Hey all, I was trying to apply some double sided tape to the bottom of my screen because it was coming a bit loose, and stupidly used metal tweezers to do so. The display turned off for a split second, but turned back on so I thought I was good.

But then, I’ve noticed that when I turn on the display, horizontal lines sometimes appear. I don’t have a 100% repo rate; I can get rid of it by turning the display off and on again (might take a few times though).

Several reasons can be responsible for horizontal lines on Android phone screens. Thus, below I have listed the major factors that can lead to this issue:

No matter wherever the reason behind the occurrence of Android phone display has horizontal lines, you must use to program as it’s recommended by the experts also.

According to my opinion, most of the glitches regarding vertical and horizontal lines on mobile screens are associated with hardware or software faults. Therefore, I’ve provided approaches for both hardware & software-related issues.

Many smartphone users are looking to know how to fix vertical lines on Android phone. Seeing vertical lines on your phone could be one of the worst situations for a smartphone user. Because it is not a common issue at all.

Plus, there are no straightforward fixes to this issue as well. As a result, most users would usually start to panic. But we are here to help you out. In this post, we will be discussing the reasons and fixes for vertical or horizontal lines on an Android phone.

In this section, we will be discussing what could be the source of this issue. Plus, we will lay out multiple solutions to this problem for our readers. So, let’s go…

Before we start to tweak with the solutions below, we should know why your phone has those annoying lines. Is this an issue related to software? Or is it a hardware issue after all?

In short, most of these types of visible lines on phone screens are related to hardware. Unfortunately, most of the time, the culprit behind this is a broken or faulty display. Plus, it could also be a faulty ribbon (the connector that connects the display to the motherboard).

On the other hand, it could also be a software issue. Sometimes, there could be bugs in the current firmware of your android phone. Also, there could be any applications or settings related to the display are the source of this problem.

Or you could also transfer the screenshot to your PC or another phone that is working properly to check it out. Now, if you find that the screenshot has those lines, then it is a software-related issue.

Conversely, if you don’t find or see those lines on the screenshots, then, unfortunately, it is related to hardware. And chances are, the display panel or the ribbon is the source of the issue. Now that you know why the source of the issue, let’s find out if we really find a solution for this.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a clear-cut answer to this question. If you are lucky then you could find a solution to this. But as this is a serious issue, there is no single method of fixing this.

First, you will have to determine whether the issue is related to hardware or software. Then you will have to try a few fixes to see whether the lines go away or not.

Interestingly, most of the time it seems that these vertical lines are related to issues with the display. In that case, the fix is to take it to a repair center and change the display. Anyway, let’s see what other solutions you could try before taking it to the repair center.

As always, before going to the solutions below, we should urge you to take a backup of your phone’s data. You could take the backup to your PC or online like Google Drive and other cloud platforms. Also, you should make sure that the phone has around 60 percent charge.

The more the better in this case. There are many ways to take a backup of your phone. Simply, you can copy and paste all the data manually to your PC. Or else, you can learn the other methods from the web. We will not elaborate on that in this post.

We admit that it seems the most obvious. You might also think that it will not work. However, many users have reported that after restarting their device, the vertical line issue was fixed automatically.

We think that those issues were software related. So, you can also try to restart your phone to see whether it fixes the issue or not. If not, then you can proceed to the next option.

What is a ‘Force Restart’, you might ask? It is the process of restarting your phone when it is lagging or freezing and doesn’t respond to any touch or press to the buttons.

Rather, we will show you a basic process that should be common for most of the top brands. So, simply press and hold the power button for up to 20 seconds or until the phone restarts itself.

When you see that the phone is restarting, you can let go of the power button. Wait for the phone to reboot and check whether the vertical lines are still there.

In some cases, you might need to press and hold both the Power and Volume up or down buttons at the same time. Keep holding the buttons until the phone turns off.

If you think the vertical lines on your phone are related to software, then you can try rebooting it in ‘Safe Mode’. By rebooting in safe mode, the phone will restart with only default/pre-installed software that came with it.

