Digital signage is a way of electronically displaying information in public spaces on campus. A digital sign consists of a display device, a wall mounted LCD screen,
and a computer that will play back content. Rise Vision provides 300+ easily customizable templates to fit a variety of needs. These templates fit use cases such as Collegiate Sports, Sharing Health Information, Alumni Career Highlights, Severe Weather Warnings, and more. Rise Vision does have some limited interactive capabilities so that a viewer can actively select information on the display. However, this requires a custom website specifically tailored to deliver the information as well as a touch display.
Digital signage reduces clutter and improves the viewer experience with a consistent and targeted visual communication. Departments are able to showcase campus services, upcoming events, accomplishments, activities, and more.
Information Services has streamlined the process for acquiring digital signage on campus. Departments simply request a consultation with IS to outline their new signage needs and IS will manage the design and installation aspects of the project going forward (initial project costs are funded by the unit). Once the new system is up and running, it is enrolled in the IS Signage Support Program where ongoing support, maintenance, and equipment lifecycle are covered by IS. See below for what is included for a typical system enrolled in the Signage Support Program.
To ensure widespread compatibility with the various digital signs across campus it is recommended that any signage be made in the following resolutions. All files should be in .jpg or .png file type.
Rise Vision is integrated with Google Accounts to store and run content for your digital signage. Once a designated Content Provider for your department is selected, an email invitation from Rise Vision will be sent with login instructions.
To request new digital signage or transition your current signage system, please submit a ticket to the UMKC IS Technology Support Center or email TechSupportCenter@umkc.edu. If you need a custom solution please email UMKCISProjectManagement@umkc.edu. Someone from IS will be in touch with you to start the process.
What differentiates Nutrislice from every other digital signage vendor is their ability to automate menu content. It’s truly the only system I trust to publish our menus.
The content was just next-level. The example screens we saw from the Nutrislice team really knocked our socks off. It delivered what I expect from any restaurant or quick-service experience, and I knew I wanted that in our dining halls.
We ask for two weeks noticeto ensure your ad will be posted, to allow time for design assistance, and to ensure your ad meets design standards. Your ad will be displayed for a maximum of 2 weeks, otherwise you must create a separate submission with new artwork. We understand not all students are designers so feel free to send us the information you need posted, or even a flyer you have already created and we will create something for you. If you or someone in your organization has design knowledge we appreciate sending us ads that are ready to be posted, as they go up much faster.
ASNMSU and ICT can assist departments with their digital signage needs including needs assessment, equipment purchase and installation, sign design and content development.
These displays can be LED, LCD, or projection screens that are sent content such as images, videos, streaming content, or social media channels from the CMS.
Digital signage can be split into the content, software, and hardware segments. First you have the content that will go on the screen. This can be pictures, videos, or a variety of other content applications.
These files and content apps are handled through the software. The hardware is your digital signage player that will then display the content on your screens.
One of the most important aspects of maintaining a stellar school environment is proper education. With digital signage, administrators can help bridge the school to student gap and engage at a higher level.
Digital screens are harder to miss than static signage so you can expect most students to at least glance at the displays while they are in between classes and before/after school.
The content you need really depends on the solution you have. For restaurants, a simple image display for the menu with a social media feed is a solid choice. For offices and manufacturing, you might want to focus on current/upcoming company events with data visualization charts.
Schools however can utilize almost every content app as digital signage can be used in the classroom, hallway, wayfinding kiosks, and digital menu boards.
The University of Illinois Springfield Student Union prominently features a 9-screen video display wall, located outside of the Student Leadership Center.
The video wall is administered and programmed by the University’s Marketing Department. The goal of the video wall is to communicate with students and university employees about campus events and important university and system-level announcements, as well as highlight the achievements of our students, faculty and staff. The wall is also a tool to communicate with external visitors about the university and its mission. Messages, images, videos and events, carefully chosen and displayed on the video wall correlate directly to those goals.
UIS faculty, staff and student groups may inquire about displaying an image on the video wall, but requests are considered on an individual basis, and UIS Campus Relations has the right to reject the submission for any reason. Requests can be made to Heath Bruce, Assistant Director of Marketing, at hbruc3@uis.edu.
