TFT LCD: A thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT LCD) is a type of liquid crystal display (LCD) that makes use of thin-film transistor technology in order to improve qualities such as contrast and addressability. TFT technology means that an individual transistor is used to drive each individual pixel, allowing for faster response times.
InCell: In-cell displays are revolutionary in the sense that they combine a digitizer, use touch input, and integrate an LCD screen into a single-layer display. Some reports also suggest that in-cell technology displays provide better resolution compared to standard LCD screens.
IPS LCD: IPS LCDs are the next level of TFT LCD displays providing wider viewing angles and lower power consumption which leads to much-improved battery life. IPS-LCDs obviously are costlier than normal TFT LCD.
OLED: This happens to be the newest technology in for displays of mobiles and monitors. As far as the OLED tech is concerned you will find an organic material which is placed between two conducting sheets (an anode and a cathode), which are also put between a glass top plate (seal) and a glass-bottom plate (substrate).
AMOLED: AMOLED is a different type of OLED displays for mobiles and are fast gaining popularity in the top-end smartphone segment. AMOLED screens can show us many things that we are present on OLED display like brilliant color reproduction, lightweight, good battery life, proper brightness, etc.
Super AMOLED: Super AMOLED displays take upon the AMOLED displays and is primarily developed by Samsung. Super AMOLED is constructed with touch sensors placed on the display itself, as opposed to creating a separate touch-sensitive layer (as in capacitive touch screen). This makes it the thinnest display technology on the market. Super AMOLED displays are currently only present in Samsung devices but more phones could use the technology in the future.

OPPO has launched the F7 smartphone in Pakistan today. The new OPPO F7 utilizes improved AI technology for selfie photography as well as many other AI-powered features.
With the a Super Full Screen and latest software, the F7 is promising to offer consumers a better user experience. The company has initially launched the OPPO F7 with 64GB internal storage and 4GB RAM in Pakistan which is available from April 21st in three colors – Solar Red, Moonlight Silver and Diamond Black. The new smartphone costs PKR 39,899/-
Another model of OPPO F7 will soon be available in market with 128GB internal storage and 6GB RAM. That variant will cost PKR 49,899 and will be available in Solar Red and Diamond Black color.
OPPO Pakistan announced the new smartphone during the launch event in Lahore. As usual in an OPPO launch event, Pakistan’s renowned celebrities were present – namely Imran Abbas, Muneeb Butt, Aiman Khan, Iqra Aziz, Hina Altaf, Ramsha Khan, Alyzeh Gabol and Captain of Pakistan Cricket Team, Sarfaraz Ahmed.
The F7 comes with an improved 2280 x 1080 resolution, 6.23-inch FHD+ Super Full Screen gives a much more colorful, vivid and immersive visual experience. The larger screen fits perfectly in the palm of your hand. The F7 is also one of the first smartphones with a customized 19:9 aspect ratio, giving the user a larger area of effect for popular role-playing and strategy games. It achieves this amazing visual feat by incorporating a notch, featuring the front camera, brand-new antenna and light sensor, neatly integrated into the screen.
The F7 runs on the latest 64-bit 4GB Octa-core processor, with a much refined operating system. Based on Android 8.1, ColorOS 5.0 has AI built into the software for better systems management. The Color OS 5.0 AI power manager allocates processing power accordingly to the right app, making sure the phone runs at its best. As such, F7 runs 80 percent faster than its F5 predecessor when running multiple apps together. Additionally, it also allocates power usage appropriately, extending the average daily usage of battery life.
The App-in-App allows the user to pick up an incoming call while continuing gaming or watching a movie. The Full Screen Multitasking on the F7 is the first in the industry lets the user use gestures to navigate between apps.
The F7 features a 25MP front camera with real-time High Dynamic Range (HDR) sensor. According to press statement, images taken with the F7 will have a lot more “information” – a higher range of details, luminance and color levels when shot in bright sunlight or the shade, similar to images taken with a good quality digital cameras.
The OPPO F7’s AI Beauty 2.0 Technology enhances “Your Beauty Expert” with the new advances including more accurate facial recognition capability and better beautification effects for gender and age. The F7 is one of the first smartphones with a customized 19:9 aspect ratio. It also comes with an improved 2280 x 1080 resolution, 6.23-inch FHD+ Super Full Screen giving a much more colorful, vivid and immersive visual experience.
