Dyson is a leader in the vacuum game with their top-notch technology and user-friendly designs. We even named their V8 Absolute one of the best vacuums at one point. They continuously make reliable, easy-to-use, and powerful vacuums, and with their latest release, the V15 Detect, they’ve created their most intelligent vacuum yet. But does a gadget meant to pick up dirt and grime need to be so smart?

Dyson has included tons of versatile attachments for all-purpose cleaning with the V15 Detect vacuum. The Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head can be removed for a more basic Digital Motorbar, which I use as my default attachment. The Digital Motorbar effectively picks up dust and long hair from carpet and hardwood floors. I have been most impressed with its anti-tangle properties. My roommate and I both have long hair that can hide in our carpet. The Motorbar picks up all of our hair without clogging the suction source, something that has happened with other vacuums I’ve used in the past.

My other favorite tool is the combination one. I’ve used that for cleaning my baseboard and in hard-to-reach cracks. Most of the other attachments have sat collecting dust in my cleaning supplies storage corner. While Dyson makes it extremely easy to affix all of their attachments, my laziness gets the better of me and I stick to what I know. I’m already cleaning my floors, I can’t be bothered to figure out which is the upholstery attachment to clean a couch that I carried off of the streets of New York for free.

In my testing, I found that the laser performed best in dark or dimly lit rooms. In areas with natural light or overhead lights, it was hardly useful. I also found that the Slim Laser Fluffy attachment featured noticeably less suction than the Motorbar. I also didn’t understand its mission. It illuminates the path of the vacuum meaning it lights up dust I’m already planning to roll over. During my six months of testing the V15 Detect, I never opted for this attachment when I actually wanted to clean my floors. It was a fun party gag to show off to friends, but I was so impressed with the Motorbar I never wanted to take it off.

The actual “scientific proof” of a deep clean displayed on the screen proved less useful. Frankly, before writing this review, I didn’t really even know what the little bars represented. Yes, I could have read the manual or conducted a quick Google search, but ultimately the proof of a deep clean is in the pudding, or in this case, the floor. My carpet has truly never looked so fluffy and fresh and I could see how much dirt and hair was collecting in the dustbin after even a five-minute clean of what looked to me like a mostly clean floor. If you’re super into gadgets, perhaps this is a fun upgrade, but it’s not crucial to the performance of the V15 Detect.

While I absolutely loved the power and suction on this vacuum, it’s not entirely necessary to buy. Dyson makes other stick vacuums that are almost as high-powered for a much lower price. The intelligent features on the V15 Detect went mostly unused or under-appreciated. The average vacuum user doesn’t need cleaning reports or lasers, they just want something that will quickly and effectively clean their floors. This vacuum certainly did that, but the upgrades make for a high price without much payoff.

Dyson’s newest vacuum isn’t one for subtlety. It has a laser strapped to the front of it for the purpose of highlighting where the dust is hiding. The Dyson V15 Detect is the company’s newest, top-of-the-line cordless vacuum in its line of stick vacuums. It’s more powerful than my own Xiaomi stick vac (and the Dyson V6 I owned several years ago), while swapping out the cleaning heads makes it suitable for both carpets and hard floors (or a mix of both, like my own). However, that versatility and sheer cleaning power (ugh, did I just write those words together?) will cost you $699. Are those high-tech additions gimmicks or truly helpful upgrades for a cleaner home?

I’ve spent a couple of weeks with the V15, and my rugs, carpet and hardwood floors are cleaner than they have ever been — barring a mop. It makes a compelling case for high-end stick vacuums.

While there are several notable features on the V15 Detect, let’s start with the showiest one, the laser ‘blade’ light on the cleaning head. It’s there to visibly show you that your Dyson vacuum is cleaning your floors. Due to the angle the laser is aimed at, it “cuts” across the floor at a 7.2mm level. This is the perfect height, apparently, for highlighting your dust bunnies.

Any illusions I had of keeping a remotely clean home were dashed. I knew my rug sheds fine fibers pretty easily. I didn’t know how easily they evaded my old stick vacuums. For the sake of testing the V15, I vacuumed my floors with my Xiaomi vacuum, then I went back over the same areas with the V15. Besides my carpeted bedroom, it’s a one-room hardwood floor situation, making it ideal for Dyson’s laser feature.

The next major feature is an evolution of the see-through dust canisters that became de rigueur in nearly all stick vacuums, and several plug-in upright models. (Dyson had a hand in that trend.) Seeing what you’ve managed to pull from your floors is surprisingly satisfying.

Dyson took this further. A new piezo acoustic sensor detects both size and frequency of the dust and other particles you"re collecting. The sensor turns the tiny vibrations of dust particles hitting a surface inside the cleaning head into electrical signals. Carbon fibers then roughly measure these microscopic particles, which are, Dyson says, counted at up to 15,000 times a second. From this, the V15 can display a particle count of your clean on an LCD display on the back of the vacuum, laying out whether you’re sucking up lots of larger particles or finer dust.

Let’s be honest: the size of particles doesn’t really help improve my cleaning — nor does knowing that I’ll pull in millions of particles every time I swing the V15 through my home. You can reset this count when it recharges or by slipping the battery pack out. I guess you could attempt to either hit a new high score each time you clean, or try to generally reduce your scores for some kind of proof of cleaner floors. I’m not quite sold.

The acoustic piezo sensor also adjusts the V15’s cyclone engine to better clean your floors. Last year’s V11 adjusted its suction when it detected carpet or rug fibers, but the V15 is even smarter. On Auto mode , these particle counts will change how much power the V15 puts into cleaning. If it detects higher levels of tiny detritus, it increases the suction itself.

Beneath the LCD display that shows those particle counts, there’s a button that switches the V15 between three different suction modes. We’ve already mentioned Auto, which was my de facto setting most of the time. Eco should extend the battery life for up to an hour, according to Dyson’s estimates. At the other end of the scale, there’s Boost mode, which puts Dyson’s cyclone engine on full power. Handily, as you switch between modes the vacuum offers battery life estimates in minutes that dynamically changes depending on which mode’s being used .At maximum power, that time will understandably plummet. But with a full battery, it seemed to hover around the 20-minute mark for Boost cleaning. Auto mode promised roughly 45 minutes of use with a fully charged battery.

The “detect” innovations aside, this a very powerful vacuum, on par with other plugin vacuum cleaners many times bigger and heavier. It is definitely the most powerful vacuum I’ve ever used. Consumer Reports and Wirecutter have made similar remarks about the V15 — and they review far more vacuums than I.