So, if any third-party apps were the source of the issue, those will not be available while in safe mode. As a result, you will find out whether the issue is related to any of those 3rd party apps.

Now, there are a few methods of entering into safe mode in an Android phone. Depending on the phone model and version of the operating system, it will vary phone by phone. So, we will be sharing 2 methods of rebooting in safe mode in the section below.

Next, repeat the process to turn on the device. However, once the startup screen appears, you have to press and hold the ‘Volume Down’ button for a few seconds or until the phone start into Safe Mode

These are 2 of the most common ways of entering into the Safe Mode in android phone. Remember, you can come out of Safe Mode by simply restarting your phone. Now, check whether the lines have disappeared or not. If not, then you can try the next solution.

If the lines are appearing because of any faults in the electric circuit and battery, then you can try this fix. Many users have reported that charging the battery to 100% actually fixed the issue for them. Now, if that doesn’t do it for you.

You should cycle the battery. To do that, you should wait for the battery to discharge to 0%. And then recharge it to 100%. Or you can also, recharge the battery to 100% and then wait for it to discharge to 0%. This would also work as cycling the battery of your android phone.

In general, if there are any cracks or scratches on the screen of your phone, you should already be aware of that. Because those cracks would be fairly visible. If you find something like cracks on the screen, then you should take it to a repair center as soon as possible.

For your information, the display ribbon is also known as a display strip or display flex cable. So, to see if the problem is with the display ribbon cable, you can lightly press various parts of the screen with your finger.

If you see that the lines are disappearing from the screen with your press, then you are in luck. Also, if you find out that with each press, new lines are appearing on the screen, then you should contact a repair center as soon as possible.

If you are sure that the vertical lines on your phone are because of a software issue, then you should try factory resetting your android phone as a last resort.

Why as a last resort? Because resetting your phone to factory settings will delete everything on your phone. As a result, without any serious need, you should not perform a factory reset.

Now, as you know that there are various types of models and OS versions of Android out there. That is why the method of factory resetting an Android phone would also vary from model to model.

Warning: Performing a Factory Reset on your phone will erase or delete everything from your phone. So, you should take backups of the data on your phone before you perform a factory reset.

If you do any type of damage to your phone following the tutorial here, Android Tipster is not responsible anyway. So, you are doing it at your own risk.

After that, your phone will restart. You will have to set up the phone once again. Then you can restore the data you have taken a backup of. As we have said, the process of factory resetting an android phone will vary depending on the model you are using.

There are many more alternative ways to factory reset android phone. However, these two are the most common. And, for most of the android phones out there, the methods explained above should be almost identical.

Now, if the vertical lines are not appearing on the screen anymore, then you have solved the problem. However, if the issue still persists, you should read the next solutions.

If you have tried and tested all the solutions above and still haven’t been successful, then the issue might not be software related. Unfortunately, it seems that the problem is arising from a faulty display panel. And, we all know the solution to this is to replace the display panel of your phone.

However, if you have a warranty on the phone still, you can send it to the warranty. That way, you will be able to fix it without any fee. Also, you will get original replacement parts in this case. Additionally, if there are any other problems with the phone, they will take care of that too.

Earlier we have suggested you take the phone to warranty if the problem still persists. However, it could be the situation that the warranty of your phone ran out a long time ago. So, what can you do in this instance? Simply put, you can go to a smartphone repair center as a last resort.

If you want to find the source of the issue and fix your android phone with vertical or horizontal lines, you should take it to a reliable repair center as soon as possible. That way, even if you don’t have the warranty, you will be able to fix your phone for a particular amount of fee.

In this post, we have shared 8 possible fixes of vertical lines on the Android phone. Typically, we can guess that most issues regarding lines on the screen of your phone are associated with a hardware fault. On the contrary, some users also reported that the issue could also be software related.

Here, we have provided solutions for both software and hardware related issue. So, we hope this tutorial will help you solve the issue with your android phone without taking it to the repair center.

