After choosing what CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage you need in a laptop, sometimes the next in line is its display. Now, depending on what you’ll use it for (maybe competitive gaming, maybe content creation or maybe even both), there are a lot of factors to be considered. We know most of you have already come across terms like refresh rate or response time, or TN panels, some may have even asked the question “What in the world is G-sync?” Well today, we’ll answer those questions for you in our Laptop Display 101: Display Types guide. Alright then, let’s go find that display you need.

Let’s discuss the most commonly known factor in choosing a display, its display type. Similar to mobile phones, laptops are also equipped with different kinds of panels, though they have fewer options. There are currently three display types available for laptops, and the third one only recently popped up in the market — Twisted Nematic (TN), In-Plane Switching (IPS),and Organic Light-emitting Diode (OLED). Each of these panels have their own advantages and disadvantages.

Before we continue, let’s get this out of the way first; there is no clear “best display type” among the three, as each cater to different needs and audiences.

Let’s also be clear with a few terms, namely Response Times, Refresh Rates, and G-Sync. Response times dictate the speed in which a pixel can display a change from either black to white, or from one shade of gray to another. It is often confused with input lag, which is the measurement of how fast a peripheral’s input, say a mouse or a keyboard, registers on the display.

Response time affects visuals on a display more, and is especially important when there is something fast happening on the screen. Response times also affect whether or not a display experiences “ghosting”, a phenomenon where trails of a moving object become visible on the screen because the pixels took to long to shift. This happens more often with longer response time displays.

Refresh rate, on the other hand, is the number of times per second that the screen refreshes the image on it. Refresh rates are different than frame rates, which is a famous method of measurement in benchmarking the performance of devices. That is because refresh rate actually dictates the maximum frame rate a screen can display, which is why it’s better to have higher refresh rates when using powerful devices. For example, if you’re averaging >100fps but the display’s refresh rate is only 60Hz, then all you’re actually seeing is 60fps.

Lastly, G-Sync, Nvidia’s proprietary display technology. G-sync synchronizes the refresh rate of your display to the framerate of your Nvidia graphics card or chip. This is done to eliminate visual artifacts, screen tearing, input lag, and stuttering. The end result is smoother gameplay and visuals. The counterpart to this on AMD’s side is Freesync technology, which pretty much does the same thing except for Radeon cards and Freesync supported displays. Although, FreeSync is not yet available on laptops.

First up, is Twisted Nematic or more commonly known as TN. TN panels are actually the oldest of the three display types, as they have been widely used since the 1980’s and were even considered as a technological breakthrough in display technology during its early development. Of course, today it now has fierce competition from other display types, but it still remains as one of the most widely used panels for laptops, especially in the entry-level and budget segment.

The main reason why TN panels are so famous is that they are cheaper to manufacture than the two other types. There are more expensive TN panels on the market though, and these are the high-quality ones that are mainly used in some high-end laptops and gaming monitors. It is also widely regarded in the gaming community and is one of the go-to panel types for professional and competitive gaming. That is because TN panels can have high refresh rates and low response times at a much lower price compared to IPS and OLED.

While TN panels are great for competitive and professional gaming, it’s generally not good for content creation, media consumption or even on some games like RPGs or Adventure games, which have vivid sceneries. This is because TN panels have poor viewing angles and bad color reproduction and accuracy. There are high-quality TN panels with excellent color reproduction and accuracy and overall better viewing angles, but they still can’t compete with the likes of IPS or OLED in these regards. Not to mention, they will cost an arm and a leg.

Okay next up, is In-Plane Switching or more commonly known as IPS. There was a need to address the underlying issues with TN panels, namely their poor viewing angles and subpar color reproduction and accuracy.  So, what developers came up with was IPS, a panel that can maintain all-around good viewing angles and consistently provide excellent color reproduction and accuracy. The drawbacks were that response times became longer and refresh rates got capped at a certain point (60Hz max). Only recently did IPS panels with >60Hz refresh rates start to pop up. Apart from that, these panels are also more expensive to manufacture than TN, which is why most laptops with IPS displays are in the upper-mid range to high-end category.

