CONRAC introduces a new IP 65 protected LCD/TFT display in “stretched” format, which has been specially designed for continuous use in strenuous environments.
The display features a diagonal of 38” (97cm) with an aspect ratio of 4:1 and a resolution of 1920 x 502 pixels. This equals so to speak the top half of a 42” display, thus providing the ideal format for use in applications with limited space where conventional displays cannot not be used. Examples are low passage ways, above or next to doors, in baggage handling systems, parking garages, at bus stops, etc.
With its high definition sunlight-readable display panel offering a brightness of 1000 cd/m² and a contrast ratio of 1200:1, the 6938 PD provides excellent readability.
The stretched displays are available with an integrated IPC (Industrial PC). Designed for 24/7 operation, this embedded solution offers an extremely reliable platform in networked applications. The high performance IPC is based on the latest low-power embedded technology. Remote monitor control allows monitoring and control of display settings such as stand-by, brightness and contrast. It also provides information such as temperature, maintenance status etc. Alternatively integrated controller boards or monitor-only versions can be supplied.
The display’s IP65-rated housing and safety glass panel with high efficiency anti-glare and contrast enhancing treatment provide anti-vandal protection as well as resistance to moisture and dust. For extreme temperatures, a display heating with internal climate control can be integrated.

DATA MODUL has launched a variety of new products at Munich"s inter airport Europe held in October 2015. On the booth the entire range of CONRAC professional displays for all kinds of applications in public areas was showcased.
The most noticeable innovation was the prominently placed 55in real outdoor display. The new series of real outdoor displays comes with a lot of technical ingenuities. Even in Munich Expo"s modern bright halls, the display mounted in portrait format stood out from the crowd due to its truly impressive brightness. The difference between the already very crisp and clear image of the "standard" E-LED screens shown on the booth in direct comparison with the real outdoor display"s ultra-high brightness panel was quite astonishing.
This effect was not reached with just the 2.500 cd/m² TFT panel. A unique combination of a front glass with special features and optical bonding technology, plus the core know-how and competence of DATA MODUL, have enabled the development of a high brightness display solution that can be easily mounted in locations with direct sunlight without compromising the readability.
The front glass has been designed to enhance transmission of visible light with minimum reflection losses, as well as to provide protection against infrared and ultraviolet radiation. The TFT panel is directly bonded to the front glass using a high-quality optically matched adhesive. The direct optical bonding eliminates the air gap between front glass and panel, eliminating any internal reflection losses and achieving a significant increase in contrast and brightness. As well as enhanced optical performance, the optical bonding brings additional benefits including increased ruggedness, reduced sensitivity to humidity, dust and temperature fluctuations as well as high durability.
The greatest challenge in the development of real outdoor displays is the operating temperature of such devices, especially in combination with high brightness displays driven under full load. At present, most currently available devices have to dim the backlight to a certain level to reduce the inner temperature and keep the device in operation as soon as the sun shines directly on the device.
DATA MODUL announced that they solved this problem with their innovative integrated cooling technology, so that the real outdoor displays can be operated at environmental conditions of +50°C and direct sunlight without even dimming the backlight. This provides customers with completely new usage of display systems under extreme ambient conditions such as visual docking guidance displays or at rail, tram and bus stops. Additionally, the existing intelligent heating system of the Advanced Protected series was further developed and enables operating temperatures down to -30°C.
The entire unit is IP65 protected, thanks to watertight and fine dust resistant sealing. Avoidance of external elements like fans or filters makes the device maintenance free. The device is equipped with the well-established CONRAC display functions such as automatic brightness adjustment.
The real outdoor displays are scheduled to be ready for series production by the beginning of the third quarter of 2016. Later in the year a 46in version of the real outdoor display will be launched, just in time for Innotrans 2016 in Berlin in September. Engineering samples are available for demonstration purposes at Munich (headquarters) or Weikersheim (factory).
Since 1993 we offer LCDs and LCD system solutions. We are always up to date with the latest technology and are looking for the best products for our customers. Our TFT display range includes high-quality displays:
For more than 20 years, Conrac GmbH has been manufacturing approved CRT displays for high performance professional application in the medical, military and maritime industries. During this time, a great number of monitors have been manufactured which meet the requirements of MIL Spec, radar, IEC 60936, IEC 60945-3, IEC 61172 ECDIS, and GL approval, and are still in operation today. The same is currently happening with Conrac"s approved range of TFT LCD monitors.
Developed specifically for maritime applications, a range of TFT monitors has been developed and several more models are in the pipeline. Conrac, a Data Modul company, is unique in that all controller electronics for its monitors are developed and manufactured in-house, which translates to single-source accountability. Another key point: all of the company"s units also have a modular based platform, meaning that the interface boards, LVDS adapters, dimmable backlight inverters, and software in each of its TFT product line (15-in., 17-in., 18-in., 19-in., 23-in.) are used across the board, a trend that will continue with the company"s newly developed 30-in. and 40-in. TFT display. While all of this means a strong degree of reliability and compatibility for the end customer, it also give the manufacturer a strong advantage with OEM customers, as it is able to easily implement special requirements and changes from customers, giving it a high degree of flexibility. Data Modul, located in Islandia, NY, is the sales agent for Conrac GmbH. Conrac GmbH is located in Weikersheim, Germany, where it operates a 180,000-sq. ft. modern production facility which can produce 4,000 TFT and 8,000 plasma displays per month.
