I have got my USED TFT KOMBI in my hands last Saturday and my first goal was to check if really used TFT cannot be properly coded. Definitely this is NOT a problem: for my test I used an F850GS factory equipped with 6AB connectivity.

I swapped the original TFT on F850 with the used part (it was from a crashed 2018 R1200GS Rallye), and it showed the data of the donor motorcycle (mileage, settings, vehicle image and next service date), the kilometers are less than the GS850 and displayed in red due to anti tamper settings.

At this point I tried doing KOMBI mileage alignment, but ISTA+ refused the service plan because the TFT was exchanged without following the ISTA procedure.

So I choose Vehicle Management - Control Unit Replacement - After Replacement procedure for KOMBI3 and followed all the steps, finally the new VIN and data of F850GS were perfectly stored into the used TFT, and it has become an exact clone of the original one (I was able to exchange the two TFT without any errors in ISTA). Also the ABS error was solved after the procedure.

This was only an experiment, my goal will be to install TFT in 2017 R1200GS following the same procedure used above, but first need the connector to do the cable conversion as wrote before, the part is not more available from BMW and the China one from the above link has not the correct shape.

1. Retrofitting all the OEM setup/audio/navigation setup - advantages are it"s all stock/OEM and that"s about it. Disadvantages are given the age of the physical modules, they"re failing more often, there"s multiple points of failure for each module, the oem Bluetooth is outdated and more newer phones don"t work at all or properly, maintaining all the modules/keeping them operational is expensive, to "add on" more functionality is expensive and to then improve the mediocre sound quality nicely is also expensive. There"s many owners who have done the whole hog, retrofitted it all and then added on and then improved SQ. There"s others who already had the OEM setup and have kept the modules going, added on and improved SQ. There"s others who either retrofitted/had it already and are just keeping the modules going with minimal addons, then the same again who aren"t doing anything except keeping them operational as best as.

Would you "ideally" like if all the OEM modules had 21st century electronics swapped in so that physically everything looks stock but the latest technology used? things like the same size monitor panel but higher resolution & possibly touchscreen, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, the latest Bluetooth connectivity/multi point/high definition Codecs etc, Digital Radio and Sirius/XM reception, Digital TV reception, the latest GPS and route planning features, converting the CD changer to perhaps a SSD hard drive storage unit and so on? if so, how much would you pay to have such a setup once you retrofit the OEM modules?

There"s more options, but as you say you don"t want an aftermarket setup, those options currently seem off the table for you. Although not "stock", but using later BMW "stock" items, would you do the NBT retrofit ?

Used TFT clocks DIM from S/V60, XC60, S80II, XC/V70III made in the years 2014 to 2017 (the unit from V40 series can only be used in V40 cars - it has different mechanical shape than x60, x70, x80)