We don’t test nearly every vacuum that Dyson makes, so I can’t offer a comparison to last year’s model, even if it looks awfully similar to the V11 — and costs the same. The 6.8-pound V15 is noticeably heavier than the 4.6-pound V6 that I’m used to. I wouldn’t call it unwieldy, but besides the need to constantly pull the trigger to activate, it can get a little more tiring. With all this power, though, I felt I rarely had to run over the same area twice.

Dyson has added a single button start to some of its newest vacuums, but that didn’t include the V15 Detect, sadly. You’ll still have to hold down the trigger — and keep it held down — until you’re done cleaning, adding to the effort needed.

The V15 is a total beast at extracting ingrained dust and dirt in carpets and rugs — areas where the laser doesn’t even work, due to the uneven surface. Using the high torque cleaner head, what looked like a perfectly clean rug was hiding a half canister of rug and fiber. Ew — thanks, Dyson. This cleaning head also has a new anti-tangle comb built-in for households with pets, or people with longer hair than my crew cut. I wasn’t able to test out whether it cut through clumped-together hair, but the V15 also comes with yet another accessory dedicated the challenge, a hair screw tool. It looks hypnotic in action.

It feels weird to consider a high-end vacuum as a luxury, or even a treat. But honestly, that’s how it felt when I was using it: reliable, powerful, and habit-forming. The V15 Detect is the same price as the V11, but it does more to demonstrate to the user that your floors are being cleaned, ruthlessly. It’s also not the company’s most expensive stick vacuum, with that honor going to the $800 V11 Outsize, which has a bigger dust compartment and cleaning head.

I’m explaining away the V15’s asking price, but this remains a high-end vacuum for people willing to stump up for it. I own a PlayStation 5, an overpriced manual espresso machine, an Instant Pot, even an iPhone 12 Pro Max. It’s that kind of product, and it’s hard to argue against how well this cleans my carpets and rugs, too. My floors have probably never been cleaner, and the lasers prove it.

Performance tests:The Dyson V15 notched nearly perfect scores in our performance tests, including Excellent ratings for cleaning carpet and bare floors and picking up pet hair. It scarfed up the sand, rice, and cereal we scattered on carpet; removed litter from tile floors; and attacked the pet hair in a medium-pile carpet.

It also runs quietly, earning an Excellent rating in that test, and is just as quiet as the three top stick vacuums in our tests, all from Tineco. Its brandmate, the Dyson V11 Outsize, which scores a point lower, is a bit noisier.

Runtime is a big factor for cordless vacuums, and the Dyson V15 runs for about 70 minutes per charge on low and 8 minutes on high. That’s on par with the other late-model Dyson cordless stick vacs and longer than many of the other brands of cordless vacuums in our tests. The battery takes 5 hours to recharge, which is typical for many cordless vacuums. The V15 comes with one battery, but you can buy an extra separately for $150 if you prefer to always have a backup charged to ensure an uninterrupted cleaning session.

According to data from CR’s exclusive member survey, none of the brands of cordless stick vacuums we rate earns a reliability rating better than a middling Good. Dyson cordless stick vacuums earn a Fair rating for reliability.

In short: the difference between the Dyson V15 Detect, Absolute and Complete is the accessories you get. The Dyson V15 Detect Complete (Extra) is the most comprehensive package. View the prices here.

If there is a vacuum cleaner brand that offers many different vacuum cleaners, it is Dyson. Dyson not only has a lot of comparable vacuum cleaners: even from a certain type of vacuum cleaner there are many different choices to be made.

This is also the case, for example, with the Dyson V15 Detect, better known as the Dyson with green laser. When buying a Dyson V15 Detect, you can choose from different packages, including a Dyson V15 Absolute (Extra) and a Dyson V15 Complete (Extra). In this article I explain exactly what the difference is and you find out which one is best for you.

What is also unique about the Dyson V15 is that it is equipped with a so-called Piezo sensor. The Dyson’s LCD screen shows you exactly what you’re vacuuming and automatically adjusts the suction power if necessary.

In my extensive Dyson V15 review, this turned out to work well and I was very satisfied with this stick vacuum. In fact, in my opinion it is the best stick vacuum cleaner at the moment.

When you want to buy a Dyson vacuum cleaner, you will soon be faced with many choices. It was no coincidence that I wrote a very large manual on ‘Which Dyson to buy?‘, where I listed all packages per stick vacuum.

If you are planning to purchase a Dyson V15 Detect, you can choose from an Absolute and a Complete package. And, to make it even more difficult, there is also an ‘Extra’ version of these packages. So, a Dyson V15 Detect Absolute, Absolute Extra, Complete, and Complete Extra. If you are planning to purchase a Dyson V15 Detect, you can choose from an Absolute and a Complete package.

The difference between the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute vs Complete is the number and type of accessories you get. It is important to delve into this thoroughly. For example, you don’t get a tangle-free mini brush with every package, which can be on your wish list if you have a pet.

I’ve done research into the different Dyson V15 packages and listed all the accessories you get per package below.Dyson V15 DetectAbsolute (Extra)Complete (Extra)Fluffy Detect floor brush✓✓✓

Would you like to learn more about a specific accessory? In the article ‘Dyson parts‘ I have listed all accessories and discuss what you can use it for.

The answer to the question of which to choose, the V15 Absolute or the Complete, depends on your needs. For example, if you have a lot of carpet on the floor, a motorized Torque floor brush is a must-have. The same applies to a mini turbo brush: if you have a dog or cat walking around the house, such a motorized mini brush is very handy.

Are there a lot of accessories that you don’t use? Then that can be a shame, because you do pay for this. In this case, you might want to consider building your Dyson yourself. Vacuumtester.com discovered that this can save hundreds of euros. Note: instead of a two-year warranty, you only have a one-year warranty when you buy all parts separately.

In short:the latest Dyson Gen5 Detect has some interesting improvements over the Dyson V15, but costs twice as much. If you want the best of the best, the Dyson Gen5 Detect is the best choice. Want a good Dyson but not the highest price? Then the Dyson V15 still satisfies as a worthy alternative. The Dyson Gen5 is not yet available in the United States, view the Dyson V15 Detect here.

Recently, the new Dyson Gen5 Detect was announced. The vacuum cleaner is the successor to the Dyson V15 Detect. The Gen5Detect is called the “most powerful cordless stick vacuum” by Dyson.

I decided to compare the Dyson Gen5Detect with the Dyson V15 Detect based on the information that came out. In this article I list the biggest differences and similarities.

Let’s start with the biggest differences between the new Dyson Gen5 Detect and the previously launched Dyson V15 Detect. I would like to emphasize that I have extensively tested the Dyson V15 Detect, but not the Dyson Gen5 Detect yet. I am using the specifications Dyson shared with the announcement.

