A video wall (also known as display wall) is a large visualization surface consisting of multiple displays. Originally, they consisted of multiple televisions or monitors that were put closely together. The objective was to make it seem as one large display surface. The problem however was the large frame (or bezel) that surrounded the useful display surface of each television. This completely tore down the effect of a single canvas and ruined the visual performance. Therefore, new technologies were introduced to minimize the ‘dead pixel space’ between the different displays. Today’s display wall solutions are generally using tiled LCD panels, rear-projection cubes, or direct LED tiles.
These display walls are available in a wide range of sizes, typically with a screen diameter between 46” and 80”. The choice of the screen size depends on the typical content and the viewing distance. If watched from up close, the pixel density should be high enough to not see the individual pixels. The resolution is subject to the wall size. For example, a 4K video wall requires 4 Full HD screens in a 2 x 2 setup.
Need a calibration mechanism to ensure that all individual tiles have the same brightness and color settings. Barco’s automatic calibration technology does this in real-time, both calibrating single displays and entire walls
An LCD video wall consists of multiple specifically designed LCD displays. Contrary to the panels used in television sets, these LCD displays have a very narrow bezel. This minimizes the gap between the panels, making it look like one big canvas. Over the years, this gap has gradually decreased. Today, Barco UniSee has the smallest gap in the industry.
LCD video walls are designed for long term and intensive use, often playing in a 24/7 mode — which means they are rarely switched off. Specific measures to prevent burn-in effects are applied to allow them to play for many years, in optimal conditions.
The traditional benefits of LCD video wall solutions include the high brightness, good image quality, and relatively low cost. Also the limited real estate space needed is a plus. The disadvantages are the risk for burn-in and the lower lifetime. Recent models however have successfully reduced these drawbacks.
Typical markets for LCD display walls include meeting and crisis rooms, lobbies, and experience centers. You can also find them in the control rooms of traffic and security centers.
Direct-view LED technology is used to create the most impressive video walls. They are very bright and are often not only used to inform or to collaborate, but also to wow audiences. For example in retail & advertisement settings, during spectacles or live performances, LED video walls are used. Due to recent price-drops for LED video walls, they have become in reach of most corporations, to use in control rooms or corporate lobbies. The LED display tiles consist of many individual color LEDs. The pixel pitch can be quite large when they are watched from afar (for live performances for example), or very small (for control rooms or lobbies.
Using projection instead of LCD or direct-view LED technology, rear-projection video walls target different applications. They are mainly used in control rooms that operate in a 24/7 mode. Utilities providers, for example, generally rely on rear-projection technology to monitor their network.
A rear-projection video wall consists of multiple cubes, which feature a projector and a screen. The projectors are positioned upwards. A mirror under a 45° angle then reflects the image and casts it onto the projection screen. In this way, the required depth is cut dramatically. For example, Barco’s OverView ODLF series only requires a depth of 60 cm/23.6”. This advanced video wall can also be serviced from the front, so there is no need for a rear maintenance area.
The cost is a main contributor to the selection of your video wall solution. Many factors need to be taken into account when calculating the cost of your video wall. Here are the main ones:
Technology: There are 3 main video wall technologies (described above), all with their specific benefits AND price tag. Historically, ultra narrow bezel LCD is the most economic option, followed by rear-projection cubes and direct-view LED displays. Price erosion on narrow pixel pitch LED video walls in recent years has brought this technology within reach of all corporations, so that new markets (including control rooms, corporate lobbies, television studios, etc.) can also benefit from LED.
Size: The cool thing about video walls is that they are modular, so they really take the size and aspect ratio you want. But it should be no surprise that large video walls cost more than small ones. Not only the price of the panels raises the costs: large video walls also need more driving controllers and processing power to handle the high resolution. This is a significant extra cost that should not be overlooked!
Support: The more panels, the heavier the video wall system becomes. This poses additional requirements on the supporting infrastructure. The heaviest load for rear-projection walls is on the floor, which is only rarely an issue. For LED walls and LCD video walls, on the other hand, it is the supporting wall that catches the full load. It may need some additional support to handle the pressure.
