gopro lcd screen not working manufacturer
It may be either a loose connection to the LCD screen, that the LCD screen is faulty and needs to be replaced or worst case that there is a fault on the motherboard.
Try shining a torch at an angle close to the LCD screen to check if you can detect an image at all when using the camera. It will be very faint so try it in a darkened room if possible.
If you can detect an image it means that there is a backlight problem with the screen. Either there is no power being supplied from the motherboard to the backlight circuit in the LCD screen or the backlight circuit in the screen is faulty and the screen will have to be replaced as it cannot be repaired. Hopefully it is not a motherboard problem in supplying backlight power to the screen.
If you cannot detect an image (or even if you can) then unfortunately without a schematic, the only way to determine if it is a problem with the screen or the motherboard is to replace one or the other. Again hopefully it is not a motherboard problem.
Here’s a link to a video that shows how to replace the LCD screen + digitizer in the camera. This will also help you to check if the LCD video flex cable connection is OK.
Here’s a link to the GoPro Hero5 Black Repair guides which may also help if the video isn’t clear enough at some points. Unfortunately there is no ifixit guide showing the LCD screen removal.
Make sure the GoPro is charged. Charge the GoPro by using provided USB connector and plugging it into a computer. You can also use the GoPro wall or automobile charger.
If the GoPro still does not charge, please use the microSD/Micro USB Port Assembly Replacement guide to replace your assembly. A poor connection inside the Micro USB port may prevent your GoPro from charging.
Older computers do not have the hardware to support HD playback. Ensure your computer can play the video by checking if it meets the GoPro Studio Software minimum requirements here.
You can have choppy video playback if you play the video streamed from the camera over USB. What this means is if you have the camera connected to a computer by the USB cable and you play the video from the files on the camera, without transferring the file to your computer, it can come out choppy. This is due to the USB connection not being fast enough to play the HD video back in real time. Before playing back a HD video, copy or transfer the file from your GoPro to your computer, then playback the video.
I have the exact same problem. Bought my GoPro 2 weeks ago, used it for 2 weeks... downloaded / updated the firmware this morning using the iPhone app... restarted and now the back / LCD screen doesn"t turn on at all. I chatted with support for 2 hours and they had me manually install the update which I downloaded here:
and then installed by coping the resulting "UPDATE" folder to my SD card, which after a couple tries did take but didn"t fix the problem. I"m left with a 2 week old GoPro that has a non-functioning LCD screen.
I"d put money on the firmware update being the issue as 1) that"s the only thing that"s changed for me since this morning and b) the problem is that the touchscreen isn"t displaying anything at all.
I think I might be having the same issue here. The main screen is getting power as it shows light, and the touchscreen is working according to the front display, yet there is nothing showing on the main screen. The issue started after I had fixed a different issue with the battery and replaced the SD card. I had read that inserting the SD card incorrectly could damage the ribbon cable for the LCD screen, but that can"t be the case for me because I made sure that the SD was in properly. I have attempted to manually update the camera multiple times, but it is impossible to reset it because I can"t see the screen to navigate to the reset option. Have you figured out a fix for it yet?
thanks for your reply. The plastic cover isn’t on the GoPro anymore. I took everything off and my GoPro worked for a whole day, but suddenly my touch sceen didn’t work anymore. I tried to manual update the GoPro as well and I also tried holding the power button for 10 seconds and leaving the battery and SD card out of the GoPro for a while. Nothing works. When I inserted the battery after a while and insert the (on computer formatted) SD card the GoPro was factory reseted. And now I can’t even record anymore because I can’t continue in the setup because my touch screen still doesn’t work. I requested a return and I sent my GoPro back this morning. I ordered a new GoPro fromcameranu.nlbecause I need my GoPro on Friday. Hope this won’t happen to me again and if it does, I will reach out again, hoping there is a solution for this issue.
I just got a GoPro 10 and have the same issue. I tried checking the settings off the main menu mentioned in the other reply, but they don"t seem to make a difference except when I select the icon with the x, then the backlight on the front screen goes out. If I set it to one of the other front screen function icons, the backlight comes on, but no content or status is displayed. I have tried resetting all presets, then factory reset; still doesn"t work. Oddly, the icon for the front screen on the main menu never toggles to indicate it"s on (blue instead of gray) no matter how many times I press it or what is selected on its submenu. I did take a firmware update right out of the box to v21 when I got it a few days ago. I don"t know if I can roll back to check if that helps.
Make sure that the front screen is not turned off. To verify, swipe down on the rear/touch screen display and look for the square icon, and tap on it. There would be four options for status. Make sure it is not X. Let us know what you find out. Thanks!
I"m having a major issue wtih my GoPro Hero 7 Black. I turned it on yeasterday and out of the blue the touch screen was not working, completly unresponsive to any tap. The power button and the capture button are working fine.
My Hero 7 seems to power on but doesn"t get the LCD screen to come on, on the back. The small screen on the front just displays Black 7 and doesn"t ever get to the normal screen you see when shoting video. Here is what I have tried:
When I turn on my GoPro Hero8 screen does not turn on. The issue began when I was charging the GoPro and auto uploading the footage. At one point, I tried to press stop on the fotage upload, but the touch screen was not responding (I wanted to check the battery percentage). I was able to stop the charge at one point, turned off the camera and from that moment on when I turned it back on, the LCD no longer turned on. I submitted a ticket and received a call back--was told to hold the mode/power button for 8 seconds, and voila, the camera"s display turned on. I got off the call, recorded a video, then recorded a second one. When I turned it back on to replay it, the LCD no longer work. I attempted the 8 second button hold to no avail.
Brand new out of the box, got a similar issue! My touch screen is black, the front screen is lit but not showing any info. The reset doesn"t work. I can"t believe after paying so much for this, it just doesn"t work!! After reading other comments, GoPro clearly has a massive issue with quality checking their new products before they leave the factory and then maybe they also send out returned products too.
Press back mode once, then 5 times, for wireless connection, Press Shutter once, will say conn new device, press shutter once. be on gopro app, press back mode once, change from app to Check, press shutter once and it is PAIRING ( you have 3 minutes, to set up your App via the smartphone and that is it.
When I power it on, the screen looks normal (no cracks, and all information is displayed) but I can"t touch or swipe on it. When I hit record the screen changes as it should and the mode button works.

I have the same problem with a gopro I bought off ebay, no receipt included. Someone just sold me a faulty gopro for 300€ and now I’m trying to return it. Theres some real bastards out there. Of course gopro support won’t replace it. Probably he won’t take it back and I wasted 300€ what a sad world we live in. Btw these are related to faulty gopro mainboard deliveries, you can’t even update firmware here. I think gopro is selling mass faulty ware and support is so bad people people just try to get rid of them. I will sell it on ebay again on a different username in case my lawsuit against the seller doesn’t go thru. Gonna wreck someone elses vacation lol. Thanks gopro. My suggestion is buy other action cams not gopros they are currently just not worth the trouble.
