KTM’s Duke range is out, and the family has just gotten bigger. There’s a new 250 Duke that slots between the 200 Duke and 390 Duke. The smallest of the lot gets negligible updates while the 250 borrows styling cues, side-mounted exhaust and slipper clutch from the 390. The best of features are still reserved for the 390, which gets ride-by-wire, adjustable brake and clutch levers, split LED headlights and a segment first, a 5-inch colour TFT display. Here are five things the screen allows you to do.

The colour TFT display has most of the right side reserved for the usual information, such as the tachometer, trip meter, odometer fuel gauge and speedometer. As you keep going faster and faster, it gets more and more difficult to read the speedometer as you can’t afford to take your eyes off the tarmac. The TFT display on this KTM increases the font size of the speedometer gradually as you go past 80kmph to make it easier to read quickly, even as you’re picking up pace.

The bike will allow you to connect your smartphone to it via Bluetooth using KTM’s My Ride app, which will allow you to scroll through your music playlist. You’ll also be able to control the playback using the controls on the left side of the handlebar. Using a motorcycle-specific Bluetooth communicator in conjunction with the bike’s playback controls makes for a perfect companion for longer rides.

This is not part of the standard feature list at the moment, but the hardware is already there to enable it. Multiple ABS modes are said to be programmed into the bike’s software for European markets, though, and KTM could unlock the feature for India at a later stage for an extra price.

The 390’s TFT Display on the launch bike had two modes: Road and Super Moto. Super Moto will complement the ABS mode that goes by the same name. It will allow you spin the rear wheel faster than the front without the electronics cutting in so you can slide the rear using the engine’s power. The inclusion of ride-by-wire has allowed KTM to include this feature in the new 390 Duke. However, just like the ABS modes, these ride modes are not on offer at the moment for India. They could be on offer at a later stage as optional extras, possibly as part of the KTM PowerParts bouquet.

It was a remarkable day in the history of the Indian two-wheeler industry when Bajaj launched the first-generation KTM 390 Duke in India back in 2013. It was not the first time that a manufacturer launched a 350-400cc performance bike in the country with a price tag under Rs 2 lakh. However, the package of sportiness and performance that the Austrian brand offered was really uncomparable in this price bracket. And now, Bajaj has launched an all-new 390 Duke in the form of its 2017 model, which not only gets upgraded features but looks much sharper and meaner than its predecessor.

You can see the heavy visual updates in the bike as it gets a completely new styling and some changes in its trellis frame as well. The 2017 KTM 390 Duke receives a revised rear frame that is bolted to the main frame, unlike the welded one in the previous model. The bike shares new style lines with the 2017 KTM 1290 Super Duke R that almost keeps the silhouette of its predecessor.

If we compare the new 390 Duke with the old model, all the edges are much sharper, like the headlamp, fuel tank extenders and the tail. The bike now sports a more minimalistic design approach with even smaller body panels, giving it a more aggressive naked sport styling. The rear view mirrors in the updated model are wider, providing a better back view. Also, the bike now gets a UV protected paint that will last longer even if you park your bike under direct sunlight.

Talking about the dimensions of both the 2017 and the previous models of the 390 Duke, noticeable changes have been made to make the bike agiler. The steering head angle has been increased by one degree while the wheelbase has been reduced by around 10mm. Ground clearance has been increased from 170mm to 178mm and the saddle is also 30mm taller now, increasing the seat height to 830mm. The fuel tank capacity has also been increased from 11.2 litres to 13.5 litres, providing the bike with an increased range.

The new model also gets a full-colour TFT screen instrument cluster - another major update that looks quite interesting. Ditching the headlight-mounted LCD display, the new screen comes directly mounted on the handlebar and some extra buttons have been provided on the left switchgear to control the more functional console.

It also gets KTM My Ride that allows tethering to your smartphone, giving you full control over incoming calls, and an audio player. All the information pops up on the bike"s display and you can manage this optional extra with the menu switch. The ignition key hole has also been shifted from the handlebar to the front-top of the fuel tank. The new model also gets adjustable brake and clutch levers, so one can set them according to the requirement.

The 2017 KTM 390 Duke receives ride-by-wire technology fro better throttle response as compared to its predecessor. The bike retains the same Bosch 9MP dual-channel ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) that ensures safe braking even in emergency conditions. Another new feature added is EVAP system that prevents evaporative fuel losses.

At its heart, the new-generation KTM 390 Duke continues with the same 373.3cc, liquid-cooled single that was doing duty on its predecessor as well. However, the 4-valve motor gets a new side-slung exhaust muffler along with some internal changes to make it compliant with the more stringent Euro4 and BS-IV emission standards.