Total cost of ownership (TCO): The initial investment is of course the most visible cost, but don"t forget to calculate the operating costs as well. This includes the cost for electricity and consumables (like cooling fans and color wheels). Barco"s video wall displays are built to be as cost-effective as possible, with as few moving parts (that are susceptible to wear) as possible.
Service and repair costs:Even high-quality video walls can have unlikely issues. This can be minor or severe, but there is always a cost. For the financial department, cost predictability is very important. That is why Barco offers a number of comprehensive service packages, ensuring minimal downtime at a fixed cost.
A video wall can help improve employee productivity and raise brand visibility. They are commonly used to raise situational awareness, increase response times, and for disaster management, collaboration efforts, and quick decision making.
A video wall system is a high-resolution display wall, using several different monitors that are connected to form one large screen. These monitors are contiguously overlapped to form one large image for high visibility.
Video walls are found in stadiums, control rooms, and large public venues. The largest high-definition video wall in the world was achieved in August 2017 at the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo. It measures 7,639 feet, 5 inches. Video walls can vary in size and number of screens.
They are also commonly used by Fortune 500 companies. As they become more affordable and accessible, more and more companies are using them.Components of a Video Wall System
A video wall system is more than just the visual display that you see on the wall. It is made up of the following main three components:Video wall displays: This involves a tiled arrangement of screens or monitors that are laid contiguously to form a single large high-definition display surface. Technologies for this display include LED, LCD, blended projection, and projection cubes. Each of these can differ in resolution, brightness, cost, and reliability.
Processors:The video wall processor, or controller, is what works to make the content accessible and visible on the intended interface. The controller will gather all of the necessary input and content from the sources you wish to capture, send it to the displays and allow you to scale, adjust, and arrange it as desired.
Software:The software is the interface, or “dashboard,” that allows you to control the entire video wall system. The software programs can contain a variety of tools, allowing the user to manipulate the display, content, and appearance as necessary. Video wall software can come with a high level of customization.BenefitsA video wall display has a variety of benefits, including being more cost effective than a single large screen for a bigger-than-average display area. These are other benefits:Highly visible communication tool: Public spaces, corporate workspaces, and control rooms often have a lot of information and data that need to be disseminated to employees, customers, or audiences. Video wall displays can offer a high-impact and very visible visual method of imparting this information.
Ability to streamline content: A video wall system can combine and integrate information from a variety of sources in different formats, merging it into a single visual display.
Increased versatility and flexibility: Video walls can display content from multiple sources at once and have the ability to process content from a variety of display sources and applications. Video walls can also be reconfigured and upgraded easily to change its look and function.
Easy to control:Video wall systems are easy to configure and use with the controller and software. While they are high-tech, they are not necessarily complex or hard to use.Costs of Video Wall Displays
Video walls are going to vary greatly in cost based on their size and type. A video wall system can cost between $50,000 and $350,000 based on the project.
Typically, an LED wall panel will cost between $1,000 and $3,000 per panel with an average size of 500 x 500 mm. Processors and software costs can range too based on how advanced a system is desired.
Setting up a video wall can be as simple or complex as you make it. Basically, it only requires deciding how many monitors or screens you want, the size of your display, buying the video wall components, and installing them.
First, you’ll need to decide how you want your video wall to look — how big it will be, where it will go, and what you want it to do. From there, you’ll find a system that works for your space, installing as many screens as desired, chaining them together, and integrating them with a controller.
The cost of a video wall is highly variable, depending on the size and type you choose. They can range from a few thousand dollars to well over $400,000.
A video wall is multiple screens, often daisy chained together to create a seamless and integrated display. This is more cost-effective than a single oversized screen and gives the user more flexibility.
When taking on a large project such as a video wall, the question that’s always on the tip of everyone’s tongue (and rightfully so), is “What will a video wall cost me?” Futuristic, high-tech, creative solutions are great, but can often come with a decent price point. There are a ton of factors that go into the cost of a video wall, making it impossible to give an across the board estimate. If you came here wanting your custom video wall priced out, shoot us an emailand we’ll respond ASAP. While we can’t give a simple universal answer, we can give you a starting price point and some great guidelines on what you need to know to figure out what your wall would cost.