IPS panels are a good fit for content creation and media consumption due to their improved viewing angles, color reproduction, and accuracy. They also offer a good gameplay experience for games that take advantage of better colors such as RPGs and Adventure games. Although, they are no longer much of a choice for competitive and professional gamers due to their slower response times and lower refresh rates. There are IPS panels on the market now with higher refresh rates but, like high-quality TN panels, these cost an arm and a leg.

Organic Light-emitting Diode or OLED for short is a type of display that has been available on the market for quite some time already. It has been more utilized in TVs and mobile phones rather than in mobile PCs. It has only recently made its way into the laptop market. OLED displays are like IPS panels, but on steroids. This means that they have even better color reproduction and accuracy while maintaining good viewing angles. Blacks are also more vivid on OLED displays more than on any other kind of panel.

The downsides to OLED displays is that they draw more power and are prone to display burn-in. Burn-in is when an image, shown for prolonged periods of time, remains on the screen despite no longer being displayed. A good example of this is the Windows taskbar — when burn-ins occur in a display, the taskbar will remain on the screen despite shifting to other tasks like watching movies or playing games. Although this happens less frequently now due to incremental improvement, the risks of it happening are still there, so do operate OLED displays with care.

Just like with IPS panels, OLED displays are perfect for content creators, movie lovers, and those who enjoy playing games that do not require fast response times. Still, the biggest caveat is that OLED displays are even much more expensive than IPS.

Then we have OLED displays, which is essentially IPS on steroids, but carries the risk of burn-in, and is more power-hungry. Devices with these panels are the most expensive of the bunch, so these are only for consumers with very deep pockets.

There are two basic technologies used in LCD panels for laptops: TN and IPS. TN panels are the most common, as these are the least expensive and tend to offer faster refresh rates. TN panels have some disadvantages, including narrow viewing angles and colors. TN panels offer less overall color, but this typically only matters for graphics designers.

IPS offers higher color and viewing angles. However, these screens tend to cost more, have slower refresh rates, and are not as suited for gaming or fast video.

IGZO is a new chemical composition for building displays that replaces the traditional silica substrate. The technology allows for thinner display panels with lower power consumption. IGZO will eventually be a major benefit for portable computing, especially as a way to combat the extra power consumption that comes with higher-resolution displays.

OLED is another technology showing up in some laptops. It has been used for high-end mobile devices such as smartphones for some time. The primary difference between OLED and LCD technologies is that OLED doesn"t require a backlight. Instead, pixels generate light from the display, which gives these screens better overall contrast ratios and color.

Touchscreens are becoming a major feature of many Windows-based laptops. This technology replaces the trackpad for navigating the operating system. Touchscreens generally add to a laptop"s cost and draw more power, meaning these laptops have less running time on batteries than a non-touchscreen laptop.

Some touchscreen laptops come with a display that can be folded or spun around, offering a tablet-style experience. These are often referred to as convertible or hybrid laptops. Intel"s marketing refers to such machines as 2-in-1 designs. The important thing to consider with these types of laptops is the ease of use when in tablet mode, based on screen size. Often, the smallest screens, such as 11-inch screens, work best for these designs, but some companies offer them up to 15 inches, making the device more difficult to hold and use.

Most consumer laptops tend to use glossy coatings over LCD panels, letting more color and brightness come through to the viewer. The downside is that these screens are difficult to use with certain types of lighting, such as outdoor lighting, without producing a large amount of glare. These look great in home environments where it is easier to control glare. Most display panels that feature a touchscreen use a form of glossy coating.

While most consumer laptops feature glossy coatings, corporate-style laptops generally feature anti-glare or matte coatings. These coatings reduce the amount of external light reflecting on the screen, making these laptops better for office lighting or outdoors. The downside is that the contrast and brightness tend to be muted on these displays.

In the past, graphics processors weren"t much of an issue for consumer laptops. The majority of users didn"t do much graphically that required 3D graphics or accelerated video. This has changed as more people use their laptops as their primary computers.

Recent advancements in integrated graphics have made it less necessary to have a dedicated graphics processor, but these can still be beneficial. A dedicated graphics processor is helpful for 3D graphics (gaming or multimedia) or accelerating non-gaming applications, such as Photoshop. Integrated graphics also offer improved performance, such as the Intel HD Graphics, which supports Quick Sync Video for accelerated media encoding.

AMD and NVIDIA have technologies that can allow certain graphics processors to run in pairs for additional performance. AMD"s technology is referred to as CrossFire, and NVIDIA"s is SLI. While the performance is increased, battery life for such laptops is reduced due to the extra power consumption.