UIS student groups that would like to promote an event in a digital format are encouraged to submit information and a high resolution image for the campus relations digital signs, in accordance with these policies. Images must be created in 1920×1080 pixels with 96 DPI. Images stretched to meet those criteria will appear grainy and distorted and will be rejected. Please submit video wall images in the proper size in a .jpg, .psd or Adobe Acrobat format.
We encourage those with limited experience with graphic design to take advantage of the templates being designed by the Campus Relations Department. They will allow you to simply drop your content into a pre-designed format.

West Virginia University (WVU) is a popular college campus and is known all over the United States. WVU is an expanding campus that has thousands of new students enrolling every year. The constant expansion has led to a need for a simple, easy solution for information to be displayed on the many Donor Walls and Hall of Fame installations across their campus. WVU began to explore the use of digital signage to meet these needs and provide informational capabilities throughout the installations across their campus. With the addition of interactive solutions, WVU would be able to provide quick, valuable information for all users.
Working with the InfoStation team at WVU, TSItouch designed a custom solution to meet the demands of WVU. The products manufactured were ShadowSense and Projective Capacitive (PCAP) touch overlays built specifically to fit the Samsung DM, PM, and QM series displays being utilized on the WVU campus. The TSItouch overlays included customized extended cold rolled steel bezels with highly protective tempered glass. The solution provided an innovative, user-friendly touch experience and protection for the commercial grade Samsung displays. WVU chose to utilize Samsung displays because in their experience the monitors have always had a track record of high quality at a competitive price.
ShadowSense touch technology was first chosen because it is not susceptible to ambient light sources compared to Infrared touch technology. As PCAP was introduced to WVU, they began to make more purchases with this touch technology because the solution has an aesthetically pleasing zero-bezel appearance and is also immune to ambient light sources. With the customized extended bezel of the TSItouch overlays (with ShadowSense), WVU was able to cover all other hardware behind the displays to create a clean, finished look. The operating system, mounting hardware, etc. were enclosed within the final product and hidden from users with side bezels that extended from the front of the solution to ¼” from the wall. The digital content management solution WVU utilizes is Four Winds Interactive (FWI), one of TSItouch’s industry partners. Through leveraging FWI’s content manager and player software, WVU is able to create custom content that supports the visual communications plan of the university.
TSI’s products are now installed in 13 buildings on the Morgantown campus, with 17 installs utilizing fully interactive content. “The products we have purchased from TSI have helped to continue the saturation of digital signage at WVU while giving our monitors’ screens more protection. They also give us the ability for interactivity in the future and a clean installation without needing to add on any additional material to [the] sides of our monitor to hide the mounts and wire from a profile view of the installation,” said Steve Stavar. By connecting interactivity with digital signage, WVU is engaging more and more with their students, staff, and visitors.
The interest of adding dependable interactivity to their digital signage network brought WVU to TSItouch. By understanding WVU’s expectations and requirements, TSItouch continues to work with WVU to create custom touch solutions to meet their needs. The high quality custom touch overlays were installed on reliable displays to allow for interaction with the WVU’s digital content while maintaining a clean, professional look with no wires or hardware visible.
The project with West Virginia University exemplifies the TSItouch mission statement; “We are dedicated to consistently providing our customers with high quality, cost-effective products and services”. TSItouch offers only the best in the industry. With our experience in customized solutions, TSItouch can manufacture a product to meet any customers’ specifications.
Dynamic digital signage (DDS) is information that is displayed digitally through monitors that are mounted inside buildings. When you own a digital signage monitor, you can fully customize its display to support your layout preferences and content, including images and video with sound. Some departments display news stories, meeting schedules, donation lists, and building directories.
Please contact Classroom Technical Services (CTS) at ctstech@umn.edu with your installation request. CTS handles all purchasing and installation for digital signage monitors. Once you reach out, we will work with you on pricing, next steps, and where to install your monitor.
Digital signage monitors can be installed in any campus building throughout the University of Minnesota system as well as off-campus facilities, such as research stations and outreach centers.
Each department that owns a digital signage monitor is responsible for creating and maintaining their own content to display. Departments are also responsible for assigning digital signage to specific individuals. Those with access use Carousel Frontdoor to approve, upload, and or manage digital signage content. Note that Emergency Management has override access on each campus.
Submit the Digital Signage Access form to add, remove, or change user access to your digital signage display monitor. You should submit this form anytime you need roles updated.
