You may also want to look at the ADT Tools Smart app for some additional integration with the panel. It expands many actions that are based on ADT Activity.

@tgauchat was right in that the panel doesn’t allow you any control of the Smartthings side unit. If you want to control that you need either something like Action Tiles, or a mobile phone with the Smartthings App.

At CES 2021, the technology giant unveiled SmartThings Cooking, a new app function that connects its various products, and a new lineup of kitchen appliances that help you surface new recipes, shop for the ingredients, and even prep and cook a meal. SmartThings Cooking can recommend recipes that fit your tastes and dietary restrictions, then build weekly meal plans to match, Samsung says. And here’s the cool part: As you’re cooking, it sends recipe instructions directly to synced Samsung cooking devices — so a Samsung Family Hub fridge can order groceries and send a signal to the latest slide-in range to start preheating, while the fridge’s built-in LCD screen will guide you through every step of meal prep.

Yes, the concept of guided cooking is a little weird, but it also feels like a natural conclusion for the connected kitchen. Imagine a world where a pan tells the stove that it’s too hot for a given recipe? Or a pot that can work with your range to come to a boil but never to boil over? There’s plenty of innovation yet to come in the kitchen – and SmartThings Cooking seems like a great step down the road.

Samsung SmartThings might not be the only smart home control and automation platform on the market, but it’s certainly one of the best. With excellent user-friendliness and tons of SmartThings compatible devices, it’s a fantastic choice for beginners and serious tech-heads alike. Smart thermostats have become increasingly popular. Even renters can upgrade to a smart thermostat. For SmartThings users, there are plenty of options to pick from. Check out the best Samsung SmartThings thermostat choices in 2022!

SmartThings is a user-friendly yet extremely robust ecosystem for controlling and monitoring connected devices. There are plenty of Samsung SmartThings-compatible devices such as light bulbs and cameras or video doorbells. A SmartThings network relies on a central hub. Individual gadgets in turn communicate with the smart home hub as well as with one another. Then, various manual commands may be sent to power devices on and off or change specific settings. Plus, you can configure different automations such as automatically turning on lights at a certain time or switching a thermostat to an away profile when you leave the house with your handset.

Several different Internet of Things communication protocols exist. Samsung SmartThings uses both Z-Wave and Zigbee. Although many Zigbee and Z-Wave products should remain compatible with Samsung’s smart home platform, SmartThings certified products are guaranteed to work. Both ZigBee and Z-Wave offer benefits, with Z-Wave featuring a longer mesh network range and fewer congestion issues, whereas ZigBee is an open standard and less power-hungry.

The ecobee SmartThermostat isn’t just the best overall Samsung SmartThings thermostat money can buy. It’s the best connected thermostat period. Onboard, you’ll find Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant. Build quality is superb, with a premium glass finish and a lovely touchscreen interface. There’s a powerful quad-core processor which makes for a snappy experience. Dual-band Wi-Fi wireless networking and a far-field microphone are built-in.

Aside from Samsung SmartThings compatibility, the ecobee SmartThermostat features integrations for Apple Home Kit, IFTTT, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa. The ecobee SmartThermostat with voice control iterates on the ecobee4 which I have installed in my home. It adds Alexa calling capabilities, Spotify Connect compatibility, and Bluetooth streaming. On the connectivity side, an ecobee SmartSensor is bundled. Installation is a breeze and documentation is top-notch. At just shy of $300 USD, it’s a bit expensive. To save a bit of cash, you could snag the ecobee4 which touts most of the same functionality as the ecobee SmartThermostat with voice control. Alternatively, the ecobee3 and ecobee3 Lite are cost-effective connected thermostat options. But if you’re willing to plunk down the cash, the ecobee SmartThermostat with voice control is hands-down the greatest SmartThings thermostat for most users.

A well-known name in heating and cooling, Honeywell’s Total Connect thermostat works with SmartThings. It’s got a full-color touchscreen and Wi-Fi built-in. It’s controllable via web app or Android and iOS apps. Set up is fairly straightforward. Its rectangular shape mimics the look of a traditional non-smart thermostat, but its vivid color display is pleasing to the eye. Its home screen features tons of information including the current indoor temperature, humidity, outside temperature, date and time.