There is a big difference in accessories. The Dyson Gen5 Detect is equipped with an integrated dust brush and crevice tool. As soon as you remove the vacuum cleaner rod from the Gen5 Detect, an extendable dusting brush appears. This is not the case with the Dyson V15 Detect.

If we look at the operation, it seems at first glance to be the same. Yet the opposite is true: where you have to hold down the button on the Dyson V15 Detect to be able to vacuum, the Dyson Gen5 Detect has an on/off button.

Why Dyson has decided to omit this so-called trigger button from the Dyson Gen5 is unknown. Many people will be happy with this development: I receive daily questions about whether the button can be locked, which is why I wrote an article about a Dyson Trigger lock. Allows you to lock the trigger buttons. That is no longer necessary with the Gen5.

The LCD screen of both the V15 and the Gen5 also provides information about what you are vacuuming. However, with the Gen5, this information is displayed slightly differently. You get to see exactly what you are vacuuming with sliding bars back and forth. For example, you can decide to keep vacuuming the carpet for a while if a lot of pollen is detected. The Gen5 is also able to notify you when a surface is clean enough. The Dyson V15 cannot and does not do this.

The battery life of Dyson stick vacuums can vary considerably. Where I registered a battery life of only 25 minutes in the Dyson V8 review, this is about an hour with the Dyson V15. According to Dyson, the maximum battery life of the Dyson Gen5 Detect would be about 70 minutes with normal use. This would make it the Dyson with the longest battery life!

If you’re looking for the best lightweight vacuum cleaner, you’ll probably be better off opting for the Dyson V15. This weighs about 3 kilograms, which is half a kilogram lighter than the Gen5 Detect: Dyson reports a weight level of 3.5 kilograms with the announcement.

If we zoom in on the price, there is a huge difference. At $ 930, the Dyson Gen5 Detect costs a lot more than the Dyson V15 Detect ($ 750). Prices may vary based on included accessories. Would you like to learn more about the parts? Check out my comprehensive guide with an explanation of all Dyson parts.

It is of course the big question whether the Dyson Gen5 is such a good successor to the V15 that it is worth the enormous price. It is therefore good to consider the similarities of both Dyson stick vacuums.

The addition of the word ‘Detect’ in both product names reveals that they both use laser technology. Both the Dyson V15 and Gen5 come with a floor brush with laser technology. I think it’s a great development: in my review I found the laser technology to be of added value. You can really see the dust on the floor better and skip parts of the floor less quickly. Both the Dyson V15 and Gen5 come with a floor brush with laser technology.

Curious what this looks like in real life? Then watch the Dyson V15 Detect review video below.I need your help! Subscribe to my YouTube channelso that I can continue to conduct reliable vacuum cleaner research and provide you with honest information.

Both the Dyson Gen5 and Dyson V15 have a built-in Piezo sensor. This sensor measures and detects specific particles that are sucked up. You can think of pollen, allergens and dust particles. The piezo sensor also makes it possible to adjust the suction power automatically: for example, if an extra number of allergens are measured.

Both Dyson vacuum cleaners have a dust capacity of 0.77 liters. This is average in the world of stone vacuum cleaners. A Dyson that has a much larger dust capacity is the Dyson Outsize.

With a dust capacity of 0.77 liters, you have to take into account that you have to empty the vacuum cleaner regularly. Speaking of maintenance: that is also the same with both stick vacuums. You can easily – and in the same way – empty them above the trash. Also the maintenance of the filter: you can clean or replace the Dyson filter by unscrewing it.

The big question now is, of course, which of the two stick vacuums is best to choose. Let me first say that you make a very good choice with both the Dyson Gen5 Detect and the Dyson V15. Especially in the field of allergies, because of the good filtration of both stick vacuums.

The Dyson Gen5 Detect is better than the V15 in a few features: there is an integrated handheld vacuum and with the new Fluffy Optic laser floor brush you can detect dust on the floor twice as well. With the new Gen5 you also get to see in real time what you are vacuuming and when the surface is clean enough to continue.

However, the Dyson V15 also provides information about what you vacuum, there is also a Piezo sensor and the operation of the vacuum cleaners – except for the lack of a trigger button on the Gen5 – is almost the same.

In summary:In my opinion, the Dyson Gen5 Detect is actually an improvement on the Dyson V15. In many areas: the filtration system, the user interface and accessories. However, the price is a huge difference. Do you want the best of the best? Then the choice for the new Gen5 is quickly made. Do you simply want a good Dyson vacuum cleaner, but not pay the full price? Then the Dyson V15 is still a worthy opponent!

Given the popularity of Dyson"s newest vacuum, Dyson V15 Black Friday deals were exceptionally hard to come by last year, and the situation wasn"t helped by supply chain issues that meant major retailers couldn"t replenish already limited stock.

This year, though, the picture is a little different. Black Friday deals are appearing in abundance, and Dyson’s best cordless vacuum is much easier to get your hands on. We"re tracking the best Black Friday vacuum cleaner deals on a separate page, but here, we"ll be focusing Black Friday Dyson V15 Detect deals, specifically.

Before you read on, it"s worth remembering that Dyson model names vary slightly between regions. In the US, you"ll want to be looking out for either the Dyson V15 Detect or Dyson V15 Detect Plus (as opposed to the Absolute, Animal, and Complete models, which are exclusive to the UK).

Dyson V15 Black Friday deals have been switched on and off again over the past couple of weeks, with some discounts proving so popular that stock has sold out immediately. Our advice is this: if you see a Dyson V15 on sale this Black Friday weekend, snatch it up before others beat you to it.

Dyson V15 Detect:was$749.99 now $649.99 at Dyson(opens in new tab)Dyson claims that the V15 Detect is "the most awarded vacuum cleaner" in its lineup, and our five star review(opens in new tab) and "Best in Class" badge recommendation make it hard to disagree with that statement. This Walmart deal will save you a whopping $100, which is equivalent to Amazon"s Dyson V15 offer(opens in new tab) (though stock on latter deal is severely limited right now, hence our preference for Walmart in this instance).

Dyson V15 Detect :was$799.99 now $649.99 at Dyson(opens in new tab)This deal, from Dyson itself, will save you $150 on the V15 Detect. You can save an additional $100 on a Dyson Floor Dok, too, when adding this accessory to your basket in the same purchase (oh, and you"ll also get $80-worth of included tools). In other words, this is a better value-for-money proposition than Walmart"s deal (above).