“We are thrilled to be launching the OPPO F7 in Pakistan. The F7’s extraordinary camera resolution and revolutionary AI technology will elevate the smartphone selfie entirely. The phone is equipped with many other features that make it a powerful, efficient tool encased in a sleek, attractive design. We keep our customers’ needs and desires at the top when putting together a new phone and this is why we are certain the Pakistani youth will love OPPO F7.”
The F7 is the first Oppo phone to sport a notch in India. It has a 6.23-inch display with a resolution of 1080x2280 pixels which delivers good colours. The Oppo F7 is powered by a Helio P60 octa-core processor that is clocked at 2GHz. App performance is quite good. It has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The F7 is a dual SIM device with two Nano SIM slots. It also has a dedicated card slot which can accept 256GB microSD cards. The smartphone has a 16-megapixel camera at the back just above the fingerprint scanner and a 25-megapixel selfie camera. Oppo ships the phone with Android 8.1 Oreo with ColorOS 5 on top. It houses a non-removable 3400mAh battery.
Apple’s iPhone X blazed a trail for smartphones with the notched display. What was once a unique design feature is not so unique anymore. Within months of the iPhone X, Android smartphones with notched display have arrived in India — the Vivo V9 and the Oppo F7 are the first. Both sport a smaller notch than the iPhone X and have larger screens to boot. Here are reviews and comparisons of the two to find out which one best suits your needs.
Pros:Premium finish, notch style display, excellent hardware and performance, great battery life, fantastic front camera, good quality rear camera, rich feature set with AI, fast face unlock
Cons:Rear camera bokeh effect won’t work with objects, no 4k video recording, no front flash, blocky design, incoming notification icons are obstructed by notch
The F7 has a 6.23-inch, 19:9 aspect notched screen. It’s an impressive display with wide viewing angles and rich colours. Similar to the Vivo V9, it has slim bezels (top and sides) and a chin. On closer inspection, you can make out that the bezels on the Vivo V9 are slimmer by a tiny fraction. Unlike Vivo, the Oppo F7 gives you the option to adjust the screen temperature. The F7 also lets you control which apps run in 18:9 aspect ratio, in case the notch is blocking the interface. However, the Oppo also lacks optimization for incoming notification icons due to the notch.
We feel the F7 looks premium thanks to the glossy finish back panel. Like many glossy backs, it is prone to fingerprints and smudges but it looks like a glass back. With its rectangular and blocky design, the phone feels chunkier than the Vivo V9 even though the difference in size is negligible on paper.
In terms of chipset, a Mediatek Helio P60 powers the F7 and proves to be a fantastic performer. Combined with 4GB RAM, the P60 keeps everything running smoothly. At one point, we had over 30 apps running in the background while playing 3D games without any hitch. Battery life is also fantastic — a single charge easily lasts a full day with around 20% battery to spare.
In the camera department, the F7 has a 16MP f1.8 rear camera. The lack of a dual camera at this price is a potential turn-off. That being said, the camera offers up some crisp photos. In low light, the photo quality takes a beating thanks to noise and loss of detail. There’s a softwaredriven portrait mode which works well only if it detects a human. With images of objects, the bokeh effect does not work — Oppo needs to look into this. We like the new Super Vivid mode in the camera that boosts overall colour saturation (you also get a live preview). We found it puzzling that video recording was capped at 1080p — everyone expects 4k video recording at this price.
On the front it has a 25MP camera — while the number of megapixels don’t really matter, they do pique the interest of selfie lovers. The F7’s front camera delivers fantastic selfies — sharp detail and rich colours. Oppo has improved the AI beautification compared to the Oppo F5 — the AI now applies beautification according to your gender. For men, it improves the jawline and removes marks while for women it enhances eyes, lips and removes marks. The front camera is used for the face unlock on the Oppo F7 — it’s the first phone that comes close to speed of face unlock on the OnePlus 5T. Face unlock works instantly (even in low light) and you can set the screen to wake up when raised — again, similar to the OnePlus 5T.
On the software side, the F7 is Oppo’s first device with Color OS 5.0 based on Android 8.1. It comes with a useful full screen multitasking feature — in landscape mode, you can swipe inwards to get quick access to apps or function near the notch and you can open them in a floating window. The smart assistant (a panel on the home screen) shows you a list of quick functions, weather, steps, favorite contacts and upcoming calendar events. Other useful features include a game mode, iPhone X style gestures, clone apps, split screen function and screen recording.
