So I jumped past "niche product" because it is irrelevant for most DPReview users. A lot of your points were about "typical office users". Yep, 8K is way overkill for typical (non-DPReview) users. Granted.

Furthermore, the need for 8K is in my opinion somewhat questionable in applications where the viewing distance is fixed. Because the viewing angle needs to be really large to get some gain over 4K.

To conclude it, I"m not saying that 8K is totally pointless, just that 4K and 5K resolutions cover typical use cases where viewing distance is roughly equal to the monitor diagonal or larger.

Improvements in other parameters like color gamut, brightness, contrast, response, refresh rate and viewing angles are more important than increasing the resolution to 8K which can"t take an advantage of because of your visual acuity.

Last but not least, 8K@60 Hz without compression of chroma subsampling requires DP 2.0 which is not on the market yet. Please, correct me if any monitor with DP 2.0 support appeared at CES 2022.

I"m not disputing most of your points. Just that I don"t believe they are meaningful for the kinds of photographers that buy high end photography equipment and/or print large fine art prints. 300 PPI at all sizes is meaningful for them. They will need 8k (at least) monitors if they want maintain 300 PPI when evaluating images at sizes comparable to the prints they will make. (Otherwise, why buy expensive high end camera equipment?)