While there are many options and factors for a video wall, a decent starting price for a 2×2 video wall made up of 46” LCD monitors is about $18,000. The hardware that goes into a video wall is much more advanced than the random consumer grade TV’s you’d pick up at Best Buy. The displays that you get with a professional grade video wall are designed specifically for a video wall setting. Keep in mind that the most cost effective LCD wall would have larger bezels, less processing, and less built-in functionality. Where as a nicer brand that has almost zero bezel, great processing, and plenty of flexibility might run around $22,000. Depending on the size and application LCD and LED can be priced pretty competitively against each other with each offering it’s own unique advantages. For this size it would be just as cost effective to purchase a large TV unless you need a unique layout.
When trying to figure out the cost of your new video wall, you should first put some context behind what you’ll be using it for. Will it be client facing or internal? What departments can/will use it? Lastly, what content will it be showing?
Always remember that content is king. Before you can decide what the best solution is, you need to know what you’re trying to display. Will corporate be using it to display internal announcements? Will you be using it in a lobby to display branded content/videos? Will it be paired along with an audio system to show movies at the hotel pool?
This is a much more practical detail to think through, but still an important one. For starters, you need somewhere to put your video wall. Having a high-tech display is awesome and all, but having to shove it in a corner no one ever walks by won’t do you any good. Finding the space for a video wall might be a challenge depending on your business and the existing fixtures you already have. It might be worth considering replacing some old monitors or some other wall mounted pieces if you want that sweet sweet look of a seamless LED experience.
While the size of the room and size of the wall will impact what you can do in the space, also take note that video wall panels can be uniquely arranged to fit in a specific space. When someone says “video wall”, you might think that it needs to be a rectangle that takes up an entire wall. Break free from that mind set. We can arrange panels in a more unconventional way while still being just as appealing. You can do a taller, long, narrow. completely square, or even cover the whole wall from floor to ceiling in video panels. We can also create facades to frame the video wall into whatever shape you want. Just keep in mind that depending on what you choose, you may need custom content created.
The viewers distance from the screen will impact the pixel pitch you’ll need for your video wall. The general rule of thumb is that your pixel pitch needs to be 3:1. For example, if the pixel pitch on your wall is 4mm, the viewer needs to be at least 12 ft away. The smaller the pixel pitch means that the panel has more pixels tighter together, and the closer the viewer can be to the screen without seeing individual pixels. Where as the larger the pixel pitch, the fewer and farther away the pixels are from each other, and the viewer needs to be farther from the screen to see the image clearly.
Last little note: depending on how your space was built, you may need to reinforce the wall to be able to hold the weight of the video wall panels. A lot of times this isn’t an issue, but just in case… It’s worth mentioning that a common misconception is that a video wall has to go on the wall. But you actually don’t have to settle for an inconvenient wall placement. We can make custom sleek stands so you can have your wall be where it actually works best for you.
LCD walls are made up of multiple displays that are programmed to show certain sections of the content. With an LCD wall you can see thin lines between each of the screens. Some LCD screens have a larger bevel than others and this impacts the cost.
In the past, LCD has tended to be cheaper than an LED wall, but now LED prices are coming down. The right solution for you will come down to your budget, the application, and personal preference. Check out our page on video walls to learn more about the differences betweenLED and LCD walls. If you have any questions about the best option for your needs, just shoot us an email.
Again, this is another practical piece, but something that sometimes gets overlooked by clients who are just researching solutions. The cost of a video wall doesn’t just stop at the cost of the screens/panels.
For example, video walls can be setup with interactive attachments that can turn the wall into a big touch screen. Or if your wall is for an exhibit in a museum or at a theme park, you’ll likely need an audio system installed as well so that guests can hear what they’re seeing.
And your team will need a system to control the wall. Unlike your TV at home, there isn’t a little button or small pre programmed remote that comes built in. Not only do you need to have the right internal processes in place to control the system, such as who updates the content on it and when, but you need to have the right hardware solution to do it with. We use Crestron Touch panels, or iPads to display a custom built touch panel design where you can control all of your video walls, displays, and audio systems, quickly and easily. Our team designs and codes it all uniquely for you and your brand.
