The instrument must be disassembled almost completely to reach the display. Furthermore, minor modifications to the electronics and the power supply are required. This work is to be done only by technically, best electrotechnically savvy people.

This screen is fantastic. I won"t repeat what others have said before me but it"s all true. It takes a month or so to receive your order because the guy CUSTOM BUILDS the display for you. I got the White on Black background for my 01/Wfd, and it"s great. Once you set the brightness/contrast, you leave the trim pots inside your keyboard, lash them to a wire that"s away from anything metal, bolt the back cover back on and you"re good to go. This was a great choice for my 01/Wfd! Thank you seller!

Furthermore we recommend to take out of function the power supply for the old backlight. For this two components in the Korg 01/W have to be cut or desoldered. With this change the annoying beeping is eliminated.

About 2 years ago a friend of mine gave me his old keyboard. He is a fantastic player and had long left this guy behind. This was his first real instrument which he bought new back in the early nineties; a Korg 01/WFd.

During its time of engagement it saw plenty of action and it’s fair share of wear and tear. Gaffer tape covered the brand logos, the action of the keys was slow and sticky (build up of dust and smoke), the LCD screen backlight had burned out over time making the display hard to read, a few buttons including the parameter down button were not working any more, and the second octave D key was partly broken, leaving it sticking up quite a few millimetres over the rest of the keys.

Motivated to bring the guy back to life and have a nice instrument to learn on, I started by heading down to the local hardware shop, bought Silicon spray (lubricate the key movements), then ordered a new key online. I then proceeded to take the Korg apart piece by piece, photo documenting I went so as not to forget how it all fits together.

The screen backlight was fun, there was no way to tell which side of the flat panel was the illuminous side. So I took a guess, soldered it in too, then reassembled the whole thing complete. Total time for dismantle, buttons and backlight, reassemble: ~3 hours.

Surprise! Backlight is in upside down. I could see light coming up from around the edges of the display, but otherwise it was dark as ever. And real life being what it is I didn’t get a chance to dive right back in and fix it; it must have been about a week before I could make the time. But once I got back in and turned that little light panel up the right way, the display looked killer.

The last job was getting all the gaffer tape off and believe me, that was not easy. 20 odd years of fusing itself to the textured metal surface proved similar to peeling the white lines off a bitumen highway. If you have ever tried that. Probably not, I haven’t, probably nobody apart from road construction workers have. Which you could well be, so maybe you know full well what I’m talking.

Anyway, long story short, a few people on Google/Internet/Duck duck go, mentioned WD40 as a useful solvent for cutting through the adhesive of gaffer. And Boy George were they right! A bit of patience and much WD40 took that nasty trash right off.

Essentially, it"s a completely flat plastic panel with two leads coming off it at some point. When the leads are connected to power then it glows evenly all over - bit spooky! I had quite a bit of trouble with mine because of two problems:

Glowsafe don"t connect the leads to the edge of their panel, they connect them on the back face of the panel off-centre. So, firstly, you have to find out where the connections go because they actually go to the edge of the panel, and then you need to avoid cutting the connections when cutting the panel to size.

Second, the connections are soldered onto copper strips and this means there"s a lump in the back of the panel. This makes that part of the panel too thick to go between the glass LCD and the old light panel.

First off, I cut through the tracks and the panel didn"t work anymore. But, after I relocated the connections and copper strips to the edge of my panel it worked again and it was also then thin enough to slide into the space. This might sound easy but it took me 2 hours!

All in all, I wouldn"t recommend the Glowsafe product for this particular application (good product otherwise) unless you can"t find anything else. Maybe if you asked them, they"d manufacture you a specific size with appropriate connections?

