Touchscreens are not the newest technology since the monitor technology has been in use since the 1970s and recent advances in mobile phone technology, computer tablets and PDA’s have seen them receive a boost in recent years.
With a quickly expanding digital signage market which is expected to continue to expand, they will become the norm for desktops& rugged monitors and other screen signage applications.
A recent report from industry analysts suggests that touchscreen will play a key role in the digital advertising or signage market in the coming years with revenues from these touch displays expecting to reach a value of $101.6 Billion by the year 2026, growing with a CAGR of 9.1% between 2018 and 2026.
Much of this increase, the report concludes, will have been generated for the demand for touchscreens in mobile and personal computing but also, the report suggests, many traditional LCD or plasma screens currently used in signage and rugged environments are likely to be replaced with LCD technology.
With innovations like the iPhone and the latest Microsoft Windows operating system being very touch-orientated, combined with the falling costs of the technology, we may even see the costs of conventional displays and industrial LCD monitors greatly diminishing over time. This is one of the goals of faytech NA – improving value and performance while offering competitive pricing.
The touch screen is versatile for digital signage in that it allows interactivity that is not possible with conventional LCD unless they are combined with a keyboard or other input device.
However, having a single flat screen that acts both as a dynamic output and input device for little additional cost is far more attractive to the digital signage market than conventional output.
One area that industrial touch screen monitor may struggle to operate safely in, however, is in the digital outdoor signage market. As touch monitors need to have an exposed screen, protecting the surface from the natural elements can be problematic. Thanks to the development of enclosures, we can eliminate that problem.
In any setting that it is used, the industrial touchscreen monitor offers the advantage of durability. Aside from being both an input and output device, it is also something that can weather everyday wear and tear more effectively. In fact, these machines are comparably more resistant to possible causes of damage such as water and grease and they are also more electrically stable.
When choosing a industrial touchscreen display to use for your store, laboratory, fabrication plant, shop or office, consider the volume of people who will probably be using it as well as the level of clarity and sensitivity to touch that will make the machine most useful both to you as a business owner and especially to your customers or clients. Even for a small business owner, there’s a lot that you can do to make a difference among your target customers and prospect customers.
Using an LCD touch device in your shop is one example when a Faytech North America touch screen solution would be handy. With this, there is a better way of managing their queries regarding what you offer, and you’ll also have a better way of giving them the information they need. You will have the advantage of the technology at your fingertips, and you will be able to use it not just for your personal pleasure but also for the growth of your business.
In most cases, touchscreen manufacturers have simply become more competitive. This means lower prices and better quality for all of us! Imagine the convenience you’ll be giving your clients when you have a touch-screen monitor in your store. Whether it’s a bookshop, a boutique or other businesses, people can just come and use the screen to inquire about your available products. In a bookshop, for example, they can inquire about the availability of a certain book they like. They can go through the screen and find out about the details of such a book, what it’s all about, who the author is and etc.
Having an interactive device in your store is a win-win situation for both you, as the business owner, and your customer. When people don’t have to bug you about questions the computer can answer and when you don’t have to stop in the middle of a crucial task to entertain questions, you are already doing each other a favor. This favor is simply to perform your role better in the businesses equation that you have found yourself in. Touch screen displays are also found in the retail and food industries.
Having a touch device to quickly take orders, receive payments, request information, preview product or service details or view merchandise not only saves valuable desk space but provides an intuitive interface for employees and customers. Recently flat-panel touchscreen monitors have replaced CRT or larger displays saving even more space.
The contrast on touch monitors is not always as good as their regular counterpart. This is because of the various touch sensors (capacitive or resistive) that need to be included to replace a keyboard or a mouse.
Another setback is the cost. While the cost is generally low, touch screen display still cost more than regular ones because of the additional built-in sensors. Even with these minor cost increases, they are becoming popular with consumers. As the demand increases, the cost will go down and the technology will improve to the point where nearly each of them is touch-enabled.

Industrial touch screen monitors are refer to as open frame touch screen displays or open-frame monitors. The unit typically consists of a metal frame that contains the monitor’s internals and LCD screen without the use of a housing or bezel. A critical feature of industrial touch screen displays is that they are a construct of industrial-grade materials. Which usually last much longer and are far more rugged than consumer-grade devices.
Industrial touch screen monitors design are for heavy-duty devices and constant use by staff. For example such as in CNC machines for commercial use. It’s to the test in these settings continually, where they must withstand harsh operating conditions to remain functional.
An interactive kiosk is another example of industrial touch screens that can be used in a harsh environment. Industrial-grade touch screen displays are built into kiosks to withstand continuous human use. A touch screen display for commercial use is mainly employed to control more comprehensive workstations.