Coming to the features, let"s first talk about those which have been retained from the previous version. The 390 Duke continues to sport the WP suspension setup, comprising of 43mm upside-down front forks and a monoshock at the rear. However, the front forks are now open cartridge type with adjustable height, providing a broad spectrum of use. While the suspension travel remains unchanged at the rear, the front movement has been reduced from 150mm to 142mm.

Till now, we have learned that the 2017 KTM 390 Duke has got significant updates compared to its older model. Still, the question is, at what cost? The new model has been priced at Rs 2,25,750 (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is around Rs 30000 more than the previous model. The upgraded specifications perfectly justify the extra cost, however, we will be able to provide a clearer word on it after riding the bike. KTM India has finally listed the 2022 RC 390 on its official website, along with the specifications of the motorcycle as well as the price, hinting that a launch is imminent. The new-gen RC 390 has been listed at a base price of Rs 3,13,922 (ex-showroom, New Delhi), which makes it around Rs 37,000 more expensive than the model it is set to replace.

The biggest change over the outgoing model is the design, with the 2022 RC 390 featuring a slightly controversial face with a large LED headlamp placed inside the new front fairing, surrounded by LED DRLs-cum-indicators on either side. The RC 390 also gets new fairings, a bigger visor, new mirrors, a slightly more sculpted and bigger 13.7-litre fuel tank, new split seats, as well as brand-new sporty-looking alloy wheels. The new RC 390 will be available in two paint schemes at launch - KTM Factory Racing Blue and KTM Electronic Orange.

The 2022 KTM RC 390 is built on a tubular split-trellis frame with a newly engineered bolt-on subframe. Powering the bike is the same 373 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder DOHC engine as before. It belts out 43.5 PS of max power at 9,000 rpm and 37 Nm of peak torque available at 7,000 rpm, and is mated to a 6-speed transmission.

The new-gen RC 390 has 153 mm of ground clearance and weighs in at 172 kg. The seat is set at a height of 835 mm. Moreover, the motorcycle also gets a TFT multi-function display like the 390 Duke, along with traction control, cornering ABS, quickshifter, and Supermoto ABS. Do note that KTM is yet to reveal the exact India launch date of the 2022 RC 390, however, we expect it to happen very soon now that the new motorcycle has made it to the brand"s website.

BMW has updated its entire K 1600 lineup, which includes four models powered by a liquid-cooled, 1,649cc inline-Six. The engine is now Euro 5 compliant and still makes 160 peak horsepower, though it now arrives at 6,750 rpm, 1,000 rpm earlier than before. Peak torque has increased to 133 lb-ft, up from 129, at 5,250 rpm. Eagerly anticipated since a concept was shown at EICMA in 2019, the 2022 Husqvarna Norden 901 is an all-new adventure bike based on the KTM 890 Adventure platform. It’s powered by the same 105-horsepower 890cc parallel-Twin, and it’s equipped with a fully electronics package, adjustable long-travel suspension, 21-inch front/18-inch tubeless spoked wheels, and much more. The 2022 Indian Chief Bobber Dark Horse gets the larger, more powerful Thunderstroke 116 V-Twin, the 4-inch display with Ride Command, and standard ABS. Sixteen-inch wheels have chrome spokes and gloss black rims, and nearly everything gets a menacing, blacked-out look. The Chief Bobber Dark Horse comes in Black Smoke, Titanium Smoke, and Sagebrush Smoke, and pricing starts at $18,999.

The up-spec 2022 Indian FTR S features a Bluetooth ready 4.3-inch Ride Command touchscreen display, giving riders access to three selectable ride modes and IMU-supported rider aides like cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, rear-wheel lift mitigation, and stability control. Standard equipment includes a fast-charging USB port, an Akrapovič slip-on exhaust, and fully adjustable Sachs suspension. It’s available in Maroon Metallic (above) and White Smoke, and pricing starts at $14,999.

For touring riders who want more power, safety, and sophistication, the 2022 Indian Super Chief Limited features a quick-release windscreen, saddlebags, a touring seat with passenger pad, floorboards, and traditional pullback handlebars like the base-model Super Chief. The Limited adds the Thunderstroke 116 V-twin, standard ABS, and a 4-inch round display with Bluetooth-connected Ride Command. Chrome finishes and rich metallic paint make the Super Chief Limited extra special. It comes in Black Metallic, BlueSlate Metallic, and Maroon Metallic, and pricing starts at $20,999.