Pros: Sleek design, notch style display, good day to day performance, great front camera results, dual rear camera with AI, 4k video recording, feature-rich interface, Motorbike mode
Cons: Plastic back picks up scratches quickly, average battery life, incoming notification icons are obstructed by notch, display has a warm tone that cannot be changed
The V9 has a 6.3-inch display with 19:9 aspect ratio — it is most definitely an impressive screen with sleek bezels (top and sides) and a small chin. Compared to other smartphone screens, the V9’s display has a warmer tone — a slight red tint is visible when compared with other phones. Vivo offers optimisations for third party apps to use the notch too — you can select which apps run full screen, in 16:9 or 18:9 aspect ratio.
One issue is that due to the notch, you do not see icons for unread incoming notifications on top. It seems that the notch is actually increasing fragmentation in Android rather than becoming a coveted feature. Apart from the display, the first thing you notice about the V9 is that it is surprisingly lightweight — just 150 grams, and this is largely due to the plastic back. It doesn’t really stand out because it has the same design language as the Vivo V7/V7+: a matte finish rear panel and faux antenna lines on the top and bottom. We do like that the sleek design and curved back makes it comfortable to hold. The downside is that the plastic is prone to wear and tear — we saw scratch marks within a few days.
No complaints when it comes to performance and gaming. The Snapdragon 626 with 4GB RAM keeps everything running smoothly. At times (with over 20 apps running in background) we noticed some sluggishness with 3D games or while scrolling through a Facebook feed. Battery life is average at best. It can last from 9 am to 6 pm, but you will have to charge it twice a day.
V9 features a 24MP front camera with AI beautification and AR stickers. The camera takes fantastic photos with crisp details and good colours. For beautification, you can choose the beauty level manually or let the AI do it’s job. We think the AI beautification did a pretty good job. The portrait mode also does a good job with edge detection as long as there is enough light. You also get a group selfie mode and a professional mode for the front camera. Vivo also uses the front camera for Face unlock on the V9 and it works well, although it does not have the raise to wake screen and unlock feature as the Oppo F7.
Around the back is a 16MP + 5MP dual camera setup with an AI powered bokeh mode. This gives the V9 an advantage over the Oppo F7 in delivering a superior bokeh effect. Photos taken from the V9 capture good details, natural colour and the edge detection is great. However, in low light, the camera suffers from visible noise in most photos. Vivo also offers the option of adjusting focus in an image after its taken — always a useful feature. Another advantage of the V9’s rear camera is that it is capable of recording 4k videos at 30 fps in good quality.
V9 is also one of the first devices from Vivo to come with FunTouch OS 4.0 based on the latest Android 8.1. There are a number of handy features in the user interface such as game mode (disables notifications and rejects incoming calls), iPhone X style gestures for control and navigation, Motorbike mode, and a one-handed mode.
The notch on top of both these phones is smaller than the one on the Apple iPhone X. The notch is here to stay and we can expect this trend to continue on almost all new Android phones this year. Here, the notch houses the earpiece, front camera, notification LED and the usual sensors (ambient light & proximity). In the interests of keeping the notch small, neither of them offer a front LED flash
Thanks to the 19:9 aspect ratio screens, both phones are about the same size as a phone with a 5.5-inch 16:9 screen or a phone with a 6-inch 18:9 screen. From the specifications and feature set, it’s clear that both Vivo V9 and Oppo F7 are very similar. If you keep them side by side with the display off, it is difficult to tell them apart. The front cameras on both perform the same and you can’t go wrong with either of them in this department. However, when it comes to performance, the Oppo has the advantage because of the stronger Helio P60 processor and better optimised user interface. Oppo also has the advantage with a more premium appearance, faster face unlock and better battery life. Where the Vivo wins is in the rear camera department. The Vivo dual camera captures a better bokeh effect and is capable of 4k video recording. If the camera is your main priority, the Vivo V9 is the one to get. If you need an all-round performer, the Oppo F7 is better.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is well on its path to double its revenues to $50 billion by 2030, but in 2023 India’s largest software services firm foresees an impact of a combination of the interest rate tightening by the US Federal Reserve and a volatile geopolitical scenario, said its CEO &MD Rajesh Gopinathan.

The government said staff can’t take on work that’s against the interests of their employers in addition to their jobs, clarifying the law as a debate rages over moonlighting in India’s tech industry.

6.3-inch Full HD+ LCD display | MediaTek Helio P60 processor | 6GB RAM | 64GB storage | 16MP + 2MP rear camera | 25MP front camera | 7.9 mm thickness | ColorOS 5.2 over Android 8.1 Oreo | 169 g | 3,500mAh battery | 4G VoLTE
Oppo F9 Pro has almost done away with the notch above the display. Well, almost. But there has been a slight change in terms of its implementation as compared to Oppo F7. It sports a notch with waterdrop design on the front which is much smaller than the notch on its predecessor.