Regular maintenance on a large purchase such as a video wall is always a good idea. Depending on the type of video wall and where it’s installed, you may need more frequent maintenance. Panels will need to be replaced, colors may need adjusted, and occasionally a few pixels may need swapped out. Regular maintenance will help avoid these issues turning into emergency on-site visits, or a powered down nonfunctional system while you wait for hardware to be delivered.
With every install we do we also provide a Helpdesk PC. If you experience an issue at any time of the day our team is able to remote in, check out the system, and figure out a quick fix so that you, your team, and your customers don’t have to suffer. Did we mention that it’s free? You read that right. Our clients get free support for the life of their system. Not too shabby.
If you need some inspiration for your install, check out our projects page to see some video walls that we’ve installed across the U.S. Or, if you have a sweet idea, more questions, or just an insatiable want for a video wall but aren’t sure if you have the budget, justshoot us an email. Video walls can be simple or complex depending on what you want to use them for. This article will define what a basic video wall is, the components you need to buy and tips for designing appropriate content.
In short, a video wall is a collection of screens that are combined/tiled together to create one large display. Typical display technologies used include LCD, direct LED tiles, rear-projection and laser displays. The purpose for using video walls varies depending on the industry. Industries where video walls can be used include; corporates, hospitals, retailers, government offices, churches, schools, casinos and hotel receptions.
Because of their size and clarity, video walls have a WOW factor that makes them very effective for marketing messages and branding. It’s important to note that the content displayed is key in reaching messaging goals for the video wall. And in order to optimize the content displayed, content management software is needed.
That’s what this article is about i.e. video walls with content management software. Surprisingly, only 13% of the video wall systems installed have content management software. Such projects run the risk of showing poor content, which makes the video wall a very expensive decoration.
A video wall is a collection of displays aligned so content can be displayed over the displays continuously. Video walls works by using a specific type of hardware setup to display content without interruption. This also requires software to help plan and configure the content.
Because of their large size, video displays are able to command attention. They are hard to ignore by customers, employees, or visitors, which makes them an ideal tool for an organization’s branding or informational campaigns.
Video walls can help perform tasks an employee normally would. It can free up employee time so they can work on more pressing tasks. This is done by displaying important information that staff would typically have to answer: For instance:Large malls can display maps on video display
A video wall that is powered by content management software is designed to display different types of content simultaneously. For instance, a campus can use a video wall to display maps, school events, and useful information like weather, news and social media.
Traditionally, video walls, especially LED ones, have been used in retail for advertising and at events. Costs were high and content management wasn’t as evolved. Today, video walls are cheaper and more affordable for small and medium businesses. They are being installed in corporate offices, schools, government offices, hospitals, hotels, casinos and houses of worship. They are so diverse and thus are used across a large range of industries.
LED video walls offer a lot of flexibility in design. For instance, they can be curved to fit around corners and columns. Additionally they can be shaped in architectural ways outside of the traditional rectangle or square install.
Different content can be displayed at different times of the day e.g. a restaurant video wall can show different breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. The content also auto-updates e.g. when a calendar changes, the events listed on the video wall are updated.
Retail businesses that use digital signage can improve their sales by 32%. Retailers can use a video display system to alert thousands of target customers about discounts and other great deals.
An estimated wait time sign can combat customer dissatisfaction resulting from unpredictable waiting times. Leading service providers have been using this trick to keep clients waiting patiently. Thus, like those leading service providers, any business can use this system to improve their customer satisfaction scores.
42% of consumers are likely to purchase from stores with video displays rather than those without. The video displays give customers more information about the products, help to upsell complementary products and overall improve the ambiance in the store.
While the display is the most visible part of a video wall, it isn’t the only element. Several other video wall system components collaborate to display those attention-grabbing images on display.
Digital display refers to the screens. For instance to form one large display, screens can be tiled together. The screens can be LED or LCD. We recommend using commercial-grade screens with narrow bezels for seamless viewing and best content display.