CCFL, or cold cathode fluorescent lamps, are a lighting technology used to project an image on the LCD. Light-emitting diodes (or LEDs) also emit light, but in a different way than an CCFL screen. CCFL tend to project light from a bulb in the back of the screen, whereas LEDs can be placed at intervals around the screen, making displays thinner and lighter.

Resolution In addition to the backlight technology, laptop displays are measured by their resolution -- the number of pixels they can display. Computer displays follow a rating system anchored on “VGA,” which stands for “video graphics array.” VGA displays show information at 640 by 480 pixels. XGA (extended graphics array) displays at 1024 by 768 pixels, and modern laptop displays range from WXGA (wide XGA), at 1280 by 780 pixels, through to QXGA (quantum XGA), at 2048 by 1536 pixels.

One Display or Two? In addition to the built-in display on laptops, some have a video-out option that allows you to attach a second display to your computer. When buying a laptop, consider that most laptops have a high-definition video out connector, to run your laptop to an HD TV via an HDMI cable, and a connector for a traditional computer monitor. If the work you do is best done over two screens, look for laptops with video out.

CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Light - High Intensity Discharge Lamps) was mostly used in older laptops. Laptop manufacturers have given different names for their glossy display. For example, Acer has named its glossy laptop screen as CrystalBrite, Asus, as Colour Shine and Dell as True Life.

Different names are given to different types of resolution by the LCD industry. These are identified with abbreviations. For example: 1366x768 is given the name HD (High Definition) and 1920x1080 for FULL HD. The latter has a very high resolution and displays an image that is twice the amount of pixels as compared to an HD screen.

This kind of measurement denotes the pixels or dots horizontally times by the pixels or dots vertically. For example 1366x768 means 768 horizontal lines each containing 1366 pixels and giving a total pixel count of 1049088 which is just over a million pixels to make up the entire image.

Another way is to go through laptop manual. It is always mentioned in the specifications section. You can also go to manufacturer’s website and search laptop model and its specification.

Retina Display is used by Apple for screens having a higher pixel density. For the third generation MacBook Pro (15”), the resolution is 2880X1800 which makes the total pixel count of 5,184,000 and for the MacBook Pro (13”), the resolution is 2560X1600 making the pixel count to 4,096,000. With such high resolution, the quality of display is very high.

Leading laptop manufacturers are launching laptops with ultra HD screen which has a very high resolution of 3840x2160p which is four times higher than that of the standard Full HD screen.

Ans:If you want to buy new screen with screen part number, you will need exact part number of the screen. Sometimes it is tricky to find screen part number. Usually screen part number is written either on back side of screen or inverter. The most important information is the manufacturer’s code and the screen size. Fortunately, the information for both can be found in one place, on the back side of the screen itself. For example let’s say the code you find on the back of your laptop screen is LP156WH2(TL)(A1).

This translates into having a LG Philips 15.6 inch screen. The “LP” is the code for LG Philips and the “156” is the code for the screen size of 15.6 inches. You’ll often see this code next to or above the UPS bar code for the screen.

Not all laptop displays are the same. In this video, you’ll learn about the different laptop display types and some of the options available when using laptop displays.

The vast majority of today’s laptops are using LCD technology on the displays. LCD is Liquid Crystal Displays. There’s a backlight that’s on your LCD display that is shining through liquid crystals, color filters, and other components to finally show you the messages and the graphics on your screen.

The advantages of using an LCD on a laptop computer are that it is lightweight, which is especially helpful for a mobile device. It’s relatively low power, so we’re going to have as much battery available as possible, and relatively inexpensive, so it keeps down the overall cost of the laptop.

If your job requires you to match colors or have a very good color representation on the screen, you may find some challenges with LCDs. Because there is a backlight that is shining through, it becomes very difficult to get a true black on the screen. We also have to be concerned about this backlight. If we lose the backlight because of a problem with the LCD or the fluorescent lights that are used to shine through the laptop screen, then suddenly the screen will go black. And then we have to replace the entire screen or different components of the backlight just to have that laptop working again.

One way to get around some of these problems with color representation are to use a different type of laptop display called OLED. It stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode. And OLED is an organic component that lights up when you provide it with an electric current.