Dyson V15 stock is selling out all over the place in the UK, but John Lewis, Very, Appliances Direct and Dyson itself are still offering some stellar Dyson V15 Black Friday deals. We"ve highlighted them below.Amazon: limited Dyson V15 stock(opens in new tab)

Dyson V15 Detect Animal cordless vacuum: was £629now £499 at John Lewis(opens in new tab)The Dyson V15 Detect is the crème de la crème of cordless vacuums, and John Lewis is offering it for £130 less than usual right now. In testing, we found its standout feature to be a built-in laser that shines a green laser on microscopic dust, which, quite frankly, says something about the level of tech bundled into this cleaning machine. If stock runs low at John Lewis, you can currently find the same deal at Very(opens in new tab) and Appliances Direct(opens in new tab).

Dyson V15 Detect Plus:was £629 now £449 at Dyson(opens in new tab)We gave this Dyson the full five stars when it was full price, and this Black Friday deal makes it even more attractive. Not only does it bring the vacuum"s price to below £450, it includes a genuinely useful accessory kit worth £65. The V15 Detect is Dyson"s most powerful and most intelligent cleaner yet – and you can only get this iron/black colourway at Dyson itself.

Finally, the UK-exclusive Dyson V15 Detect Animal (gold) offers the same suction hardware as the Detect Absolute (and therefore Complete) but lacks its laser-fitted cleaning head and quick release soft dusting brush. The laser head is used for hard floors, so this option is best suited to those who only have carpets in their homes.

Some choose to lead their lives according to the ideal of ignorance is bliss. If they can"t see it, it must be clean, but for the other half of the population, you"ll want to consider the Dyson V15 Detect cordless vacuum. Dyson"s floorcare innovation brings never-before-seen technology to its floorcare lineup of the best Dyson vacuums, with the addition of a built-in green laser that illuminates dust particles invisible to the eye on hard floors and a scientific Piezo sensor that counts dust particles down to a microscopic 10 microns. into its signature Fluffy cleaner head for physical proof of a deep and effective clean.

I"ve been using the Dyson regularly since it launched in March 2021, and it remains one of my favorite vacuums to date. Not only are my floors visibly cleaner, but I also enjoy slinging the V15 Detect around my hardwoods to spot-check every last surface, with a generous long-lasting battery that gets me through all my cleaning routines.

The Dyson V15 has truly been put to the test, and now, I"m sharing my thoughts and experiences with this premium cordless vacuum. By the time you"re finished reading, you"ll see why it"s one of the best cordless vacuums we"ve seen.

It"s the first time we"ve seen the Dyson V15 Detect have a discount as deep as this $150 price cut, now on sale for a limited time. The Dyson V15 Detect comes with two cleaner heads and eight accessories.

Jaclyn is the US eCommerce editor at Homes & Gardens where she specializes in a variety of topics ranging from vacuums to mattresses. She spends her days tracking the latest buzzworthy releases and testing a variety of products to determine whether they are worth bringing into your home. Dyson provided the V15 Detect for review, and Jaclyn has been using it continually for over a year since. Jaclyn"s home features a mix of hardwood floors, carpets, and area rugs. A small non-shedding dog lives in the house but still manages to track in his fair share of dirt.

But specifically, the V15 Detect is specifically for those who love physical reassurance that their home is getting clean. According to Dyson, their goal was to provide owners with a scientifically proven clean that you can actually SEE and give assurance that any missed spots are revealed while cutting down the time you’d spend going over the same spot that might actually be totally clean!

To get the most out of the V15 Detect"s laser technology, we think the Dyson V15 Detect is ideal for homes with a lot of hard floors, as while the vacuum takes carpet dust to task, the green laser only works on hard floors. However, the built-in Piezo sensor still displays data on both hard floors and carpets.

The motor, .2 gallon dustbin, and battery are located at the top of the vacuum, and the V15 continues to make use of Dyson"s signature trigger operation. Each accessory piece clicks in and out with ease.

The Dyson V15"s Dyson Hyperdymium motor spins at up to 125,000rpm and generates 230 air watts of suction, which is 24% more suction power than the V11 range. The 5-stage filtration captures 99.99% of dust particles down to 0.3 microns for a powerful deep clean.

PIEZO SensorFor those who want real-time proof and insights into the dirt on their floors, Dyson integrated an acoustic Piezo sensor into the design that continuously sizes and counts dust particles and shows how much has been picked up in a graph on the LCD screen. Essentially, once you notice the numbers start to slow, you can assume that the Dyson has suctioned everything there is to pick up. Plus it will automatically increase suction power across different floor types based on the amount of dust and other particles present on the surface.

I personally ran into an issue where my Piezo sensor was switched off, and it"s not a feature that I missed or affected the cleaning performance of my machine. Dyson was quick to remedy me with a replacement unit, but I do wish that it was something that could have been repaired without requiring an entirely new device.

Anti-Tangle Hair TechKeeping our pets and long-haired users in mind, Dyson has reworked how hair interacts with its technology by developing ananti-tangle conical brush bar that spirals hair off and into the bin to prevent hair wrap on the brushbar. The tech is available on a smaller and full-size High Torque Cleanerhead, which has polycarbonate teeth that look like a comb and prevent tangling around the bristles when you are cleaning, and automatically clear hair from the brush bar.

LCD ScreenThe LCD displays will show a real-time count of the collected particles from the PIEZO sensor, a run-time countdown clock, the power mode in use, and maintenance alerts, such as when an air channel is clogged, or the bin needs emptying.

FiltrationYou"ll only find the best with Dyson. The V15 Detect offers Dyson’s 5-stage advanced filtration technologies, capturing 99.97% of particles as small as 0.1microns, to expel cleaner air.

On Hard FloorsHere"s where the Dyson V15 Detect comes out to shine. The Fluffy floor head with the built-in laser effectively hunts down dirt and debris that the naked eye can"t see. The soft brush roll design also won"t scratch floors and is the most optimized at maintaining battery life.

Emptying the Dust BinThe Dyson V15 Detect has one of the easiest bins to empty. Just detach from the wand, angle over the garbage, and slide the red handlebar down and most of the contents will just roll out. However, I did find that lingering dust bunnies and hair clumps that clung to the mesh filters were difficult to fish out.

I trialed the Dyson V15 Detect through I call the Pantry Test, the unscientific test that uses common pantry staples to test the suction capabilities of our vacuums. I arranged a quarter cup of cereal, a quarter cup of rice, and a tablespoon of sugar to see how the vacuum handled food particles large and small.

The Pantry Test on carpet with the Fluffy FloorheadThe Fluffy floorhead seemed to suction up the cereal in one big inhale, but in actuality it clogged the machine, causing the rice to jump around as I tried to vacuum it up. So, thinking to give up on the rice, I went to my sugar pile. Same issue. Then I looked at the LCD screen, which was displaying images signaling blocked passageways. Once I cleared the clog coming from the brushhead, the rice and sugar were swiftly picked up.