LED screens have thinner bezels, the widest viewing angles, best picture quality, and more energy-efficient. They are however much more expensive than an LCD screen of the same size.
Without going into too much detail, your software is the command center that lets you upload/create content and deploy it to your video wall. This is where you’ll manage the content displayed and the hardware used.
This is undoubtedly the most essential aspect of a success digital display. It’s what the target viewers see and interact with. This content can be in the form of images, screenshots, videos, infographics, GIFs, memes, and presentations.
Video walls display information. Ideally, this would be to the right target audience at the correct time. Otherwise, this communication and advertisement channel will be less effective.
So how does one make sure that their video wall system plays its role effectively? Below are some video wall content design tips:Use high-quality realistic images/videosLike any visual, high-quality images and videos will easily command anyone’s attention than poor quality visuals. Even so, one should refrain from using heavily filtered pictures or videos.
Keep text short and to the pointAs a rule, any text on a display wall system should be as concise as possible. A single line should contain a maximum of 5 words. Anything above five words will look cluttered and harder to read. Also, texts should be large and colorful enough for anyone to read without straining.
Use the right screen brightnessLighting affects the visibility of the content displayed on the video wall’s digital screen. As an example, target viewers can hardly see content on a dim screen during a bright day. It’s important to adjust the screen’s brightness according to ambient light.
Do not clutter the video wallWhile a single video wall system can display multiple types of content, it isn’t advisable to stuff it. A professionally designed video wall should contain an adequate white space to let readers view or read through the content easily and quickly.
Most savvy business owners first question when they see a video wall boils down to, “How can I use this technology?” The top video wall applications are:BanksImpress and improve your branding with video walls and digital signage for financial institutions.
CorporateMake a great first impression to potential employees and important visitors with a video wall. Corporate digital signage ensures you can adapt and impress.
EducationBoth K-12 & Colleges can benefit from digital signage for education. Video walls at these institutions can showcase to potential students that your school is technologically savvy and ahead of the times.
EntertainmentImprove your advertising with entertainment digital signage. Because of their size, video walls automatically command attention. Use this to showcase upcoming events.
ManufacturingDigital signage for manufacturing offers two avenues of success; to employees and to visitors. Video walls can show project or team status to employees while also making a great addition to the lobby for potential clients or investors.
RestaurantsDigital menu boards for restaurants can be either single displays (popular for menus) or video walls. Video walls are perfect for entertainment and can show music videos, sports games, or television shows.
By far the most difficult aspect of the process is the video wall installation. For those looking for how to make a video wall, we have a great mini-guide below.
Video walls are a set of screens that work together to create one continuous and impressive display. You may want a video wall to relay information, create an immersive display, interact with your audience, or for presentations. They aredifficult to create for those that are unfamiliar with the process. However, following the tips in this guide should make it easier.
You need to create a draft project document that highlights its important points, goals, or objectives. Some points to consider include:The purpose of the video wall, what you plan to display
If you decide on a DIY video wall, you are likely to mess up the measurements. Here’s what you should include:Display size: people only consider the screen size but overlook display size. Measure the bezels and width
The most important digital signage hardware element is the video wall panels. If they are for digital signage, you want high-quality video wall displays like an LG or Samsung video wall. Using Samsung for illustrative purposes, a single display unit costs $2,000 to $6,000.
When choosing a video wall TV, remember that a thin bezel TV for video wall will look the best. They create an illusion of a seamless video wall, especially if you choose a multiple panel set-up, such as a 3×3 video wall. Another thing to consider is that LCDs are better at close-up viewing, and LEDs look better at further distances.
Video wall mounts come in various types; make sure you get the right one for your displays. For instance, the Peerless video wall mount can only accommodate 46’ to 55’ video wall TVs. A simple Peerless 2×2 mounting kit for 46’-55’ screens costs $534.
Digital signage media players allow you to control and show content on digital signage displays. Most media players come bundled with video wall software free of charge.
If you have a simple project such as a 2×2 video wall mount, a simple $299 Xhibit Mykro media player will do. For a bigger set-up like a video wall grid, you need more computing power. A desktop computer that has several display ports will be more suitable as your video wall processor. Alternatively, you can go with video/matrix players or video wall controllers. They are devices that allow streaming of a single video source to multiple screens.