These are usually very thin and very light screens. It doesn’t require that you have a glass to protect it on the front. And because it’s lighting itself, it doesn’t require a backlight. That means you have very good color representation, especially with true blacks. When there is simply no color, you don’t provide any electric current, and everything stays black.

Unfortunately, OLEDs are still not very popular on a laptop platform. We have organic materials that tend to degrade over time. And there are problems with decayed images still being displayed on these OLED screens. These OLED displays are also more costly. And they use more of your battery, which are not a great combination for a mobile laptop device.

A very important part of your laptop display that you don’t even see are the antennas that are inside the screen. They’re usually multiple antennas. There’s a Wi-Fi main, auxiliary connections, Bluetooth, cellular type connections. And they all wrap around the top of your laptop screen. That’s because when you open your laptop screen, that’s the highest point. So by putting them into and around that laptop screen, we’re able to get them as high in the air as possible.

On this laptop, there’s a mini PCI express interface that’s available to install an 802.11 card. You can see the wires are here. And those wires are wrapping around this lower part of the laptop. And they go up into the display itself. And they go up high into the display to be able to get the best signal possible.

We rely more and more on video communication these days. And so the webcams are being installed onto the laptops themselves. You can find the video capture or real time video transmissions are available with a camera that’s right at the top of the display. These usually have both audio and video capabilities. And you’ll need to make sure you install the correct driver for that hardware, depending on what operating system you’re using.

If you look closely, you can see the microphones that are installed at the top of this system. There’s a left and a right microphone. These are useful if you’re on a webcam and you don’t have another microphone available. They’re not high quality. You wouldn’t use this to be able to create online content. But it’s perfect for doing video conferencing.

Here’s a closer shot of this webcam with the audio microphone connections on the left and right side. It’s integrated into the screen itself and doesn’t take any additional space on your laptop.

We mentioned earlier that these LCD displays on our laptops have a backlight that is behind the screen. And there are usually two different types of backlights that you’ll find on a laptop. One of these is an LED backlight that’s on the LCD display. Sometimes we refer to these displays as LED displays. And what we’re really saying is that it’s an LCD display that is being backlit with LEDs.

They usually are LEDs that are placed around the edges of the screen. Or it’s making a matrix as you see here and providing the backlight using these LEDs. Because these LEDs are using the same DC voltage that’s available on your laptop, it doesn’t have to do any type of voltage conversion to be able to power these LED backlights.

Most of your newer laptops will be using those LED backlights. But some of your older systems may be using CCFLs. These are Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps. These use higher voltage. You need more power to be able to provide that fluorescent backlight. And they’re a little bit thicker than the LEDs.

These backlights are obviously important. We wouldn’t be able to see the screen unless we have a backlight that’s going through the LCD, and finally, we’re able to see it with our eyes. Some laptops will have inverters inside of them that will invert from DC into AC. These are primarily used for those CCFL fluorescent backlights that are in older laptops.

If your LED or CCFL backlights stop working, then the screen will look dark. But if you look very carefully, perhaps use a flashlight, you can still see that there’s information on the screen. It’s just not being lit from your backlight. This means that you’ll need to replace either the inverters on these older laptops, or you may need to replace the entire display to be able to have that backlight working again.

Some laptop displays allow you to write directly on the display, because the display itself is a digitizer. You would use a pen-like device, like this stylus, to be able to touch the screen and draw on it as if it was a piece of paper. This is becoming more common on laptops and tablet computers, or in hybrid computers like this one, that have a keyboard that looks very similar to a laptop but has a screen that’s very similar to a tablet. And then I can use this stylus to be able to draw on the screen or use my keyboard both at the same time.

If you prefer not to use a stylus, you could use a laptop screen that has direct touchpad support. So you can touch the screen and input information into that device. These are usually devices that have an option for a keyboard. Or you can use it individually as a single tablet component so that you can input in whichever way makes sense for you.

It’s easy to think you can get by with just a laptop. After all, it comes with a built-in keyboard, trackpad and screen all in one package — what else could you possibly need? But if you’re working from home or gaming for long hours — as more and more people increasingly are — you should absolutely have a dedicated monitor set at eye level. I’ve been testing and reviewing PC monitors for years, and there are so many factors that go into monitor choice that the market is flooded with hundreds of slightly different models. Having said that, there are a few crucial factors to consider when shopping for the best monitor for you.The best screen size for your needs

A display’s resolution is the number of pixels it has on screen, usually denoted by horizontal pixels x vertical pixels (like 1920x1080, otherwise known as 1080p).

