Thin-Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Displays use thin-film transistors to control the voltage applied to the liquid crystal layer at a sub-pixel level. And the light would not be able to pass through the front polarizer anymore without changing its polarization. In this way, certain pixels will appear in different colors.

Normally black LCDs have higher contrast and wider viewing angles without grayscale inversion phenomenon compared to their normally white relatives. And whether TFT LCDs are normally black or white depends on their LC switching mode:

As previously mentioned, TN mode functions with the polarization rotation effect. Under traditional TN/VA display mode, the liquid crystal molecules are vertically arranged, with a relatively narrow visual angle. When an external force is exerted on the screen, the liquid crystal molecular structure will sink in a herringbone pattern to slowly recover – a pattern called vertical alignment. (Yicai Global) Aug. 11 -- Electronic display giant BOE Technology Group Co. [SHE:000725] has signed an agreement with the municipal government of Wuhan, in China"s central Hubei province, to invest CNY46 billion (USD6.9 billion) to build a factory for 65-inch LCD TFT-LCD display modules and related projects in the city, BOE said in a press briefing on Aug. 10.

Beijing-based BOE plans to start construction in the fourth quarter of this year and finish within two years. The facility will produce 120,000 displays per month.

BOE also plans to build a CNY10 billion health industry park with a digital medical center, a health demonstration community and a medical transformation and intelligence center.

Under the guidance of the company"s large screen display strategic planning, Wuhan BOE has carried out this capacity expansion project through full evaluation and demonstration of process technology, plant and equipment specifications. Wuhan BOE reserved plant space of 25000 substrates per month at the initial stage of its construction. By expanding production capacity, the existing plant space can be fully utilized and the space can be avoided to be idle. At the same time, the project not only buys new equipment, but also fully considers the capacity potential of existing equipment, and formulates a series of plans to maximize equipment production capacity to maximize the operational efficiency of existing equipment.
