Smartphone screens have come a long way since then, with the latest iPhones offering up to 1242x2688 pixels and 485 DPI (the iPhone XS Max).
We"re not a million miles from the maximum resolution discernible by the human eye. According to FluidUI, that limit is around 2190 DPI for a screen held at 4 inches for an average adult.
There are currently 20+ phones with a refresh rate of 144Hz, including the ASUS ROG Phone 3 and the Xiaomi Mi 10T, and 150+ phones with 120Hz, including the Huawei P50 Pro, OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, and the Samsung Galaxy S21 range. Unless you"re a gamer or power user, a refresh rate of 90Hz should be good enough for daily use. But after 120Hz, the difference in refresh rate is not as noticeable and therefore starts to become redundant.
For an all-around experience, you want a phone with at least a 90Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. This will ensure that your phone works well no matter the task you"re doing.