Installation isn’t necessarily difficult, although the Honeywell Total Connect does require a C wire. So if you don’t have a C wire already installed, you’ll need to find a workaround. That’s not a major issue, but it does make the Honeywell Total Connect better for power users and confident do-it-yourselfers (DIYers) rather than fresh newcomers. Everyday use is incredibly simple whether via one of the corresponding apps or on the Honeywell thermostat itself. Aside from manual control, you can configure the Total Control smart thermostat to learn your habits, similar to a Nest learning thermostat. In addition to basic settings, tons of power user options are available for the likes of fan control. For a no-frills SmartThings thermostat, the Honeywell Z-Wave thermostat is a simplified connected thermostat. You might also consider the Honeywell Lyric T5 or the Nest lookalike Lyric Round. User-friendly, affordable at under $150, and extremely capable, the Honeywell Total Control SmartThings-compatible thermostat is an excellent upgrade for any home.

Electric baseboards are excellent for heating but notoriously difficult for smart thermostat functionality. The Stelpro Maestro smart home thermostat however boasts electric baseboard compatibility. What’s more, it works well on 120V, 208V, and 240V systems. There’s multi-zone capability and it’s an easily programmed ZigBee thermostat. Disappointingly, unlike many competing thermostats, the Stelpro Maestro lacks learning capabilities. And it only packs ZigBee, so the Maestro can’t communicate with anything other than SmartThings and ZigBee products. The Stelpro Ki is a bit dumbed down compared to the Maestro, although a great sub-$100 ZigBee thermostat. Still, for anyone with electric baseboards seeking a compatible smart thermostat, the Stelpro Maestro is a solid buy.

The Zen Thermostat is a fantastic budget smart thermostat. It’s well under $100, installation is a breeze, and its simplified LED screen remains crisp, clear, and easy to read. Both ZigBee and Wi-Fi are on board for a range of connectivity options. The matrix LED display shows the indoor temperature and whether the HVAC is heating or cooling. Using buttons four different buttons, you can change what’s on the display by scrolling up, down, left, and right. While additional power is required, in the absence of a C-wire you can just use four AA batteries instead. Aside from SmartThings compatibility, the Zen Hub works with Amazon Alexa. However, lack of a hub means you’ll need to use its interface which, while uncluttered, can be a pain to navigate. Competitively priced and user-friendly to the extreme, the Zen thermostat is perfect for beginners and smart home enthusiasts alike.

If you need the power of SmartThings to go, the aptly-named GoControl Z-Wave connected thermostat is an excellent, and unique, choice. It’s battery-powered for unrivaled portability. There’s Z-Wave connectivity built-in, and it’s compatible with a host of different HVAC systems including standard 2-stage HVAC configurations and heat pump HVAC systems with 3-stage heating and 2-stage cooling. In addition to SmartThings hub compatibility, the GoControl functions with Amazon Alexa. For an older home without modern wiring or a rental where retrofits aren’t possible, the GoControl is an awesome portable SmartThings thermostat.

A smart thermostat is one of the best upgrades you can make. My ecobee4 has netted me cost savings, plus I’ve configured a range of different automations for adjusting the temperature as I come and go. While traveling, I’ve been able to turn the heat or air conditioning up in transit so that my home is at my desired temperature upon arrival. And SmartThings simplifies the connected device journey. If you want the best SmartThings thermostat, go for an ecobee. Honeywell makes a top-contender as well, and the Zen is a great cheap smart thermostat. If you require portability, the GoControl is a unique thermostat that won’t break the bank.

So I often find myself checking out the competition. A friend needed a recommendation for a smart thermostat for his Samsung SmartThings setup, and so I set to work doing the research to determine the Best SmartThings Thermostat.

If you’re in a rush, my recommendation is the Ecobee Smart Thermostat, with its robust construction, great integration with SmartThings and with other Ecobee devices, Spotify compatibility, and its ability to learn your behavior and adjust the temperature accordingly.Ecobee Smart Thermostat – Best feature packed smart thermostat

Stelpro Maestro Smart Thermostat is popular for its top-of-the-notch baseboard and heat fan compatibility accompanied by a terrific rapport with SmartThings.