When observing Dyson(opens in new tab) directly, the vacuum holds a 4.5-star rating, with many expressing their excitement over the innovative laser technology and suction power that revealed a lot about the cleanliness of their homes. A few mentioned trouble with an instruction to clean the filter after very limited use, while others expressed frustration that the vacuum didn"t last the full 60 minutes that was quoted.

The Dyson V15 Detect is the first vacuum of its kind to offer a laser in its design. The body styling is similar in design to the V11 series, but with a slightly stronger motor. However, it"s built off the same motor as the V11 series. At $749.99, it"s the third most expensive, but has the most powerful design, with Dyson claiming that it offers 100% more suction power than the more V8 Animal cordless vacuum.

However, the most premium model, the extra-large Dyson Outsize +(opens in new tab) at 949.99, has a 50% larger dust bin and double the operating time. The Dyson Outsize + was recently rebranded to include the same Laser Slim Fluffy Cleaner Head, which means it now offers the same core features as the V15 Detect, but on a larger scale.

Additionally, in the summer of 2022, Dyson released the V12 Detect(opens in new tab) series, which retails at $649.99. The V12 Detect is officially 40% lighter, offering a .1-gallon dust bin and trading the trigger design for a power button, which makes it easy to switch hands while cleaning. It does offer slightly less suction power, 150AW to the V15 Detects 230AW.

The Dyson V15 Detect will absolutely transform the way you clean. It literally hunts dust to reveal what is on your floors. It"s a little unsettling to see just how much dirt gathers after a few days of not vacuuming, but equally exciting to see it suctioned up with a quick pass-through. Not to mention, the sheer suction power that this slim cordless is able to offer.

Dyson has launched its most powerful and intelligent vacuum cleaner to date in India -- Dyson V15 Detect vacuum cleaner. The all-new Dyson V15 Detect is a cord-free vacuum which, as per the company, can detect hidden dust particles as small as 10 microns. It comes equipped with an acoustic piezo sensor and Hyperdymium motor. It can be used to clean floors, hard-to-reach places and mattresses.

Dyson V15 Detect is priced at Rs 62,900. It is available at Dyson.in and Dyson Demo stores across the country. The device is also available online on Amazon. The vacuum cleaner comes in three colour options —- Iron, Nickel and Yellow.

The cord-free Dyson V15 Detect vacuum cleaner claims to offer up to 60 minutes of fade-free suction. It houses a five-stage filtration system and is powered by the company’s Hyperdymium motor which is said to generate up to 240 watts of suction. Dyson says that the new cord-free vacuum offers 1.5 times more suction and 54% more bin capacity than the Dyson V12 Detect Slim Total Clean that launched in February this year.

The laser dust detection feature in the Dyson V15 Detect uses an angled green laser integrated into a cleaner head to detect microscopic dust particles that are not visible by the naked eye. The V15 Detect houses Piezo sensors equipped to count dust particles. Carbon fibre filaments in the cleaner head pick up microscopic particles which are sized and counted up to 15,000 times a second. The dust enters the vacuum and hits the acoustic Piezo sensor within the bin inlet with the tiny vibrations being converted to electrical signals. The dust size and quantity are shown on the in-built LCD screen. The vacuum can automatically increase suction power in case there is a large amount of dust. There are no controls for this and the company says that this happens in auto mode. Whenever the Piezo sensor detects high concentrations of dust, the reactive suction power is triggered to automatically increase in power. When dust levels normalise, suction power is reduced to its previous level.

The Dyson V15 Detect comes with de-tangling technology, allowing it to pick up long hair and pet hair with an anti-tangle conical brush bar. Said to be inspired by a detangling comb, the brush bar features 56 hair removal vanes, aimed to be able to move all hair types directly into the cleaner head. These polycarbonate teeth, combined with a set of spiralling nylon bristles can capture hairs, as well as larger debris and microscopic dust.

Dyson further says that its DLS technology in the new motor bar can adapt power across different floor types. This means that users don’t need to switch cleaner heads, or power modes. The company has also claimed that Dyson"s fully sealed system can capture and seal in 99.99 percent of microscopic particles, including those that are as small as 0.3 microns.

We nearly made the cheapest version of the LG CordZero the runner-up pick in this guide, and buying this vacuum instead of a Tineco S11 or a Dyson V8 is a reasonable choice. The LG CordZero isn’t as lightweight or smooth-steering as the Tineco S11, but it does have noticeably stronger suction. On the other hand, this LG model’s regular on/off power toggle is much more comfortable than the Dyson V8’s, but this vacuum doesn’t clean rugs quite as well. The low-end CordZero A9 is an in-betweener option, and a great fit for some people. The main weakness is that it snowplows more types of big debris on bare floors—even cat litter, to some extent—than most stick vacuums.

We had written off the CordZero in previous versions of this guide as an overpriced Dyson wannabe. But the price has fallen so sharply for the base model that it’s a much better choice now.

We still think the Triflex is a wonderful vacuum in a lot of important ways. Its best quality is the comfort—no other cordless vacuum beats the handling. You can convert it between two different body styles by rearranging the order in which the parts fit together (no tools needed). In its traditional upright configuration, the Triflex is the most balanced, comfortable, sturdy-feeling cordless vac we’ve ever used. (The modern stick-style configuration is fine, too, and it can also separate into a Dustbuster-like handheld vac.) It hugs the ground in a way we haven’t experienced with almost any other battery-powered machine. The cleaning performance was also excellent in our tests: It wasn’t quite as effective as the top-of-the-line Dyson models at digging fine dust out of thick carpets, but it was better than nearly all other models, and it did an excellent job on bare floors (without our having to switch to a specialty cleaning head as on most cordless vacuums). The only major downside we could glean from our initial testing was the small, hard-to-use dustbin.

The Lupe Pure Cordless is billed as a strong, long-lasting cordless vacuum that will allow you to continually replace parts over time instead of chucking the whole machine when a single part fails. (It began as a Kickstarter project by some former Dyson engineers, and it actually came to fruition—good for them.) We’ll have to wait and see whether that proves to be true. It certainly feels like a sturdy vacuum, but we don’t have any solid evidence that it’ll be longer-lasting than other expensive cordless vacuums we’ve tested.

As for the basics, the Lupe Pure Cordless is actually the most powerful bare-floor cleaner we’ve tested, thanks to very strong suction and an unusual dual-roller head design. We found that it’s excellent on carpets, as well, though not on the level of the (less expensive) Dyson V15. It can’t convert into a handheld vacuum, but it does have a flexible hose that mostly accomplishes the same thing. The big downside is the handling: It’s heavy and a little hard to steer compared with most cordless stick vacs, and it tends to jam on area rugs that other sticks have no problem with.