This is the simple and free cause as all you have to do is take the digitiser (screen) off and re-seat the LCD connection. If this fixes the issue i would highly recommend buying some Anti-Static Kapton tape. This tape is high quality electrical tape with strong adhesive and heat tolerance.

This is the harder and more expensive cause as the LCD has been damaged. As per the name LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) if it is knocked or bumped hard enough it causes the "liquid" to displace itself possibly causing those horizontal lines you now see. However all you will need to do is replace the LCD and you will be good to go.

The Bad- In all reality, due to the color lines on your screen, the digitizer was damaged from the blunt hit to the screen during the impact. e) Next choose the option on the same screen, “Factory Reset”. This will update, and clear your whole phone back to factory settings, just like when it was brand new. Green lines are a fairly common problem with smartphones, and they’ve been seen on almost every brand available. When this problem occurs, you’ll typically see:

There are a lot of potential reasons for a green line appearing on a mobile screen. If the green line is accompanied by many other colors, and especially if you can see damage to the glass, the screen itself is probably cracked. If it’s just a single, thin green line that runs from top to bottom, some of the common causes include:

To fix the green line on your phone’s screen, try each of the methods listed below. If the green line doesn’t go away, your phone probably has a loose or damaged display connector, or it may have suffered fall or water damage. In that case, the best solution is to contact the manufacturer or a qualified Android repair technician.

Restart your phone. Start by turning your phone off, and then turning it back on. Don"t just turn off the screen, make sure to actually turn off the phone and restart it.

This basic fix takes care of a lot of problems because it forces your phone to close everything down and start fresh. If the green line was caused by a temporary glitch in your phone’s software, restarting the phone will fix the problem.

Restart your phone in Safe Mode. Safe Mode is a limited mode that prevents anything from launching on your phone aside from the essentials. This is a good way to see if you have a software problem. If the green line goes away in Safe Mode, then you know you have a problem with an app, a setting, or the operating system.

Remove recent apps. If you’ve installed any apps recently, try uninstalling them. If the green line is caused by an incompatible or malfunctioning app, removing it may fix your problem. If you’ve made any settings changes recently, try undoing those changes as well.

Update your phone. Check to see if your phone has any operating system updates available. If there’s a problem with your current version of Android, the update may fix your problem.

Factory reset your phone. This is the last fix you should attempt before you send your phone in for repairs. It’s a drastic option, because it deletes all of the data on your phone, including photos, videos, and everything else, and installs a fresh version of Android.

If the green line is caused by a software issue, the factory reset will fix the problem. If the green line remains, that means you’re dealing with a hardware failure.

Contact the manufacturer for further assistance. If your phone is still under warranty, the manufacturer may repair or replace the phone for free. If it isn’t, they’ll be able to provide you with information on how to have the phone repaired.

To fix a black screen on an Android phone, ensure the buttons aren"t jammed; restart the phone after a thorough cleaning. If it"s still black, inspect and clean the charging port for debris. Let the charge die, recharge the battery, and then restart the phone. Also, try removing the stylus.

If you"re experiencing voice echoing on an Android, try turning off the device, waiting five minutes, and then turning it back on. If it"s still echoing, turn the volume down and see if this helps. Check settings to see if your device has a built-in echo cancellation feature; enable it if so.

To fix a dead pixel on your Android, try waiting to see if it resolves itself, or use a third-party tool like JScreenFix. If the dead pixels aren"t getting any better, you may have to replace your screen.

If your smartphone doesn"t have a protective case, scratches and cracks on the screen are inevitable. There"s no shortage of screen repair shops, but knowing how to fix (or at least deal with) a cracked phone screen could save you a few hundred dollars.

If your phone is leaking liquid, it could be from the battery. Stop using your phone immediately and put it in a plastic bag until you can get it professionally fixed.

Use packing tape. Cut out a small piece of packing tape and place it over the cracks. If the damage is along the phone"s side, use an X-Acto knife to trim the tape.

Use super glue. Cyanoacrylate glue, better known as super glue, can seal small cracks. Use as little as possible, and carefully wipe the excess adhesive with a cotton swab or cloth.