Features like auto heat/cool change that allow the thermostat to adjust itself not just to the temperature that was set, but to adjust the temperature according to the ambient outside temperature would be ideal and would be the easiest to automate with SmartThings.

Wi-Fi is a given, for control using SmartThings or a proprietary app. Features like Zigbee and Dual-band Wi-Fi are worth investing in for connection with additional accessories for cool automation routines like outdoor thermometers or weather stations, to adjust the temperature according to the weather outside.

One major thing to note: the prices aren’t 100% accurate. While the Samsung SmartThings system is sometimes purchased on its own, the Wink Home Hub usually comes as part of a $200 starter kit that includes motion sensors, sirens and chimes, and door and window sensors.

On a purely inch-by-inch basis, SmartThings is smaller and has a more sleek look than the Wink. Smart home technology has become quite aesthetically pleasing, but the classic square techno-block look that describes both SmartThings and Wink doesn’t really look great.

While many smart home devices blend in among decor, both of these hubs will stand out. If you don’t want to display your hub for all the world to see, then the SmartThings is likely the better choice.

The multipurpose sensors can be used to automatically turn on lights when doors are opened, alert you to open windows, and much more. The SmartThings motion sensor can also be used to trigger lights when motion is detected, or to act as a subtle home security tool that alerts you if it picks up unexpected motion.

Ultimately, the hub you choose comes down to your personal preferences, but our recommendation is the SmartThings Hub. Samsung is a company with a long-established reputation for quality, the starter kit is a better value, and the inclusion of a battery failsafe makes it more reliable in our book.

Most notably, the new Samsung Home Hub, an 8.4-inch tablet that effectively acts as a SmartThings dashboard and a control panel for all your connected Samsung appliances.

Under the categories of Cooking, Clothing Care, Pet, Air, Energy and Home Care Wizard, it all looks a lot like the big display you get on the Family Hub smart fridge range, with panels and widgets to control your smart home devices and to dive into things like recipes and wash-load breakdowns.

Back in October at the Samsung Developer Conference, the Korean company revealed that users will be able to control Matter-enabled devices using not only SmartThings hubs, but through smart TVs and the Family Hub smart fridge line-up.

It"s encouraging that Samsung is clearly trying to make it easier than ever to control a SmartThings smart home setup; a setup that will be more versatile than ever with Matter on board.

It expanded on that at CES 2022, where it was revealed that SmartThings Hub software will be included in select 2022 Samsung Smart TVs, Smart Monitors and Family Hub refrigerators.

Currently you need a dedicated SmartThings smart home hub, such as the discontinued Samsung one, or the newer Aeotec one to create a SmartThings smart home system.

Obviously the idea of a smart display to control your smart home isn"t new; the likes of Creston and Control4 have offered dedicated, bespoke, panels for years and, in the last couple of years, we"ve seen smart speakers with screens launched that offer touchscreen controls for Alexa and Google Home smart homes.

If the Home Hub itself is a SmartThings Hub (i.e. it has Zigbee / Z-Wave / Matter radios) and doesn"t need a separate hub to connect to SmartThings devices, we can certainly see the appeal.

From the SmartThings App, tap the add button "+" at the upper right corner and select "Device". Under "By Brand" locate "XXX Smart" and tap any device category to continue forward. Tap "Next" and enter your "XXX Smart" account and password on the authorization page to complete the setup.

You can now control your device through SmartThings App and use Bixby (Samsung mobile phone voice assistant) to voice control your connected devices.

Samsung SmartThings is a multi-protocol smart home hub that supports the most popular smart home devices. As we’ve seen in this article, there is a tradeoff. It supports these core-functionally very well, however you cannot tweak configuration parameters which give you full control over your Z-Wave devices.

Those determined to access the parameters can do so by tinkering with device handlers from GitHub and working with the SmartThings IDE, however this is not a project for the faint-hearted and requires a significant degree of tech-savviness.

If you are looking for a multi-protocol smart home hub that fully supports Z-Wave devices, Homey provides device handlers (with configuration parameters) and an even greater number of devices that SmartThings.