It would help if you had digital signage software or content management software (CMS) to control and display content on your video wall. Although some software is cloud-based, you can choose an onsite solution such as Mvix software.
Video wall signage is not cheap. Create a detailed project draft that lists down all materials before you start. Let others run through the draft to ensure you cover everything, preventing oversight that could prove costly down the road.
You are likely to overlook some design features; why not create a wall schematic? The wall drawing will give you a rough idea of what the video wall will look like.
A grid-style video wall is the most complicated set-up as it requires a lot of configuring and installation.Displays and mounting – match your screens to the right mounting and adjust according to the grid. Bigger set-ups will be bolted to the floor, smaller ones to the wall.
With your digital signage video wall up and running, you need to create customized content for display. Before you do so, you need to develop digital signage content through research, content creation, and distribution. Some innovative digital signage content ideas of:Live social media feeds
Like any other electronic, you should regularly clean your video wall screens to get rid of dust and dirt. Ensure you update the software to keep it running smoothly. Support needs to check the displays to catch any degradation quickly and prevent downtime. Additionally, keep the video wall display off for at least two hours daily.
Are video walls worth the investment? The short answer is yes. When used, this technology can increase an organization’s brand identity and streamline visitor experience. A video wall system can foster good first impressions, support self-service, and free up employees. When video display signage are designed professionally, they tend to deliver the best benefits. Unlike amateurs, professionals will align the system for enhanced visibility, and set up the system appropriately. With an expert’s input, a video wall will not disappoint.
Whether you are looking for two or three continuous screens, or a massive room-sized video wall, we can provide solutions to fit all scenarios and budgets. From advertising to control rooms we can tailor a video wall to your exact requirements.
Pixelution carry a portfolio of high quality screens, mounts and accessories to build commercial and professional grade video wall solutions for use as digital signage or control room and information displays. With many years experience and a wide range of hardware options to choose from we have a video wall solution for everyone.
Wall mounted, Ceiling mounted or free-standing, ultra-narrow bezel screens for a near seamless image or standard public display screens for the tighter budget. We will create your personal video wall configuration, with installation if required. Video walls are a versatile solution for displaying all types of information. Video walls can be used as a single large display or divided into smaller sections with the option to change configurations at the touch of a button. This makes them ideally suited for control room applications where several feeds maybe required on screen at any one time. With the option to fill the wall from a single feed for presentations or other highlight events.
We also carry a range of more specialised video wall screens for high brightness or high resolution solutions. For use in windows or high ambient light areas we have ultra-narrow bezel screens rated at 3,000 nits – approx. six times brighter than standard video wall screens. Although designed to be visible in direct sunlight the extra brightness also ensures the most eye catching imagery in any installation.
If you need more pixels then we can drive each screen in the video wall at its native resolution. A 3×3 video wall will then have a desktop resolution of 5,760 x 3,240 pixels – greater than UHD or 4K. Any size video wall can be driven in this way to give you an ultra high resolution display. This level of detail is an excellent solution for installations which require large amounts of information on screen at one time.
If you don’t need a seamless image, high brightness or resolution, but are looking to fill a wall with screens then we can build standard displays into a video wall array. If you are displaying statistical data, schedules or other text based information then the increased bezel width is not such an issue and the content can be designed around the grid to ensure visibility. This type of solution has its limitations but does still provide a large and impressive display on a reduced budget.
Alternatively we have a range of ultra-large LCD displays which are capable of replacing 2×2 Video Walls with a single seamless screen. These screens are not always lower cost than a video wall but do provide a simple to use and eye-catching display.
Do you want to maintain a 16:9 screen aspect ratio for Landscape video playback?*Please select an option here.Yes! – Landscape 16:9 UHD / HD Video ratioNo – Custom Aspect ratioIf you select a size that is not 16:9 Landscape format you may need to create your content especially to fit the video wall.
If you’re in the market to rent a video wall, you’ve probably run into all sorts of confusing info. Here’s the lowdown on LCD vs. LED video walls so you can make the right choice for your next conference, trade show, or other event.