The Shark Rocket lineup was thoroughly mediocre in our testing, but the new Shark Vertex IZ462 is worth a look if you frequently need to suck up large debris (think yard waste or breakfast cereal) alongside your regular rug-cleaning routine. Its carpet performance is respectable for a vacuum with such magnet-like prowess on bare floors—a great compromise for people who really need both, in other words. We don’t recommend it for a wide audience because our analysis of customer reviews suggests that very few people really want this kind of floor-carpet balance in their vacuum’s cleaning performance. (Owners are much more likely to comment on a vacuum’s carpet-cleaning performance, we found.) The Vertex is also noticeably heavier than the Tineco or Dyson models we recommend, and the mechanism that locks the vacuum into the upright position didn’t always click into place for us, giving the vacuum a bit of a cheap feel. (For those who might be keeping track: This is an updated version of the Shark Ion F80, which we recommended in this guide a few years ago.)

What about all those cheap sticks on Amazon? You might be reasonably happy with one when it’s brand-new, but we’re confident that none of them will last, so we’ve decided not to waste any more of anybody’s time trying to figure out which $100 Dyson knockoff might pick up a few extra grains of sand before it heads to the landfill in a year.

Roborock (which makes some of our favorite robot vacuums) makes a strong, comfortable-to-use, somewhat overpriced cordless stick vacuum, the H7. (We also tested its predecessor, the H6, a couple of years ago.) It’s particularly great on rugs, landing between the Dyson V8 and V11 in our test results. The unusual part here is the battery: It’s a polymer “soft pack” that offers as much run time as on most competing models but is less bulky. And if you want, you can swap out the H7’s cyclonic filter and pop in a vacuum bag instead for easier dirt disposal. We found that using the bag chokes the suction a bit but otherwise seems to work well—you’ll just have to replace the tiny bags pretty frequently. We like the Roborock H7 vacuum a lot, but we’re not ready to recommend it because we have no idea how durable it will be: Soft-pack batteries do not have a track record in vacuum cleaners yet. A Roborock representative also told us that the company doesn’t yet have plans to sell replacement batteries and expects owners to move on to a new vacuum every three years or so.

Samsung isn’t known for its vacuums in North America, but it released a slew of new cordless stick vacs in 2021. We tested the Jet 70 and found that it was just okay, really nothing special among a crowded field. In our tests it was a decent carpet cleaner, though not quite as strong as the similarly priced Tineco S11 or Dyson V8. It was also the worst snowplower we tested on bare floors—it pushed around more types of debris without sucking the stuff up than the other models we tested. Spare parts for the Jet 70 and other Samsung Jet sticks are also more expensive than other brands’ spares—even Dyson’s. Samsung sells a few other variants of the Jet sticks, but the main differences are the suction levels and accessory kits. Of note, the Jet 90 will work with an optional accessory (usually $200) that empties the vacuum on its own, though we have not tested it.

Dyson makes a couple of models that aren’t very compelling. The Dyson Omni-glide is meant to be a nimble vacuum designed for cleaning bare floors. We cover it in greater depth in our guide to hard-floor vacuums, but in a nutshell, we just didn’t find it to be very comfortable to use or very good at cleaning bare floors.

We like a lot of Eufy products, but not the HomeVac S11 Infinity. It’s priced like a Dyson but cleans like a cheap vacuum. It could be worth a look if Eufy cuts the price to $150.

Tacony makes cordless vacuums under its Simplicity and Riccar labels, but none of them are standouts. The most impressive is the Simplicity Cordless Freedom, at $700. But it can’t convert into a handheld vacuum, and it lacks a hose, offers less suction, has a less-aggressive brush roll, and is heavier and harder to steer than the Dyson V11 Torque Drive.

A well-featured vacuum that has the power and battery life to handle everything we threw at it, our one major quibble with the V15 Detect, as you can read below, is its high price. This stonking deal from Dyson has gone a good way to addressing that, taking a massive £149 off the Detect price when we reviewed (and this + model has even more tools).

Dyson’s cordless stick vacuum cleaners need little introduction, and have a history of being both the best and most expensive models money can buy. The Dyson V15 Detect Absolute is the latest generation to join the clan and, as you’d expect, it’s more powerful and feature-packed than any model Dyson has launched to date.

There’s nothing new about the shape and size of the V15, which is very similar to the V11. However, it introduces anti-tangle technology to two of its motorised heads, which prevents the rollers becoming clogged with long hair.

There’s also a laser mounted on the hard floor motorised head, which highlights even the tiniest dust particles so you can see how clean, or dirty, your floor still is. Lastly, the V15 now counts the particles it collects, so you can keep tabs on how much dust and filth it’s picking up.

At first glance you’d be forgiven for questioning whether anything has changed, because the Dyson V15 looks so remarkably similar to its predecessors. It measures 249 x 267 x 1,260mm (WDH) with the wand and motor head attached, and it weighs 3.08kg.

There are also two new anti-tangle heads, which work in slightly different ways to keep your carpet brushes free from tangled hair. The main floor head, which Dyson calls the High Torque Cleaner, combs hair out of its brush as it goes, lifting hair away from the roller and passing it through to the vacuum tube.

For once, the latest Dyson isn’t the most expensive vacuum in the range. At £50 more, that honour falls to the V11 Outsize, which has a bigger dust collection bin and a wider cleaning head than the V15. If you have a large house and a lot of floor to cover, the V11 Outsize is probably a more sensible choice, although it does lack the anti-tangle attachments and dust-detection technologies.

If you can’t stretch to £649 for a vacuum, that’s completely understandable, and stepping down in price doesn’t mean compromising on quality. The Dyson V8, despite its age, is still a worthy contender at £349.

For the real bargains, you need to walk away from the Dyson stable entirely and check out its cordless rivals. Both the Vax Blade 4 and Vax Blade 3 did a good job of cleaning in our tests and prices on those start at a very reasonable £169.

For a smaller, lighter model that doesn’t cost as much as the Dysons, the Eufy HomeVac S11 Infinity costs a mere £230 at Eufy, and comes with plenty of handy accessories and a useful second battery.

The Absolute in this Dyson’s name lets you know that this is the model that comes with all the extras, and the box is certainly overflowing with attachments. I’ve already mentioned the three motorised floor heads, but there’s also a selection of other accessories: a crevice tool for getting into nooks and crannies; a soft brush tool for agitating and collecting dust on delicates; and a handy combination tool, which can either be a brush or a simple angled tube.

As for the design, that follows the same template that has been in place since the V10. The main vacuum unit containing the device’s motor and cyclones sits above a pistol grip handle. The 0.76-litre dust collection bin is mounted forward of this, between the motor and any attachment you might be using. There’s a button on the rear for swapping between the various modes and an LCD display above it.