This touch technology is from modern touch technology. It put together a film screen and a glass panel with a thin metallic panel and a minimal gap in between. The purpose is for a resistive touch screen. The purpose is for a resistive touch screen. When you touch the screen, two metallic frames maintain contact, generating an electric current that informs the unit of the point of contact.
One of its main benefits is that it can operate by any object, including fingers, a pencil, a stylus, or a gloved hand. Its only requirement is a precise pressure point on the screen. Another advantage of this technology is need low cost and only need low power. Additionally, 5-wire resistive screens can protect against liquids and substances on the board, such as moisture, dirt, grease, and oil.
Another commonly used contact technology is surface capacitive. Which consists of a glass plate sandwiched between a translucent electrode layer and a protective shield or cover. Static electricity is to operate surface capacitive displays, and it comes from the human body. Therefore, this touch interface with a finger or a stylus pen that carries an electrical charge.
The benefit of surface capacitive touch design over 5-wire resistive touch is that it provides consumers with a higher picture consistency. The film is usually more durable and offers outstanding resistance to sweat, grease, and dust, while also offering a good level of scratch resistance.
Multi-touch activation is a characteristic of projected capacitive touch screen devices that allows for simultaneous feedback from several outlets. A projected capacitive touch screen consists of an integrated circuit chip and a transparent electrode layer enclosed in a glass panel. This produces a three-dimensional electrostatic field that is triggered when a finger makes contact only with the screen, enabling the computer to establish the exact position of the contact points.
Some of the main benefits of projected capacitive touch technology are its excellent picture quality. As well as it is being impervious to liquids and other surface pollutants, and much less prone to nicks and scratches than surface capacitive displays. Additionally, one of the most significant advantages of this touch system is its multi-touch capability.
The main disadvantage of projected capacitive touch technology is that it can only be activated with a bare finger or with medical or thin cotton gloves. Additionally, it is vulnerable to electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference (EMI/RFI).
SAW contact technology utilizes a collection of piezoelectric materials (devices that transform pressure differences to electric signals) and receivers around the screen’s perimeter. That results in the formation of an unseen field of electromagnetic waves on the panel’s surface. It absorbs the point of contact. That informs the system of the contact location on the phone, which it will send to the machine.
One of the best things about SAW contact technology is it can interface with almost anything. It can interface with bare skin or a tightly gloved finger, which gives it an advantage over any other existing touch technology. Additionally, surface acoustic wave displays have superior illumination, picture resolution, and scratch resistance. SAW displays are straightforward to use. That is the reason why manufacturers company use specific systems of high-end touch monitors. The disadvantages of SAW include the inability to control it with rough objects such as a fingertip, pen, or credit card, but this is a minor downside. Additionally, the screen must keep clean because accumulation of solid particles may result in unresponsive areas. Moreover, the presence of water droplets can also result in false activations, which is especially inconvenient for use in work environments such asrestaurants, cafes, and bars.
Infrared (IR) displays project an invisible stream of light beams around the screen using IR receivers and emitters. This eliminates a need for a protective film or covers over the display, resulting in the highest picture brightness and accuracy possible. When an entity approaches the display, the infrared beams are disrupted, and the sensors inform the machine of the orientation of any contact points.
One of the main benefits of infrared contact technology is that it provides unmatched vibrancy and picture accuracy. It is, in fact, the finest of all touch technologies. It has an endless “touch-life” and is fully resistant to surface scratching.
However, there are also a few drawbacks of IR technology to consider. Due to its high sensitivity, a build-up of grease, dust, or oils on the screen may cause it to fail. These displays, which are at the high end of the price range, are also not waterproof and may not function adequately if they come into contact with moisture. In addition, they can also be vulnerable to ambient light interference.
Thanks to their fast processing speed, touch screens boast improved performance. Additionally, touch screens provide consumers with intuitive interaction. Finally, touch screen technology is simplistic and allows direct interfacing, rather than relying on peripherals such as a mouse and keyboard.

These could also be good for large-format displays where multiple people may be trying to click around, or if the software has any added multi-touch functionality (similar to Apple’s trackpad two-finger scroll or page flip motions).
• 5-wire resistive or infrared touch screens:Between the two, they cover the best circumstances for touch screen technology from transmissivity, type of object able to be used (stylus vs. finger), and more. There are technically five different types of touch screen technology, which you can read more about here.
We made a quick list of five the best touch screen options for your office lobbies and elevator bays. At Robin, we’ve tried out both Chromebase and Elo touch screen displays, both being solid options as they’re relatively easy to mount and setup. We also pulled some favorites from across the web.