Ask the manufacturer to fix it. If your phone is still under warranty, the manufacturer may replace your device for free. Even if it has expired, the manufacturer may fix it for a price. Most manufacturer warranties don"t cover accidental damages, but you can purchase secondary warranties that do.

Ask your mobile carrier to fix it. Your mobile provider may offer phone repair services at a discount to customers. Call customer support or visit a local store for help.

Take it to a repair shop. Depending on your device"s model, screen replacement can run about $50-$200. If the touchscreen functionality is damaged, there will be an extra charge.

Trade in your phone. If you"re due for an upgrade, you might as well trade in your broken device and use the money you get to buy a new one. Websites like uSell and Glyde will buy your broken phone for about half the price you paid for it. There are also sites specifically for selling used iPhones.

If you don"t want to fix or replace your phone"s screen after it cracks, gently apply a small amount of vegetable oil or other petroleum jelly products on the screen. This won"t fix anything or protect your phone from further damage, but it may make the cracks less noticeable.

As long as the glass isn"t chipped or breaking off, apply a screen protector to safeguard against further damage and slow down or prevent the cracks from getting worse. Or try using a very tiny amount of clear nail polish (containing cyanoacrylate), being sure to carefully wipe off any excess and let it dry to shore up small screen cracks.

If the glass on the back of your phone cracks, use something like food coloring or markers to go over the damage, then wipe the excess away with a paper towel or napkin. Be advised that while the results may look interesting, they will not repair any of the damage and will not make the broken glass less sharp. There"s still a very real chance that colored-in cracks will continue to spread and cut your fingers.

Did the Phone Fall anytime? There could be 2 Reasons: 1) The connector of the Display is Lose in the Main PCB of the Phone. Remember that the Display and Touchscreen and two different things. The Touchscreen has different Connector to the Main Board. (2) The Display has gone Faulty and needs Replacement.

Get the Phone checked and see if the Display Connector is Fixed Properly. If it is Properly Fixed and the Problem is Still there then maybe you have to Replace the Display.

Your Touchscreen is OK. The Display is Gone Faulty. Replace with Combo Set. Also Install a Protective Gorilla Glass of the Duplicate Combo for Safety as they are very delicate.

You mean you Replaced the Old Display with New One and it is still not working. If yes, then there is serious problem with the Board. It is better to get Rid of such a Phone and Buy a New One.

Sir,mera phone Lenovo K8note hai, screen pahle aadhi hokar, linings aati thi, phir Black Hokar bandh ho rahi thi, maine combo naya lagvay ,par problem solve nahi hua,ab mujhe Kya solution de sakte hai,Kya karna chahiye .

sir i have spice phone suddely screen of my phone start blinking and than switched off when i tried nto switch on my phone its working but display of my phone is blank?

Don’t switch ON the Phone it Shorting May Happen. Disassemble the Phone Completely and Clean with Tinner or IPA Properly. Assemble Back and Check. If the Problem is NOT Solved then Disassemble again and Apply Liquid Flux All Over and Board and Give Heat. Assemble Back and Check. If the Problem is still NOT Solved then the Phone is Short. It must be Checked Properly by some Experienced Technician if you have No Experience.

They refreshed its software but now it is giving me another problem which is that whenever I use it on full brightness its screen starts flickering but after a close observation I observed that it only flickers at grey colour family area i.e where ever there is grey colour on my lcd it flickers at maximum brightness. Is it a lcd issue or a board issue or a software issue and also all the rest colour work perfrctly and this issue is only innmax brightness. Plz guide me as soon as possible

how to fix lcd screen lines on phone brands

Flagship mobiles are getting pricier, which means you could be forced to pay a hefty fee if you smash the display or damage the battery. Before you contact the manufacturer, it"s worth looking at third-party alternatives to see if you could save some money. We"ll help you work out the cost.

In our snapshot study on smartphone repair, we"ve compared prices from both the mobile manufacturers and third-party repair websites. Our featured brands include Apple, Samsung, Google, Xiaomi, OnePlus and Oppo. Keep scrolling for screen and battery repair costs.