The Dyson V15 Detect Absolute doesn’t have the heft of the V11 Outsize’s 3.5kg, but it still passes the 3kg mark comfortably. Coupled with the powerful suction, I found this was a considerable weight to push around, particularly on thicker carpet. If you want something lighter and more manoeuvrable, the Eufy HomeVac S11 Infinity would be our pick.

In terms of suction power, this is Dyson’s most powerful vacuum to date. Dyson vacuums cut out if their airways are blocked, so measuring suction is problematic using our usual vacuum pressure gauge. At the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute’s maximum setting, peak suction reached 31kPa, at which point the vacuum cut out.

This translates well into cleaning power. On a short-pile carpet, in a single pass of the High Torque motorised head on standard power, it collected 92% of a measured spillage of Cheerios. Those that weren’t collected tended to be scattered by the powerful spinning brush, so I performed the test again on the V15’s lower-powered Economy setting, and it collected 96% of the spill.

I tried both the large floor heads on Cheerios spills on a hard floor and the result in each test was perfection. The Dyson V15 Detect Absolute collected 100% of the spilled material; an exceptional performance. I kept the soft head on for the flour test and it gathered every last gram.

Operating the V15 requires you to hold down a trigger so you can’t accidentally leave it running. It has three power modes: Economy, Max and Auto, the latter adapting automatically to the surface you’re cleaning. You select between the modes using the button on the rear of the main vacuum unit.

Here, a colour LCD screen shows which mode you have selected and how long the cleaner has left before the battery will run out. During cleaning, it also displays information generated by the last of the Dyson’s new features: its acoustic dust sensor.

This “listens” to dust particles bouncing off it as they pass, both counting and categorising them by size, then displaying what it has collected in a bar chart on the screen. I have to admit I don’t see the benefit of this. Dyson argues it helps reassure you that a deep clean has occurred, but arguably you get that from seeing the collection bin fill up with muck.

On Economy mode, I found the battery lasted 50 minutes, while you’ll only see 11 minutes of cleaning on the Max setting. Recharging the battery takes around 4hrs 30mins. The Dyson V11 Outsize lasts longer in its low-power mode (nearly 1hr 20mins), but much less time in maximum-power mode (9mins 8secs).

To empty the V15’s collection bin, you have to remove any accessories. Then you can simply hold the unit over your bin and pull down the lever to open a trap door in the bottom, which ejects the dirt. It’s a reasonably straightforward process that works well, but it can be a bit of a fiddle to remove the accessory you’re using mid-clean just to have to clip it back on again.

Dyson has done it again. This cordless stick vacuum cleaner tackled everything we threw at it, with cleaning power that’s just as good as its previous models, and backs this up with a slew of new and worthwhile features.

The three redesigned motorised heads are all eminently useful. Anti-tangle rollers aren’t new to vacuuming, but it’s good to see Dyson finally embracing the technology, and the dust-spotting laser leaves you in no doubt your hard floor is clean. The Dyson V15 Detect Absolute is the best cordless vacuum you can buy right now.

There is nothing exciting about vacuuming except for the prospect of not having to vacuum for a while. Of course, there are some vacuums that get the job done faster, more efficiently and provide some added benefits in the process. And Dyson specializes in these vacuums.

James Dyson started making vacuums in the ’80s and he became so proficient at it that he later earned a knighthood from the Queen of England. His innovations are numerous — bagless emptying, cyclonic suction, swiveling heads, fade-free batteries and more — but the number pales in comparison to the massive variety of vacuums in the brand’s portfolio. Within the four greater categories — cordless, corded, handheld and canister — there are models and submodels of each style, not to mention a whole world of attachments. Words like “Animal,” “Torque Drive” and “Cinetic” pepper the marketing materials for each, cluing you in to the fact that this is far from your average cleaning appliance company.

The names of new Dyson vacuums are followed by an adjective, such as Motorhead, Animal, Absolute, Torque Drive or, in the case of the new V11, Outsize. Each one denotes a different number of “extras” that come with the vacuum. These usually take the form of detachable heads for different uses, like a narrower head for cleaning stairs, a slimmer head for fitting in tight spaces and so on. In most cases, Motorhead models come with the fewest number of attachments, while the pricier Absolute models come with the most.

The runtimes listed Dyson’s cordless vacuums can be deceiving. The number you see is the maximum runtime, meaning it’s how long the vacuum will run on the lowest suction setting, which isn’t indicative of how people use vacuums. It’s safe to assume you will get 20 to 30 percent less runtime off a full battery than what’s listed, as you’ll be moving between high suction and low suction fairly often.

As new vacuums come out and old vacuums get older, prices change. Dyson vacuums are also frequently on sale through major online retailers like Amazon, Ebay, Jet and Walmart. The takeaway: the prices listed in our guide are approximations and subject to change. One thing we do know: if you want the best value for a Dyson vacuum, go with an older generation model.

If you ever find a suspiciously low price on a Dyson vac, it’s likely a refurb. Here’s what the company has to say about its refurb program: “Our refurbished machines have been thoroughly tested to meet like-new performance standards. Units may have some cosmetic blemishes that include scratches and/or other surface imperfections, that do not affect functionality.”

Lasers make everything feel more futuristic, and Dyson"s latest the V12 Detect Slim has a laser in its cleaning head that reveals dirt invisible to the naked eye, a feature that we found makes it one of the best stick vacuums you can buy. If you"ve ever vacuumed and felt like nothing was happening, the V12 uses a thing called an acoustic piezo sensor. The sensor turns the vibrations of dust being sucked up into electric signals, and it"s measured and relayed through an LCD screen to keep track of how much crap you"ve vacuumed. It is one of the lightest vacuums that Dyson has to offer at only 5.2 pounds, which makes it easy to maneuver around and under furniture.

Very similar to the V12, the V15 also employs an acoustic piezo sensor and a laser attachment that reveals hidden dirt and dust as you vacuum. The vacuum"s slim laser head — meant for hard floors — is equipped with a green laser that illuminates particles as small as 10 microns, which is about the diameter of human red blood cells. The second cleaning head that comes with the V15 is the High Torque cleaner head, which works on hard floors as well as rugs and carpets. It"s heavier and larger than the V12, making it better suited for heavy duty cleaning.

Dyson"s Omni-glide was the brand"s slimmest and most maneuverable stick vacuum when released a couple years ago. It has a cleaning head that swivels 360 degrees that sucks up dirt forward and backward. It was engineered for hard floors, so don"t get this if your home is covered with mostly rugs and carpeting. The 4-pound vacuum quickly and easily transforms into a handheld vacuum with just a click. Easily the best part of the Omni-glide is its push-button operation. While some older Dyson models required you to constantly depress the trigger, the Omni-glide lets you power on and power off with just a touch so you can more easily vacuum without hand strain.