You’ll find monitors from slightly below 1080p all the way up to 3840x2160 (aka 4K) and above. Most people will be just fine with 1080p and 1440p options — especially if the main use of the screen is work-related and doesn’t involve video editing or other high-function visual needs. If you keep a lot of windows open at once, springing for 1440p is worth it over 1080p though, with some folks (including myself) even going so far as to use two monitors to research and write at the same time.A monitor’s panel type determines its color accuracy

You’ll find monitors with three basic display types:Twisted Nematic (TN) panels are more affordable and provide smoother motion but aren’t as color-accurate, and those colors can shift (or tint) when viewed at an angle. Most people don"t need a 4K monitor at their desk, but if you"re editing high-resolution photos or working with 4K video, upgrading to a 32-inch monitor at that resolution is worth the extra money. While there are plenty of incredible pro-level monitors out there (like Apple"s Pro Display XDR), folks on a more typical budget would do well with LG"s 4K offering. Its IPS display offers a wide color gamut, HDR10 compatibility, and an adjustable stand for superb ergonomics.Best large, ultrawide screen display alternative to dual monitors: Dell

Even if you are extremely careful with your hardware, it can be unavoidable at times to run into issues such as a cracked or broken computer screen. Just because you’re experiencing problems with your display doesn’t mean that your laptop is beyond saving, however.

You should also know that repairing your laptop screen isn’t always the easiest job, and there is a possibility you can make the problem worse while voiding the manufacturer warranty. It’s important to feel confident in your skills before you begin the process of replacing your screen, and to consider if you would be more comfortable taking it in to a qualified repair shop.

Even those who have never replaced a screen can manage to do it depending on the type of computer. Just be aware that if you own a laptop with a touch screen it can make the process much more challenging.

If you’re wondering about broken laptop screen repair costs, you’ll be happy to know it’s not as expensive as you may assume. Professional repair costs are usually around $300 or so [1]. If you are comfortable working on your laptop yourself, you can usually find replacement screens online for reasonable prices - sometimes as low as $50 to $100 - and it often only takes an hour or two to complete the replacement job.

Before you begin the process of changing your screen, it’s important to know exactly what’s wrong and what needs to be repaired. The type of device you have can influence how much you’ll have to pay for another screen, as will its age, which may make finding a replacement rather difficult. You should do some research online to find out if you even have the option to fix the screen yourself.

The first step is making sure the device powers up successfully and that the screen is the only issue you need to address. As a test, hook your laptop up to a separate monitor. If your laptop seems to function well, then it’s likely that the broken laptop screen is all you have to worry about. Keep in mind that some laptops need to have some function keys pressed in order for an external display to work properly.

You will also have to do a complete inspection of your computer to determine if your screen is the only problem. A destroyed graphics card or a computer that refuses to start up indicates that a new screen isn’t enough to get you up and running again.

Also, if the frame of your laptop has suffered physical damage, then you may have some difficulty repairing your screen. Once you have looked over your device and determined whether you can fix it on your own, it’s time find the right screen for your computer.

Note: If you’re concerned about your laptop’s touch screen repair, it can be more complicated to fix this problem without professional help. These displays are designed with factors like sensitivity in mind, so it’s a good idea to have an expert take a look at it, even if it means spending a bit more than anticipated.

One of the main reasons you should know the model of your laptop is so you’re sure that you’re purchasing the correct replacement screen. While a number of companies offer laptop screen repair kits that can make the process easier, if you order the wrong screen you won’t be able to make any repairs. If you’re having difficulty figuring out your computer model, you can visit the “Settings” menu and find the serial number to assist you in your search.

Fortunately, finding the right screen for your device doesn’t have to be stressful. Often you can find what you are looking for simply by entering your laptop model number into the search bar of online retailers. You may also want to include the search term “LCD” in order to narrow down the accessories that are available for your computer. For the most part, screens should be priced fairly reasonably and you may even be able to buy some for around $50, although it depends on the type of computer you have.