We’re about to throw a whole lot of info at you. So let’s first take a second to remember why both LED and LCD video walls are a good investment in the first place.
The old adage, “the bigger the better,” is definitely true when it comes to AV. A video wall immediately symbolizes your company is established, and sends a subconscious message that people should take your business seriously. Video walls help you stand out, and compete with all the other businesses who are investing in splashy, eye-catching displays.
Distance – The further your video wall is from viewers, the bigger it needs to be. If you’d like a video wall on the back of your trade show booth, you’re going to need a different option than if you’d like a video wall as an entire backdrop of a general session stage. As one of your first steps, decide on distance.
Content – Do have the resources to produce custom content for your video wall? After you finalize the size of your video wall, your AV provider can tell you the exact dimensions and resolution your content needs to be. From there, a designer or video editor can create custom video wall content — which is the most important part of any great video wall.
Venue Type – An outdoor venue presents a different challenge than an indoor trade show without windows. There’s a great video wall solution for lots of different venues, but be sure your venue and the basic event details are confirmed first.
Price – A video wall system is always going to cost more than monitors, projectors, or other digital signage. Make sure you have enough room in your budget for a video wall — which can start in the ballpark of $10,000 and go upwards from there.
Once reserved for stadiums and shopping malls, LED walls have become much more accessible for corporate events in recent years. An LED wall is made of many smaller LED panels. Each panel has hundreds of tiny light sources called “light emitting diodes” that can change color to create a large, seamless image.
Technicians can add panels until the LED wall is as massive as you need it to be. Random fact: The Suzhou Sky Screen in China is the largest LED video wall in the world, measuring 1,640 feet long — about 4.5 football fields.
Meanwhile, an LCD video wall is a large surface for video or images built from many LCD screens. You’ve interacted with an LCD screen before — they’re on your laptop, TV monitor, and more. However, the LCD video wall screens are designed to run longer and have thinner edges, called bezels.
Technicians use special hardware and tools to stack the LCD screens on top of one another, and calibrate the wall so that an image shows up across every screen. Temporary LCD walls can usually only be about five screens across and five screens high.
Temporary LCD walls can be configured to be in many different sizes and shapes, both large and small, but typically don’t go larger than five screens across and five screens high.
Our most popular LCD walls are about 16’ wide by 10’ tall. Also, when measuring your ceiling height, keep in mind that most walls don’t go all the way down to the floor. So you’ll need to add that into your total height need.
People need to view LED walls from a distance to get the full picture. Think of them like a Lite Brite, or an impressionist painting — you get the full picture when you’re further away. Though made of LED panels, there are no seams.
The image on an LCD wall will be sharper than on LED walls, especially while standing nearby, since it’s made from HD panels. Will have very thin seams between each LCD screen, called bezels.
Since an LCD Wall are basically fancy computer monitors, it’s typically easier to create content. If your content looks great on a standard computer monitor with a 16:9 aspect ratio, it will look good on an LCD wall. Your AV provider will give you dimensions and resolution requirements once you decide on the size you need, and can also help you determine where the seams (or “bezels”) will be so none of your image gets cut off.
Much lower than LCD — but you’ll still need to make sure your venue has enough power capabilities. Your video wall provider can tell you how much power you’ll need.
Imagine an LCD video wall is like a tray of lasagna. Reliable, beautiful, and sturdy — but you can only increase the size of a tray of lasagna so much. Affordable, but it has a limit in size.
Meanwhile, imagine an LED wall like a limitless, footlong sub. It might not be quite as satisfying and vibrant as a steaming tray of lasagna, but you can keep adding to it until it’s as massive as you’d like.

If you"re thinking about video wall technology and reading this article, you already know that this is one of the most effective ways to connect with your customers and make a statement.
You know, intuitively, that big moving images are exciting and immersive. Starting this research, maybe you want a few ideas about how companies are using this impactful format, especially now that the industry has extended to include interactive video walls as well, providing even stickier and more memorable ways to engage with your audience. These experiences are brand, loyalty, and revenue building.