New features on premium smartphones are driving prices (and therefore repair costs) higher. In recent years, we"ve seen a surge of phones with under-display fingerprint sensors and mechanical, pop-up front-facing cameras – these are intricate components that can be a pain to fix. However, check your device isn"t under warranty

Show full tablePrices correct as of November 2022. For third-party repairs, we compared prices from Fixfactor, iSmash, Phones Rescue, Repair My Phone Screen, Square Repair and Timpson. If no third-party price is listed above, you will need to contact the website directly and ask for a quote.

Based on the selection of smartphones we"ve featured above, the average official repair cost for a broken screen is around £170. If your device is covered by warranty, you"ll either end up paying far less or nothing at all.

But if you"ve dug deep into your wallet for a smartphone with a high retail price, you"ll want to be extra careful. Smash the display on Apple"s iPhone 13 Pro Max, for example, and you can expect to pay £316.44 to get it fixed by Apple if it"s out of warranty. You could buy a new Which? Best Buy smartphone for around the same price.

From the results above, you"ll notice that third party repair costs for smashed displays don"t always work out cheaper compared to third-party alternatives. This isn"t the case 100% of the time, though – Apple charges £146.44 to fix a broken iPhone SE (2020) screen, while Phones Rescue charges less than £40 for its cheapest screen repair.

In some instances, we were unable to confirm a repair cost through the official route because the brand needs more information about the phone. This might even require sending the device to them to be analysed.

If you"re considering using third-party repair, you may be out of luck here as well. We weren"t able to confirm that screens were repairable for four popular phones across any of the six reputable third-party repair services we checked.

If repair costs are something that might factor into your buying decision – or even if they just constitute "nice to know" when you"re choosing a handset — it"s important to do your research in advance.

Batteries are far cheaper to fix than smartphone displays. In fact, our table above shows that the average repair cost for a broken battery (if you go directly through the manufacturer) is around £43. OnePlus is the cheapest of the bunch, charging just £12 to replace a dodgy battery.

That"s reassuring if you want to give your smartphone a new lease of life, but you also need to consider support periods if a phone is more than a couple of years old.

If the unthinkable happens and you damage your Samsung smartphone, you have three options if you don"t want to use a third party: doorstep repair, pick-up repair or in-store repair.

Choosing Samsung"s doorstep service means a mobile repair van will come to you and repair your product. Repairs can be completed on the day of the appointment, although Samsung notes that this depends on the "realistic repair time for the issue and parts available."

Pick-up repair means a courier will pick up your device and take it away to be fixed. This can take "up to 10 days" from the date of collection. Alternatively, you can try in-store repair. You"ll need to book a slot with a Samsung Expert via the brand"s website.

Screen and battery repairs for Samsung gadgets are bundled together. In other words, if you smash your screen, both the display and the battery will be replaced.

Apple has now introduced self-service repair in the UK – a service that allows customers to fix iPhones themselves by hiring specialist equipment. In practice though, we feel many might find it impractical, not to mention it could actually cost you more than sending it to a specialist. Read our story on Apple self-service repair for more.

Following more traditional repair methods, before you can bring a broken iPhone in-store, you"ll need to make an appointment online or call so a technician is assigned to your case. It"s a good idea to back up your important files before you go just in case. Apple also says you should keep a record of your Apple ID and password.

An AppleCare+ plan can be used to cover screen repair costs. The scheme includes two incidents of accidental damage cover (but you"ll have to pay an excess). If you don"t have AppleCare+, you"ll have to pay the out-of-warranty fee.

We reached out to Google for estimated repair costs and weren"t able to obtain figures for the Pixel smartphone range. This is because Google requires an IMEI number (found in your phone settings) before it will escalate a case and discuss pricing.

To fix your OnePlus phone, fill in an application on the website and ship out your device so it can be inspected. If a specific part of your OnePlus phone is damaged, there"s a chance you can get that individual piece replaced on its own.

OnePlus has a full list of out-of-warranty prices on its website, listing both cheap models like the OnePlus Nord and pricier alternatives such as the OnePlus 9 Pro.