Some sellers may use another form of identification for the model of your laptop, so double check that you chose the right option before you purchase. Almost all the information you need should be displayed on the seller’s listing. Again, take the time to compare your device’s specs with the screen you’re purchasing, and also make sure that the video cable on the back of your screen matches what the vendor shows online. Most of the time, it’s fairly easy to know if the right screen is available.

Screen repair kits are also available for certain models, so it can be worth it to research your type of computer and see if they’re available. These kits provide you with everything you need ahead of time so you can get to work and not worry about missing an essential tool. Of course, items around your home can work just as well while saving you a bit of money.

Once you have assembled the tools you need to replace the screen, you can get to work repairing your device. Lay the closed laptop on the flat surface you have chosen and keep your tools nearby.

First, turn off your laptop and make sure that it is unplugged from a power source to avoid any risk of electric shock. After that, it also helps to remove the battery to avoid causing any other issues.

Once you have done that, you should identify the stickers that cover screws on the screen bezel. You can usually find them near the bottom of your screen where the hinges would be when you have your display opened. There should be two.

You’ll then want to use your screwdriver to remove the screws that are now visible. You may have some difficulty depending on how tightly they were screwed in during manufacturing. For the most part, if your old screen is aligned fairly well, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem to remove the screws. Place them in the dish so you don’t lose any.

It’s now time to gently remove the bezel. Make sure you are careful when removing your old screen’s bezel because you will need to reinstall it once the screen is replaced. By using a putty knife or other flat object, you should be able to pry your screen from your laptop case.

It may take a little effort to completely remove it. And don’t be alarmed if you hear some plastic snapping - that is the unfastening of the plastic tabs that hold your screen onto your case. If you have some trouble removing the old screen, the screws at the bottom might not be loosened enough, so stop and loosen them some more before trying again.

One of the trickier parts of replacing your laptop screen will be removing the LCD. First, make sure that the bezel is completely off so you can have unfettered access to the LCD screen. It will be secured onto the laptop’s metal frame, and you will have to take it off from the left and right sides.

After you remove the attachments, your screen should now lie on your keyboard. It can be a bit of a challenge to make sure there is enough space between the LCD and the metal frame, but you should be gentle to avoid ruining the video cable that runs from the back of the screen to the body of the laptop. If this is damaged, you will need a professional’s help to repair it.

Now it’s time to disconnect the cable from the LCD. You can usually find the connectors in the center, though they may alternatively be located at the bottom of your screen. It’s likely that adhesive was used to connect the two, so you will need to gently pry one from the other. There may also be some tape that needs to be removed, but overall it should be pretty simple to disconnect your LCD from the video connector. Set it somewhere away from your tools.

Reinsert the remaining screws into the bezel after you’re certain everything is snapped correctly into place. You shouldn’t be able to see any cracks at all along the edges of the screen. Once the screws are inserted, reattach the screw covers using your pin or needle.

From there, you should be ready to restart your computer. Put the battery in and connect your laptop to a power source before turning it back on. If there is no display, then you will need to double check that everything was properly put back together.

Repairing a broken laptop screen doesn’t have to be done by a professional. If you have the time and interest, then you can end up saving a lot of money by doing it yourself. By following these DIY steps, you can have your laptop display back up and running in an hour or two.

Connecting your laptop to a monitor is simply a matter of using the appropriate cable; most Windows laptops use HDMI or USB, and MacBooks will use USB or Thunderbolt.

You might need to get an adapter to connect your monitor to a MacBook if the display doesn"t have the appropriate connector for your laptop (USB-C or Thunderbolt).

No matter the size of your laptop"s display, adding a second monitor can make for a more convenient and productive experience. It"s a simple matter to connect an external monitor to most laptops, and then you can configure the display with a few clicks. 5. You should now see numbered boxes which represent the laptop and additional display — usually, number 1 is the laptop"s built-in display, but to verify which is which, click Identify, and the numbers will briefly appear on the two displays.

Depending on your MacBook, you"ll either have the option of connecting with a USB-C or Thunderbolt connection. If you can connect your monitor directly to the laptop — if your monitor has a USB-C port, great — use that. If not, you need to use an adapter or hub that can convert the monitor"s connector to the format used by your MacBook.

7. If you want both monitors to display the same thing, click Mirror Displays. Otherwise, leave the checkbox blank to extend the screen to the second monitor.