A popular middleweight sport-tourer since it was introduced in 2008, Kawasaki’s 649cc parallel-Twin-powered Versys 650 gets new traction control, refreshed styling with an adjustable windscreen and LED lighting, and a new TFT color display with Bluetooth connectivity. The 2022 Kawasaki Versys 650 is available in Metallic Spark Black/Metallic Flat Spark Black for $8,899 or Candy Lime Green/Metallic Flat Spark Black/Metallic Spark Black for $9,099. With the introduction of the 390 Adventure in 2020, KTM established a new benchmark for the small-capacity adventure category. The 2022 KTM 390 Adventure builds on that foundation with new traction control with Street and Off-Road modes, stronger five-spoke cast wheels shod with Continental TKC 70 tires, and new graphics inspired by KTM’s Dakar-winning Factory Rally team. Joining the 890 Duke and 890 Duke R in KTM’s 2022 lineup is the new 890 Duke GP. Based on the 890 Duke, it stands apart with orange-and-black livery inspired by KTM’s RC16 GP racebike. Orange bodywork replaces the normally all-black panels covering the subframe, and there’so a special orange passenger seat cover with special “890 Duke GP” graphics. The orange treatment continues with orange powdercoated wheels and orange highlights on the front fender and headlight frame. MSRP is $11,899.

KTM’s top-dog, off-road-ready adventure bike, the 1290 Super Adventure R gets a range of updates for 2022, including engine and chassis tweaks, updated WP XPLOR suspension, Bridgestone AX41 tires, rally-inspired bodywork, and more.⁠ MSRP is $19,499.

The street-oriented 2022 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S has been updated with even more tech, comfort, and performance for the open road. Its engine is lighter, its chassis has been updated, and it gets new WP APEX Semi-Active Technology (SAT) suspension. It also gets radar-assisted adaptive cruise control (ACC) and a new 7-inch TFT display. MSRP is $19,499.

Known as “The Beast,” the 2022 KTM 1290 Super Duke R Evo features new WP Semi-Active Technology (SAT) suspension with three modes (Sport, Street, Comfort); an optional Suspension Pro package adds three additional modes (Track, Advanced, and Auto) as well as automatic preload adjustment with three levels (Low, Standard, and High). The throttle-by-wire system features a new 65-degree quick-turn throttle (reduced by 7 degrees) for a faster and more responsive throttle while also reducing rider wrist angle as well as elbow drop at full throttle. The 1290 Super Duke R Evo is powered by the same liquid-cooled, 1,301cc V-Twin that makes a claimed 180 horsepower and 103 lb-ft of torque. It gets more aggressive bodywork and two new colorways. MSRP is $19,599.

The 2022 KTM RC 390 gets new engine mapping and a revised airbox that helps its liquid-cooled, DOHC, 4-valve, 373cc Single make more torque. I had learned how to navigate the weight of a big bike and from then on I never really felt the need to step back to a smaller displacement. After a decade riding big bikes I almost forgot how good it felt to ride something smaller, until I stumbled upon the 390 adventure.

But the bike looked great! It had a very simple but aggressive line and some extras that definitely drew my attention. The 390 Adventure I was given to test was equipped with Akrapovic muffler, Quickshifter+, Powerparts seat and Continental TCK 70, which are among my favourite tires.

The second and more grunty torque peak happens at 6000–6500 rpm. Here, the engine shines and delivers the KTM performance we all know about, even for a relatively small bike. Keep in mind that this is still a 373 cc single cyclinder engine, barely passing the 43 hp mark. But again, the bike weighs only 348 lb (160 kg) dry with a 14.5 liter fuel tank, so it ends up being one of the lightest bikes in its category.

The only discomfort I found was while riding standing up offroad. The handlebar was quite low and it was painful to adjust my riding to absorb all the shocks, especially when riding downhill. Also, I wouldn’t probably feel comfortable in the long run with the leg positioning forced by the little KTM, since the distance from the pegs to the seat is quite short—a problem that occurred also on her bigger sisters (the 790/890) but that was easily fixable by replacing the standard seat with a Powerparts item.

Another little issue I found, probably again for my size only, was that the gear pedal was very short. I had trouble sometimes sliding my foot under the lever to upshift. This happened especially with boots on.

Again, this has been an issue for me just because my size (I wear size 13 boots) and it may not be the case for you if you are more proportionate to the machine.

Many customers complained about the fact that the bike came with alloy wheels instead of spoked ones, cleary a detail that puts it more in the street department than the offroad one. But the bike is so light that I couldn’t feel any difference per se. But don’t take my word for it! Quinn Cody (R&D specialist for KTM USA and massive guy) took the 390 fully loaded on some gnarly terrains and it managed to bring it back in one piece with these rims on. The maneuverability and light weight of this motorcycle are key strengths!

One feature that didn’t really convince me was the MTC. Traction control is a feature that indeed provides extra safety, especially on wet surfaces, but it became annoying while riding offroad. The system has to be disabled while the bike is stopped and it gets re-enabled automatically every time the bike turns off and on again. Not the best considering that turning off the bike, on a muddy uphill, could happen several times in one go.