Digital signage presents great communication opportunities for higher ed institutions. Fast, dynamic and flexible, signage platforms allow institutions to share key information regarding campus activities and events, and to broadcast instructions or updates in emergencies.
Many colleges have digital signage networks with displays in high-traffic areas—such as student centers and major academic halls—that efficiently reach large audiences.
That versatility offers the potential to generate digital signage revenue, which is especially appealing as campus operating costs increase and public funding sources dwindle.
Colleges that bring in outside installers to develop a digital signage system sometimes also partner with those companies for managed services, including sponsored content, from which the school receives a percentage of revenue.
2. In-house advertising: Student groups looking to promote events and on-campus partners (such as the campus store) buy space—usually at a low or discounted rate.
When officials wish to keep campuses free from outside ads, they may sell sign space to school-related entities, campus organizations and partner institutions—keeping content consistent with the school’s mission and values.
While traditional signs need to be physically replaced, digital signs allow for limitless customization and even provide opportunities for cost-saving solutions, such as replacing the need for staff to provide information during an event.
In addition, digital signage can replace brochures, maps and other information resources on many campuses, further reducing costs and providing significant return on investment.
4. Donor relations: Digital signage can be used as a tool to recognize current donors or as a tool to engage students and build long-term relationships.
Also, administrators can interact with student social media accounts by posting student tweets, Snapchats, or images from sporting events or campus activities on signs.
One of the newest design trends for schools is usinginteractive digital signagein the main lobby, the front office, or even in the cafeteria and hallways. It’s easy to understand why digital signage has become popular—it’s a sleek, versatile solution that can be customized to welcome students to school, post announcements, show an interactive campus map, or get the students involved in learning games from the moment they step into the building. In other words, interactive digital signage can help schools achieve their mission by engaging students, relaying important information, and strengthening community.
Clear Touchinteractive panelscan easily serve as a digital signage system—with the added benefits of being more robust and more affordable than other options. Plus, using the same panels for your digital signage as you use for your classroom makesinstallation, setup and maintenancemuch simpler.
Clear Touch Interactive Displays are ideal for creating a digital signage network for your campus because they are easy to install and easy to control. The top benefits include:
Remote Monitoring & Content Management.According toEdTech Magazine, the content management system that you choose for your digital signage network is just as important as the monitor that you choose. If you rely entirely on hardware devices, such asbuilt-in computersor thumb drives, you have limited control over how your images display and you’re more likely to have to climb ladders or walk to specific areas to switch content manually. However, if you rely on an Internet-based system, the signage is only as reliable as your connection. Clear Touch Interactive displays include a license toEasiRemote, a software that allows users to access and manage content on all displays in the same system from your desktop. Simply setup all of the digital signage displays at your school in the same group to quickly and easily control what students and visitors see.
Seamless Content Creation.Again, your digital signage network is only as good as the content you put on it. Each Clear Touch panel arrives with a license toSnowflake MultiTeach, allowing users to easily create interactive digital animations, scavenger hunts, pop quizzes, campus maps, and more. In fact, we’ve compiled 8 Creative Ways to Use Digital Signage at Your School—all of which can be created with Snowflake MultiTeach. Snowflake also makes it easy to incorporate online resources and other interactive elements into your presentation and to archive and organize all of your content. With Clear Touch displays, users can begin to build a content library for their digital signage network right away.
Custom Installation & Easy Maintenance. Many of the digital signage options and self-service kiosks currently available to schools are designed only for that one purpose. For example, the kiosks may be built-in to immobile floor stands that are at a preset height. While this may work if you’re designing and building your school with the digital signage in mind, it’s less useful for schools that already exist—and it makes it incredibly difficult to upgrade the technology at a later date or send the digital signage in for maintenance. What if your students aren’t tall enough for the signage? What if you need a wall display in one location and a free-standing kiosk at another? Clear Touch accessories include both standard andadjustable wall mountsas well as mobile, adjustable, and convertible stands. This means that schools can design a digital signage network to their exact specifications. Plus, since you’re not locked in, if one of the signs needs repairs, we can troubleshoot on-site or simply switch the panel out for another one while we take it in. Upgrade anytime with ease.
Contact Clear Touchif you’d like to know more about how we can help you create an easy-to-manage, easy-to-use interactive digital signage network at your school.