Pros:Many format and size options, from seamless to matrixed video walls to simple large format touch screen displays. Includes infrared and multi-touch options.Cons:They seem to be expensive (but, you get what you pay for, if you’re looking for a 70” display or an entire wall)
You’re in luck. A fair amount of the larger format touch screen technology we’ve seen works with a standard TV. Seems like the industry recognizes it’s worth reusing a standard TV and simply making it touch-enabled with an overlay “frame” of sorts. Here are a ton of size options for infrared, multi-touch overlays from OPTIR via Tyco Touch.
An ideal office scenario would be to have a large-format touch screen monitor in your lobby and on each floor in the elevator bay or kitchen areas. These are often the highest-trafficked collision points in an office and therefore the places where employees would greatly benefit from seeing an interactive map and schedule of the workplace.
As your company grows, you’ll want to keep up the pace of strong internal communications and visibility. Large-format displays, especially touch screen ones, help you accomplish this objective really easily.

The OTDS touch monitor series features an IPS wide viewing angle. “IPS displays are suitable for those seeking color accuracy and screen consistency with wide viewing angles,” explains Yang. “It also has an IP65/IP66 front panel; supports a wide range of operating temperatures (from -40°C through 80°C); 1x VGA, 1x DP, and 1x HDMI port; DC 12V power input (optional DC 9V~36V); backside OSD buttons for ease of use; it is similarly available in a range of screen sizes through 15", 15.6", 17", 19", 21.5", and 24". Just like the OTDS Panel PC, the OTDS touch monitor features IEC 60945 international standard for maritime navigation and radiocommunication equipment and systems. Certification support,” Yang adds, “is also available by project request. Options for the OTDS touch monitor include 256 levels of dimming, high brightness (1000/1200/1500 nits), optical bonding using MOSMITE film, vandal-proof glass, waterproof connectors and OSD on front right side.”
Yang recommends the OTDS combo for use in extreme operating environments for marine and offshore, oil and gas, naval and defense, transportation, industrial automation and various outdoor human-machine interface (HMI) applications. Yang believes the OTDS outdoor display product series is an ideal solution for customers looking for and/or working with industrial display systems and solutions requiring wide temperature, highly-flexible and rugged design for applications in extreme environments.
“We designed the OTDS series of marine-grade touch monitors when we realized that off-the-shelf (OTS) touch displays in the marketplace failed to meet the growing demands and requirements for customizable features for today’s diverse use cases,” says Yang. “Other OTS monitors lack options, and when it comes to customization requests, for even just one small modification, often requires a high minimum order quantity (MOQ) with a long lead time. So, we’ve made it our business to provide the convenience and simplicity of one-stop shopping,” Yang continues. “In addition,” she adds, “Portwell is able to offer low MOQ and provides quick delivery of samples.”
“We designed the OTDS outdoor display solution series with marine-grade applications in mind, featuring a PCAP touch screen, for example, specifically for its high durability and robustness,” says Frank Shen, VP of product marketing at American Portwell Technology. “And, since it is also designed for aiming at outdoor operations, we included options for up to 1500 nits high brightness for greater readability in sunlight, optical bonding with MOSMITE film reducing glaze to a virtually reflection-free level, as well as vandal-proof glass. We also added an IP65/IP66 front panel to protect it from dust and waterproof connectors. A fan-less design is validated for efficient heat dissipation and affirms the stability and longevity required for mission critical deployment. What’s more,” he confirms, “we provide dedicated resource and expertise, working closely with customers to meet their product and project requirements in each and every unique application.”
This 21.5" industrial monitor is designed with IP65-rated dustproof and waterproof protection, suitable for production workshops that require regular cleaning. For example, for food processing and chemical industries, cleaning becomes very easy. And also suitable for outdoor use, such as kiosks, smart parcel lockers.
This monitor supports multi-point projective capacitive touch screens, The double glass design of the capacitive touch screen can not only protect the conductors and sensors but also prevent external environmental factors from affecting the touch screen. Even if the screen is dirty, dust, or oil stains, the capacitive touch screen can still accurately calculate the touch position.
The interface of the industrial monitor determines the quality of image transmission. At present, common interfaces of Touch Think industrial monitor include HDMI, DP, DVI, VGA, and RJ45, and so on. And we support more customized interfaces.
The industrial monitors have passed the EMI/EMC test, are suitably used in multi-environments, and have the capability for electromagnetic interference in the environment has a certain degree of immunity, namely high electromagnetic sensitivity.
Industrial-grade features design, presenting 24/7 stable performance, low power consumption, built-in anti-dropping interface, with anti-electromagnetic interference, anti-static, anti-surge, and other characteristics.