Stressing more on the design of Oppo F9 Pro, its gradient spraying goes all through the middle frame, resulting in stunning looks. Oppo F9 Pro comes in multiple colour options like Sunrise Red, Twilight Blue and Starry Purple. It measures 7.9 mm in thickness and weighs 169 g.
Oppo F9 Pro sports a notch with waterdrop design on the front, making room for some extra real estate to consume more content around it. But it still ends up hiding content while using certain apps like WhatsApp. You can navigate to Settings > App Display in Full-Screen > Notch Area Display Control and optimise apps for full-screen display.
Oppo F9 Pro has a 6.3-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD panel on the front, which looks attractive. The screen is fairly bright and has punchy colours in addition to accurate viewing angles. Oppo F9 Pro offers 90.8 per cent screen-to-body ratio. It retains a 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom, unlike Oppo Find X.
Unlike Oppo F7, the F9 Pro features 16MP + 2MP dual rear cameras. The camera performance is fairly good and at par with most of the mid-range smartphones at this price, though not the best in this segment. Pictures come out decent even in low light conditions, which is great. It has a good dynamic range. It also does a great job when it comes to taking portrait shots.
Pictures come out decent even in low light conditions, which is great. It has a good dynamic range. Oppo F9 Pro houses a 25MP front-facing camera. It can capture some really great selfies once you turn off the AI beautification feature.
Oppo F9 Pro packs 6GB of RAM under the hood, which is enough for the kind of multitasking performance normally expected from a phone at this price. Multitasking was fine for me and I could easily switch between apps without running into any kind of unexpected app crashes or performance slowdown.
Audio output was fairly loud I would say. Media consumption is barely an issue here. I mostly stream movies and TV series on Netflix and Amazon Prime and I enjoyed every bit of it during my usage.
Oppo F9 Pro runs ColorOS 5.2 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box. It comes with a few apps that are pre-installed, but you can always uninstall them. It offers 64GB internal storage, which is further expandable up to 256GB using a microSD card.
Although it misses onto an app drawer, you get an option to search for installed apps, contacts, messages and app recommendation through a search box. All you have to do is swipe down anywhere on the screen and the search box will pop up.
Oppo F9 Pro packs a 3,500mAh battery under the hood, which easily lasts one day. In fact, it used to have some juice left at the end of the day during my usage, which is impressive. The handset supports VOOC Flash Charge, which is the company’s proprietary fast charging technology.
It also packs a VOOC Flash Charge-compatible adapter in the box that supports 5V/4A output. It was able to charge the handset from 10 per cent to 60 per cent in less than 30 minutes. But do remember that it works only with the adapter and cable that you get inside the box.
On the downside, Oppo F9 Pro is a fingerprint magnet, which is disappointing in spite of its attractive design. It offers a microUSB port at the bottom, but not the newer Type-C port. Given the screen size, the handset is really difficult to operate using one hand.
Oppo F9 Pro’s camera could have done a better job at white balancing, exposure calibration and colour saturation. It also misses out on OIS and EIS, which is why I feel it is not ideal for serious video recording.
I have never liked Oppo’s selfie beautification technique, to be honest. With the feature turned on, Selfies come out unnaturally flat and weird to look at, which is why I prefer to turn it off. If you need a free layer or two of makeup on your face, feel free to turn it on.
I wasn’t surprised that its gaming performance was not so great in high-end games. I was forced to play PUBG at lowest graphics to achieve a balanced frame rate, which isn’t good enough for a phone in this price range. Helio P60 is a midrange chip at best and better suited for phones under Rs 20,000.
I have not been a fan of Oppo’s ColorOS either. Everything looks so cluttered and confusing. And again, there is no app drawer. But most of all, organising installed apps is a real headache. You have to manually long-press app icons and drag them, which is inconvenient.
I had only one minor issue with the fingerprint scanner. You have to be extra careful while placing your finger on the fingerprint reader. Similarly, face unlock feature doesn’t always work in dark conditions.
Overall, Oppo F9 Pro is a decent option for its price. But given the fact that Xiaomi just announced its Poco F1 smartphone with Snapdragon 845 processor starting at Rs 20,999, it will be a little bit difficult for me to recommend the Oppo F9 Pro wholeheartedly as far as the value-for-money is concerned. You also have the Vivo V11 Pro with similar design, better camera and more powerful Snapdragon 660 for just a couple of thousands extra.