Conventional wisdom and availability of technology in the past meant businesses would use projectors to display large images. That technology required focusing of the lens, blending of edges between two projected images, or sometimes the use case would require two projectors just to put enough light on the wall to create an image. Video walls use a direct view technology like LCD/LED screens, which provide an undeniably crisp and clear picture and increased brightness.
Have you ever walked into an electronic store and stopped the moment you saw a screen showing a magical landscape? The clarity and experience it provided made you pause and pay attention. Interactive video walls offer the same experience, demanding the attention of your customers because of the brightness, the contrast, the movement and richness of color.
Resolution is the number, size and density of all the pixels it takes to compose a clear image. If you can see those individual dots from the targeted viewing position, or if you feel the image is "soft", the resolution of the display hardware is probably too low. With professional video wall design, you can get the best high definition picture possible and even add more displays together to create a wall as clear and as big as you want. There are many opportunities and options to fit your unique needs.
The flexibility to display lots of different types of content in a span across a large or uniquely shaped video wall is enabled by image processing power. This processing can be handled in the screens themselves (to split and span the image across many screens, for instance), or it might be handled by a separate piece of hardware. Making sure your design team understands your source and content needs is important so they can select the right processing capabilities...which often includes a discussion on how to transmit the content from the source player to the video wall location.
Generally, video walls make up many displays and are joined to create an expansive wall with one single image, video, or presentation. While this is the foundation of a video wall, you have the freedom to create a video wall design.
For example, the size and dimension of the wall can be determined by the combination of displays. Video wall design involves creative shapes that fit the presentation or brand. Since a video wall can be customized by using many displays, you have the liberty to develop the best wall for your needs.
In addition to providing design flexibility to match architectural features, commercial-grade video wall hardware provides the long runtime abilities needed by a business to play content during their operational hours every day. Commercial video walls are built from technologies and components specifically designed to run for long times, in adverse conditions.
Do you want customers to pause at the store entrance because your wall demands their attention? Do you want an interactive video wall to provide the help and answers they might have while viewing your products?
Whether the content and messaging needs are passive (e.g. brand-building, national campaign activation, bold offer-based material) or interactive (e.g. virtual fitting room, social media powered), video walls give you the ability to do it BIG.
An interactive video wall can make all the difference for your company. A typical customer feels an urge to buy when the product for sale can be made to feel personalized. A video wall installation accounts for this and positions the content to envision themselves as a user by configuring, browsing options, and holding the item in their (digital) hands.
Whether they have a question about the product, or they want to learn more about you, customers will be more encouraged to take action through an interactive video wall. This is an opportunity to gather valuable data about your customers with a chance of improved conversion.
For example, if you’re selling tires, you’ll deal with customers who need reasons presented, in a compelling way, for upgrading to a premium tire. A video wall design that’s positioned in the waiting room can help you make that sale, explaining the difference between standard and premium tires and how the choice can affect the customer’s pockets, safety, and overall drive.
Installing a video wall makes it easy to change your promotions, menus, and any kind of content you display in the store. Rather than ordering new materials, switching out signage, or dealing with outdated technology that doesn"t suit your needs, you can make the changes instantly on a video wall.
Your brand means everything. It’s your reputation, it makes you recognizable, and it provides opportunities for customer trust and loyalty. Your brand doesn"t just represent you, it actually represents how customers feel about you.
When you decide to pursue video wall installation, it shows a confidence in that brand story and an investment in improving that feeling that customers have. A customer walking through the door and being greeted with your images, POV, product, messages and large representations of them and the community of brand followers is a big message that says, "Our brand thinks these things, and you, are important."
They might not have spent much time thinking about it, but every business is telling a story - in everything they do. You’re telling a story about the customer and their needs, how you empathize with them, and that you have a plan to help. While you can train your employees or market your unique value proposition, it can still be challenging to get the message across.
As customers spend time in your establishment, your interactive video wall can tell your story, providing promotional content, testimonials, and more.
After all, if a customer is already looking for something specific, this is an opportunity to use your resources to sell related products and more options. Once you get a video wall installation, you’ll be able to communicate quickly and efficiently with your customers.