Dyson"s largest cordless vacuum, the Outsize boasts a dustbin capacity of 1.9 liters, a whopping 120-minute runtime and it weighs about 8 pounds. The Outsize+ also comes with the same laser head attachment as the V12 and V15, making a great option for someone who wants all the benefits of the brand"s latest cordless vacs but needs to cover a larger space.

The V10 marked a Rubicon-crossing moment for Dyson. Upon its release, the company declared it would no longer invest R&D into its classic upright vacuums, opting instead to push further into the world of cordless vacuums.

It was also the first of Dyson’s cordless catalog to feature the vertical dustbin, which allows you to eject vacuumed contents without putting your hands in dirt’s way. It comes with a standard fully sealed, washable, full-machine HEPA filtration system, too. The vacuum"s max runtime of 60 minutes decreases significantly when you use the highest power setting, making it a better fit for those with small spaces.

The V8 represents the best balance of price and performance you’ll find in the Dyson catalog, which is why it tops our list of the best vacuums. It boasts plenty of suction and a full-machine, washable HEPA filter (this means you don’t have to replace the filter every few months) and it is frequently on sale. For an added layer of frugality, go for the manufacturer refurbished models, which come with a truncated warranty but are ensured by Dyson to perform up to the standards of its brand new equivalents.

Dyson"s latest upright vacuum model, the Ball Animal 3, boasts superior suction and hair-detangling capabilities. It has a 50-foot cord and a 1.7-liter dustbin for covering large spaces. Because it"s corded, there"s no limit to its runtime, making it a great option for large spaces that need deep cleaning often. The vacuum is also suited for homes with pets and the Complete and Extra versions of the upright even come with a pet grooming tool to remove loose hair before it even hits the ground.

Because Dyson is always coming out with new products and models, there"s a good chance that a machine you bought a few years ago may no longer be sold — at least by Dyson. Often other retailers, like Amazon, sell older Dyson models that have been discontinued. You"ll notice that Dyson currently only sells cordless stick vacuums and uprights, but there are a few handhelds and canister vacuums on this list. While you may be able to get a deal by shopping somewhere else, be sure to check Dyson"s list of retired machines to make sure you"re not buying a machine that you won"t be able to get replacement parts for down the line.

The brand’s V11 boasted improved battery life, more suction and more space in the dustbin when it hit the market in 2019. The V11 Torque Drive has an LCD screen that displays performance and runtime, and it has three modes: auto, eco and boost.

Billed as a more affordable V8, the V7 packs similar suction levels, the same dirt ejection system and much of the same shape. It does not, however, come with a washable HEPA filter. Like the V8 and other older Dyson models, it’s often the subject of significant markdowns on major ecommerce sites.

The V6 was Dyson’s first serious attempt at a cordless vacuum that could rival upright, corded models. The V6 is almost always on sale and readily available as a manufacturer refurb, but its weak battery life can be problematic for owners who live in a big house or have tons of carpet. It features pre-motor HEPA filtration but the filter must be replaced every three to six months of consistent use.

The Dyson V7 handheld is smaller, lighter, more powerful and more energy-efficient than its predecessors. The Trigger model is the bare bones vacuum body with a small crevice, motorized and general use attachment head.

dyson v15 lcd screen pricelist

The Dyson V15 Detect is one of the latest releases from the home appliance giant and with promises to make our floors cleaner than ever, we couldn’t wait to test it out to see if it’s worthy of a place among the best vacuum cleaners for home.

Just shy of $700, the V15 Detect is Dyson’s very first vacuum to have laser detect technology which quite literally shows up tiny specs of dust and dirt on your floors so that you can suck them up with the vacuum. This machine also registers the dust it collects and shows you the size and number of particles it sucks up on an LCD screen positioned on the handle.

With a range of new attachments, the lure of an impressive 60-minute run time, and floor heads that can take on long hair without getting in a tangle, the Dyson V15 Detect sure promised a lot, so let’s find out whether it has delivered or not.Today"s best Dyson V15 Detect deals

The Dyson V15 Detect is a cordless stick vacuum that comes with a selection of attachments to tackle pretty much anything. If you’ve had a Dyson before, you’ll be familiar with the simple click-into-place system for cordless vacuum attachments, but the new V15 Detect promises to put the science behind its claims to be “the most powerful, intelligent cordless vacuum” on the market.

But what does that actually mean? The Dyson V15 Detect features a floor head with laser technology and while LED lights on the front of a vacuum floor head aren’t anything new, laser beams are. The laser is positioned at the optimal angle so that your eye can detect smaller particles of dirt and dust that you wouldn’t otherwise spot.

Once the dust has been sucked up the floor head, a Piezo sensor counts the particles and an LCD screen (built into the top of the vacuum’s handle) tells you the size and number of particles it’s sucking up. The real clever part of the Dyson V15 Detect’s design is that it automatically adjusts its suction depending on the number of dust particles it senses so that those dirtier areas in your home get a thorough clean.

You’ll be able to keep track of how much battery life you have remaining as a countdown is displayed on the vacuum’s LCD screen. Inside the Dyson V15 Detect, a Hyperdymium motor spins at a rate of 125,000 rpm to provide a powerful deep clean. However, it’s worth noting that Dyson’s older models, including the Dyson V11 Torque Drive, also had motors that operated at this speed so this is nothing new.

There are three different modes to choose from on the V15 Detect: Eco, Auto, and Boost. As you’d expect, the Eco mode is designed to save the battery’s runtime, whereas Boost is for high-traffic or dirtier areas in your home.

The Dyson V15 Detect has the brand’s signature trigger to activate the vacuum but, for us, this is somewhat disappointing. Realistically holding down a trigger isn’t arduous, but when you’re cleaning your whole home or you’re using this vacuum as a handheld, it can cause your hand to ache slightly. It’s also not well-thought-out for those with dexterity issues.

Some cordless vacuums have been designed to just whizz around your home as a faster and more convenient alternative to a heavy upright vacuum or plugging in a corded model, but they’ve been lacking when it comes to cleaning edges and stairs. The Dyson V15 Detect provides a great solution to that, and while it has a painful $699.99 price tag, it comes with several attachments to reach every corner of your home (and your car).

It’s all well and good having a load of fancy features and attachments, but if a vacuum can’t do what it’s supposed to, it all seems kind of pointless. Thankfully, the Dyson V15 Detect seriously impressed us when it came to performance.

We tried out the V15 on carpets that had just been vacuumed with an alternative model. The reason we tested the Dyson on a clean floor was so that we could see if this machine really could offer a deeper clean th