Interestingly, each type of camera lens has a different repair cost. For example, break the rear mono camera on a OnePlus 9 Pro and you"ll pay just £1 for a new one. Meanwhile, the rear main camera is £60 to replace.

On Oppo"s support website, you can fill in a repair request and send in your device to Oppo to be fixed. Prices vary according to which device you have.

If you send off your Motorola smartphone, the company will send it back or swap it out for a like-new replacement. A repaired device or replacement is usually sent "within 7 days after receiving the original device".

Broken screens or "other physical damage" are not covered by Motorola"s standard warranty, so you"ll have to pay for the repair separately. The brand says that phones suffering from liquid damage can"t be repaired, although they are covered under the Moto Care Accident Protection Plan.

Most third-party repair websites will ask you to send in your damaged smartphone by post and some even provide a free shipping label. When sending your phone, ensure the device is well protected. Ship it out in the original packaging if possible.

Larger companies are likely to have physical stores dotted around, which might be the more convenient option in some cases. Timpson, for example, says it has more than 1,200 locations nationwide that can take a look at your phone. Meanwhile, iSmash customers can visit one of 32 locations.

Turnaround times will vary depending on the company you trust with your mobile. Pay close attention to what the brand is promising before you start the process. Also, back up your important data before you hand over your smartphone just in case your device gets wiped.

Assuming you opt for a third-party repair service, you"ll need to decide whether or not to hit the high street or use a mail-in service. The high street is convenient, but costs can be high depending on where you go. A mail-in service is easy to arrange online, but you could be waiting weeks for the return of your mobile.

When picking a company to handle your smartphone, remember the following:Do your researchCheck customer reviews to make sure your mobile is in good hands.

Be prepared to waitIf you"re using a mail-in repair service, ask the company how long you"ll be without your phone. You might need to arrange for a temporary back-up phone while you wait.

Check your softwarePoor battery life could be improved by downloading the latest software update to your smartphone. See if those changes have an effect before going ahead.

Probably not. The process of repairing a smartphone yourself can be frustratingly fiddly, especially now that very few phones have easily removable rear covers. If you don"t know exactly what you"re doing, there are clear safety concerns, and you could do more harm to your mobile than good.

If you"re faced with a large out-of-warranty repair fee, buying a replacement refurbished smartphone is also an option. Phones that have been officially refurbished by the manufacturer or retailer should come with a warranty, typically for one year, so you may find yourself in a better position than you were with your existing phone.

Be wary of buying phones that claim they are refurbished but don"t have a warranty, or buying second-hand phones from individuals on resell websites like eBay. You could bag yourself a bargain but might find yourself in trouble if you have problems.

As we"ve shown, repairing a mobile phone can be an expensive business. Making sure you"re protected against loss or damage is a wise move, so consider your options carefully.

With dedicated mobile phone insurance, you"re covered for repair and replacement costs if your phone is lost, stolen or damaged. Most policies also cover phone accessories and protection abroad, although you should check the policy wording carefully and make sure you don"t need to add this to your holiday insurance.

For more details on what phone insurance covers and whether it"s worth buying, see our expert guide –mobile phone insurance: how to get the best cover.

If you have contents insurance, this might already cover you for damage to a mobile phone, although check the terms carefully and speak to your insurer if in any doubt.

Accidental damage and cover away from home are two key terms to enquire about, as well as any excess you have to pay, which may be different for each. Also, check whether cover away from home includes holidays abroad; in some cases this can save you having to take out additional protection.

Which? believes that smartphone manufacturers should make it easier for consumers to repair mobile phones and offer greater access to competitively priced independent repair options. This would prevent high costs from prematurely ending the lifespan of mobile phones.

This includes:Consumers being given a legal right to repair by requiring manufacturers to make spare parts, repair tools and repair information available to third-party repairers at prices that encourage repair, rather than the purchase of a new device.

Consumers being provided with warranties reflective of the typical expected lifetime of the device, which our research has found could be on average five to six years.
