Unfortunately, in most cases, you cannot fix a broken TV screen. TV manufacturers do not sell screen replacements, and there is no secondary market for used screens. That’s because the screen is the most expensive part of the TV, by far. Replacing it would cost more than buying a new TV!

In many cases, your local electronics or TV repair shop won’t even consider working on your broken TV screen. They know that it’s just not worth their time.

“Liquid Crystal display screens are made by putting two thin sheets of glass together. On one of the sheets transistor “cells” formed by first depositing a layer of indium tin oxide (ITO), an unusual metal alloy that you can actually see through. That’s how you can get electrical signals to the middle of a screen.

Then you deposit a layer of silicon, followed by a process that builds millions of precisely shaped transistor parts. This patterning step is repeated to build up tiny little cells, one for each dot (known as a pixel) on the screen. Each step has to be precisely aligned to the previous one within a few microns. Remember, the average human hair is 40 microns in diameter.”

If your TV screen has an imperfection, discoloration, lines, streaks, spots, etc., then there is a good chance that your warranty will cover it (if it’s within the allotted time period). Most TV warranties are in place for the first year, and they cover these types of manufacturer defects.

And the even better news here is thatthe majority of issues you’re likely to encounter with your TV will happen within the first year (when you’re covered by the manufacturer).

You can always try selling it. Your broken TV isn’t worth much, but to the right person, it’s worth something. Someone who knows what they are doing will take your TV apart, and sell off each individual piece.

Technically, you could do this yourself, but it’s time consuming and you risk damaging the parts. I wouldn’t bother. Instead, try listing the whole TV for sale. Getting something for a broken TV it is better than nothing.

Local electronics stores typically recycle products that they sell. A great example of this is Best Buy. They have a nationwide recycling program. But keep in mind, they will charge you a small fee!

Buy a TV screen protector. You can buy a screen that covers your TV and protects it against damage, and many are waterproof! These provide great added protection from possible bumps and contact with liquids from pets and children.

Mount your TV on the wall.This way your television is up off the ground, and out of reach. It won’t stop your kids from throwing a toy at it, but at least they can’t bump into it, or accidentally knock something, or someone into it.

Don’t allow video games. This might sound harsh (especially for the kids), but I’ve heard too many stories of Nintendo Wii controllers being accidentally thrown at the TV. If you don’t hook up a video game console to your TV, this can’t happen.

Most TV repair shops won’t even bother trying to fix a broken screen. In the end, between a screen replacement and the repair costs, you’d spend the same amount for a brand new TV!

If your TV is cracked or damage because of something you did, your warranty is unlikely to cover it. In that case, consider selling your broken TV or disposing of it.

Well I have the Samsung Galaxy S4 and recently I took it out of it"s case to clean the case and the screen but upon taking it out of the case I dropped it on the floor and the screen completely cracked right down the middle. Everything still worked just with a cracked screen. I ordered a replacement which came in today and I tried replacing it myself using some video tutorial I found from someone on YouTube but I completely messed up the phone to the point where the LCD stopped working.

Now the phone turns on and you can hear the intro samsung music playing but there is nothing on the screen itself. I took it to a repair shop earlier today and they told me I damaged the LCD so it has to be replaced completely. I was just thinking now that they have my phone and are fixing it for Monday I forgot to back everything up. I have all my pictures on there and my music and text messages too. Will I lose all my things when they replace the LCD? Or how does that work? I wasn"t using a memory card everything is directly on the phone.

When a laptop screen breaks, you’ll see various visual defects depending on precisely what broke. You may notice stuck, or incorrectly colored pixels, lines of color, bleeding colors, chunks of the screen appear black, or the screen may not turn on at all.

When a laptop screen is physically broken (such as a cracked screen), it’s usually due to physical damage. You may have dropped the laptop or dropped something on it. A laptop screen can even break if there is something as small as a bit of sand between it and the keyboard.

To fix your broken laptop screen, you’ll have to try each of these fixes. If the screen starts working, or you see enough improvement to begin using the laptop again, you can stop. If it stops working again in the future, return to the list and try the rest of the fixes.

Try to unstick your stuck pixels. If you’re dealing with one or more stuck pixels, you can use an app to try and unstick them. These apps typically cycle between colors rapidly or generate digital snow to force a dead or stuck pixel to start working again.

Try to fix your burn-in. If it looks more like you have ghosts of old images stuck on your screen, then you can try a white screen saver or a few other potential fixes to remove the burn-in.

Check your screen and backlight connections. If you have experience with disassembling laptops, you can remove the bezel around your screen, hinge covers, or other case components to reveal the screen and backlight wires and connectors. Make sure everything is fully seated and the cables aren’t crimped or broken.

Replace the screen. If nothing else works, then your screen probably has to be replaced. Screens with large black or colored bars, black holes, or colors that seem to run are typically beyond repair. If it"s a cracked screen, that’s also a clue you’ll have to replace it.

Make use of your broken laptop by salvaging the hard drive as an external hard drive and selling any other parts that still work. If the display still works, use it as a standalone monitor. If you decide to sell your laptop, perform a factory reset to wipe your personal files.

Getting your screen professionally repaired will likely cost $200 or more. You may be able to find a screen and replace it yourself for less than $100. Before you spend money on repairs, consider upgrading to a new laptop.

Check and replace the power supply if necessary. Detach any bootable media drives, docking stations, and newly installed components that could be interfering with startup. You may need to clear the motherboard CMOS by reseating the CMOS battery.

I recently changed the screen on my iPhone with a 3rd party LCD screen as my old factory screen was severely cracked and displayed green all over.