Shipping the display adjustable is essential. Once the brightness is set up, the potentiometer is tucked away inside. Its meant to be set up, then forgotten. **If you buy a display, contact me for instructions when your ready to install** **This listing is for one (1) Plug N Play display only. The 01/W pictured is NOT included** ***Pls note. This plug n play display modification is being discontinued soon. It"s being replaced by a new custom display. There has to be a point when i transition from the old display to the new universal display that works plug n play in everything. That period will be 12-14 weeks. Custom display will be listed on eBay for multiple instruments under the title, Multi-Mode Programmable LED Display. This new display is universal, it works plug n play in every instrument. Even though the display is not finished, the program codes have already been finalised. It"s ok to share them in advance** I"ve decided, to be fair to customers, they should be notified of this change well in advance. Otherwise, in the near future, I"d be shipping an old display on Monday, new one on Tuesday, and that wouldnt be fair. Today the display went into production. factory lead time is 12-14 weeks due to covid, chip delays etc. In the meantime, I recommend, you wait for the new display if it"s not urgent. The custom display is amazing, it"ll arrive soon. should be around 11-18 th Jan. If you need a display in the meantime, if your display is broken for example. You can order now. Ill build and send you the standard off the shelf display. The quality is good. Problem is always, it requires modifications, its time consuming to build. New custom display, has everything built in, to enable it to work in everything, off the shelf. That"s the difference. It can be configured in mins. So, if you need a display, in the meantime, and you can"t wait, order the standard one. The quality is perfectly ok. If you can wait a while, I recommend you wait for the new Multi-Mode. It has amazing functionality*** Multi-Mode program codes, are as follows. Instructions for each letter of code, will be explained, ofcourse in the listings, when it goes on sale. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Ag7r0mVJVIXtXi3tGb30QiFo9q3NVdDD/view?usp=drivesdk If you can"t see the Google link above, containing the program codes. Msg me, I"ll send you it directly.

” A retro Korg 01/W Pro from the 1990s in good condition and with hard flight case. Excellent synth with many voices/sounds, multi track recorder, in-built floppy disk drive (for saving sounds and songs) and full midi control. Cost over £2,500 new, and hardly used for many years.

This is the model with the nicer-feeling keys and longer 76-note keyboard. The LCD screen works well (but backlight very dim as tends to happen to this model), and the right joystick spring gets a little stuck (note slide). Apart from that, this is in full working order with all keys working.

Never been gigged (just stored at home and transported to a church on weekends), although the flight case has some scratches as it went in and out of a car boot. This is a classic synth and still has plenty of life as part of a set up. Lovely sounds and the sequencer is just great.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

” Korg 01W Pro Synthesizer 01/W, Good condition but outputs need fixing as they are very intermittent: A Jack lead needs to be placed very specifically to get output. Better output via headphones. Condition good, a few small scratches. Good midi controller.”

“Korg 01/w Pro X 88 key Music Workstation Synthesizer. Tested and Working. Half the display screen doesn’t work. Has some scratches also, but overall is pretty good. One key is slightly lower than the others but doesn’t effect it performance. Someone sells the display screens here on ebay and they are plug and play. ” Click here to visit listing on eBay

This synthesizer powers up the LCD screen has no issues, but there are simply no sounds on the synthesizer. It may be as simple as just loading the factory presets back into the synth, but I don’t have the facility to do that, so it COULD BE a really simply repair for somebody.

As you can see from the pictures the keyboard is in very good condition, with the usual small cosmetic marks for its age, but some clown has written the notes on the keys in indelible ink which will take a bit of work to clean off!!” Click here to visit listing on eBay

I’M NOT ABLE TO TEST ANY FURTHER (INPUT/OUTPUTS, ECT.) SELLING AS-IS. HAS NORMAL SCUFFING ON THE EXTERIOR. DOES NOT HAVE A FLOPPY DRIVE.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

“Fully tested and works perfect! Very good cosmetic condition w/ minor marks. Includes pre-load factory floopy disk, sustain pedal, and power cord. The lcd backlight is not at the brightest but it is easily readable on a lighted room.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

“Korg 01/W Pro. Condition is “Used”. Keyboard works great as tested: Headphone output, L and R Out, Modulation Joystick, and all Keys work great as tested.Anything not mentioned in the description was not tested.

The only issues are that a couple of the buttons require slightly more force to press, the endcaps have slight damage as shown in the pictures(marks) and the screen is useable but the backlight is dim.

I have the rack mount version of this keyboard and prefer that. The keyboard is in great shape. I am the second owner, the first used it sparingly for corporate gigs and then put it in storage where it has been since the 90’s.

Original pedal and instruction manuals also included, as well as a 61 key SKB flight case- a $300 case on it’s own. ” Click here to search for synths on eBay

Please note that the lcd screen is a bit dim as shown in photos. I’ve been told it’s the internal battery that needs replacing so an easy job for someone who knows how ”

This unit has had a minor service. A new memory battery has been installed, some tact switches were replaced, factory sounds have been reloaded and it has had a good clean inside and out.
